@401 well its a done deal all thay do is verrify ure player name your name and your e-mail and resend you a temp password unfortunatly its a wait of 24 – 48 hrs to get that e-mail but w/e the next problem is i had 2 master accounts and some of my content was downloaded by a buddy fortuanitly he used my email as well for the id so it might be a bit easyer to retreive that data once i get my sh1t str8ened out
the only thing thats left eating away at me was all the hrs i spent playing these games and now i dont have the saves any more next time ill concntrate on backing up the inportant stuff rather than trusing the machine to do what its supposed to do in the first place
i downloaded i the update today and it worked fine and it downloaded within a hr. you can’t expect to download someting quickly during rush hour. it’s like trying to see a popular movie on opening night without pre-ordering. not everything is instent. if something stops working after the update, save you files to external flash drive/s then reformat the quick one.

Ya if you have a 20,60 or 80GB PS3 that has a Flash Card Reader in it. I would use those to back up your saves even on to your computer. Just to make sure you don’t lose any more of your save data. Just try to remember to do it regularly.
Can’t download this on the PS3 the thing is so slow. Keeps giving an error.
Trying the direct link someone posted on the first page and now I know why. At first it said 3k/sec, but it downloaded 2.6 mb out of 130 mb and hasn’t moved in minutes.
Funny that the psn network is supposedly “online.”

my launch PS3 actually bricked about a month ago, and i had the foresight to back up my saves, but not my most recent ones, so i had to start all over in Metal Gear Solid 4 on my interim PS3.
Luckily for me, and actually competent of Sony, when my original PS3 came back, it actually had all my saves on it!! amazing, but true.

seriously, what the hell are you guys doing with these updates? the past month has been nothing but a headache. every update and ‘fix’ just brings more and more problems for my unit. i guess improving playback quality means making online games unplayable and causing all games to lock up?
and i’m sick of support’s dizzying lack of knowledge or assistance on any of my issues. i know this isn’t the place to register my frustrations, but to top everything off, the PS forums aren’t working! huzzah, Sony!
gaming is supposed to be fun, not a constant struggle just to keep your console in working order.
I love updates. I just bought my PS3. Could there be a update that will allow you to shut off the PS3 while you charge your controller? Thanks
We also need updates that will allow people to preview movies before we rent or buy them. This is the year for the PS3!
Ok. So two things on my wishlist.
1) The PSP has the option to show thumbnails of the videos at certain time. I want that damn it!
2) Is there any way you could make the updates incremental? Because I want to download a demo and 130 MB for some things I don’t even’t need it’s bad.
At least gave us background download for the firmware update. I mean, if I can download it from the Internet and put it on a USB, I am sure it can be done that way. So at least we could watch a Movie till the download is gome.

Another vague update, i’m very dissapointed. Not so much because of this update, its just i found out that video download/rental in PS3 store is only available in United States, i mean C’MON! i live in Costa Rica, that’s one of the main reasons i bought a PS3 and i’m never gonna get that service because i’m sure it isn’t coming to Costa Rica. And i’m not the only one thinking like that, theres a bunch of forums trying hard to bypass the IP security of whatever to get access to the video store so thanks Playstation, for giving Xbox live more points ahead.
Also great work with the PS headset with Socom ,and those games little big planet, MAG and playstation home, that i got to congratulate

It would be nice if the firmware allowed playback of music while playing any game. I know it was said before that the developer is responsible for allowing music playback during a game, but it would be better if a firmware update did away with that and allowed the user to play music regardless of whether or not the developer allowed it. I guess this shows the limitations of not having hardware dedicated to the user interface like the 360 does.
Additionally, I hope you guys can talk with some of the people at Namco Bandai and ask them if there will be a patch to add rumble to Soul Calibur IV. Devil May Cry 4 has rumble and it came out 5 months before Soul Calibur IV. This seems like quite the oversight, especially considering that the 360 version of Soul Calibur IV has rumble.

60GB version of PS3 here. After installing that new 2.42 version of software and rebooting system it says that HDD has been corrupted and PS won’t boot up to main screen anymore.
It says that HDD is corrupted, and accepting that it’s starting to restoring it’s filesystem and reboots. After reboot it goes to same state again.
Any ideas, or did I just got worlds most expensive brick?
Are there any plans for future firmware updates to implement lossless audio support?
FLAC, APE and ALAC would be greatly appreciated, and would make the Playstation 3 a good contender for the greatest multimedia center around. At least give us ATRAC Advanced Lossless, since that is a Sony codec.
Launch 60GB Ps3 Here….bricked yesterday within an hour of the update.
It locked up first in game twice, then in the internet browser, then never came back. Sending it back for the $149….but makes me very sad..it was my media center and was working great…

I heard reports of PS3s bricking after downloading the update. I’m a little afraid to download it myself now. Will there be another firmware update to remedy this problem?

I thought firmware 2.42 would fix this problem but guess not. Can someone at sony fix the bluetooth mic issue. I play warhawk for 2 games then on the third game no one can hear me. Then life with playstaion gets delayed, whats going on sony please fix our mic/let us know something its very annoying that i have to restart my playstation over just for people to hear me. Even more so when im hosting a game. 2.43=mic issue fixed plz.

for future update, eliminate non-usable features in “in-game-XMB”. As it makes interface messy and inefficient. Just leave future options that will be usable but eliminate the rest.
For instance, for the xbox360 the in-game menu have less options than the dashboard.

um they do not have it there “clear as day”. They mention 2.42 but they do not give update notes for it hence why people have said vague. All the stuff on that page was from 2.40, none of it came with 2.42. 2.42 was only to make games run better supposedly, we want to know which games is all.

I downloaded this update then began playing Assassin’s Creed. Normally this game would flicker violently on white filled screens (the opening ones with credits on them). This issue has been solved.

40 Gb PS3 for me.
did the update last night and no issues. i have never had any issue doing a firmware update…i dunno why its happening for some of you.
did PS3.PUP > ps3 folder > UPDATE folder to a 1Gb usb stick then connected to the console. it picked up on it right away by reading to the storage device from the interface menu. took 5 minutes to do and fired up Heavenly Sword shortly afterward.
when i was done and went to turn off the console from the menu interface, i noticed that the icon was changed from the previous update that had first brought this function into play. that made it clear to me that the update went through fine.
Is there a way to easily delete any data that resides on the PS3 after each system update? I read that each of these updates continue to take up hardware space.
I eventually plan on getting a bigger HD, but I did not know if there was a way to get rid of older update files easily, or if such a tool could be included in a future update.

so after i got the software update. i went to go play cod4 and right when it starts the first game in multiplayer online it freezes or i can play one game and after that the screen is just black. i thought it was the game so i tried haze online and it was working for a lil while then when i would switch to the next gun and it wasnt there no more. then it started glitching. like the updates but im not liking this one. is anyone else having this problem after the software update? i dont want to send it in and have all my saves wiped out…..

This update cracked my PS3, can´t read bluray anymore it give error 80010017.

maybe try installing the firmware update alternatively?
i download from my pc right on to my usb storage device and then transfer it to my PS3 – it picks up on the usb right away and installs it just fine. the whole process takes 5 minutes.
have always done it this way and never ever have had any sort of problem. you people should try it yourself.
