As has been reported on many gaming blogs and websites, we have temporarily taken Firmware v2.40 offline. We’ve received a limited number of calls from consumers experiencing an issue with installing the system software update on their PS3. While our consumer services department has seen a low volume of calls on this topic, we are committed to providing the PS3 community with XMB access features delivered in the v2.40 update. We are working diligently to isolate the problem for those few consumers and to identify a solution before we put the firmware back up.
We’ll provide further information as necessary here on the Blog.

Sony has dissapoint me a lot, Home delayed, Haze delayed, MGS4 delayed, Soccom delayed, we are at 07/02/08 and we haven´t “trophies” in the most popular games like resistance, motorstorm, Cod4, MGS4, etc……. what the hell they were thinkig when they decided to release the new Firmware, if the games would not receive a patch when the update was up ??????????
Seriusly sony, u have work to do, look at the x360 owners, they have achievement since the console was release, what the hell u were doing during this time ???, i have my console since 03/31/07 and i haven´t seen any “HUGE” new feature include in a new firmware, why u think the x360 is winning ???.
I love sony, i have gotten Ps1, Ps2, and now PSP and PS3, i´m from chile and i have to pay almost $90 for each game, and i paid $900 for my PS3, why i chose Ps3 and not x360(what it was at $600) ?? because i love Playstation, if i have to pay $90 for each game i´ll do it glady, just because a love PS and video games since i was 6 when my uncle bought me a nintendo.

gamesblow… playing your ps2 or 1 games i guess havent played any on the ps3 but hold the ps button down and theres a display option to change it to full screen as opposed to normal… it wont entirely fill the screen but its much better
yeah seriously sony just keep delaying things. thats the way to gain customers and their respect. i have been waiting for this update for so long. i was more anticipated for this than any game for ps3 so far. i started downloading this morning before going to work. i saw it was taking too long and i turned it off because i didnt want to keep my playstation on. i come home at 5 pm happy for this. ready to play some gta 4 with my friends. and i get this “the latest update is already downloaded to your console”. Give us some answers! TIME!?!?! GIVE US A TIME PERIOD!!!!

Jeff you are the man. I was one of those who installed Firmware 2.40 in the first 5 mins it was out. I had no issues. I even saw you get your first trophy. You will always be a PSN friend for life.

Well Patrick, I can give you a repport of a hardware issue with a good instal…My media server thingy doesn’t work any more…
But IG-XMB works fine and I’ve got 39% of the Trophy in SSHD…But no more Media streaming stuff…Oh but I forgot I can Copy everything but not Play it?????

First time posting and I have to say that 2.40 is Okay. My XMB does not work. I played Warhawk and Unreal Tournament and I could send messages in game and everything. My in game music is not working, it says that I get an error with some “x’s” and other crap. The trophies icon is there but i click and theres no trophies D:
But i am sure that Sony would fix this problem and I am confident that they will and I will wait patiently, im just a little disappointed because I cant listen to music when im playing yet..
The only thing that works for me is In Game Messaging and the Clock.. lol =P

#277 was right :(, Sony should be the best when it comes to console, not dumb xbox that charges for everything and i think we all know Sony is alot better than this. I’m not complaning about the new update cus i know errors can occure but come on sony, the way u guys built the ps3 is telling me you wanted to make every other console bow to it with its incredible power, right now thats not what it is. Thats y you should start showing every 1 y ps3 is the best console out there, and now is the time to do it cus if you wait much, every 1 is just going to stay with their current consoles

Please you guys need to take action about the custom soundtracks feature. i need to listen to my music while playing GT5. hurry up on the patches!!! thats not delayable anymore.
I’ve been having some problems even tho I’ve already installed the new firmware. It appears that the mic’s are having problems where they fail to work online and in chats after the problems happens. Today while I was trying to play MGO my mic icon next to my name would not appear even tho I could hear other people chat thru it. I could not get my mic to turn on by pressing select and on returning to the xmb the mic would not pick up on me talking at all until I reset my playstation. This mic problem has happened while I was trying to play NBA 2k8 as well. It actually froze my playstation while I was playing MGO when I pressed the button on my mic to cut it off. It was displaying that I was talking when I had not said a word then when I cut the mic off it froze and I couldn’t even hard reset my playstation at all I had to flick the power switch to get it to shut down. Other than that I’ve seen no other problems. But this mic problem is very scary because of the having to flip the switch to cut my playstation off without shutting it down and I hope a new firmware is coming to address it.
Hmm… so they said that after the install there shouldn’t be a problem yet after installing it on my PS3 it’s been freezing half the time. Sony, PLEASE deliver me a solution!!!!
ALSO, You cant listen to music while playing MGS4, Or pain or any games??? When is this going to get resolved SONY?
1. Please make custom in-game music a standard part of the PS3’s OS?
2. Add an automatic turn off timer to the Dualshock 3 controllers. Have it turn off automatically after not being in use for 15-30 minutes.
My PS3 is fine…
but when I use remote play, it freezes when accessing the playstation store and when viewing someone elses profile…
(these are random though)
Also my friend’s ps3…after installing the update his PS3 cannot play PS2 games anymore..
Every other disc works except for ps2 games…
He did a system format etc…and it still wont work…
Please fix that in the upcoming patch.
oh yeah….(in addition to ricksjames) It scares the crap out of me when i have to flip the switch too.
This update feels like a one big Beta test, similar to what happened in MGO. for people who didn’t update yet, it is okay to wait for a couple of days. and people who have brick issues hopefully it will be fixed in the 2.41. people are whinning everywhere but when it will be working and running everyone will forget about it all.
Thank you sony for the update and hopefully will start working on in-game chat because that is what i really want, don’t care about trophies and other features. the important ones are in-game and custom soundtrack and then we can compare it to Xboxlive, online exprience in PS3 needs improvment and i think Sony won’t let us down.
Jeff please reply. Maybe when 2.40 works again make it version 2.41, because it will include in-game chat, in-game music, in-game ps store, game invites, in-game photos, and in-game web browser. please please please do this!!

When 2.40 is working again, please let it include in-game chat, in-game music, in-game ps store,in-game browser, game invites, in-game ps. blog, in-game xmb in ps1+ps2, audio messaging, and video messaging. It will be called 2.41 (the revised in-game xmb) please consider doing this sony!
I downloaded firmware 2.40 last night at 11:40 no problems im already level 2 who hoo I have a 60 gig launch version actually one thing did happen that was a little odd I was playin super stardust and went to message a friend and my ps3 beeped and took me back to the dashboard so I reloaded the game and has been fine I feel sorry for the people that couldnt get the update and screwed their ps3s well back to super stardust to get my last 4 trophies YES IM A TROPHY WHORE LOL.Hopefully those of us who got the update wont wreck our ps3s.IM OUT!!!!!!

I’ve got an 80 gig refurb PS3 that installed 2.40 just fine at 10:00p PDT yesterday. No problems so far, but the patch took about 45 minutes to download over cable where I can usually get other updates in 5-10 minutes. Was very surprised to learn of the glitch tonight. Anywho, glad to hear someone’s hunting it down before we turn into 10 million guinea pigs.

I have updated and everything is good. I love the ability to go to the xmb while in-game, but there are some issues with icons on the xmb while not in game, but it’s awesome….
But… I feel like all I’ve been waiting for was in-game messaging, I can understand the music sistuation. But, I’ve been waitin since the launch of the PS3 for in-game xmb with all the goods, but it’s been over a year and we finally get it, but all it really does is in-game texting. This feature should of been available since the early days of the PS3. Why this long of a wait for a seemingly easy thing to do?

I was late to the 2.40 release party, and I guess I came when it got reverted back to 2.36; I hope Sony quickly finds the issue and solves it within the next week :)
