The Last Guy, Coming To a City Near You

95 2

Hello, PS.blog readers! At the end of July, we announced the game The Last Guy for North America, and said there would be much more about the game in the coming weeks. Since then, I hope you’ve checked out the trailers that have been released, the special “interview” with the guys in the Himalayas, and the just-posted IGN review.

If you haven’t heard of The Last Guy yet, here’s the run-down. Every stage is a real city, shown from overhead using detailed aerial photography. Basically you make your way through cities, find people hiding in buildings, and lead them to the Escape Zone while avoiding zombies roaming the streets. Use thermography vision to find people hiding in buildings, “dash” to run away quicker, and “huddle” to scrunch up the line to keep the people out of the path of the zombies. The controls are simple, but keeping your line away from the zombies and making it to the Escape Zone without losing anyone is anything but.

We released the demo last week, giving a taste of half of the Asakusa, Tokyo stage, one of the many stages in The Last Guy. I hope you’ve had a chance to check it out. If you’re anything like me, you probably have that song stuck in your head too.

Asakusa
Well, I’m back here on the blog today because I’m here to announce that the full North American release of The Last Guy will be hitting the North American PlayStation Store tomorrow afternoon for $9.99! And you can purchase the game from the PlayStation Store, or from right inside the demo itself. How handy is that?

With the full game, you’ll get to experience the full Asakusa stage from the demo, plus a bunch of other exciting cities from around the world, with 15 stages in all. Of course there’s London and Los Angeles, which we originally mentioned. And in the latest trailer above you can see cities like Washington, D.C., Sydney, Berlin, and Chinatown in Yokohama, Japan. There are lots of other great cities waiting to be saved by you in the full game, plus a bunch of different kinds of zombies and boss zombies for you to outwit and out-maneuver. You’ll definitely have to use the power-ups scattered throughout each stage wisely to make it through each of the 15 stages.

Here are a few cool screenshots from some of the new cities, Berlin and San Francisco.

Berlin San Francisco
So you have until tomorrow afternoon to practice with the demo to perfect your line-leading zombie-avoiding skills, thermography powers, building-encircling technique, and Stamina gauge management. Because the levels in the full game are much more challenging, and even feature online rankings and different ratings for how well you do (like how many VIPs you find and rescue). Who knows, maybe something cool will happen if you get a good “clear” rating on all the levels…

By the way, there will be a couple of cool The Last Guy wallpapers on the store tomorrow as well. Hope you like ’em!

Let me know what you think of the demo, and the full game when it comes out tomorrow. Thanks!

  • Day 1! Not that it matters, but does it have trophies? :D

  • very nice!

  • hell yeah!

  • Huzzah, happy to help people escape my city of SF :)

  • The demo was pretty fun and the online version was interesting to say the least.

Can’t decide if this is a day one buy or not. Might wait to see what sort of other features it may have.

This is good news nonetheless (and thankfully is NEW news, I’ve needed a new story on this blog to distract me from working)

  • The demo was fun.

What about trophy support? That might push me over the fence towards buying the game.

  • I found the demo a lot more fun than the Star Wars demo, which has already been deleted from my drive. I found Snake.. err TLG to be a pretty fun game.

  • any Canadian levels?

  • I thought the idea was interesting when I first heard it, but I was skeptical that it could be pulled off well. I was pleasently surprised. I loved the demo. I’ll be buying the full game tomorrow!

  • I thought the demo was fun as hell! Everything from the music to the gameplay to the voiceovers were great. The Last Guy FTW!!!

  • I am definitely going to Get Last Guy.

Is there going to be a feature in-game that’s similar to going to lastguy.jp where you can play the game “in” a website? It would be cool if they had that option in-game as well.

  • Sony,

    We want home info.

For the love of god, please send H.E.L.P. – we only have 3 bottles of water, and a package of ramen noodles left. :) Were running low on supplies, the hardcore Home fans want info. :)

  • I love that music :).

  • Day 1, But any word on Trophies?

  • Hello Josh,

Thanks for the update! I downloaded the demo last week ans I enjoyed it. I will be buying The Last Guy tomorrow. I do have one question. Will there be a trophy patch released sometime in the future for The Last Guy? This game screams trophies :D

  • Good price for a good game!

I saw these “Guys'” design studio, it is wild!

    :P

  • Good news! How can I buy Africa?

  • Doe the Last Guy come with a banner saying “we as developers want sony to put Backward Compatibility for PS2 games back into the PS3 in either hardware or emulator form?” If so I’m all for this game. Otherwise this game isn’t my cup of tea, but hats off to you for an effective use of current technologies.

  • The demo was fun but I think it might get too repetitive for me. I do have to say when the crowd shrieks it’s funny every time.

  • Great game, looking forward to the full version tomorrow. Will there be any DLC for this game posted in the future? I’d love to have some Canadian cities or other places to play!

  • The demo was fun but 9.99 is a little expensive, maybe for 5.99 i’d get it

  • The demo was great but for 9.99 it’s expensive specially since YOU DON’T SUPPORT IN-GAME MUSIC AND THROPHIES!

Can we expect a patch for IN-GAME MUSIC AND THROPHIES?

    PLEASE!

  • Wallpapers as well as the full game…..I feel so spoiled. I downloaded the demo last Thursday and I have been playing it everyday. I love the overview look. I’m very excited about tomorrow so I can get this game and save some citizens, one zombies infested city at a time.

  • Didn’t take long for people to completely deviate from the topic, huh?

  • Great news I was hoping this would hit the stores tomorrow with the demo last week!

Keep up the great work over on the PSN. Last Guy, Fat Princess, and Savage Moon = you guys $30 richer and me much more entertained.

Look forward to hearing about some more great games.

  • Very cool game … My questions have been asked.. (trophies, DLC, etc)

    Thanks!!!

  • Did you check out THE LAST GUY review from IGN? They gave it a 9.0/10!

  • Its a great game and I will be buying when my I get my check in the bank. Even if it does not have trophy or music support like all the other games it will be fun to out run those zombies to get back to the safezone.

  • Awesome stuff and I can’t wait to get the full version. Now, when are we going to get Trophies?

  • I’ll buy it for sure..

    Life with Playstation?

    ?

    ?

    ?

  • Awesome, I loved the demo! :D

  • I also hope for trophies support. These games are more my type of games than all those shooter stuff (I suck at Warhawk for instance).

  • Ill be buying this game as well, however I remember reading somewhere, cant remember exactly where in an interview with one of the creators or producers that it wont be supporting trophies. I could be wrong but am fairly certain of this. Please Please let me be wrong. Any plans for future patches and updates bringing more cities?? Maybe some create your own cities tools??

  • Trophies will support, that gives considerable value to the game

  • I played Demo and I got a weird feeling like I played this before. Then it hit me back in 1983 or some thing close to that date. I could remeber A maze with A Yellow guy as the hero. I was playing a suped up version of PAC-MAN. But I love pac-man first game I ever owned.

  • I know its off topic but does anyone know where the demo is for nhl09?

  • bleh….the demo wasnt that great….great concept, though

  • do want.

  • Broken record time: Will this have Trophies eventually.

Another question, with this game have DLC later? Adding new cities, or power ups, or challenges. This is a game that could seriously continue to expand and be awesome for a really long time! I put an extra $10 on my Wallet yesterday for The Last Guy to go with the $8 for the Warhawk expansion!

  • But I have no monies to throw at you!!!

  • The demo was pretty fun. Simple concept but fun nonetheless.

  • i haven’t tried the demo yet but i will so no real opinion this month had been too crowned for psn release spread them out more. i would say make 2 psn release monthly instead of 4.

  • Cool hmmm the demo was pretty cool but confusing at first, wasn’t sure what the goal was and kept getting killed by things i couldn’t see but it was pretty fun once i got used to the controls… Hmmm so this seems exciting I guess :P

  • @36: MonkeyDaddy

NHL 2K9 demo from 2K Sport was available at the PS Store, I haven’t seen one from EA yet.

  • Well, I played the demo last Thursday and was intruiged, but still undecided. The IGN review that was posted today, however, has won me over. That is not an easy score to coax out of those guys, so it must be a really good game for the money.

I’ll be picking this up tomorrow for sure.

  • You know SONY need to get on the case and ask developers to starts supporting Trophies … its pathetic that the games that are published by SONY are not even coming with trophies.

  • To everyone asking about trophies:

I seriously doubt they are included. If they were Josh would have beaten it into your heads in all his blog posts by now. That said, wether or not a game has trophies should not be the only reason you buy it or not.

If you want trophies that bad, go play Warhawk. (They’re hard as hell too so they should keep you busy for a while)

  • Day 1 purchase for me. I am so happy that a quirky game like this exists in an era full of FPS’s.

Also, IGN gave it a 9/10 – same as Castle Crashers. I bet the team is happy about that.

  • I have to say, this game is so amazing, the aerial view brings you back to the first GTA, the different effects and the interaction w/ the people of the world its so funny, I played the demo downloaded it day 1…. its awesome.

  • I liked the demo, but I’m not sure when I’ll get it.
If it had trophies I definitely would asap.
