    DTS MAN

  • nice update
man lots of people complaining again dont u guys ever shut up?

  • I love Updates but what i really want to have and i think that everyone will agree is that we have

    *InGame XMB for PS2/PS1/DVD/Bluray
*Backward compatibility for PS2 for all PS3 models i mean its not our fault that you guys stoped sellin the 80gb for a little :(
    *Fix Battery Indicator over Clock

Please Consider makin these improvements thanks!!

  • Sony give us this kind of updates for something so bring it on… it’s good for me… still waiting for life with playstation, even news.

A little off topic… the other console is crushing the ps3 in hardware sales this month. You heard the people, make a price cut.

  • I guess these updates really do help. I put in heavenly sword a few days ago and the frame rate was fine in the cut-scenes were it used to kinda suffer. Uncharted and Ratchet don’t freeze on me anymore :). Or maybe it was my cleaning the lens that helped?

  • @353
the 80 gig thats coming out is a 40 gig with 80 gig hard disk

  • @353
so no compatibility with ps2 games

  • it time to take the online store to a place its never been on any system.we now have movies, and game now it time to take a bit farer a music store.u guys can also add home integration to it by using home to promote new release of cd by letting us listen to a few song from the cd before its release.

  • does anyone no when the game home is coming out?

  • Eric,

Great job with the updates, esp. In Game XMB.

What I believe will continue to contribute to PS3’s success is to try to duplicate (and then improve on) all the social networking features that XBOX Live! provides. Especially the ability to send and receive voice messages as opposed to just plain text.

    Thanks
    Desi

  • hopefully a good update!
You really should make Remedy do a remake of
    Death Rally for the psn!
And make them do Max Payne 3! (whould be a great exclusive!)
Buy the whole friggin company why dont you?

Just some thoughts I hope you read,
heres my list of more shortsighted wishes:

    REQUESTED FEATURES
    *InGame XMB for PS2/PS1/DVD/Bluray
*Backward compatibility for PS2 for all PS3 models
    *Fix Battery Indicator over Clock
*Music Playback from Network and USB ingame
*Show what icons cannot be used in in-game xmb some way
*the ability to change PS store server location(JAP, US, EU) without changing PSN account?
*Auto Timer to Shut Off Controller ( Set to Own Liking Example: 5,10,15,20,25,30 mins )

  • A Yurp! I hope it help’s the online play of Army of Two. It’s freaking crap for sure! T*R*U

  • Mr. Lempel, I sincerely hope that this update fixes the voice communication problems in Warhawk that began immediately after the 2.40 update was released. I am quite annoyed that you do not name the software that is affected by this new update.

  • A Yurp! I hope it help’s the online service for Army of Two. It’s freaking crap for sure! T*R*U

  • Hi Sony!

Why dont you wnat to explain your error codes? We have to guess what we done wrong or look for something like this in the internet –

80029945 – Can’t playback burn BDr movie (error in picture above)
80029946 – Attempting to play burnt Dual layer NTSC disc on a Pal ps3 (workarouns is to transfer files to ps3 via TVersity) (added 24th Sept 2007)
80029301 – An error occurred during the delete operation (attempting to delete some ps2 homebrew from virtual mem card) (added 15sept2007)
80029516 – Sign in to PLAYSTATION-Network (needed for some games or Ps3 processes – have to sign in to use them) (added 04-sept-2007)

P.S. Great game console and thanks for awesome games.

  • @Trat

You’re mistaken here, I am developer but not as skilled as they are – I followed 2 years of programming courses at low level which means I’m not at all a C/C++ expert and don’t even consider programming with it – using pointers and properly manage memory is a pain in the ass and this kind of job is now left to experimented developers.

I’m not skilled to program big apps but that doesn’t mean I don’t have the right to critisize what Sony and devs are doing :

Here’s how think too many devs :

“Allright – having a hard drive allows us not to understand the full architecture of PS3 and even if the game has many bugs or crashes at some point – we’ll be able to fix it later.

Here’s a list of games I have that require installs on the hard drive :

    – Ratchet & Clank (not much only 350MB)
    – Assassin’s Creed (several Gigabytes – plus a laggy game that required a patch later to prevent regular crash)

    – Metal Gear Solid 4 (max 4GB)

    – Devil May Cry 4 (4GB – a few PS3 crash during loading times)

    – GTA 4 (4GB)

    – Top Spin 3 (4GB – crashed only once – alradly patched game)

Trat, please, look back at PSOne / PS2 / Xbox era, not ANY game could be patched – so devs had to make sure their game run properly before releasing them, but now – sorry about being so harsh but we’re getting screwed – devs HAVE TO do a little more testing.

  • Would you mind giving us advance noticed? There’s nothing like planning a game night and having it torn down because everyone is spending all night downloading the latest update.

  • Would you mind giving us advance noticed? There’s nothing like scheduling a game night and then having no one make it because we’re all downloading the “suprise” firmware update.

  • Btw, your blog gives 404s after submitting comments using IE7.

  • u ever notice how firmware updates get way more comments than anything else? he didn’t even write 3 lines and we have nearly 400 comments already. if you look at them it’s like 80, 70, 90, 400!! there are more things in life than firmware updates.

  • Thanks for the update.

  • Sony please fix the mic problem what occurs in COD4 after yall released the 2.4 update, why dont you google COD4 mic problem and you will see

  • Sony please fix the COD4 mic problem that occured after 2.4 was released. just google COD4 mic problem and you will see what I am talking about.

  • Things I’d still like to see:

    1. Allow us to change the color of the XMB text.

    2. FLAC support, 5.1 FLAC/WAV/MP3 support.

    3. MKV support.

    4. Clock on/off option and a change of position so it doesn’t conflict with the battery indicator.

    5. I *NEED* SUBFOLDERS FOR MY FILES. ::sigh::

  • I want to be able to listen to my music in every game that I play no matter what the game is.

  • Seconded (thirded..) for the MKV support.
(don’t let me spend my time writing convertors ;) )

And fix the error in AVI files with non standard mp3 files. (no qpel, no gmc, and still a unsupported error, while doing a stream copy for video with a mp3 recode did work). If you need samples… let me know.

Qpel and GMC on avi would be great as well.

Ow, and a workaround for non standard AVCHD files where the resolution 1920×1080 or 1280×720, so it shows a green bar under the file, and doesn’t display subtitles.

And recoding of 5.1 AAC mp4 files to 5.1 AC3 output for spdif amplifiers.

and soft subs support also for MP4.

(hey, everybody is just dumping a wishlist here expecting it to be fixed, so I thought I’d join in :D )

  • In a future firmware update I’d love to see a control for overscan like in metal gear solid 4. Some of us can’t correct our overscan for various reasons and that addition would help a lot of people out.

  • Shame it’s too hard to move the clock or the controller charge indicator… Sigh…

  • keep ’em coming – I’m always looking forward to the future updates!

  • I’ve got a request, is there any way to make these minor updates that don’t expand the functionallity of the PS3 a background download affair?

  • here is a brilliant f’n idea how about making yout back-up utillity work RIGHT

i just today received my new PS3 (after i mailed back the first faulty one) and did a back-up restore on the new console to recover all my game saves and hundreds of hours of work that i entrusted your retarted console to be able to restore thus the point of the whole back-up utillity none the less i learned today to never trust any thing sony has programmed as NONE OF MY GAME SAVES ARE THERE Y THE HE11 NOT !!!!!!

YOU SONY PUNKS OWE ME MORE THAN A NEW PS3 U OWE ME THE TIME I SPENT PLAYING YOUR GAMES ON YOUR FAULTY MACHINE AND I WASENT ABLE TO RECOVER THEM USING THE RECOVERY TOLL F#CKIN FIX IT!!!!

  • @ Dexter

I completely agree with you about how I wish developers would take more time with bug testing there games rather then releasing it early and the customers becoming the bug testers. Hell I’m not being paid by the developer to bug test the game. Unless you would like to send nice hefty checks to 123 Main St. then I would be happy to bug test your games. J/K It actually feels like they are starting to think they can get away with something and think they can release bug filled PS3 games. I really don’t like that!!!

    @ korn 16ftl

I am sorry your PS3 got messed up and you lost your saves but you do realize that the Back-up Utility is supposed to be used *BEFORE* you send it in or reformat your Hardrive. I am trying not to be a smartass but it seems like common sense to me.

  • i like updates,, updates are good 4 u an your ps3. lol

  • Why do the updates take so bloody long to download?!? Please fix this!

…oh, and quit making us go through this terrible update process unless there’s actually something useful in the update.

  • back in April you guys Blogged About the Playstation Network Cards its now the End Of July starting to become August and wondering where are the Network Cards you are killin me with the wait and how can I purchase anything if I don’t have a Credit Card to make purchase with

  • not to mention i cat recover my FUV*ING PSN SH1T

  • i did use the backup utillity before sendin it in i used it on the origional PS3 thus my problem

  • this is way wrong, not the update but the means to which we all have to make a contractual agreement to something we ARE NOT informed about. i don’t think anyone at sony would sign a contract without knowing the details. yet ps3 and psp users are constantly FORCED to update the firmwares without any information as to what we are downloading or actually agreeing to. sure sure, we could not update and not play our games online. but i don’t think thats what anyone paid for when they bought this 400-700$ peice of hardware.
TELL US WHAT WE ARE DOWNLOADING/INSTALLING SO WE CONSUMERS CAN BETTER CHOOSE WEATHER OR NOT TO UPDATE.

  • now there is something worth bloggin about,!! me needs a card like now!!!

  • @ korn 16ftl

OK I assume you know you are supposed to back it up to an exernal Hardrive or some kind of Flash Card like a Memory Stick Duo,SD Card or a Compact flash Card. Although you most likely won’t be able to fit all your saves onto any of those Flash Cards since even if you have the biggest card which I believe is ATM a 16GB it is far too cost prohibitive to use. Your better off usinga External Hardrive. Saves don’t back themselves up onto the PS3.

  • thay even need a better PSN recovery thay just suck im going to play 360 now

  • @wolf26pack ya i am aware i ran the whole friggin deal that took 4 hrs to back up the HDD and ya i used a 250GB external HDD for the back up the point is back up means back up all of the data not just 1/2

  • At Trat, Nice post man, couldn’t have said it better. I love your wording. To other people out there having a hard or long time to download the update. Power Cycle all you equipment.
    1. Unplug both modem and routers power cords from the back of each device.
    2. Plug modem in FIRST, wait for some light to go solid and some to keep flashing.
    3. Plug in the power, back into your router, same as modem, wait for lights.
4.Now turn on ps3. Update and marvel at how much faster it will be.

This is something all must do to have fast net. Your modem and router ( if you have one) has a very small limited chache size and needs to be “cleaned out” once a month to ensure fast connect and surf.

Also, if you are with At&T they are booting people for using Wireless connectivity while using P2P technology, I think it may be time for Sony to step in and give at&t the lowdown on the network and how it behaves.

  • ALL WE WANT S THAT F**** LIFE WITH PLAYSTATION!
    SO GIVE IT TO US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @ korn 16ftl

So it sounds like it did back-up something just not everything you wanted it too. I have never used the back-up utility before but I would think that you should be able to back-up these items

    – Photo’s
    – Music
    – Video’s
    – PS1,PS2*,PS3 & PSN Game Saves

*Note when putting your PS2 games on your PS3 via the Memory Card Reader they are still on there. They are just copied over. they may not be updated as far as your game progress goes but at least they are at the point you last left off at once you put them on the PS3.

As for things such as Patches,PS1 Games,PS3 Demos,PSN Games & Expansion Packs. As far as I know you should be able to re-download them via the PSN store. I know it sucks having to re-download all that stuff but at least it is possible. but…

*BEWARE* When it comes to TV & Movie Downloads that you bought if you lose them you CANNOT re-download again no matter what. If you want to know it says it in the Terms of Service for the video store so BEWARE!!!

  • @395
    get a life man.

  • @396 ya i know i have a lot of $$ into download content and now its telling me that my PSN sighn in e-mail dosent exist im calling sony now i know everything i have for log in infor is correct this is really starting to urch me

  • what pisses me off even more is sony never sent a confirm e-mail that i set up the acount so i dont have this information in my e-mail hell i dont even know who to kall about this

  • @ korn 16ftl

Ahh that is a problem. Unfortunatly now a days you have to make sure your [DELETED] is completly setup before plunking down the big $$$ for content that you don’t have directly in your hands. I would say do exactly what you said you were going to do and call Sony and give them as much info as you can about your account hopefully they can figure it out and fix it for you.

    Good Luck with that.

    @ Minas

I just checked out what you were talking about with not being able to Fast Forward/Rewind/Pause when having music playing and using either the Slideshow or Browser. Ya it’s true but it’s not a big deal to most although i do agree that in the Mini Player at the top of music list now should have those options available and when in In-Game XMB the L2 & R2 triggers should be used for the Rew & FF Functions and start for pause. I am sure it will come some time but when is all up too Sony.
