First look at MAG

Rade Stojsavljevic's Avatar Posted by on Jul 22, 2008 // MAG Sr. Producer

Recently we had the incredible opportunity to share with you a first look for the MAG project at the SCEA E3 Press Conference. We’re thrilled with the early responses from everyone and have been amazed at all the creative speculation about the game. If you haven’t seen the news, MAG is a new online shooter coming in 2009 where up to 256 players wage battles as 8-person squads in a new and unique World. You can watch the press event here or download it from the PLAYSTATION Store.

Though it’s early to talk in depth about MAG, we can definitely quell some fears we’ve already heard from you about how MAG will need to compromise on gameplay to support its size. Well, it may be massive but it is an action shooter at its core. You can run around and shoot enemies, throw grenades, and drive vehicles just like any other shooter except with MAG you’ll do it with up to 256 players. The team at Zipper was one of the pioneers of online gaming on consoles with the SOCOM franchise and they’ve used this knowledge to create a brand new server architecture to make an original game like MAG possible.

Here’s a sneak peak from one of our internal play sessions:

MAG 1st look
We’re anxious to talk more about MAG and all its features as soon as we can. Until then, stay tuned to the PlayStation blog for more details and official news.

The concept of this game sounds interesting but let’s hope the actual game is good.

These pictures are from the E3 conferansens the gametrailer, so do not think there photos directly from the game, but I clearly think the PS3 is able to show the 256 players with beautiful graphics at all “fireworks” and environments that the game seems to have.

There is much force in the PS3 and programmers around the world start to learn it more and more. Just like as long it took to learn the PS2 hardware force, that even today can show relatively good game graphics, even today.

This has a LOT to live up to. 250 players online, good draw distance, hi res graphics, no lagging and most importantly a GOOD GAME that we want to buy and is actually released on time.

Good luck guys, I hope this is great title for the PS3…Wee need more!

My buddy watched the video with me… He said it would be remebered as L.A.G. i hope he is wrong. I am sure that Sony would not open their mouth about 256 players unless they were sure.

i reakon respawn should be allowed once ur whole squad is dead or all remaining members of your squad are in a safe area

so many people are about to get owned in the air and the ground in that shot. at first i thought the paratroopers were dropping in away but they’re incoming i figured out, and im glad someone mentioned the rpg guy cause i thought he was rifle infantry beforehand.
and for sure, it’ll integrate first and second perspectives, the vehicles will rock, the gadgets, equipment, varied grenades/&secondary weapons will kill everything we know.

and the shots we’ve seen, if anyone else has seen the screenshot of the edge of a middle eastern complex with a barren pitch between our soldier and them, have all been in TPS with the crop leaving our soldier on the immediate left of the frame. that is all.
