Burnout Paradise – coming to PSN

Massive news this week, here on the Burnout team!

Today we’re proud to announce another PlayStation exclusive for Burnout Paradise. This fall, we’ll be making the entire game available for download via the US PLAYSTATION Store. You’ll finally be able to join us in Paradise City without leaving the comfort of your home, and you won’t have to get up to put the disk in!

A big thanks to the folks at Sony for making the future of video games a reality now. We’ll announce a release date soon, but in the meantime, it’ll look something like this:

Mock-up of US Playstation Store with Burnout Paradise on it

The download will be $29.99, but it’s not the disk version of the game we originally released back in January. This is an all-singing, all-dancing version complete with all the free packs so far. Here are some of the highlights. All new game modes, like Online Marked Man and Online Road Rage. Awesome new vehicles, including the Hunter Olympus and Nakamura Rai-jin Turbo. 70 all-new challenges featuring against-the-clock gameplay and leaderboards plus the in-game calendar and news page. Check the details on our website.

And this is just the start. We’re all about supporting Burnout players through online this year.

We want to change the way you think about DLC. We’re bringing you much more than just a couple of cars or a new track – this is the complete transformation of Burnout. That means you’ll see new game modes, new vehicles including motorcycles, day / night gameplay, weather, a huge new island play area, stacks of new challenges and maybe even aircraft!

The next pack from us will be the free Bikes Pack that we outlined in our last post. We promised a little more detail on what to expect. So here it is.

The two bikes available from Day 1 will be the FV1100 street bike and the Nakamura Firehawk V4 racing bike. With bikes, we’re introducing characters for the first time in a Burnout game. Both bikes feature designs for male and female riders. Just make your choice in the Junkyard.

Motorcycles 1

The Nakamura FV1100 is a no nonsense street bike. The sweet 1100CC engine delivers high performance with easy handling making it the most versatile bike in Paradise. The exposed engine doesn’t leave much room for stylish paintwork, but when the engine looks this good, who needs bodywork?

The Nakamura Firehawk V4 is thoroughbred racing bike. It arrives on the streets of Paradise straight from the race track! The Kanji characters on the guys’ version mean “fire”, but we also have a version for our female rider, featuring an all-new Burnout cartoon character.

We’ve got more on bikes from their Japanese creator – Yuta Nakamura – in our next video podcast, and of course our website – www.criteriongames.com

Burnout Paradise. Always changing.

  • This isn’t like GTP5 where you must be online “So I’ve heard” at all times to play is it? Because I want this, been waiting to get this, but was waiting on mgs4 etc…….

  • If this doesn’t go live on the Canadian store as well… … … just you wait. *grabs voodoo doll, turns off lights and lights up candles*

  • “If this doesn’t go live on the Canadian store as well… … … just you wait. *grabs voodoo doll, turns off lights and lights up candles*” Too Funny.. *Cracked Smile*.

  • awesome! was gonna buy the game because of your awesome support but I´ll wait for this since most stores only have used copies now and I know you dont get a penny from those re-sales…

  • Awesome! I was considering buying this game on blu-ray but I think I’ll wait for this download now! Thanks Sony and the Burnout team!

  • Hell yeah! I’m getting this for sure :D Can you give us a guesstimate on file size? I would be really down if you guys pull a Siren (9.1gb)

  • we need New Dashboard for playstation 3

we need New Dashboard for playstation 3

  • I’ll Buy it when you fix the HUD!

  • I have a question.

Will the game be account locked?

  • I cant wait till this comes out, I am so hyped up for it now, I didnt want to buy the blu-ray for some reason.

  • @heika

Your going to get banned, and no we dont. The xmb is an emmy award winning menu, and if you ask me in HD its much nicer than the blades the 360 offers.

  • goodbye, heikal1990…

Jeff wields a +10 BanHammer with +20% fire damage to the undead and copy-pasters.

careful, or he shall smite thee, verily!

    lol

  • Go go go Criterion Games!

Every other game developer should look and learn something from you about game support after release :)

  • @108 109 and 112 first off the ps3 doesn’t really have a dashboard 2nd this isn’t sony this is criterion they cant update the ps3 firmware only the game and 99.9% of ps3 owners myself included love the ps3 xmb and its ease of use an content location

  • Guys, I’m running out of hardrive. Then again, I already have the game so it’s no biggie to me. Just don’t make it mandatory in the future for us to dload games like Siren is (for now). I really liked the game but I’m not throwing down $40 for a game I have to dload and use most of the 20gb left.

  • ok no problem

so you all like the ps3 Dashboard !!!!!

  • The way the announcement is worded, it sounds like the PSN version of the game will have more content than the Blu-Ray version. Is that true? Or will both versions have the exact same content available?

  • You know what?

I’m going to buy the BD version and the PSN version. Not only to support you guys, but because I love having a hard copy (for collections sake) and I love the convenience of not having to swap discs, and accessing the game whenever I like.

I did the same with Warhawk (who also are very supportive with DLC and whatnot) and will most likely do the same with Socom.

    :)

  • Oh yeah, and one more thing… 500GB HDD FTW!!!

  • Enjoy this while you can US. The rest of the world has bandwidth caps that prevents this from being a viable option. Nothing like Paying $1.50/gig on top of the $30.

Its comming to you too. Sony, Microsoft, Apple etc all seem to think and ISP’s around the world are willing distribute entire industries to consumers for Free.

Bandwidth caps are comming stateside sooner then you think. The gaming Movie and Music industries so far are refusing to pay for the bandwidth(like I said they think ISP’s will do it for free), and ISP’s arn’t going to absorb the increased cost of doing business.

The only solution is bandwidth caps and to bill you the customer till you stop buying stuff online and the gaming, Movie and Music industries wake up and start embeding the cost of the bandwidth in the price of the product like they should have done in the first place.

  • Please tell me that for people who own the BR version they will be able to upload the entire game on the PS3 in a future patch

  • @125 “Please tell me that for people who own the BR version they will be able to upload the entire game on the PS3 in a future patch”

What’s the point if you still need the disk in the tray? No way Sony’s going to let you install the game without the need for the disk to be in so you can pawn it off to Gamestop the second its finished installing.

  • EPIC! This is just the start… Hip hip hooray for criterion.

  • @126

How about an RFID chip built into the disc that transmits a signal to a RFID reader hooked up the the USB of the PS3.

Full install allowed and only playable if the disc is ‘sensed’ within a 10 foot radius?

I’d pay for the RFID reader for the convenience of full install without disc in the PS3.

Just thinking on my feat here….

  • Great update, now if I had some PSN Network Cards I could buy Bionic Cammando, Siren, Qore and on and on but I can’t.

  • Maybe when I have children the cards will be available in Canada for them so they don’t have to miss out like I am. LOL

  • If you guys could get Criterion to release an add-on complete version of Burnout Paradise on the PSN, then could you work on getting Namco-Bandai to release a patch that would enable rumble for the ps3 version of Soul Calibur 4? If not, could an explanation be given? Several games have been released before Soul Calibur 4 that have rumble enabled.

  • We <3 Criterion Games

  • Sweet Mother!!!!!!

    Dazam!! ;)

Thanks for the Big News.. Now what im only wanting to know is.. Should I take my Hardcopy and trade it in for money and get the digital copy or should I keep my hardcopy and blow off this digital copy..

I like to know what the full Size of this download LOL :P

I think ill stick with my hardcopy.. but hmm just thinking let me know guys!!!

  • @120

PS3s do not have dashboards! they have XMBs

the other system has a dashboard

oh noes!!! I fed the trolls…. 2 days solitary :(

  • Jeremy,
I know it’s been said a lot lately, but I can’t help to reitterate just once more – you guys at criterion kick ass and are doing amazing work. It’s exciting to see such an awesome and full game like burnout being put through psn – I hope this starts a big chain reaction throughout the community. I plan on buying the download even though I already have the disc. Seriously – so cool! Rock on guys

  • We are a little off topic here but I’m kinda agree with the guy… since day one I needed more from the xmb… and isn’t the navigation because it’s just perfect, everything in front of me, the organization it’s up to you. What I really need is something beyond that and a better user profile, what we have it’s a lot better what we had but doesn’t feel like stylish sony really is… a full profile thing will be better with a lot of info etc.

But like some guy above me said… this is about criterion so let’s stop it here. Now I will rent a movie now because I don’t want to go out to rent something lol (please give us captions)

  • Just wondering if it would be at all possible if we could download burnout for free if we already have the disc version. Or if you could find a way to install burnout on to the ps3 from the disk. I just hate changing disks

  • Hi guys. You mention that a weather system is coming soon, can you please elaborate?

Is there rain, lightning, thunder, fog…what can we expect?

Thanks for the great support guys. It’s much appreciated.

  • Sounds great, i only played the demo when it came out and it was cool. At $29.99 its tempting, just curious about the file size too…

  • @112 heikal1990 | August 14th, 2008 at 5:04 pm

What’s wrong with you boy??? You’re a total lame! PS3 has a bad-a$$ Dash. Are you insane? Maybe you’re just a copy cat!

    “STEP OFF JERK”

  • The Criterion team is epic! Any one who doesn;t have this game needs to get it ASAP

  • Today we have higher buildings and wider highways,but shorter temperaments and narrower points of view;

  • Much love to Criterion Games. They are one of the developers that never forgot where they came from and who help them built their empire.

MUCH LOVE TO YOU CRITERION GAMES! WE REALLY APPRECIATE EVERYTHING YOU DO FOR OUR PLATFORM. HERE’S TO MUCH SUCCESS TO YOU GUYS IN THE FUTURE!

  • As much as we love seeing ya go this direction Criterion, I must disagree that this is not the way all games should go.

Go ahead and use that Blu-Ray capacity. Go nuts. Its there because we cant download files so big. Go ahead and use it. Don’t be shy.

  • You guys at Criterion are truly amazing. If you continue to support your future titles the way you are continuing to support this one, I will buy every game you ever put out.

    Respect.

  • still no life with plsn
if sony don’t send this out this month i will be very upset

  • THANKS!! YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME!! Ive been playing burnout since the original (still every here and there for kicks) and PARADISE is by far my favorite racing game to date. You can easily charge for every single update you have but decided not to and for that you now have a customer FOR LIFE!! THX AGAIN!

  • Wow, this is pretty damn awesome. I wonder how much space it’ll take up. Might still just pick up the disc version just to conserve space.

  • Wow this is awesome. Burnout isn’t my type of game, but seeing developers support their customers, and pushing for the future of gaming, makes me want to support said developer no matter what!

You might just have a new fan and customer in me. Keep up the great work!

  • Sweet! Can’t wait! I sold the disc version when I was done playing it. But now that it’s going onto the PS Store I’ll get it again! Especially cause Criterion is adding trophies! :D

PS: I know this is off topic, but one of my friends just got into the Home Beta! He does a lot of writing on the Official PlayStation forums. Does that increase your chances in getting into the Beta? Or is it at random?

  • Wow, if this isn’t the deal of the year, I don’t know what is. You guys just sold an online copy of this game. Ken Kutaragi’s dreams of downloading full games online for the PS3 is slowly coming to fruition.

  • ok how about adding some more old ps1 games like the origenl WORMS!!!!!!!!!!.
need i say more we want WORMS!!!!!!!!!!!!! WORMS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this totally came out of left field! very surprising and im completely impressed. to take a game like this and crunch it into a D/L version is insane. truly next gen. LOL.

i gotta question for you Jeremy. (don’t know if this has already been asked) for the people that download burnout will we be losing anything? ie: resolution, frames per second, etc…

    peace,
    Lh
