PlayStation Around the Web: What We Read

Posted by Jeff Rubenstein // Social Media Manager

We linked to it earlier this week (and below), but I wanted to call out special attention to Platform Nation’s charity gaming marathon – Playapalooza ‘08. The event supports Child’s Play Charity, which collects and distributes video games (and the A/V equipment needed to play them) to hospitals nationwide. We here at SCEA are supporting the cause with game donations, and you should at least take a look at the cause and see if you’d like to contribute as well.

OK, back to the matter at hand – here are the stories we read this week. Did we miss anything?

Will “The Last Guy” be a game made for each country? Such as Canada getting its own area?

Gunwing  |  August 10th, 2008 at 12:34 pm

How is it my posts on the Forums about Final Fantasy 13 being exclisve on the PSP (IE not comeing to the DS in any forme at all) Or my post about No Gravity, and the like get no replys for sweetness but if every body else posts it with no link for confermation they get endless praise?

Thats totaly backwards! I would never trust anybody with info and no source to back it up.

Why not add in an extra trophy for a retail game if you participated in beta for the game?

Great week and that Onion Article made my day. WHe n are we gonna get to see the idiot make his post? Do you know where he plans to do it? (i doubt) anyhoo I had one thing on my mind all last weekJeff. I was thinking that is some future update would it be possible for them to make it so that when your ps3 is in standby mode that the usb ports would remain on so that I can charge my Dual Shock 3 without having to have the ps3 on. My Console is not to close so that I could charge while playing so I do it while I sleep or am at work. This would be a great added bonus to the already many wonderful features on the PS3. Oh when’s Life coming out? That is all.

AdversaryofGod  |  August 10th, 2008 at 3:09 pm

Hey Jeff… Why did you not put all those news under the PlayStation Conversation space on the right this week?

The last one that was posted for the whole week was:
Naughty Dog using only ‘30 or 40 percent’ of the PS3’s power – Destructoid
Posted 08.05.08 03:28 PM

The 11 after that were missing.
I knew something was strange…

I look foward everyday to read the news on the PlayStation Blog (^_^)

It’s pretty lame that xbox users get N+ on XBLA but we’re stuck with a psp port. Definitely not picking this up. I had read articles in like February saying Elefunk and N+ were on their way to PSN and I was excited for both. I bought Elefunk, and have been waiting months for N+. I’m definitely not paying 20 bucks for a flash game I can play online for free, especially when I can’t play it on my PS3.

Any word on whether SOCOM features Mouse/Keyboard support? (I don’t mean for chatting)

24

moe24  |  August 10th, 2008 at 4:16 pm

@ Jeff
For the home beta application are you checking our activity on the psn before or after we download the application?

Will Socom come packed with the the bluetooth we were shown last month or is there a new one. Also will there be proper voice communication inside of the online game. Why i ask is because MGSO still has problems utilizing the online voice chat feature clearly and there is a lack of control over muting, COD4 and Warhawk has similar problems. It seems that the PS3 cannot implement voice chat properly like the xbox360 which doesn’t even need that feature to be built into each game since it is separate feature for the system. I hope Socom will be the defining game for proper voice chat and other games coming after it follows.

How about having some posts from the new littlebigplanet site? I know that there are only three so far, but that’s bound to change as we get closer to launch.

“Naughty Dog using only ‘30 or 40 percent’ of the PS3’s power – Destructoid”…

Yeah…knew that for a long time now…every time I comes across these post it always looks like old news…

This thread doesn’t really serve any good purpose.

How about you guys do something more creative…

That bioshock preview was pretty interesting but I think for the first time I play it it’s not going to be on survival mode where “Every Bullet Counts” lol

36

Andronicus  |  August 10th, 2008 at 7:33 pm

would have been nice to see N+ on psn for 9.99

37

Kenshin001  |  August 10th, 2008 at 8:00 pm

I really don’t understand Sony’s thinking. Both Patapon and N+ get a PSP release but I would have thought these games would be perfect for a PSN release. Surely someone at Sony considered this. It is this sort of content that PS3 owners have been crying out for. Is there any particular reason they are not released on the PS3?

Oh and can somebody from Sony kindly let customers know why PSN cards are not freely available? You know, for those people without credit cards or living in a region with no PSN store or those who have imported games and want to purchase DLC.

perrandy  |  August 10th, 2008 at 8:09 pm

i just wish they would update the ps3 browser.as of now, i can’t even view the kotaku comments anymore :(

its just a shame that a 600 $$ machine has such a poor in-built web browser!

if not updated soon its gonna take to the point that we are going to have the browser just as a decoration tool in the ps3! LOL

as for the folks asking about life with playstation.don’t bother because they aren’t going to answer us until its ready to come out

Here’s a link for an interview of John Carmack where he compares the consoles. I think he gives a reasonable comparison, but I bet the authors on the blog don’t want to hear it and certainly don’t want to respond to it.

So many pixeljunk eden articles. I wrote one too: http://blackflowermusic.com/blog/?p=83

@46 FeaturePreacher
What exactly do they dont want to respond?

49

FeaturePreacher  |  August 11th, 2008 at 9:02 am

@48
Perhaps comments Carmack made about the comparison between RSX and 360’s gpu and Sony’s lower concern for developers’ concerns about hardware.

50

FeaturePreacher  |  August 11th, 2008 at 9:11 am

@48
I basically just want some signs that there’s going to be a great shift in thought at Sony, a shift away from believing they can do whatever they want to believing that they must make hardware that makes the developers job easier and make hardware that shrinks development time. Also I hope there will be a shift towards hardware design that places versatility of use as the top priority. I hope the first signs of this will be seen in the psp2.
