mulling over todays events that unfolded at E3, “No Place For Hideo” begins to make more and more sense. it seems like it could be the end of 3rd party “exclusives” all together. it’s not a sad day for sony, it’s a sad day for the industry as a whole. Hideo Kojima, last of the loyalists. hopefully sony will take that chance and seek to put him onboard the team. considering we now have to look “exclusively” to sony for the only games that hopefully will show the ps3’s true power, much like mgs4. i would love to hear that from sony tomorrow at their showing.

Nismobeach  |  July 14th, 2008 at 8:06 pm

Wow, you guys really really really really dropped the ball on FF13 exclusivity.

I mean, it was such basic part to a successful PS3 strategy that even most hardcore Xbox 360 fans could see it.

But hey, who cares right? We’ve got Qore, in-game XMB, and a blog that provides instant customer feedback that most Sony employees don’t take serious enough. :D

I’m sorry to say this, but I’m starting to believe that Sony deserves this smack down for all of their poorly made choices this generation.

Keith  |  July 14th, 2008 at 8:16 pm

Let me start by saying…losing FF13 is a huge problem with me. Instead of freaking out…I will give a couple of situations that would warrant me actually keeping my PS3:

#1: Sony come out and say the gloves are off and make a commitment to your fans. Stop marketing you system as a Blu-ray player and focus on games
#2: Let everyone know that Blu-ray will never be a part of the 360
#3: New Rock* exclusive game (not some ping pong game like before)
#4: Acknowledge that you let FF slip..be accountable for your epic failures.
#5: You claim PS3 is using a fraction of it’s power…prove it with a title releasing this decade!!!
#6: Announce something out of left field that no one would ever fathom

I will admit if these things don’t happen…I will keep my PS3 (for movies) but I will be buying a 360 for games and I will buy all of my 3rd party games for the 360…because they have proven they will go out and fight for the gamers…they have no mistaken identity, they are a video game console

754

notmarealname  |  July 14th, 2008 at 8:17 pm

Sony you better pull something out of ur A$$ tomorrow because u just lost a huge system seller game. This is what all the ps2 owners have been waiting for and now there probably gonna buy the 360, which has more rpg’s, netflix, even better xbox LIVE…. the list can go on.

And when I mean pull something out of ur A$$, that “something” should be M$’s D!ck

755

notmarealname  |  July 14th, 2008 at 8:19 pm

^ because its surely up their right now

756

Keith  |  July 14th, 2008 at 8:21 pm

The funny thing is…Sony doesn’t care about losing anything. All they care about right now is Blu-ray and OLED. PS3 is not and has never been a video game console…eveything introduced is TV or Video based. Watch the big announcement tomorrow is that DVR functionality is to be introduced the PS3. I want a video game system not a fu&#ing cable box. Stop being arrogant and release a non-shooter game you slags

757

notmarealname  |  July 14th, 2008 at 8:22 pm

all I can say is, sprint ur A$$ over to Wada (or whatever that SE president guys name is) and summon your pay check and start jotting down some numbers, because you really cant afford to lose FFXIII just like that.

758

Stoffinator  |  July 14th, 2008 at 8:22 pm

Couldn’t of said it better myself TheVesra.

759

Ghostm  |  July 14th, 2008 at 8:24 pm

Hey,

I’ve been reading all of your comments and I understand the anger. I was actually angry myself a bit earlier but I’m calm now. Listen to you all…do you guys really think that SE really cares about our comments and complaints? Really? When M$ walks in that room with those money bags wata turned into a pure B!tch! I hope Square Enix burns to the ground with those M$ money bags!

Wata: “I’M RICH B!TCH!!!”

So much for japanese people being honorable. I guess only Konami and Kojima still have that honor.

760

notmarealname  |  July 14th, 2008 at 8:26 pm

or you could just totaly ignore it I mean,

its only the biggest exclusive title any platform could have

761

EvilStealth64  |  July 14th, 2008 at 8:28 pm

Sweet!! I doenloaded the fallout and Destroy all Humans Videos!

762

Ghostm  |  July 14th, 2008 at 8:30 pm

@ 757 notmarealname | July 14th, 2008 at 8:22 pm

Your comment is truly funny dude. You really think Sony still have an option? The only something like this could still happened. All the 360s around would have to RROD at the same time. I’m sure M$ already paid SE and signed contracts about this deal. For Wata and SE it’s money in the bank. M$ now have SE in their back pockets like some street hooker on the corner of Hunts Point!
Those bold guys over there are M$ are real/true hustlers! Many they play dirty!

763

WestSiide  |  July 14th, 2008 at 8:46 pm

I have a feeling that sony will have a “good” e3 conference. I also have the feeling that they will not deliver anything “shocking” or “spectacular” like were all expecting. We all have general idea of what theyll announce. The problem i see is that sony is too “by the book.” Like Ghostm said MS are hustlers. What do “hustlers” do..? Theyll lie, cheat and steal to get ahead. That FF stunt MS pulled was some sneaky sh*t. Something i dont think is part of sonys business practice. Didnt they say that they dont need to “buy” exclusivity to games like the “competition?” What sony will do in their conference is talk about games we heard about from last year that got delayed, maybe some new ones, talk about services like Home and maybe a movie/music download service and… well thats probably it. I hope im wrong and they tear up this e3 and make everyone forget about FF. I just dont see that happening.

764

MechSamus  |  July 14th, 2008 at 8:55 pm

the only good i see out of all this is that the 360 version is ganna be made AFTER the ps3 version is completed so thats pretty much it, but ganna be released at the same time so thank you sony for delaying the game probably for…..hmmmm. probably another year

765

notmarealname  |  July 14th, 2008 at 9:04 pm

@ 763 WestSiide | July 14th, 2008 at 8:46 pm

I agree man, Sony probably didnt see this one coming because Wata said himself that the decision was pretty recent. And sony can’t just come up with a miracle out of the blue today other than what was already planned (hopefully they have big things planned btw).

@ 762 Ghostm | July 14th, 2008 at 8:30 pm

Agreed. As much as I hate M$ and their greedy ways, I kinda wish sony was more like them and start payin up for exclusives. I’ll admit, if I was a xbox owner, I would be pretty happy with M$ right now.

766

NinjaZeroEight  |  July 14th, 2008 at 9:10 pm

Is it possible for Sony to stop concentrating on Home and maybe buy a third party exclusive? I’m investing in Playstation for the games. Not community features.

767

SpikeDelight  |  July 14th, 2008 at 9:15 pm

Awesome! Here’s hoping for a Killzone 2 demo!

768

WestSiide  |  July 14th, 2008 at 9:24 pm

@Notmarealname
I highly doubt that sony was unaware of this. My question though is, if your shouting and advertising “exclusive” on a certain game to a specific console, wouldnt that mean that both companies have had to come to some kind kind of legal agreement that would make it true? Because it seems like SqEnix basically said Fu*k You sony and decided to do business what a company (MS) that is clearly in competition with a company (sony) they had a prior agreement with. As big as FF may be I would tell SqEnix Fu*k You back and lets see how many copies of FF you Motherfu**ers sell alone on the 360. I think Sqenix needs sony more than sony needs FF.

769

sunstrike  |  July 14th, 2008 at 9:31 pm

please sony make a better online store to win to the fuking xbox and don’t let your exclusives go like final fantasy 13 because that was one of your tronp cards. and make a deal with apple to win vs microsoft. demet………………..

(sorry for my bad English)

Dissent  |  July 14th, 2008 at 9:32 pm

FF13 is certainly the biggest loss Sony took but it wasn’t the only. How about Rockband being a timed exclusive? I wonder if this has anything to do with Sony sucking up to Activision and screwing Harmonix on the compatibility patch. Also now M$ has Portal 2 exclusively. Another sad loss.

In fact it’s so sad GLaDOS wrote us a break up song about it to be sung to the tune of “Still Alive.”

This was a sell out…
They made me an offer
I couldn’t refuse.
It’s hard to overstate their generous pay off.

Microsoft X-box…
They buy what they want
because they can.
For the good of all of us
except the true gaming fans.

But there’s no use crying
over Sony’s mistake
They just can’t compete when X-Box shells out the cake.
And the deals get done
Sony lost each game that’s fun
to the people on X-box Live.

Now please don’t be angry.
We can still play on Portal 1.
Even though you’ve beaten it.
So soundly.
And beat it again.
And one time without ever dying.
And all without achievement points
as inspiration for you.

Now there’s plenty of new games
coming down the line
And who knows but Sony might release them on time.
So be GLaD I got bought
Think of all the Themes you’ve got
that you can’t get on X-Box Live.

I’d better be leaving.
Microsoft wants me by their side.
Maybe you’ll have great new games to play with.
Little Big Planet!
That was a joke, Ha Ha, FAT CHANCE!
Anyway their install base
Is so big I had no choice.

Look at me still talking when there’s publicity to do
When I look at PSN it makes me GlaD I’m not you.
I have Beta tests to run
There is gaming to be done
By the lucky folks with X-Box Live.

Yes their gaming on X-Box Live.
I’m paid off long and I’m on X-Box Live.
I feel exclusive here on X-Box Live.
You wait for HOME while I’m on X-Box Live.
And while you’re waiting I’m on X-Box Live
X-Box Live.
X-Box Live.

I am highly disappointed in sony for not fighting to keep this or in other words took pre cautions. But those who say sony is dead… no. This is one game that will be multi platform so im good. Im just hoping they’ll put the game on multiple disc on 360 so we’ll have a nice lengthy story. But think about it… Xbox really only has Gears of War and supposedly Halo for its “OMG this is insane exclusives” Thats all. Then comes up its average good game which are mostly multi platform. Fable 2 looks nice, NG2 could make a gamer develop anger issues (that of DMC3 or NG hasn’t) but then you got a nice FPS for PS resistance and the new infamous that has promise. IMO it is still a tie to both. All that “Im gonna sell ps3 cause it is now a 360 port” no. Im pissed cause its gonna take longer to make really and that to cut the cost to make the game, SE might take some of the game out. Im very worried about that.

772

Tanstalas  |  July 14th, 2008 at 9:48 pm

I may be wrong, but I thought that FFXIII was pushing the boundries of the Blu-Ray disc, even the double density ones, so sitting at 50G of space.

If it is coming out on 360, even with a DD DVD, you would still be looking at 6 discs compared to PS3’s 1.

Unless… Sony’s big news tomorrow is that the 360 is going to feature a Blu-Ray player addon… <— This is me trolling

The only thing that upsets me if I am reading the news releases right is that the PS3 version will be done, and then they will work on the 360 version and release them both at the same time..

Oh well, I have both the systems, will still buy it for PS3, changing discs sucks, just look at Lost Odyssey.

773

Kyen777  |  July 14th, 2008 at 9:57 pm

Ill buy it for ps3 too probably cause to me it feels right. Im used to ps3 as ive been with the PS brand since i was 6. Loved when i used to sneak and play my moms Tomb Raider game and watched her play FFVII. But having multiple discs for one game are annoying. Ive broke both disc one for both of my copies of FFVII. I had the original one and the greatest hits one. I’m so unlucky :/

774

HaVoK_08  |  July 14th, 2008 at 10:16 pm

i cannot wait to see peoples reactions tomorrow after our conference..MS had their shot and threw a sucker punch at the end, now it’s our turn to throw a nuke…stay up my brethren all will be good….

775

jqtaxpayer  |  July 14th, 2008 at 10:36 pm

Sounds good. Not as good as 360 getting access to Final Fantasy VII did to MS fanboys, but hey… we’ve got… what was it again?

776

jqtaxpayer  |  July 14th, 2008 at 10:38 pm

My bad, I meant XIII. Jesus… I even took Latin for a couple years and still screwed it up, lol.

whew, now that im passed my pissed off point. screw u still square. i just wanna hold on tight to versus while we still have it. i better get star ocean 4 on my ps3 since you screwed me again for giving ms the last remnant timed holiday exclusive. and i want a really really exlusive KH3 and ff7 on my ps3 announced tomorrow.

780

dojikyo  |  July 14th, 2008 at 10:57 pm

@768

You must not have remembered what people were saying when FF7 went from N64 to the PSOne. Square came out just fine. The N64, on the other hand. SquareEnix does need a platform but there are many platforms available Sony needs FF13 a lot more than SquareEnix needs the PS3.

Sony wasn’t willing to pony up the cash for exclusivity. It what was a short sighted move and now they are going to be stuck paying for the marketing around release, before the Final Fantasy brand gets associated with the 360.

781

tsaksyapune  |  July 14th, 2008 at 10:58 pm

like Erick Cartmen woul say, “THIS TOTALY SUKS AS@” and i would like to say, MS BEFORE E3 IS OVER U WILL SUK MY BALLS”

788

HanSolo  |  July 15th, 2008 at 12:06 am

1 sony loses ff esclusivity, very bad for future ps3 sales, especially in north america

2 psn seems to never be able to catch up to xbl in terms of feature, quality

3 while sony keeps promising, competition actually delivers, people are getting tired of promises… ( home among other things which would be an imbarassment if the xbox live similar service actually comes out first )

4 sony seems to always be too late on acting, look at the iphone for example… 1 ml sales on day 1, and with the ituns game delivery system, i would consider it competition….but sony wont until its too late, same as with they did with the 360 or wii

and finally, unfortunately every time squeenix takes sides….its like a warning, just like it happened with nintendo and ff7… maybe the tides are turning, and sony must come down to earth, realize that they are not god, and start working and delivering as good and as fast as they can, or they are done… with competition from ms, nintendo and now apple as well…. WAKE UP SONY

789

Jenovah  |  July 15th, 2008 at 12:25 am

OMG just saw the new inFamous and Resistance trailers, all is forgiven!!!! OMG tomorrow will be EPIC!

xenix  |  July 15th, 2008 at 12:48 am

I have both systems. Love both systems. I just can’t understand how someone could put so much emotional investment into a videogame company. Look, I am as big a nerd as anyone, but sh1t man, get a life, there are more important things in life to worry about. Listen PS3 fanboys: YOU’RE STILL GETTING THE GAME!

791

SickNick85  |  July 15th, 2008 at 12:49 am

Sony: Are you crazy or something??? FFXIII il your last KA and it’s the only way to sucees in europe and us…

wake up and buy Square and Rockstar and give up games because thausand and thausand people sell a ps3 and bring a 360…you’re the past like sega or Nintendo…

i can’t trust your lie anymore

Since most of you are selling their PS3. I need one cheap (150 euro’s max) for my bedroom & so I can play FF13 in bed.

Want to sell one to me, add me to your friendslist, send me a message. PSN ID: ‘xenix’.

seifer085  |  July 15th, 2008 at 1:27 am

Sony please answer to all your fans here how the hell final fantasy 13 slipped its exclusivity!!!!!!!

We remember 2.41, waiting on white knight chronicles (don’t screw this one up!)but you must understand Ps3 owners want j-rpgs!!!
Which ironically Xbox is gettin!!!!

I admit your lineup for E3 is awesome but there were 2 games I didn’t want to see compromised which is FF 13 and FF Versus 13 (call square, buy square keep this exclusive!!!)well there goes my fond memory for this E3

I truly support Sony but each of this f&ck ups make it harder! PLEASE GET UR ACT TOGETHER SONY
WE LIKE RPGS!!!! (especially exclusive ones that uses the ps3 horsepower!!!)

795

blackvapor  |  July 15th, 2008 at 1:45 am

Based on the number of apparently dissatisfied and/or disillusioned PS3 owners posting on this board, I would like to make an offer. If anyone on this post is actually serious about selling their PS3, I am interested in acquiring a 60GB original release model. My PSN ID is Blackvapor.

Onna76_NL  |  July 15th, 2008 at 2:05 am

@Xenix, you don’t get it do you? This is not about the exclusivity about a game, this is about a large group of potential PS3 owners who haven’t got a PS3 yet and among this group there are like millions of RPG fans waiting for FFXIII.

According to Chou some guy at NeoGaf Sony didn’t know “anything” about this. Sony if this is really, really, really true, god let this be true then I feel more like so sorry for you and even hate the guts of M$ even more!!!

I’m pretty surprised news of this magnitude did not leak or reach Sony’s ears.

Still, we should expect good things out of Sony tomorrow. They’re not one to sit back on their laurels after E3 2006.

@Onna76

Damn I think microsoft has one of the best political advisors money can buy. With this announcement Sony’s commitment to PS3 will really be questioned. Ps3 owners around the world are disappointed!!!
Sony if u didn’t know about this announcemnet MS got ur work cut out for you in damage control. This is a LOT WORSE than the 2.40 freezin systems. Trust me on that.
