E3 Day 2 PLAYSTATION Store Update

373 0

As promised, we’re delivering many (most, really) of the videos seen at today’s PlayStation E3 press conference to the PLAYSTATION Store for your enjoyment.

As announced at the event, the video download service will hit the store tonight, and will *not* require a firmware upgrade. Recent PSP Firmware v4.05 also enabled compatibility with the video service, for taking TV shows and movies on the go.

As far as video of the entire press conference is concerned, we’re working on converting that video now, and will post it on the Store when it’s complete, so you can see everything we showcased today.

We hope you enjoy this fresh E3 update, and we’ll have more for you as the week progresses.

  • I think the video store is great. I might use it if I didn’t have a 360 already with 5 times as many HD movies! Sony, I know you want to sell blu rays but please make movies in HD available for purchase. I wouldve already spent a lot of money on your store!

  • Thanks alot Sony for letting all those with Canadian accounts down….

  • Video Store is UP!

  • this is restarted, I’m Canadian whats the flippin problem they should of have been more specific at E3 like saying it’s US only for now or whatever instead i was all excited till now about getting the video store and then find out us Canadians get shafted

  • Canada has stricter copyright laws. In due time, they probably have to make sure they dont get sued

  • XboxLive is DEAD! Sony Rules. The video store is simply sweet.

  • Hey are people in Canada going to get the playstation video store?

  • OK.. I live in Puerto Rico with a US account and I don’t see the video store so you are telling me that I can’t? we are part of the US… hell, even my credit card is accepted by you in the US Store… I’m one of the people that really wanted this because I can transfer it to the PSP… I have to stick with the marketplace then, what a shame… it’s the first time that I talk trash of the PS3 here…

  • Lol. Sony wants to make as much money as possible, obviously. the video store will most likely hit other countries soon

  • Thanks for mentioning that the Video Store is not available for Canada.

I am not only sick of waiting for you guys to get your [DELETED] straight, I am done with it. I am going back to paying for Xbox Live. They may not have had their movie service ready for Canada out of the gate but we waited long enough for it and now you are doing the same thing. Im not doing that again.

Just thought of something too, I can actually find MS point cards in stores to buy things on marketplace with unlike your sad attempt. Funny how you can release all these games and have them on store shelves within days but getting a plastic card to a store, any store, is a mission through hell.

  • What is the resolution for the HD movies and TV shows? 720p? 1080P? It would be nice to see exactly how HD everything is on the description page along with file size and run time. If all I can download is 720p for my 1080p television, I’ll just go rent a Blu-ray disc.

  • No Video store for Canada?

    Why am I not surprised.

Sony I dont want to hear “securing rights in multiple regions is hard guys” You’re supposed to succeed despite challanges, not fail because of them.

You’ve had 2 years to secure rights in canada and work out whatever you need to with the CRTC. Not haveing it finished at the same time as the US video store is unaceptable.

FYI to all my fellow canadians: I have a US PSN account and I cant see the video store on that either so its IP address blocked.

  • The next time we hear an Hollywood studio moaning about piracy am gonna laugh. A lot!!!

  • @ Rendermonk

It’s very displeasing to see that some people aren’t grateful for whatever they were given. Sony had a well E3 compared to it’s competition! I stand by that statement no matter how many words you choose to throw at me, as it really shows that you seem to be the one that’s 12 years old.

Sony continues to deliver promising games, and upcoming services that will set it apart from its competitors. When all these games and services begin to hit the streets, I don’t want to see you sucking up after trying to make friends with me on HOME. You simply don’t understand in which direction Sony is trying to take the playstation brand, and exclusivity as of right now, is not their priority.

Name as many systems as you want, that still doesn’t justify or explain why their conference wasn’t good. Sony introduced new SKU’s and new services that are still to come,(they’re still coming, and thats all that matters,) with promising games to come out this year and the years to come. This of course will help drive more sales to increase the install base of the playstation platforms, ONE big reasony why SE chose to go multiplatform, or have you not considered how expensive it must be to develop for the PS3? Yea, Kojima did prove that a game being available on one platform can drive sales, but from a business stand point, they took a risk, a risk that SE seems to not take. If you want to be loyal, go ahead and buy FF on the PS3, with it now being available on two systems. That goes to all those who are mad about FF going to 360. (I was upset about such news, but it’s still a ps3 purchase for me!)

Get over it, compared to it’s competition, they showed a well presentation. Go somewhere and pick on Nintendo’s conference instead.

  • I could have sworn there was a Killzone video posted. But it is not there or on this list anymore. What happened?

  • @ CrimsonCalibur

Hahaha.. Yea, you’re right. I was lucky to download the video before it went off the store. But there was a Killzone 2 trailer earlier today. Dont’ know what happened though… hmmm…

  • why block Puerto Rico from the video store? is a US territory is not you would break movies copy-right laws since we are also region 1

Im very disappointed at this Sony

  • oookk… why I can access it in the PC but not in the ps3? someone can explain it to me?

  • When might we be seeing the Video Store going live in Canada? Fall? or possible later? And when it does go live will it contain the same content the US is receiving or will it be a watered down version?

  • @Captain Fury

Just move to one of the states then…. Just kidding! That would suck though… Don’t know what I would do if I were still living there. Maybe they’ll release it sometime soon.

  • @ 216

I know. I can’t believe they blocked us, when we are a territory of the United States that has never had any problems in terms of region-locking, since we too share the same region (R1).

Hopefully we’ll hear an answer to this soon. :(

  • The video store rocks ya’ll.

  • Different countries different laws. I get that part, but if you are the studio can you not work this out before launch?

  • feels like MGO beta all over again -_-

  • The video store needs to have a preview section for the videos.

  • Like the new store. Now we just have to fix the PS2 backward compatibility problem in the new PS3 80 gig due in December.

Tell that dumbass Dille to stop playing the numbers game to weasel out of Backward Compatibility.

I did in fact own a PS2, I don’t now. I play PS2 games and will most likely be buying at least 1 of those 130 titles next year.

I swear Sony is just trying to give me reason to buy an Xbox 360. A consideration I pondered over pretty heavily these last 2 days. If sony refuses to support BC for PS2 and continues this trend onto PS4, you can bet my next console will not be a PlayStation.

  • Is it me, or did the Video store just go back down? It’s no longer showing on my store….

  • Captain Fury and cmargary…are those your PSN ids? I’m in need of more Puertorrican friends in my Friends list.

  • Never mind, it’s back up… Must have been a bad load up of the store. Exited and appeared again…

Feel free to add me EktorOni. From Ponce, Puerto Rico. My PSN ID is RicanPlaya88

That’s all Sony does, is Hype people for “what’s to come”. People live in the now, Sony failed this conference to impress above the rest. I wasn’t impressed with Nintendo’s Conference either, but I am primarily a fan of Sony’s which is why today was such a painful day for myself and many other PS3 owners. You and I can sit hear and type back and forth forever and still not be on the same wave length. You’re trying to say “Sony did their best, give em some credit.” I’m trying to say “their best wasn’t good enough, just more of the same, delays and tons of hype.” I could talk at length about the fact that both MS and Nintendo now have live in-game chat abilities, and yet Sony still can’t achieve it. There most recent attempt at in-game anything was a disaster. I won’t even go there in this post. Most likely cause they are waiting to introduce the ability of in-game chat with the new HOME. But, we didn’t get a release date for HOME did we…just more of the same. Big lights and sounds at the show, great montage clips, but still no brand new games (other than MAG), and no hard release dates.

I’m not “picking on Sony’s Conference” I’m stating the cold hard truth, that Sony is a “wait and see” company, while the other 2 main competitors are bringing their goods to the table now, with most release dates by the end of this year. Yes, when all these great games that have been spoken over for the last 3-5 years finally show up on the PS3 I will be happy and saying it’s about time. In the meantime, I’m sitting here with mediocre 7.5 rated games at best, while the blockbusters and innovations are being released elsewhere today. Sony has many great features and a few solid games, but as far as the topic of this years E3 and their conference goes, they didn’t impress this paying customer and long time member of the Sony community. Say what you will on this blog, but in your home, your living room, while your replaying the same old games you’ve beaten months ago, you know you agree with me.

  • dammit i want my tekken 6

  • @Ektor

  • hey the psn

  • Silly question. Does sony have movies on canadian xbox marketplace?

  • Sony failed to mention this wasn’t for North America and was only for the US, you are going to have a bunch of pretty pissed off Canadians in the morning.

I was hoping you guys had learned from MS dropping the ball and delivering what 15 movies to Canada almost 2 years later after the movie service launched.

Might not count for much but this is pretty dissapointing.

  • You know, I was just as pissed off about this news as everyone else. I was so angry that I was screaming ‘what the [DELETED]!!!!’ at my computer screen the whole time. I was angry at Sony, and especially Square because in their earlier trailers, they implied this was a PS3 exclusive.

But now I look at this, and calming down a bit, I’ve realized that we have mostly Microsoft to blame for this because their cheap dirty tactics and dirty business deals is the reason why people will not enjoy gaming/exclusive games. Their entire conference was lackluster. They blatantly ripped off of Sony, and especially Nintendo. Then they boasted that the 360 will outsell the PS3 and have the most games in 2008.

People shouldn’t be getting angry at Sony. They should be angry at this scumbag corporation, who would want nothing more than to monopolize the gaming industry. I’m not implying that Sony isn’t to blame for this because they should have put their foot down but then again this is what separates Sony from Microsoft. Sony doesn’t need to rely on buying out third party exclusives to keep their consoles alive. They have several 1st party studios, all of which have brought really good games to the Playstation brand.

Believe me, I want more 3rd party support but it’s not the end of the world for Sony. Better things are coming and things have changed for the better. Back in 2007, I was seconds away from selling my PS3 and getting a 360 because it lacked so many games. Now, I’m glad I didn’t do that because it would be the worst mistake I ever made.

As for Sony’s E3 conference, they did a really good job. They acting very professionally, didn’t gloat like their competitors did (Nintendo and Microsoft)and they focused on what they will do for THEIR product.

FFXIII was a huge lost, and believe me I know how it feels but at least we still have the game. To prove that this game belongs here, we ought to support Sony by buying the game for the PS3. FFXIII Versus is still exclusive as well and we have other rpg’s besides FFXIII.

Calm down…it’s not going to do much good getting on like this. And before you start saying I’m kissing Sony’s [DELETED], I’m not. I’m a bit disappointed with them as well but I’m trying to be reasonable about it.

At least we have good PSN content to look forward to.

  • @ thechosefew88 & Captain Fury

    Will add you sometime tomorrow.

Still pissed about this non-sense. :/

  • @EktorOni

    yeah the same id… cmargary

    @Sony
there’s no reason to leave away Puerto Rico… what a shame really. Your competitor knows how to make this things because when the US have something Puerto Rico always have it too…

  • WHAT ABOUT CANADA!!!

  • @EktorOni

Yeah you tell me… it’s the first rant I made here… even I never said nothing about the ingame xmb but this? psst

  • I can’t get in it… I want to see the store and download Xam’d!! >_<

  • #229, you need to calm down. You sound as if you’re about to have a mental breakdown there.

  • read 211 he pretty much sums up what all of us Canadians are thinking

  • @235

    Will add you tomorrow. Thx.

Btw, relax guys. I know they’ll answer to this.

  • @ Rendermonk

I can agree with you in some aspects. Like Sony being known as to hyping for whats to come, but the promises are there, the features are there, the games are coming… You want it now, and that obviously makes you an upset playstation owner. I on the other hand, have patience for services and features to come. Maybe that’s my problem! I’m satisfied when comparing each conference side by side. Heck, even the people at yahoo made a new headline about E3 and how they think Sony had the best to show. The only drawback from this E3 was the FF let down, other than that, things would have been fine and dandy.

And by the way, a release date may have not been announced for PlayStation games and services, but no delays were made either, which is a plus on equal grounds. Now that, would have made me upset and straight fuss up to how bad Sony’s E3 was this year.

    No need to continue this…

  • great good sony just one thing where is the psn network cards in canada every time you mention some about the psn games or video store you dont mention psn network cards

  • Give us videos of Fat Princess please :)

  • I will agree with most of you and say this… SCEA needs to learn the phrase “under promise and over deliver”. Right now they have it backwards.

  • ugh the hd movies dont have surround sound? im downloading a hd movie now and and i started playing it but its only outputting 2.0. i want hd picture and hd sound sony!

  • thanks for the video store a few questions i’ll end up pasting if there’s going to be another post about this store later.

    1. What’s up with the rental policy? 14 days but 24 hours period after you start viewing? So once you start viewing it DAY 1 and then after the 24 period is up you can’t watch it anymore? what’s the point of 14 days?
    2. SD Purchases of movies is quite episode when you can buy the DVD for far less.
    3. Why are some episodes missing from some TV show?
    4. Why is Xam’d Rental only? i wanted to buy that to support the cool anime.

Get to fixing this please. and oh. Puerto Rico is part of the US. I hope you guys are up to date on your Geography too.
