Deborah Mars here again. We’re so excited to be releasing PixelJunk Eden tomorrow (Thursday, July 31) on the PlayStation Network. Dylan Cuthbert and his team at Q-Games in collaboration with Baiyon, a Kyoto-based multimedia artist and DJ, have really outdone themselves here.
Now I know I’m biased with all my PixelJunk love, but seriously…this is one outstanding, addictive, gorgeous, amazing game. So I just wanted to take a moment here and mention some of the really cool “firsts” that the team has achieved with this title, and highlight some of the things that we really love about it.
1. Trophies
This is the very first game to launch with trophies. And just so you know what to be gunning for when you play, here is a complete list:
BRONZE
- All Seeds 01 – Open all seeds in garden 01
- All Seeds 02 – Open all seeds in garden 02
- All Seeds 03 – Open all seeds in garden 03
- All Seeds 04 – Open all seeds in garden 04
- All Seeds 05 – Open all seeds in garden 05
- All Seeds 06 – Open all seeds in garden 06
- All Seeds 07 – Open all seeds in garden 07
- All Seeds 08 – Open all seeds in garden 08
- All Seeds 09 – Open all seeds in garden 09

- All Gardens Clear – Get a Spectra in each garden
- Combo Ten – Pollen Prowler combo x 10
- Combo Fifteen – Pollen Prowler combo x 15
- The Hundred Thousander – Get 100,000 pollen in one garden
- 500 Dead Pollen Prowlers – 500 Pollen Prowlers killed
- Ten Minute Grimp – Get all 5 Spectra from a garden within 10 minutes
- Fifteen Crystals – Get fifteen crystals in a single jump
- Zero Wasted Pollen – Open all seeds in a garden without missing any pollen
- Three Play Ping Pong – In 3p mode, trapeze jump between two swinging Grimps
SILVER
- All Spectra Found – Get all the Spectra in all gardens
2. YouTube video upload support
How cool is this? It’s a great feature that allows you to capture up to 10 minutes of video footage of your Eden gameplay and then either save it to your XMB or upload to YouTube and share with your friends and the world. So hey, pulled a sweet co-op combo with your friends that you want to show off? Having trouble finding that last Spectra in garden 8? Now you’ve got the proof to back up your bragging rights…or at least accept the fact that you might need just a little bit of – ahem – help. :)
3. PSP Remote Play
OK so this isn’t a first. But it’s worth pointing out anyway so you can take PixelJunk Eden with you wherever you & your PSP go.
4. Accolades
Great news: We’ve just learned that PJ Eden won a Cheat Code Central award for “Best Puzzle / Arcade Game of E3 2008.” We’re really pleased with all positive response on the title, and thank you all for your support. If you haven’t played some of the other titles in the PixelJunk series, be sure to check out Q-Games’ other titles, PixelJunk Racers and PixelJunk Monsters + Encore.
5. Music & Art
We’re really loving the music and visuals that Baiyon created for PixelJunk Eden. You know the music is good when you can listen to it over and over and over again and it is still kicking. There’s more than 100 minutes of music in the game total, and be sure to stay tuned for an upcoming interview right here on this blog with Baiyon and PJE’s game director “Tomi” (Tominaga Shouichi).

The store updates at roughly the same time each week, so why get all impatient when that time hasn’t even arrived yet?

i’m pretty sure it does update 5-8 these days…. at least the past few months… its all i look forward to when i get off work. but it did used to update late wednesday night…. dont forget the time it updated on a friday
last thing, why would so many people be wondering where it is if the update was supposed to be tonight?
I’ve never seen so many people wondering about when the store update would be done, let alone on the day it should be on…

All of you guys need to relax. I used to be impatient for PSn updates, hell they didn’t release the COD4 map pack till 4 the next morning on friday. I even complained about the SSDHD team pack that wasn’t there for a week after they said it was. If it’s not there, just wait. Being impatient, no matter how vocal you are about it, isn’t going to get sony to move mountains for you. Wait till midnight tonight when it’s actually the day past when they said they’d do something about it to fill up this blog.

you see thats not the point… mainly so they know we are not happy about this. we want a Thursday release to be on a thursday, like about midnight… thats how i feel… it’s far from just being thursday.. it’s close 3/4 through the day for you east coasters… i’d figure you’d be the one’s pissed. it’s only 2pm for me… i still got all day
i can guarantee it’ll be there by 9 pm est cause that’s about the latest i’ve ever seen their weekly updates come out

I’m an adult. I don’t cry and whine like a little school girl whenever I have to wait for something.
If the store isn’t updated until next Tuesday, who really cares? I have a life outside of my PS3.
And I don’t live in your country, so I’m not subsidizing your life of inability and laziness.
to the author of post 47, i think its too fast for you to say that the game is just ok. i believe you havent explore enough in the game. honestly first time when i see the video demo of Eden, i dont even know what is it about and i find it crappy. the day demo is out i download it straight just to find out what its all about. When i first try the game i find it boring. as i dont even know what i am doing in this game. but after giving it another chance i finally start to figure whats my objective and etcs. and i try to explore more to learn more about the game. the more i go thru the game playing it over and over again it start to become really addictive. in fact a friend of mine who dont play such game cant leave the controller when he try the demo after i explain to him whats his objective in the game. its actually better than just an average game. its not that kinda awesome game that everyone shouldnt miss since i believe there is no game out there that can cater to everyone. but this is definitely a great game rather than just an ok game like you describe. and i truly agree one thing is that its really very original to its own class and nothing similar to this game in any way you can find out there. really unique game. the trophy system isnt what that draw me to this game. but the game play does. and i love the fact that you can play this remotely with your psp if you have one as well which is really great for such an addictive game. so i can play it even while i am away from home. i think maybe you should really give it another go and try to explore more about the game. just my opinion. you may still disagree but honestly i really enjoy the game and yes in case you might think i am not. i am a pretty hardcore player.

BIG-SLUG, i agree about waiting to be “mad” till tonight but not to share my opinion. this blog was what mad us a little pissed.
they came on here “yesterday” bragging about a not so big list of trophies, then about how it is supposed to be out today…
both of which are not all that true. no gold or platimun trophies and maybe 15 or of them to boot… not big or worth much at first glance.
if a disc game would have had a release date of today… it would be in stores… not backed up in the store room…
in the consumer world a new day starts when stores open… why is out virtual store not updated…

Hi Deborah! I’m from Brazil and i’ll definately buy this game tonight. I played the demo and besides the original ideas, the art is exactly what I like.
I hope you guys from SCEA will keep releasing original games like Eden on PSN. We need this. The market is full of franchises (sequences and more sequences). We need something different. Eden, Monsters, PAIN, Last Guy… for me, Sony is one of the best softhouses of this gen (if not the best one).
