Resistance 2 Collector’s Edition revealed plus new Public Beta info

James Stevenson's Avatar + Posted by James Stevenson on Sep 02, 2008 // Community Lead, Insomniac Games

Hey everyone, we’re very happy to share some news today about our upcoming collector’s edition version of Resistance 2, as well as shed some light on the long-anticipated Public Beta program.

R2 CE

First up: the collector’s edition – everyone at Insomniac and Sony is excited to be bringing this special edition of the game to participating retailers. You voted on the cover for the game disc inside the box, but what else will you get inside?

R2 CE

  • Copy of Resistance 2 with special edition cover artwork selected by the fans
  • An exclusive Chimeran Hybrid action figure with Bullseye, created by DC Unlimited
  • A double-sided hard-cover Resistance 2 art book covering war-torn America from two unique perspectives
  • Exclusive in-game HVAP Wraith multiplayer weapon skin

The collector’s edition also contains a bonus DVD that includes:

  • Exclusive behind the scenes video, “America Forever Lost”, chronicling the making of Resistance 2
  • Digital copy of Issue #0 of the Resistance comic book series published by Wildstorm.
  • A preview into the upcoming Resistance novel, “Resistance: The Gathering Storm” by science fiction author William Dietz.
  • “Shattered History” Resistance timeline movie– providing a story overview from the earliest days of the Chimera invasion to the beginning of Resistance 2.

It makes up what we think is a pretty cool package for fans of Resistance, and it will be available for $79.99. It is a limited release though, so I highly recommend you pre-order! This brings me to another point: the Public Beta.

We are excited to announce the Public Beta will begin in early October, and premier access to the beta can be obtained in North America by pre-ordering the game from a GameStop retail store or online at www.gamestop.com. In addition, Qore annual subscribers will receive premier access to the beta.

Now if you’d like to apply for the open access period of the public beta, you can visit http://beta.myresistance.net/apply. Folks that have purchased Qore Episode 3 will be given the beta during the open access period as well.

I know many of our friends outside of North America read this blog. Don’t worry! The plans for the Public Beta will be communicated on a more local level, but will generally involve pre-order and/or application programs.

That’s a lot of info for one blog post, and if you have questions, you can put them in the thread below and Bryan Intihar and I will be around to answer. Looking forward to fragging — I mean seeing — you online in October!

Really nice Collectors Edition you guys put together for Resistance 2 and also at an excellent price point. It truly is a steal for fans of the game.

Just one question though. Will the Collectors Edition be avaliable at retailers in Canada or is this only for the U.S.? Thanks.

Not 100% on that due to the Canadian packaging requirements, etc. I believe it should be available via Gamestop, but you should check with your local store.

Premiere Beta Access allows you into the public beta on Day 1. This is given to folks who pre-order the game at Gamestop, or are a Qore Subscriber.

Argentina (South America) should be linked with SCEA and not SCEE (which is Europe)
Its odd …

Question 1: In the second picture. Is that box art going to be the same as the non-collectors edition?

Question 2: When you say “limited release”, do you have an idea about how limited? Like a number amount?

I have pre-ordered the regular at gamestop a while back and called to upgrade to this one, but they do not have it in thier system yet.

Any news on when we can expect the codes from the pre-order, they don’t have those either?

Packaging looks great, so do the extras. Thanks for the news!

I was really hoping for a BluRay instead of a DVD. They are far more durable. Was this mainly done because of price? I read it was do to time on the first page. Any details about why this decision was made?

So if I pre-order Resistance 2 online, from Gamestop’s website, will they e-mail me a code when the beta is about to start?

Damn you Insomniac…I just upped my Fable 2 preorder the other week to the LE, now I mist up my Resistance 2 preorder to the CE lol + all the other games I’m getting too this holiday.

No Gears 2 LE though ;D (I think that’s for my wallet’s best anywho)

73

+ Fersis on September 2nd, 2008 at 10:59 am said:

@70 PumpkinKingX
That it would add like 10-15 dollars to the edition :D .

74

+ Voozi on September 2nd, 2008 at 11:01 am said:

(Wish there was an edit feature)

But I also have the same question/concern as PumpkinKingX.

Why a bonus DVD and not a Blu-ray disc? Since the MGS4 LE came with a Blu-ray disc that had all those features commentaries and what not.

So yea just wondering as well since woulda been nice to be able to watch everything in HD =D rather then upscaled =P (eww)

I’m in Australia and I’m guessing I’ll have to import the game if I want the collectors edition.

If I import the US version of the game, are there worldwide servers so I can play my friends in Australia who have the local version.

Also if I import can I download any future downloadable content my the Australian PS Store? eg: maps, for it to work with the US version as I’ve heard some downloadable content doesn’t work if you buy it from the PSN Store outside of where it originated?

As far as content, I believe R1\’s map packs worked regardless of region issues.

Quick question. I plan to play the pants off of this game and do everything i can to get that elusive platinum trophy. However the last platinum trophy i got (from uncharted) I saw no increase in my gamer level as if there was no XP attached to the platinum. Is the platinum trophy more of just a status of 100% completion or is there actual XP attached to it just like the other trophies?? I know its a little off-topic but I have never seen this question asked.

I got to say you guys at Insomniac I really dislike you. Why you make me guy and have to buy the collecters version of R2. Just to let you know I really do not dislike you to tell you the truth you guys are the best. I love the look of the action figure.

So much for that price I would have thought for all you would get would be ten dollars more. Man this holiday season I will be brock. I just picked up Disgaea 3 and later on am going to get Viva Pinata 2. Then next month I am picking up my collecters version of Fable 2 then Gears 2 this too, LBP, collectors version of Fallout 3, Banjo-Kazooie & Valkyria Chronicles.

I so love being a gamer but my wallet does not ha ha.

Well Insomniac you guy/gals are great so I can’t wait to play R2.

With all due respect to James Stevenson (reply to comment #4), I get a little sick of the “import it” line.

I went to import something from the US a few days ago – it cost $8 and was very light, yet shipping via USPS was over $30.

With all that’s included in this Collectors Edition (figurine, hardback book etc.), I hate to think what the import costs would be. And that’s before I even consider the risk of being hit with UK import duty.

I see no reason why SCEE would need to worry about localising it anyway. Those in Europe who choose to import are only going to get it in English anyway, so why do SCEE assume they’d need to localise anything? People in Europe who are interested would just be happy to get it without having to pay extortionate shipping costs and import duty.

Can\’t tell you, honestly. And I don\’t mean to be flippant by saying import it, I\’m just offering it as the only alternative.

SCEE makes decisions on how to release titles, localization etc. I can only refer you to them on why they don\’t do collector\’s editions.

I wish you the best Insomniac! I also hope that R2 doesnt get overlooked, because all the games hitting at the same time…

Infact that would be a crime! no other game releasing this fall is giving out all the awesome features you guys have put in R2 (8 player co-op, 60 man battles etc…)

also, Im sad that reviewers compared QFB with ToD(I guess it was inevitable) I would like to say thank you for taking that risk (Im sure I was not the only since its #1 on the top downloads)I enjoy it as much as the others R&C games.
