Today we’re announcing the expansion of our closed beta test for PlayStation Home to begin at the end of the month.
Later today, the PLAYSTATION Store will be updated with a PlayStation Home theme. By downloading the theme, users are submitting an application to join the PlayStation Home Beta test community. We will be using a variety of criteria including activity on the PLAYSTATION Network to determine eligibility for the Beta community. Existing beta testers have automatically qualified to be part of the expanded beta.
We’re really excited about this milestone and want our most loyal fans to be a part of the evolution of PlayStation Home.
In Europe, SCEE is also beginning their expanded closed beta, directly targeting consumers who have been most active on PLAYSTATION Network and PLAYSTATION Store. SCEE will be in email contact with their PSN audience very shortly.
Let us know what you think.

I am probably one of many who want this…i hope i can be a part of it, but if not i have waited this long to get Home I can wait till its ready for public use…either way i like my PS3 regardless of what all of those other “fanboys” saying Home will make or break the system. I call BS…the PS2 and any other console prior to the “next gen” consoles had way less than this and we loved them…PS3 (imho) has come a long way in a short time to compete with Xbox 360…the only thing i see me going back to my 360 i cant get here is the ability to watch Instant Viewing through Netflix on my TV since i wont have to buy one of those $100 boxes from Netflix to do it and Gears of War 2…other than that really nothing else.

I’m not sure how many readers of the blog would be willing to contribute feedback. However, given that I do Q/A for a living, I reckon this would be the best *job* I ever had.

Wow, this is great news! I’ve been visiting the Playstation Home messageboard for nearly a year and a half now waiting for Home to come out, and I feel like it’s finally near! I really hope I get in, but if not me, then some of the other guys from the Home board, they’ve been waiting with baited breath as well…
Great news!

OMG….I LOVE SONY!
Ok I have two questions though:
1. Do you have to be 18 or older?
2. Will I get an e-mail if I’m chosen?

Neo-Delta | August 7th, 2008 at 12:07 pm
So we essentially have to buy our way in by getting PSN games? Or is it hours logged on?

I don’t know how active user I am on PSN, but I can tell you guys I have been looking forward to put my hands on Playstation Home since the dawn of its announcement. The is also one of the primary reasons I bought PS3. I will download the theme as soon as it is available.
I have a question, I am going to GC Leipzig, will it be possible to test Playstation Home there? Please reply!

I wonder how much you have to do to be considered “active.”
I certainly play a lot of Eden, I download stuff every week, I’m ranked 281 as a Rock Band vocalist and I own tons of Rock Band DLC and PSN games.
Still, I don’t feel very hard core these days. Thanks to school I haven’t touched Eden since probably Saturday and I only have two trophies.
Are they going to give any consideration to those of us who early adopted the PS3 before it deserved it? You know, those of us that paid an extra 200 bucks, got no duel shock, were promised Home long ago–that sort of thing?
Because I feel those of us who adopted in Generation zero of the PS3 era deserve a little respect to go with our loyalty–PSN activity or not.
If the Network had been setup properly to begin with I’d like to think everyone would be more active.

TheZed | August 7th, 2008 at 12:13 pm
Well, I use the store a lot but don’t play online very often, so I probably won’t get in. But that them will make a great consolation prize!
PS. Beta news is just flying the past 24 hours. Resistance 2, SOCOM, and now Home! Wow.

“Existing beta testers have automatically qualified to be part of the expanded beta.” Just to make sure,is that for HOME or like if I was accepted into Warhawk as a tester that I’m already qualified for HOME?
Please elaborate on the whole PSN eligibility criteria!!! Is that for all your login names or just the ones with the most online time? etc. Sooo many questions!

Nice, any specific time? Also will the beta have enough functions to start games? Last of all, the things we create in the beta, will they carry over to the final version when its released?
How can we send feedback!

OK, second comments for the same article, but it’s HOME!
First: Like somebody else said, this could have been the only stuff released today on the store, and nobody would have complained. Should have kept that for a slow week : )
Two: Hope you’re talking about overall activity, because I’ve been away on vacation for a month and currently suffering heavy withdrawal symptoms. If it’s over the full year, then, my chances are really good.
Three: Yep, you have tell us how and when we will find out if we have been selected. Though I expect everybody to come back here and brag about being choosen.
Four: You know that we will abuse your server again today. Did Jeff took his medication?

Wow sweet update!!! I hope I get in this time. Ya know, I’m in the Gamer Advisory Panel. Will G.A.P. members automatically be invited? I’ve only got 1 PS3 beta and that’s MGO. I got a crap load of PSP ones though.
