Siren: Blood Curse rises today

Escape from BYOUIN

The first survival horror game available on the PS3 is coming to the PLAYSTATION Store today! We have worked on this for many a month now, and cannot express enough how anxious we are to hear what you think when you finally get to play this game!

Let me give you just a little bit of background information to get you familiar with the story, in case you haven’t seen the trailers or tried the demo yet (there’s one embedded below).

An American TV crew sets out on a journey to Japan in hopes of shooting a documentary piece about a mysterious village that supposedly disappeared under a mud slide 30 years ago. Upon arrival in this village, they immediately stumble across a disturbing ritual taking place. In the midst of the confusion and terror, a siren screams out. It’s a spine chilling sound. Is it a warning to stay away? What is the meaning of it? Why do the inhabitants keep coming back to life? What is going on here? I would love to tell you more, but that’s for you to find out…

As the player, you get to experience the unique sense of fear this game delivers as you control 7 different playable characters, each character witnessing a different part of the horror and the mystery. And of course there is the unique sight jack system, which lets you see things from the perspective of your friends and even of the deadly Shibito undead, which I think really adds to the kind of horror you can experience with this game.

You should definitely play at night, lights out and surround sound on. The shivers you will get are perfect for the summer heat.

And yes… Let’s talk about pricing and how the product will be released.

SHUKYOU KAN

So, how do you pick up Siren: Blood Curse? Very easy. Just head to the PLAYSTATION Store on your PS3 and go to the Siren category page. There should be banners up, and it should also be found in the “new releases” section. Now, the game is split into 12 easily digestible chunks, like episodes of a TV series. You’ll be able to purchase the game in three separate packs, consisting of 4 episodes each. These will run at $14.99 per 4-episode bundle. Or, right off the bat, you can purchase the full game for a nice discount at only $39.99. This is all available only through the PS Store. Remember, this is a full-length game, much larger in scale than most of the downloadable games available on the store. It’s on par with full-scale Blu-ray disc releases, and is all part of our effort to expand our selection of game content on the store.

If you want to try out the game before you buy, be sure to download the demo from the PS Store for a taste of the full game has to offer.

While you’re on the PS Store, be sure to check out the cool wallpapers and PS3 Theme we’ve come up with. There will also be a few more awesome wallpapers available next week as well.

  • Horror isn’t my cup of tea.

  • So, here goes the most tough question.

There’s the chance for Siren to come on a BlueRay Disc? Because its simple many of us can’t buy anything from the store without the PSN cards even if many of us manage to own a credit card (like me) and the PSN store doesn’t allow to complete the process cuz the information look invalid to the store when its exactly the same as represent on the credit card balance statement. Any idea… Sony…? Jeff…? Anyone…? o.O

  • I know there is probably some strategic or experimental reason for releasing this game only on the PSN, but you have to know that you will be missing a bunch of potential sales for a variety of reasons (e.g. monthly provider bandwith limits, limited space on hard drives, preference for non-digital versions, etc) by not having a blu-ray version. I like purchasing content on the PSN, but I’m not going to buy enormous files this way.

  • i cant wait to download this later tonight when it becomes available. i have no problem with it using 9gb of storage. thats what the hard drive is there for, to put stuff on it. With it being download only i dont have to worry about someone borrowing it and never giving it back.

  • Oh god. Hell YES!! Too bad there’s no blu ray version!!!!!!!!

  • They put the movie service online for us in the Puerto Rico area. Thanks guys!!!!

  • I was looking forward to this game coming out when i heard about it but after playing the demo i’m not sure anymore. I didn’t like the graphics and the way everything was all brown and kind of static like just gave me a headache…plus in the demo it didn’t even seem scary…just had to walk past the people when they weren’t looking. I hope the game is a lot better than the demo…but i’m afraid i won’t be getting it…also i don’t wanna store something that big of a file on my PS3 cause i like having my space and like to be able to delete stuff when i don’t need it anymore…kind of hard to delete something that big specially after you payed that much for it. I would prefer a blue-ray disc just for convenience so maybe whenever, if ever, it comes out on a disc i may rent it.

Thanks though for trying to make a sweet game everybody hopefully may enjoy.

    • Greystone,

This is where having the game as 12 episodes helps. Each episode is a separate downloadable file, and can be deleted from your hard drive when you finish playing it. This is an option on the episode select screen. And you can always re-download episodes and play them again if you want.

And about the game itself, the full game offers a lot more variety than the demo did, both in terms of gameplay and environments/ colors. It also gets a lot scarier. The demo is just a tiny taste of the full game, if you still want to give it a try.

  • And what an ironic problem this Trophy system has caused. The introduction of the system has basically mandated (by us) that every game released from this point on include trophies. Yet developers haven’t had enough time to implement them. Ultimately, a large chunk of people will refuse to buy this game until trophy support is added. Yet at the same time, the developer is working on patching trophies in so people will buy the game, but if they were to announce right now that they were on the way, no one would buy the game until the patch comes.

  • This game was awesome, when i first played i was in awe of the creepy atmosphere, and would squint tryng to see objects in the background where my flashlight would struggle to illuminate….wow is an understatement when trying to describe this game! PS3 forever!

  • Awesome demo. The only thing that detracted from the HORROR aspect for me was the sounds the sirens make. You referred to it as “It’s a spine chilling sound” – I’m not sure this translated to the audience. I found the sound out of place (from the incredible soundtrack and other sound effects). This is just based on the demo. So, I’m curious – do the other enemies make different noises or do they all make the same *weird* noise as in the demo? Please remember, this is obviously just my opinion and I love the game overall. But it’s the only thing keeping me from buying the full game/episodes.

    • StalkingSilence,

The enemies are the \”Shibito,\” or living dead. Kind of like zombies, but not exactly the same. And there are all different kinds of Shibito throughout the game that make different sorts of noises. If you\’ve seen the latest trailers, you\’ve seen some of the variety of enemies the game offers.

But the actual \”siren\” is not a sound the Shibito make. It\’s something completely different. So don\’t worry.

  • Yea, I upgraded my PS3 HD to a 160GB drive. Was less than $100 and makes life much easier when downloading / installing large files.

  • so i can import this from japan and get english audio and text?

i really want to play this game. i played the ps2 version and loved the demo on psn

but i would much rather have a blu ray copy.

  • bring it out on blu-ray and i’ll buy it. i’m not spending that sort of money on a worthless download.

  • Man I cant wait to get home =)

  • Can’t wait to download the full title. To those complaining of the 10gb size, just buy a 320 GB hard drive to upgrade your PS3 to, they’re under 100 bucks.

Other than that, ADD Trophy Support Sony.

  • Where are 320 GB hard drives under $100? Newegg has some for $120…

  • Yes very nice but where are the psn cards Mr.Inaba. They are not here where I live in TEXAS. If you could please respond in another blog, your respond would greatly be appreciated by every person that has a ps3.

  • I’m sorry to post this here. I hate posting off topic comments but I thought I should go strait and ask some one at Sony before this playstationlifestyle comments get out of hand. They have on there web site that says on August 3 some one from Sony will show a new first party game. So I want to know if there is any truth to this.

Also on N4G there was this post about how Sony might be looking at buying Smith and Tinker which owns the MechWarrior, Shadowrun & Crimson Skies IPs.

I highly doubt these things are real. But would be cool if true. So any chance any one can say what playstationlifestyle said is false so no one gets there hopes up even me.

  • @116 blindside82-

“To those complaining of the 10gb size, just buy a 320 GB hard drive to upgrade your PS3 to, they’re under 100 bucks. ”

    lol

ok, so if it’s no big deal, then give me the $100 to buy a new drive mr. moneybags.

some of us thought the $499 we spent on our PS3’s was enough!

  • So basically people who don’t have internet at home for their PS3 are screwed right?

Good job sony. Guess I’ll have to import the blu-ray copy from Japan.

  • I downloaded the demo last week and it was fun and scary.

I would buy it, but I just spent money on gas and school :(
I’ll have this game in a couple weeks though.

  • I have a couple of questions.

    1) How much HDD space will this whole game take up?
    2) Will this game be released on Blu-ray?
    3) Will it have trophies implemented at a later date?

I would hate to give up all that space on my HDD. I don’t think it’s worth it.

  • Please release this in Bluray format!

  • I am so looking forward to this game! Keiichiro has been one o my favorite producers since I first played it on a 15-inch tv with wrong cables, making the game black and white. True horror. Too bad I ain’t gonna touch this game until it goes Blu-Ray like sooo many others want it to.

Look, not that many people are going to download a 10 GB game, perhaps in five years when Terabyte hard drives and something better than broadband is standard. There’s just no way this is going to work. Or be profitable.

I know I can import the game from Asia but I’m quite a perfectionist so I want all my games to match up.

So it comes down to the question everyone keeps asking; Will there be a Blu-Ray release world-wide, or at least in Europe?

  • ………………………………………
    ………………………………………
……..I will only get this if it’s on disc. Put it on disc Sony. Stop testing new water with a 9.1gb Playstation Store game…………………………….

  • Thanks for the post.

Looks a bit too gruesome for me though.

  • thanks for the update

  • So is the game out yet on PSN store?

I’ve been waiting all day now…

  • OMG! okay the PSN doesn’t update till around 5pm EST and the siren demo is good also wish it was on a disc but I have a 250GB HDD drive as well so I’m not worried about space trophies aren’t a big deal for me but it would be nice also I believe this game has been in the making for sometime now so no it is not going to have trophys but a patch probably will be made and as for Life it was stated by the ebd of this month you may get it to day who knows.

  • The demo was awesome and I want to play the game badly…but where the hell is it!!! LMAO????

    :(

  • its not so much the size of the game to me. i’m kinda old school in liking to have a tangible copy of a movie and/or game in my hands.

i like to be able to share with my family. i also have 2 ps3’s in my home. by end of the year 3 ps3’s in my home. (one in my bedroom, one in my sons room and one in my living room)

having a physical copy is sort of key for us at home. its why i have 2 copies of gta4, 2 copies of cod4, 2 copies of ffxi, and will have 2 copies of resistance 2 and socom.

i have to decide which ps3 gets the download.

    • Siren features standard PSN DRM, meaning it can be downloaded to up to 5 PS3s using the same PSN account that made the original purchase. So you could download to multiple PS3s in your house and just move your save file when you play in a different room.

  • @LoLskilled87 read my post man I just said it lol.

  • Please please update the store, can’t wait to DL this baby

  • @ 132 – I feel where you are coming from. I have 2 PS3’s in my home. I also prefer my memory is used for media and game installs. Unless it’s a regular PSN title, I will download it. But 9 almost 10GB’s is too much Sony. Give us a Bluray copy of the game and you will see better sales. My cousin has a 40GB and he won’t download Siren due to the space he has.

  • I’ll have to try the demo or something because that looks pretty sweet.

I like the fact that although this could have qualified as a retail game, that it’s being released at $40… massive kudos to all involved in passing on the savings of direct downloads to the consumer. Thanks!

  • @Joe,
Are you really sorry for posting here? Why don’t you just wait.

  • Hello PlayStation Bloggers,

Thank you all for the very positive response.

Yes, it is unfortunate we have not been able to incorporate the trophy system support feature…

Due to the episodic nature and extensive storyline in Siren Blood Curse, Trophy support was not a priority during development, nor was it a great fit for this particular title.

However, there is good news too!

I have noticed many of you are concerned of disc space on your PS3’s.
With many thanks to modern day technology, Siren: Blood Curse allows players who have once purchased the episodes to delete episode data from their system, but later come back to re-download if and when necessary. For those of you running out of HDD disc space, you can avoid a situation where all of the game data is sitting on your system, when you are only playing a portion of it. You can do this on a “per episode” basis too.

As for the re-playability, the answer is certainly YES.

Siren: Blood Curse can be played in Easy or Normal difficulty levels, and there are items you pick up through game play that are added to your archives. Most of the items are not a “must have” to make progress in your game play, but they just might give you hints of what is taking place in this cursed village of Hanuda.

Game play will take an average game anywhere between 1 to 2 hours per episode. The length of episodes will range slightly, but doing the math, its a good 20 plus hours of solid horror-packed game play. We support SD resolution too.

The free demo we put out was just a small portion of the actual game. I’m sure you will love the rest!

As “the_culture” kindly pointed out on post #82, Siren: Blood Curse is available in 3 different packs

    – Episodes 1 to 4
    – Episodes 5 to 8
    – Episodes 9 to 12

    each at $14.99

    OR

the whole game from Episode 1 to 12 at $39.99.

I hope all of you enjoy this game as much as I did.
Honestly, I wasn’t a fan of games from this genre, but I really liked this one, even if it made my arm hairs raise many a times.

    Thanks everyone!
    Tsubasa

  • @ StalkingSilence no I love posting here. Just I did not like posting what I said
(off topic) but you should see how many people are taking a guess at what it could be a that site plus N4G.

So I would hate to see people get mad at Sony when the truth would be playstationlifestyle made the comment. That is all I was saying. Its not like I am asking Sony to say what the game is just that if Sony knows it is fake to say so.

  • Will the Japanese Bluray work the same on my PS3? When I play it will my friends see the name of the game displayed under my PSN in English or Japanese?

  • hay i live in California and i still haven’t gotten the update for the game on the store can anyone give me a eta of the game what time it is expected to arrive in the play station store.

  • so when the hell is this game coming out?

  • Trophies would be nice. Just bundle them with each 4 part pack. Obviously, to get all the trophies you will need the full game or all 3 packs, but rewarding the players for what they play would still be nice. I hope the hit or miss nature of what games have Trophies in them will not last much longer. It is an awesome system that gives games a replay value instantly. Regardless, I’ll be picking this up tonight. Loved the demo.

  • the US-Store is always updatet around 4 or 5 p.m (the timezone is the timezone like you see in the blog , so its 2p.m right now )

In EU-Store the game is out yet but I didnt like the demo so much , sry i’ll wait for RE5 ^_^

  • @Tsubasa-

thanks for answering some of our questions and telling us about the game more-

it is always appreciated when the developers respond!

i played the demo, and it is really spooky, and so dark i had to adjust my tv! lol!

hopefully the japanese Blu-ray disc will work on my PS3!

    thanks again for commenting!

  • zomg its on usa ps store now !!!

  • i dont mind the disk space ill just buy a new hard drive in the future, besides there are very few games that are this big so i dont mind, anyways im downloading all 12 episodes, the demo really delivered the solid gameplay the game has,it was a little short but sweet,as for the trophies i really want to see the trophies in this game specifically sure it has difficulty settings but the most replay values are hunting for the trophies, mabie in a later update if this game sells well wich i know it will!

  • i like the replay of the weapon hunting,i also understand why the game doesnt have trophies, they finished the game first then they should concentrate on the trophies maybe an update later now that the games done!

  • Hey thanks Tsubasa for the reply. I had completely forgotten that you could redownload stuff if say downloading it the first time didn’t work or i guess like you said where you may happen to delete it.

Plus a friend was talking to me the other day about the fact of maybe finding a bigger HDD to give yourself a lot more space. So either way if i decide to get a bigger HDD or delete any of the episodes after i’ve purchased them, to redownload them later on, i might consider checking Siren out. Thanks again.
