MAG is squad-based, with teams broken down into 8 players, with fine-tuned soldier types, ongoing campaigns and character growth.

12.51 – Developers from Treyarch, EA Tiburon, Ubisoft, Bethesda, 2K Marin, and Lucas Arts are shown on video talking about how much more they’ve learned about programming for the PS3, and how that’s going to pay off in games like Far Cry 2, The Force Unleashed, Prince of Persia, Call of Duty World at War, Madden NFL 09, and Fallout 3. “We’re just beginning to scratch the surface of what PS3 is capable of.”

12.48 – New Hardware package: the 80 GB Core Pack coming this fall $399 – 40 more GB at that price, plus DualShock 3.

12.46 – Lee: “You can stop imagining now.” Video shown featuring lots of DC Legends like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, the Joker, and more.

12.43 – Mr. Lee is a HUGE MMO fan, been playing since Everquest began… so this is a dream project for him. “Imagine being able to create your own superhero… and help Batman take on the Joker… that’s a cool image.”

12.41 – SOE – Sony Online Entertainment – bringing titles to PlayStation 3. Jim Lee (of comic book fame) on stage now to preview DC Universe online. He’s doing 1-armed push-ups. Don’t hurt your inking hand!

12.35 With an install base of over 35 million worldwide, many more PSP games are on the way. Montage shown, featuring Patapon 2, The Force Unleashed, Super Stardust Portable, Madden 09, LocoRoco 2, NBA 09 The Inside, Lego Batman, and Buzz Master Quiz.

12.30 – Eric demonstrates how to copy movies to the PSP. You can do this either through a PS3, or through the PC Store. BTW, this video download service will be available TONIGHT (applause). We’ll be adding new titles each week.

12.29 – “How long will it take to download an SD movie?” The answer is about an hour for a 2 hour movie. However, with progressive downloading, you can begin watching your video almost instantaneously.

12.25 – Eric Lempel takes the stage (you remember him, right), to show a live demo of the video download service – it’s part of the existing PLAYSTATION Store – there’s a new video tab. Each studio has a page. Eric shows how to buy, rent, or preview a movie.

12.23 – Jack talks about the new video download service. On Day 1 – Sony Pictures, Fox, MGM, Lions Gate, Warner Brothers, Disney, and more will have content available. A huge differentiator – you can take movies and tv on the go via PSP.

sonypresser12

12.19 – Jack Tretton PlayStation Home: “Your patience will be more than rewarded.” We’ve got great publisher support on game-specific spaces. A new video is debuted showing more of what Home’s experience will be all about.

12.17 – Gran Turismo TV introduced – racing video content coming to Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, shows like Top Gear and other original content in Hi Def. Gearheads will definitely be all over this. Lots of international content. Launches August 1st.

12.14 – Jack Tretton: “We’re not interested in filling up our store with games that nobody wants to play, just so we can say ‘we have the most games.'” He follows this up with a trailer showing a number of upcoming PSN games like PixelJunk Eden, Fat Princess, Crash Commando, PAIN Amusement Park, Flower, Ragdoll Kung-Fu and Siren: Blood Curse.

12.11 – 180 million pieces of downloaded content since launch. New stuff coming to the PLAYSTATION Store – Ratchet and Clank Future: Quest for Booty. “Like a summer blockbuster – high quality, less expensive.” Q4B will answer the questions to Clank’s disappearance at the end of RCF: Tools of Destruction. Price will be $14.99.

12.09 – PLAYSTATION Network – we’re instituting a single sign on this fall – online on a PC, a PSP, PS3. Check your friends list on a PC (I think a few of you have asked for that).

12.07 – New PS2 bundle coming this fall – a new Lego Batman Bundle, along with a Justice League movie, for $149.

12.03 – Let’s talk about PS2: More than 130 new titles coming to PS2. Not bad for a 9 year old system.

12.01 – Among the announcements – we’re turning our attentions to Latin America… and a announcement of PS3 Greatest Hits. Huge applause for sackboy, Alex, and LBP!

11.58 – Alex Evans of Media Molecule is out on the stage to help Jack work through the business side of things… more on this later…

sonypresser10

11.56 – Ted has left the stage, Jack Tretton is back out to talk about user generated content. “We’ve seen a glimpse of that future – it’s called LittleBigPlanet.”

11.54 – More, even huger enemies/ships shown in an R2 video. An Idaho location has been mentioned as well. Add that to Chicago, San Francisco, and the California redwood forests.

11.53 – PS video from the Press Conference will be available on PSN, you’ll wanna make sure to see this.

11.51 – Did I mention this thing is huge? Cheers from the audience as the live demo ends.

11.50 – Ted is taking on a 300 foot leviathan (you may have read about this in GamePro) with a rocket launcher. On paper it’s one thing – in full motion, it’s something else entirely…

11.48 – Here’s a look at Resistance 2, Ted Price from Insomniac Games takes the stage.

11.46 – Jack Tretton: “If PlayStation in 2007 was all about hardware, PlayStation in 2008 is all about software.”

11.45 – Jack Tretton: “The PLAYSTATION 3 is the most complete and future-proof Blu-ray player available.”

PlayStation Press Conference

11.41 – OK back in my seat, as CEO Jack Tretton reacquaints us with the history of PlayStation and Sony Computer Entertainment. “We take a longer look ahead.”

The press conference is just about to get started and I’m up on stage playing Metal Gear Solid 4. You might be able to see me as soon as G4 starts their live video stream (look to the left side of the stage).

I’ll keep updating this post with news from the event, so check back often or keep your eyes on our twitter feed for the latest.

  • I give it a 8- just because of MAG. And I finally got what the buzz was all about with LBP. But I wish Sony would not mention Home until they release the damn thing!

I love that they have pretty much done that with the video service that would be released tonight. And please get some Trophies Custom music patch out for some major game before the end of E3 just to get another good news.

  • anyone want to buy a PS3?

  • Uhhh, that 60 seconds of Kratos kicked the [DELETED] outta anything the competition had to offer.

    @352 you are a moron.

  • @347 GHOSTM
    @349 TITESF

i’ll agree with both of you
where are the PSN cards. i was hoping you gusy would say something at E3 cause if you had im sure there would have been more positive feedback in this blog. Seeing that the video store luanches tonight and i dont have any army bases near me nor have a credit card, i would say now would be the best time to release those cards all over NA

  • @the_icon

As a PS fanboy, loosing a once exclusive title that was always ours hurts a bit because we always had a game that 360 fanbois never had and would never enjoy but now, that particular game is lost because Sony failed to discuss the exclusivity of FFXIII well with SE. The only FF game we could still gloat about is FFXII Versus.

  • @ 346

[DELETED] disgusting that they want to make us wait until TGS for Trico though

  • Failing to mention that it’s like putting Halo 3 on the PS3 without the first to when comparing.

  • Resistance for psp, MAG, God of war III, Resistance 2, Superstar dust for PSP. WOW very impress.

    But nothing about PSN cards

  • Hi Jeff,
Any word if new 80GB SKU will support backwards compatibility. One of the driving points comming from our new customers is vaule and the importance of backwards compatibility. Not so much storage, if you point out the vaules of $24.99 media card reader to ability to share photo’s amongest family members and loves ones.

Backwards compatibility up to 86% of Playstation 2 are playable on the Playstation 3 80GB.

And an improved controller offering rumble technology a 54.00 dollar vaule with a great bundled game Metal Gear Solid 4 another 59.00 dollar.

Any consumer in their right mind set can clearly see vaule in purchasing the MSG4 Bundle.

    Sincerely

    Edward

  • Just release the PSN CARDS & we will forget what happened in E3.

  • @357

what do you wanna know about PSN cards? they are already out, a lot of people have bought them

  • I just got home from work and this is all that was shown. I was thinking you guys at Sony would show FFVII for lossing FFXIII. Plus why keep making games for the PS2. People want new games for the PS3 and PSP not games for the PS2. I think the game from Insomniac is great for the PSP. But I have no need for an online game from Zipper. GOW is great but I already knew it would be shown.

Were are the real new IPs. How about bringing back Eight Days and the Getaway 3 back from the dead. Work more with Factor 5. I want to play True Fantasy Live Online.

Were is Legend of Dragoon 2. Were are more RPGs. I have to say I am a big fan of Sony but you guys were the worst out of all of the big three. Microsoft came in first then Nintendo then you guys. Why I thought you would show us what we want not just more of the same and stuff we don’t care about.

Were is the Tears of Blood game and even Johnny too. Also were is the survival hero game that was to be a new IP too.

There were so many new games Gamesblow said that were in the works and now they are gone. Bring them back and bring back Phil and have yoshida do some thing else.

Also no new game companies you guys bought come on. I want games and right now the PS3 was a big mistake. I have to hand it to you no Uncharted 2 or any thing like that was dumb not to show.

Also this just shows people if they do not own a PS3 there is no need to buy one. So I am saddened. Also no news on downloading PS2 games. No real new PS3 and PSP games suck and if I did not already own a PS3 there would be no need to buy one. Also to let you know if you do not satrt showing new games for the PSP and PS3 and not the PS2 I am going to sell my PS3. Because right now I can get every thing I want on the 360 and the version is better too.

So Sony get your act together. Buy Atari so Phil can work with Sony again. He was the mad and you need that man.

  • Speaking non-biased. The FF13 Announcement was all that MS had a their show. It was also a huge blow. But oh well. Sony….You guys showed me all the stuff that i wanted to games wise. over all i think you guys had the best show for the hardcore gamer. and when is the Home expansion??????? PLease answer

  • So, are these movies/tv shows going to be available in Canada, or like most of these services, is it USA only?

  • Will someone from Sony actually be here in the forums actually answering people’s potential questions regarding Sony’s E3 conference.

  • Breaking News !!!!!!!!! this just in PS3 is no longer a gaming machine, please direct all attention to your PsP, because it’s killing the PS3 right now.

  • Are the movies gonna be HD ?

  • @334
    Shael

maybe sony asia has more systems sold so they can afford to release a battery of random stuff cause it’s guaranteed to acquire more profit as opposed to production costs than it would here in america. for SCEA it seems they hesitate more to release questionable material. it’s probably all based on comprehensive research, we can’t see it but it is fathomable if you really think about it.. a basic knowledge of business shall help you understand, by listening to us they’re trying to integrate a corporation (with extremely sensitive factors that require balance) with a somewhat risky (Chaotic) element. so since it’s a prototype, they have to implement a sort of governmental structure within the process. I wouldn’t know how to classify it, people get paid for that. but you all understand why you singular people with radical un-costly suggestions receive no feedback? (people here will naturally rally together for the most requested things, if sony says it can’t be done they probably mean that implementing it at THAT time will interfere with the current agendas, which I’m sure were pre planned, and still changing, as well as expand over years), they don’t tell you a lot of things because they are still in a “prototype” stage within a complex web of dynamic framework and content… you start your idea from the end, your final destination, that’s how they created the ps3, to accomplish its “final” update – that’s the system’s soul, and its experiences until then are its evolution

  • “12.48 – New Hardware package: the 80 GB Core Pack coming this fall $399 – 40 more GB at that price, plus DualShock 3.”

Does this mean the 40 gb is dropping to 299?

  • @ 359 KAMAHL
ya there out but there hidding. You can go into a gamestop but they dont have them. The reason why people are complaining about the is the fact that they havent been ship into all major retailers. You can look on ebay and buy a $20 psn card for $60 bucks. but i want to be able to walk into my local gamestop and be able to purchase my PSN card anytime from now and forever

  • Impressed, glad the life with playstation is coming so soon *the end of this month*… happy to hear the movie/video store is up tonight…. and the new 256 player online game looks to be promising *find a new name for it though*…… my only real questions are:
    where is Wipeout HD
when is the Ratchet game coming?
when is the Resistance PSP game coming?
and … what are you doing to make up for the minor *but major* FFXII blow?
    Oh and when’s home coming?

  • @362 I hope I am wrong, but I think this is going to be like the apple store, in other words, Canadians once again are going to get screwed…

  • The only part I enjoy of the conference was the LBP part, but seriously… all this is just stuff we have seen and knew about. MAG SOUNDS good but we just saw a CG video… GOW3 teaser was nice, DC Online was meh.

Resistance PSP looks amazing thought, quite a nice surprise. I know you guys try to focus in all the platforms at the same time… but put more enfasis on PS3 and PSN. We need to get more 3rd party exclusive DLC for PS3, Microsoft might have most of the games the PS3 has but their strategy of Exclusive DLC is moving a lot of people to buy the game for the 360 instead (the people who owns 2 machines).

I know there is some problems in bringing all the functionalities we all want. But we need to see Home a bit earlier for us to finally see what was the big fuss about and start making HOME implementation obligatory already to developers so we can get games that have Home function and then when we get Home we can see all the goodies.

I don’t know… it was a good show but you guys need more shockers for us, that is what wins in E3 “shockers”. Unfortunately we didn’t go many of those.

Still good show overall, the presentation was really amazing.

  • @363 NinjasOwn

As mentioned before, Sony reps only reply when the comments are congratulatory.

The notion of reasoned debate and constructive criticism is alien to them.

  • I see a lot of people wanting to get rid of their PS3s…why? Becuase of SE? That’s lame. We are still gonna get FFXIII.

I’m sticking to my PS3 all the way. I get just as upset as some of you guys on here but, things doesn’t always go our way. That doesn’t mean you should give up. The PS3 has been having a hard time with bad press and that’s really their weak points. So complaining and saying you’re going to sell your console doesn’t help. If that’s your wish? Then do it and leave the blog. We don’t need anymore bad press.
I don’t see Mario fans crying and wanting to sell their W!!w!!’s after such a lame conference.

    Thanks!
Much respect to Konami and Kojima.

  • WHY DIDN”T THEY PARTNER WITH NETFLIX TOOO

  • 256 players…now I’ve seen it all.

  • OK PEOPLE, here is the reason I sold my 360 and PS3, and still haven’t changed my mind a bit on switching to 360:-

1: 360 is an exploding bomb.
2: Rockstar Dev said in an interview that, if Microsoft doesn’t do something about their DVD capacity, they might not get GTA 5.

3: We got some cool Rockstar Games, like LA NOIRE and another one.

    4: Reliability

5: Last but not least…….investment for 10 years.

  • i don’t understand, why even bother to mention Home yet again without a release date. i’m so friggin’ sick of “hearing” about home. it’s at the point where no matter what you SAY about it, unless it’s a release date, i don’t even care. that is the only reason i over spent my budget to get a ps3 and i’m still waiting. make it up to me, make me one of the new beta testers. i’ve done a myrid of betas in the past, including the most awesome 10six (now known as Project visitor, btw, you should talk to sir lawrence about maybe porting that MMO to ps3, talk about crazy awesome). in short, no more “TALK” of home unless its a release date, or my invite into the beta.

  • Stop [DELETED] and start buying hardware.
Stop complaining and start buying software instead of downloading it and crying when your favorite titles arent being produced.
Games are suppose to be fun, we will never buy ALL of the titles release within a calendar year….hell, some of us may only buy 5 a year given the economy! There are more than enough titles to keep MOST people happy until this time next year.
360 Fanboys, stop wasting your time on the Sony blog…..to even go through the hassle makes you a loser.
Sony had the BEST E3 presentation this year..easily.
It’s so easy to call someone or something a failure but I am willing to bet that it will not inspire any of the negative people to do anything better with their lives besides living with mom and playing games on HER television. You dont like how things are…fix them!!!!! If that means selling your PS3 then do it, but you dont have to let all of us all know you are getting raped by Gamestop.

  • wow the Sony press conference sucked. MS won this one. They showed alot more stuff even though its all coping others. Nintendo showed a good bit of new stuff but Sony showed nothing new that we didn’t already know except for MAG.

-the price drop isn’t a price drop since its the same as the 40 gb just with more memory which the memory thing doesn’t matter since you can put in whatever size you want.

-GOW3 announcement we already knew about. No gameplay so it failed.

-video store launching tonight was the biggest thing and even that is lackluster

    -Stop talking about the PS2

-Nothing really new with the PSP

-Nothing was shown or talked about that should have been. Where are these mind blowing games?

-The R2 demo was terrible. It made R2 look worst then the R1.

-The games that were shown was nothing new about them. Just the same old crap we’ve already seen.

-And the new features for the PS3 like that weather thing and Global ID are worthless. No one really wants those.

-The video store prices are to high. And Downloading is to slow.

There was only one or two things good that came out of the Sony conference.

    Huge disappointment.

  • @374 Half_life000111

Because NetFlix sucks, and Sony wanted to make something that was theirs and not just something ported on to the PS3.

Plus NetFlix is RED – Sony/PlayStation is BLUE (Blu-ray, blue store background, blue on black in advertisements, etc.), if anything I was expecting them to partner with BlockBuster Online.

  • Sony really dropped the ball on everything. Losing exclusives, losing partnerships, losing fans.

The year of the PS3 is dead.

  • More RPG’s Sony please!

  • Great showing Sony. The LBP presentation was just amazing and really showcases what the game can do while at the same time, spicing up your business part of the presentation.

Great lineup of games coming out throughout the remainder of the year.

  • There is nothing they could do with Blockbuster. They do not stream movies online like Netflix.

Renting blockbuster movies through the PS3 is pointless. Unless they take work out something that lets blockbusters full catalog be downloaded from the video store.

  • Good God!!!! That show rocked M$ and nintendo and you people still [DELETED] complain! You’re either trolls or nagging [DELETED].

  • please oh please tell me they didn’t loose ps3 backwards compatibility. Really hope my ps3 lasts forever.

  • @378
    Se7enwolf | July 15th, 2008 at 2:36 pm

-GOW3 announcement we already knew about. No gameplay so it failed.

I believe this announcement was to ensure it’s a green light, I recall sony’s process was a red light process… this item was probably mentioned for reassurance the plans for release are in synch. with projections

  • I really felt that PSN community and PS3 should’ve been the center of this conference. At the moment PSN is not really know for its community aspects. It’s free but very linear in comparison to it’s competitors.

Also, PSP showing seems very solid. PS3 was a pretty good showing as well. It’s just that we all knew about these titles they’ve showed today. On the positive side, at least we don’t have to wait 2-3 years before seeing these titles. Except for PS Home. Tretton didn’t even seem to sure about PS Home neither. He simply said a little thing about the PS Home Beta. I was like WHAAAAA…I was expecting a solid date or something. It’s looking like PS Home is pretty far away.

  • Will Europe be getting the movie store today as well or are we being left out AGAIN?

  • @374 Half_life000111
or because sony makes less money when they have to share with netflix

  • For some reason i thought i was gonna get maybe a teaser trailer for KH Birth by Sleep or maybe even KH3 for PS3 but i guess even that RPG isnt gonna show up on PS3

  • Also Sony is killing off Home themselves by delaying it. The people already in the Beta have said they dont like it and that its boring.

  • @383 Se7enwolf

BlockBuster has been working on an amazing online video rental service. It’s gonna be epic…

(My uncle has been working closely with BlockBuster, he’s an “Internet Consultant” or something – gets paid a [DELETED] though.)

  • plz tell me if the gow trailer is in real time?

  • Personally I’m unimpressed. I’m really happy for everyone out there that likes shooters, MAG looks like it’ll be fantastic… for those people. Too bad that of the genres Sony is losing exclusivity on (ahem, RPGS) they don’t seem to have anything to pick up the slack.

  • @373 Ghostm

Simple. Sony managed to undo all of their positive press since GDC 2007 in a 24 hour period.

Losing (of all games) FF13 exclusivity makes them look extremely incompetent.

Don’t get me started on their constant stream vaporware and questionable ethics.

Hey Sony! Answer this! When did GT TV become a paid for video download service? You implied that downloads were going to be free remember?

I guess that explains why the current video downloads are basically broken huh?

  • FFXIII…..don’t know why there are complaints, as people have stated, it’ on the PC, 360 and PS3.

But and a big but….1up is stating the 360 version MAY require more than 1 disc….

‘The company’s in the dark even on technical considerations. “The content will be the same on both platforms,” said Kitase. “However, we have yet to determine how many discs will be required for the 360 version. We’ll have to consider the differences between formats. Currently the game is being built on PC, where it’s actually functional. We’re still focusing on making it work on PS3, so it’s difficult to know how long the process of taking it to 360 will take.” ‘

I’d rather just have the one disc than have to input more.
