PS3 System Software Update (v2.41)

1,366 0

Hi, everyone. As many of you know, we released PS3 firmware update v2.40 last week, but had to take it offline temporarily because, for a limited number of users, the XMB wouldn’t display after the update was installed. We’ve been able to fix the problem, and I’m happy to report that firmware update v2.41 will be released shortly.

We want to extend our apologies to the PlayStation community for any inconvenience. Now we’ll be looking forward to seeing everyone online and racking up those trophies!

  • Awesome, I can rack up trophies in….. one game. ;)

No but seriously, thanks for getting things straightened out and taking care of us. (The shirt fits well too, thanks again!!!)

  • Eric, can we expect to see the SSDHD patch re-introduced to the network? I was greatly disappointed to see that the patch was taken down temporarily for SSDHD. I just wish for another opportunity to download the patch from the SSDHD servers so I can earn those trophies. Thanks!

  • Maybe a select few that had some troubles with the ingame xmb but i doubt you will find much Imbrium

  • I am DOWNLOADING this update and after 1 hour and about 25 mins it is olny at 39%!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • luminousCranium

    What a surprise! /sarcasm

Thanks guys! I didn’t experience any of the problems with the v2.40 update, but I will certainly upgrade to v2.41 just-in-case. Great job getting this new update out quickly!

On a note: Why doesn’t the XMB show up during Blu-Ray playback? This needs to be addressed. I t would have been helpful yesterday.

  • If your connection is slow it could take hours so check your internet connection

  • @anybody that read about the 4th tab in the profiles… it was in 2.40 as well as 2.41 but the fourth page only shows if you played a game with that person

  • Is there a way to receive a notification when my comment has been replied to?

  • Greatly appreciated!!! Now what about more in game features? If hear another 360 fanboy talk about in game chat, I’m gonna strangle him with my ps cords. Seriously we should be second to none and next to or in front of everyone. This is just one more step. That and Command and Conquer 3 for the S3!

Is anyone else on here are having issues downloading Super Star Dust HD update? Once I launch the game it ask me to update but when I hit yes it reboot my system. HMMMMM, i’m a little afraid to update so it doesn’t brick my system. SSHD update seems really wonky.
    ———————————

i am, everytime i hit start the update it just reboots the ps3 wtf.

  • I just installed the new update..why cant i play my music while playing NBA 2K8 ??

  • GDZPIZZA: If it won’t even power up, that sounds like an electrical problem and not a software problem. Does the power light come on at all? If not, check all your power connections, including the on/off on the back of the unit AND the on/off on any surge protectors and powerstrips.

As far as FOLDER CORRUPTIONS, yes, I have heard another 2.41 upgrader who experienced it with his custom-made folders. The system automatically detected a problem with his file system and corrected it for him. While that is pretty cool, he also wrote that his custom playlists got erased. Sort of a good news/bad news on that one.

  • I installed 2.40 when it came out, and my PS3 hasn’t been able to read disks since last Saturday :(

    Hopefully 2.41 will fix that…

  • Ghostm — – — – –

ok not sure if it was coincidence but after trying to install the SSHD 4.0 update about 10 times only to have the ps3 reboot everytime i unplugged all my usb connections to it, i had a pen drive and a hard drive attached. This seems to have done the job… still its downloading very slowly

  • Thanks for the reply sora57…but when i press the power button it goes from green immediately to yellow then flashes red…….:(

You are right, 2.41 is nothing but crap. I installed it on my PS3 and now my friend’s 360 got the RROD (forever)!!!

  • can anyone help me?

  • Thank you Sony for a great update, been waiting for this since I bought my PS3 :).

However there is one small thing I would like to change/add. The XMB-time display function should be able to be turned on/off. I don’t want a timer display messing up my themed XMB.
I would much rather have it displayed when I press the PS-button for example to check on the controller power-status.

Thank you and I hope you take my advice in to consideration.

  • @357….not ALL games have in game music…

Currently only SSDH, High Vel. Bowling and Pain.

  • The slow downloads may be your own connection.

But since so many are downloading now…that may also affect people.

  • Thank goodness I was one of “The Few” to get v2.4 and starting to enjoy achieving trophies. Those last 3 trophies for SSD HD are crazy to get. :) Can’t wait for more games to support the trophies.

  • thanks for the update fix. my 2.4 has been flawless but I’m still glad you guys have fixed it for people who were having some troubles! awesome job all around guys.

    peace,
    Lh

  • This is why I F’n LOVE Sony! You guys saw the mistake, took it down immediately so that more people don’t get “bricked”, and fixed it! Thank you, I love you guys! Hopefully, shortly means shortly, like after the wednesday psn maintenance :P

  • So no issues ??? Anyone???

  • @ FrozoneUSMC (367)

I think “The Few” refers to the people who supposedly actually had trouble, since I haven’t met any.

I was fine at v2.40, but thanks for the update! :D

  • I have a question for you Mr. Director of PSN Operations….or should we just stick to Eric?

in your video walkthroughs you say how we can go into and change sound settings without having to quit the game…well thats total BULLS__T!!!!!!…and quite frankly i cut you a little slack when you released the details for 2.40 becuz its what we ALL wanted to finally hear…but dude more updates to update the updates…i understand thats all you’ve been doing since 11/2006 but enough is enough

how do you still have a job???

to be quite honest this update doesnt do anything for us the consumers becuz you leave everything in the hands of the developers…what a great way for SONY to wash their hands of it…i can hear it already……

“The PS3 offers such great features such as In Game XMB, Custom Soundtracks etc etc”

and leave off the part that says…IF developers include it in the game

SONY needs to wake up…either give us “REAL” features and REPLACE YOU and get someone that can!!!

  • hi there,

this is a bit offtopics and it’s my first post in this blog, and thank god that sony has fixed 2.40 problems.
these are just a few ideas for future firmware update that i thought it might be useful for the PS3 + PSP users,
i believe most of them are doable, and some of them are just compliants and hoping it can get fixed really quick.

    01. wireless file transfer between PSP and PS3 during remote play (photo, music)
wouldn’t it be nice when you’re outside of your house(w/ wi-fi access of course), nd being able to get your music from your ps3 to psp and bring it on the go, right?

    02. bettary indicator overlapping clock display (love the clock, but overlapping..BAD!)
i know it only takes 3 sec for it to disappear, but it gets really frustrating after awhile.when i’m playing with my psp, i like to press home to check time very often, it sucks when youhave to wait 3 sec to get the time and get back to the game in ps3. (and no, i don’t have clocks around me)

    03. suggesting removral of un-useble icon(most of the setting icon for example) for in-game xmb
it does kind of annoying and messy keep been asked that you have to leave the game to do this and that.

    04. in-depth profile (location[!], hobbies, interest, game preferrences[!]) source: scrawlfx.com
just some good ideas to got from other website, makes you know your new friends better don’t you think?

    05. In-game voice chat, cross game invites(people keep asking about it, sure you’d noticed)

    06. maybe the ability to change PS store server location(JAP, US, UK) without changing PSN account?
then able to delect alot of overlapping accounts? b/c there are some demos/games that other store don’t have please don’t be so independent..3 locations can work together to provide the best service for customers :)

    07. Flash Player upgrade. (For PS3, PSP if possible..please)
     really…just hoping….hoping ever since the day i got my psp..(and my 2nd psp[slim])..

    08. more media file type supported. (people’s request, personally.. i’d just use media server)

    09. frames selection (just like the psp when watching video and press square[PSP can do it, why not PS3?])
again…PSP can do it…why not PS3? i found this function really useful

    10. how about some playlist for PSP music/photo? and RSS feed/channel for PS3 ?
not everybody likes to take out psp and select music that them want to play right? something to think about.

    11. save the character encoding for certain web page that you go very often? tired of changing them everytime.
     yes, it’s really*n very*n frustrating for multi-language users.

    12. i know these are marketing issues, but i really like to see GPS on psp in NA region. (currently in CA)

thats about all for now, and i’m hoping to see at least some of them in the future.so far, sony has been doing a great job, and does listen to what customers have to say. and yes, we know it takes time to develop new features, it’s not going to popup overnight. but it is always nice to hear from the developers(about firmware) what they have been doing. even if its only once a month.

and i really hope somebody(among the developers) can see these and take some actions on it. Cheers !

  • @304 (GAZoman)
Does anyone know how an Xbox fanboy (Xbot) worked his way onto the PLAYSTATION BLOG!?
Oh and by the way, the Cell processor idea used on PS3s is now being implemented in the world’s fastest supercomputer. (Kinda shows how others realize that the Cell is very powerful). Go bash Sony on your MS Forum, Xbot.

  • My profile takes a really long time to load and other times i cant even view it because an error occurs. i cant look at my firends either. whats the problem?

  • WOW I just update mine and they fix the long log time for looking at friends profile
    this is just the beginning
    home is coming can’t wait
    you go sony

  • Right everyone. One thing. Why not stop moaning and just download the new firmware 2.41. As far as I am concerned Sony did an excellent job of handling the original situation and they should be commended for this. Maybe they did brick a few machines but they have the decency to sort it out. When we weren’t getting the update everyone was moaning. Now we get the update and people are still moaning. Let them get on with it. If you don’t like the PS3 then why get one…Get a life you guys and get on with it!!

  • To the people having trouble with SSHD 4.0

Press O when prompted to download update, then go to the online store and download update from there

  • That’s the in-game store

  • thank you everyone from sony for the update s.. just one thing to make the ps3 perfect for me .. private/ in game voice chat.

  • TeQuerra | July 8th, 2008 at 8:24 am

or unplug anything in ur usb ports! – worked for me

  • what about the patch for super stardust HD and the multiplayer pack?

  • I have a question for you Mr. Director of PSN Operations….or should we just stick to Eric?

you know what you have a point I want to see sony put on the supeman cape and give us ingame private chat in game friend invite not just in game xmb you’re not bias you’re just stating facts stop hoping for third party developers to do it it’s you’re console not theres

  • xmantclan is my gamertag so feel free to hit me up and psn

  • @ 383

Get a life man. At least they have updated the firmware. Maybe you shouldn’t have a PS3. Sony don’t need people like you moaning when they are trying their hardest! Get it off man and get a life!

  • @ 363 810blk
As we all know , that feture its a developer side feature , meaning that the game developer must allow it.

  • I didn’t have any problems when 2.40 came out. It works great on my launch 60 (since upgraded to a 240). It will be nice to get the Super Stardust multi-player co-op split-screen upgrade for that last gold trophy, though.

  • @383 xmantaclan

and leave off the part that says…IF developers include it in the game’

no no ,my good chap ,they were very clear about that being a developer side feature.
(In fact Eric and Jeff told that several times)
    You just are misinformed.
    Cheers man.

  • yeah XMANTACLAN full cap ok love ps3 so don’t think i am bias because i also got a 360 and man it sucks after playing call a duty on ps3 there no competition it’s just sit there collecting dust halo is the most boaring game in hestory

  • xmantaclan…added you…GGCAN

  • no in game xmb on iron man. can anybody else report any other games it doesnt work with? i’m not upset just figured somebody might like a list of games that don’t support it

  • GODZ_PIZZAMAN:
Have you called SONY then? Just a few wacky ideas: If you have a disc inserted, press eject instead of power. If no disc, power up with the controller and not the power button (if you can). Unplug all USB devices and eject and memory sticks/cards and try again.

If none of these work, definitely call SONY.

  • PLEASE READ THIS, PLAYSTATION STAFF!

the web browser hasn’t been working properly since 2.40. It caches the web page, and when you try to view it later, it shows the same exact page, nothing updated.

For example, If you are on a message board. You visit it, then visit another site. When you return to the message board, nothing has changed! You have to refresh the page every time to see something new.

Please fix this!!! Also, it would be greatly helpful to add some more flash / java codecs too =P

  • *eject ALL memory sticks/cards

  • ffs 383 is so right.

can someone tell me how to get in contact with sony directly. please would be greately appreciated.

im not going to be nasty to them i am just going to ask for an official reason why they cant put in game music univeersally becuase i belive they oculd get around the apparant M$ patent.

  • @393…..I’m not seeing that problem on my PS3.
