Paradise City Choppers, Burnout’s Bikes

It’s the big one.

A huge week here at Criterion Games. We’re just adding the finishing touches to the Burnout Paradise Bikes Pack and wanted to reveal a little about what’s coming.

Bike_social copy

For the first time ever in a Burnout game, you’ll be able to ride motorcycles.

It’s a huge step for us here on the Burnout team, but this year’s all about changing Burnout in a BIG way through continued support. In July, we brought you our Cagney Feature Pack and introduced 3 awesome online game modes, two great cars, a live news page and calendar, 70 all-new timed multi-part challenges, a complete overhaul of our Online Racing System and a stack of other major improvements. In early September, we’re breaking out the big guns.

Here’s what Burnout Paradise players can look forward to, when they get the FREE Burnout Paradise Bikes Pack next month. (This is the pack formerly know by the codename “Davis”.)

We’ve got two rides ready to go – Day 1. Just head for your nearest junkyard in Paradise City to pick up the FV1100 street bike and the stunning Japanese Firehawk racing bike. That’ll do for a start, but there’s more in store once you’ve played a little way through the bike-specific gameplay. We’ll bring you more on these vehicles in a future post.

From the second we added the first prototype bike, we wanted to cruise the streets of Paradise City at night. So, in addition to the bikes, we’re adding night to the game. You’ll see day cycle through to night and see the city change with it. Paradise City takes on a life of its own once the rush hour traffic thins out!

Burnout: Bike at night

During the day, you can play a variation of our Burning Routes challenges. Beat the target times on specific routes to complete “Burning Rides”. The big change here is that these routes feature multiple checkpoints – they’ll take you all over the city. At night, complete a different set of routes – the “Midnight Rides”.

If you’re used to seeing Paradise City swathed in blazing sunshine, you’re in for a surprise. We’ve also introduced a dynamic weather system to change the feel of the city – another Burnout first.

Burnout: Bike in weather

And that’s not all.

We’ve created 70 challenges specially for bikes. 35 of these are timed, multi-part challenges – the kind you’ll have experienced if you’ve been playing last month’s FREE software update codenamed Cagney.

We said we’d support Burnout fans 100% this year. We’re passionate about doing just that. The most radical changes to Burnout since we began the series are coming this year. Support for a game through DLC has never been this good. For more detail, hit www.criteriongames.com and for a great look at how we’re working check us out on Crash TV – our video podcast.

Burnout Paradise. Always changing.

  • and…how can these updates not get straight 5/5 scores? >.<

  • I just wanted to say as a life long gamer since 1980 you guys have just set a trend!!!!! Your continued support of this product is absolutely amazing! I hope all game developers take notice and take note. I will buy any product like this and spend $70 or even a $80 as long as they continue to expand the game threw patches like you guys. It was well worth my money and it’s one of the best games on the PS3 with tremendous value one word Outstanding!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Whoa, to me this update is going to be better, I’m not much of an online gamer so the more stuff is heading for the off-line mode the better :-) The extra events are they included in the next patch, or will that follow later in a future patch?

  • I rented this game last week and just purchased it yesterday. Any game that my wife loves as much as I do is a must have.

Bravo Cit., I can’t wait to fly down the streets of Paradise at night.

  • Hey, how do the bodies react when you crash? and also, did you add people to the cars, or do they still drive themselves?

  • The bikes, night and even changes in the weather are really turning up the notch of this game.

But what i think will have as big of a effect on this great game are the Trophies.

Can you give us any update on when we can expect to see these?

  • Gilford Rocks! Burnout Team has outdone themselves. Bikes are FREE, I am wondering what will you charge for? I think you cannot charge for the island, that will split the audience.I think you should charge for bikes.

You may try to offset cost by thinking that more people will buy the game, which they will.Do the numbers spike after every download pack?

  • You guys just got on my radar screen in a big way. I’m going to relax my anti-EA bias and pick up this game now. What incredible support.

I’ll be on the lookout for your future titles too.

  • I LOVE that you guys give precedence to the PS3, For this Criterion will Always get my money Day 1, and the fact that these updates are FREE is pretty mind blowing. Keep up the good work.

  • It’s funny. I hate EA for their “push it out, forget about it” (ie: Hellgate London) but you guys really show that it’s the guys under the big guy that make the difference.

  • this is what like a developer that’s for the gamers this update looks banging and it makes the replay value of the game go up. keep em coming

  • WTH is with that FOG?! (In a good way)

    LOOKS AWESOME, can’t wait!

  • These updates are fabulous. This game is awesome, but I do have one request: a retry function on a failed event. Once you get close to getting your Elite license, driving around to the “nearest event to beat” gets really frustrating. Maybe after you unlock your A license or something, a “Retry Event button” can be unlocked? Just a thought.

  • how much do u guys like working o the ps3?also moving forward would u guys think about making a ps3 only game?i would love to see what u guys would be able to do with a game that take uses blu ray fully!

  • I’d just like to say that in watching all the things that Criterion has done to follow through on their promises, that I am highly impressed. Initially, I was very disappointed in this new iteration of the series simply because of the fact that the best part of the game was left out: Crash Mode. I would still love to see this feature re-introduced to the series, even if it were via an option to set up a private game with your friends. All in all though, I’m still impressed. The updates and features being introduced have been enough to actually make me consider buying it now.

  • I have to say, you guys are awesome! Thanks for the great updates!

  • Hope all developers learn from you and support their games this much in the future!!

  • Amazing. I love the free support for the game. With a PC gaming background, I grew up used to this support. In the console world, this level of support seems rare.

So I don’t own this game yet, but one of the things I noticed when I played was that there wasn’t anyone driving the cars — now that there are bikers on these bikes, will there be drivers in the cars too? :)

  • You guys are making other dev studios look bad. Keep up the tremendously great work, I haven’t steadily played a game this long after launch since SOCOM II, let’s hope other devs sit up and take note.

If you don’t own this game already, get your butt out there and grab a copy, it rocks.

  • I wish it was coming out sooner though. Cagney was great and all but didn’t hold my attention for too long.

Regardless this is hands down one of my favorite games.

  • AWESOME! Thanks for the update Jeremy! I just ordered Burnout Paradise(PS3) from Amazon.com they lowered the price of it to $29.99! and I had a $5.00 gift card so I got it for 24.99!

I just checked Amazon.com they lowered the price yet again to $28.68!

  • Great news and thanks for keeping us posted.
I’m playing on my 360 but I can’t wait for the updates. Unfortunetly I still can’t get my hands on the last update due to my silver membership. I should have got this for my PS3.

  • Another awesome free update from you guys at Criterion. Thanks for your continued support of us fans. Can’t wait to hear what you guys will announce in the future.

  • I’m glad there are devs out there that still care about the gamer and still support a game with FREE releases so long after release. These are the kind of games the deserve to be purchased by the consumer (as I have done.)

  • Oh man. This is amazing. This is how you get closer to your fans right here. Not only do you guys make amazing stuff, you put it out for free!

And not only that, but you guys stick around to see how we like it. This is a good change for you guys.

  • Ok you’ve sold it to me. I’m buying this game when I get out of work.

  • Ok you’ve sold me… I’m buying the game when I get out of work.

  • Thanks you guys and gals never once let me down thanks for the continued support of this awsome game cant wait to see those other updates that are stopping the trophies from coming they must be preety awsome cant wait so keep us updated here on the blog

  • Any update on when we’ll be getting trophies or how far you’re almost done?

PS. I just re-bought your game :D thanks for continuing to support it.

  • So by “next month” you mean this will come out in September? I thought this was a mid-August release (not complaining, just asking for a little clarification). Also, can you give us an update on when to expect trophies?

Thanks again for the amazing support you’re giving this game, it gets more playtime than any other title in my collection. Can’t wait to hear more about the updates.

  • Thank you for the Long Support From Burnout Team :D

  • I have always wanted this game, but really never wanted to spend more money, but after seening and hearing about all of the continuous updates that have come out and that are going to come out, I am definatly going to buy this game now no matter how much it costs me(within reason).

Keep up the awesomeness to come!!!

  • It’s only 30 bucks nowdays. ^^

  • Criterion’s incredible support for Burnout Paradise has all but guaranteed that I’ll be a repeat customer on their future titles. Stellar job, guys–you’ve certainly set the benchmark for the way that all publishers & developers should handle their $60+ software.

    Well done!

  • Great update!

  • Just a couple questions for Ya;

Did you fix the HUD for the game?

Can you fix the HUD so that the friends list can be optional?

This is the ONLY REASON why I have not played since a month after this (the full game) was originally released.

The Burnout series is my favorite but until you fix the HUD, sadly I will not be playing it. If you go through your servers for all your games (past Burnouts on ps2 and psp) you will realize that I have them all and have completed all 100%. Please fix the Heads Up Display so that we the players can either customize it or just make it more transparent.

Then I will go out and Buy it.

  • Awesome. I wish more developers would give support to games and gamers like you guys do. Any hints on when the trophies come around?

  • Well I have another “burning” question. Once you guys have released all the patches, will you be working on a new Burnout game for the PS3 (and most likely 360)?

    Grz,

  • You guys are doing SPECTACULAR work. Far and away the best support I have ever seen for a video game. Where can I donate?!

  • wow, I give huge props to criterion, you guys are awesome, I’m definitely going to purchase this jewel come this weekend. Thanks for showing some sweet PS3 love.

  • Criterion is a game company others should look up too. Not only did they make one of the coolsest games out there, they totally support the future of the product and the happiness of their costumers! Seriously, awesome job! i can’t wait to see what’s coming in the future from you guys!

  • Is the night and day cycle clock will be adjustable? Also, I would like to know if the weather+night and day cycle will be avalible also when you play with cars.

    Thank you.

  • i dont even play burnout that much.
    since yall support the ps3
    ill buy the update

  • I’m so impressed with these updates to Burnout Paradise. Just bought the game for PS3 last week though I’ve owned the 360 version for quite some time. It’s great to see a company behind one of their games like this, and I’m sure I’m not the only one looking forward to future titles from Criterion after seeing what they’ve done here so far.

  • Awesome post release support on this game. I wish more developers (and publishers) followed your lead and understood the benefit of FREE DLC to extend the life of a game. Both consumers and publishers benefit when a game remains viable more than 2-3 months after it hits the shelves and the best way to do that is with good free DLC.

  • Great update! But I have a question about something that irks me while playing the game.

Honestly, how hard would it be to add a restart race feature? Driving all the way back to the race you lost is extremely tedious. It’s my only complaint about this excellent game.

  • Such an awesome update, and I can’t wait to get it. Paradise never looked so good. :D

    Ps. Trophies??

  • LovesCriterion114

This is the ONLY game I’ve bought and will buy again from EA after I purchased Orange Box. Orange Box has such terrible issues and they refuse to fix the problems. One problem being not able to connect to online servers when I have 42 friends or more. I don’t understand this!!!! WHAT THE HECK does the amount of friends have to do with me connecting online?!?!?!? The only reason I bought Burnout was because not only have I been a fan from the beginning, but ‘Game changing content’ Criterion has been producing amazes me. I love it. It’s not DLC it’s GCC and I think it’s fantastic what Criterion is doing. If you guys were not doing GCC I would not of bought this game. Sorry, I’m just sick of the horrible port EA gave us of Orange Box and their refusal to fix the darn game and I refuse to buy anything from them EVER again. Don’t want new maps just fix the ISSUES!!!

Criterion, You guys are awesome. Keep up the great work. I HOPE others will follow suite.

  • Just picked up the game yesterday, and I’m really enjoying it. Can’t wait to try some bikes on it.

  • criterion is the best developer i’ve seen in years… you are the ONLY developer who continues to support your game after launch. you guys are adding and been added bikes, planes, day-cycle, dynamic weather change, soon to be trophies, rumble, custom soundtracks, new online modes, two new vehicles, new city, ect… this is like burnout is evolving in front of me!!! my big thank you to all of you @ criterion. I LOVE BURNOUT WITH A PASSION!!! this IS the best ps3 game you can buy, its all worth you $60 people trust me.
