  • well thanks for the updated date of release.keep up the good work and john hopefully i didnt bug you too much this time around next time i will post less.hope u be back soon.

    • man erico, post as much as you like, really, that\’s what we\’re here for. i appreciate your support and enthusiasm as always.

  • You did overlook my questions (how did you not see them? If you saw my post, you could’ve scrolled up…but I digress), however, others asked them and you kinda answered ’em.

Are there any HD remakes of a past Megaman (and/or X) currently in development on any platform?

I really don’t see how implementing code to assign a trophy is much different than code to assign an achievement. Was the 2.4 devkit not available to the developers when coding started? Surely Bionic Commando: Rearmed was planned and developed before MM9 (in other words, the devs should have forseen a demand for trophies, especially when 360 owners will have achievements).

It sucks in a big way that I pretty much have to choose between getting the version with in-game music & achievements, vs the version that has a d-pad that works right.

Why do Playstation 3 owners always get the shaft? Most of us were big PS2 supporters, and represent the largest base of adopters, yet almost every PS3 game gets forgotten by devs while it’s 360 counterpart receives updates (frequently), sometimes exclusive DLC, and enjoy features that are possible for PS3, but not given (custom soundtrack & trophy support).

Sony may have been late to the party with 2.4, but so many devs (including Capcom on many titles) have no desire to implement the features on not only older and recent titles, but even newer titles (BCR late, 1942 iffy, and MM9 no – WTF?).

Sorry for the rant (guess I still managed to digress :P), but I feel my complaint is a valid one, and I hope you can at least relay my feelings to someone who may want to do something about it.

    • I can\’t really comment on any game that hasn\’t been announced. Even hinting gets me in trouble. ;)

The specs for trophy support was introduced too late into the development cycle for it to be implemented. Soon, devs will be required to have trophy support for all games in development, so be patient.

  • You’d think that John, but SCEE has a track record of EPIC FAIL :P Glad to know RE5 preorder goodies are in the works :)

Just for your kindness, I’ll purchase MegaMan 9….I was going to anyway, but that’s besides the point. Looking forward to it, there have been so many terrific PSN games lately, it’ll be nice to have some old school action to go along with my other titles.

Have a good day (night?) John, don’t let the kid(s) around here distract you from the fact that you’re pushing out a great product.

  • I wish this was coming out same time as wii but I know it can’t because psn updates are on thursday, hopefully no nintendo fanboys come to the ps blog and ruin the epic story for us :P

  • Serously, why do people like madman obsess so much about trophies/achievements? I just don’t understand it. How could such a thing possibly be such a dealbreaker?

  • Hey John, add me!!! my psn is Dann7978.

  • Oh and im definately getting wipeout and MM9, next week its gonna be awesome.

  • I appreciate your swift reply; what, do you live here, or something ?:P

As for those who “obsess about trophies”, let me try and explain what makes them so important, to me.

For years, console games have been pretty much “offline only”. In the days of the NES, there were some who got the control deck for extra controllers, but most people did 1-2 players. However, PC games evolved at a different pace, and with a much different idea of how to accomplish “multiplayer gaming”, incorporating other technologies along the way. You would occasionally see online things with consoles (the game subscription genesis had, there were a couple others I can’t recall), but nothing like we have now. Once the Dreamcast hit, online gaming slowly started becoming big in the console realm. The Xbox took it to the next level with having a “gamertag” concept. Now when both the 360 & PS3 launched, they had the “gamertag” concept, but PS3 owners (or more specifically, non-360 owners) haven’t had any sort of achievement tracking.

One of the best parts of the online gaming experience is building your history, and checking out others’. If I join a game with somebody, and I look at their gamertag, I can see what achievements they’ve gotten on a particular game; they could help me with mine, or we could make it a goal to get particular achievements in a co-op game, or something. It helps enrich the experience, though, by helping gamers work together for more common goals, and help put an end to the “I can do this – prove it” arguement. You can also get a good idea for what kind of gamer someone is based off their “gaming record”, and probably find other games you’ll enjoy, etc.

All in all, it doesn’t make the game, but it does enrich it. I think it’s silly that games with their own achievement tracking (COD4, DMC4, etc) don’t receive swift trophy patches.

Not that I’m trying to be [DELETED], or anything. Just expressing my opinion on it :)

  • Cool i added you

  • I’m pretty broke, but it seems that my bank account just might have to take the hit for this one.

  • John do you have information about the release in Europe?

  • day 1 purchase also its coming 2 the psn on sept 25

  • I skimmed through the previous replies for this answer but I don’t think it was asked/answered so sorry if it has.

Is there any plans for exclusive content for either version of the game? I have both the Wii and PS3 and with the announcement that the PS3 version will not support Trophies and that it will release 3 days earlier on Wii, seems like the decision is pretty clear cut there. But exclusive content could still tide me over to one version or the other. Any plans for this? Exclusive DLC perhaps or extra goodies that would for some reason not be possible on the Wii? Hey, some developers have used that excuse before :p

    • All versions will have the same DLC. You\’ll find out exactly what that DLC is on Monday. One of the DLC content is the ability to play Proto Man.

  • Hey John,

Just wanted to say that was a badass post. I am at University now so I am reunited with my PS3 and I have been playing Bionic Commando ReArmed which I have got to say is fantastic.

I would love to see support for trophies in Mega Man 9 as this is one of my favorite game series and I think it would make people play this game as I know Mega Man is hard but pushing people to get trophies in this game would be cool but I understand the constraints at the moment with Bionic Commando which again is looking impressive.

I am not going to [DELETED] as I know what you guys go through when projects don’t go according to the schedule and amount of abuse you get from gamers who don’t know what goes on behind the scenes although I would like to see Mega Man 9 have trophy support, I understand why that maybe possible or not.

Thanks for the heads up and I will download this game on Thursday and WipEout HD!

    • How\’s school going? Although trophy support isn\’t in the plans, I\’ll forward the request on to Takeshita-san and Inafune-san.

  • Regarding the European release, “an announcement should be made on Monday.” sounds like it will be delayed as always. Let’s wait and see.

I have a questions more. I saw the “challenges” list in the IGN video preview.

Are they included in the PSN version?
Are they like off-line custom trophies like in Uncharted?
Or can I check on-line if my friends archieved them like in DMC4?
Does the PSN version will have online leaderboards?

Thank you for answer almost everything John, I love how you manage your posts and comments in the PS Blog. Do you have a Capcom-Unity user account? I want to add you as a friend, and to read your blog if you have one there.

  • Why is my post still awaiting moderation?

  • if there are future DLC for this game, why can’t trophies be patched in the future?

    • They can be, the question is does the team or company have the allocated resources to do it. Again, only if devs got this info sooner.

  • Forgot to ask: There will be a game demo for 25th?

  • I would like to see mega man X (SNES) make an appearance on psn

  • john can i add you too?also is motorgp coming to the ps3 too.

  • If we promisse that everyone here will buy two copies of Megaman 9, will you tell us the release date of SSF2T HD Remix?
Just give us a month… is it October? November? December?
    If that’s not possible give us the year… 2008? 2009? 2020?
    Just give us something!!!

  • thanks for the answer.no is its true that we would never see an exclusive from capcom ever again.

  • by aaa what does that mean john u mean big budget or do you mean games with a establish name?
and if mega man legend 3 was to be made would that be thought of a AAA title?
also john did u said there would be psp love where is it in the usa?

  • I think for the present a Marvel x Capcom 2 = Very High Sales in PSN\XBLA. the truth is, this game is more desired for most people I know than Street Fighter 2 HD.

I dont understand why not this series ( marvel x capcom , x-men x street fighter ) never appear in PSP Capcom classics collections ( i have both already released )

Another great and sadly forgotten Capcom game is Final Fight. I loved play years ago the Sega CD version ( minus the system color limitations ), and hated the sequences in Snes ( FF2 and FF3 ) and the PS2 3D game ( StreetWise ). A faithful port of Arcade version with 3 players online could be magical.

  • Hey! Im a huge Megaman fan so i will buy this one for a 100%.

But i wonder why you didnt make Megaman powered up 2. The first game ruled and Megaman X maverick hunter x was awesome. I mean. Megaman 2 and 3 were the best in your serie ever and the “MEGAMAN:Powered up concept” were awesome and should be nice as an PSN/XBL/Wiiware game. Please make my dreams come through!!

  • Couldn’t you add a trophy patch? I know a japanese PSN store game (Mainichi Issho) added them recently with an update, and it’s free too.

  • $2 for a downloadable character 1 week after launch on a $10 game.

    You’re CRAZY.

    http://kotaku.com/5052765/proto-man-playable-via-dlc#viewcomments

    • Mega Man 9 is patterned after Mega Man 2, with the hard difficulty level and no charge shot and slide. We\’re offering you a downloadable character with those abilities which changes how you play the game. We\’re not offering you an incomplete game (as the base offering is the way it was intended to play) and selling you features at an additional cost. We\’re offering you a choice play the game in a different way with the coolest character in the series.

  • I’m definitely picking it up, although I do have to wonder if this this might set a bad precedent of companies taking retrogames and just making them look “retro.” I know the graphics aren’t what make the game, but I would so much rather see this done in a “Bionic Commando: Rearmed” style than an old-school retro style. I know you will make more remakes and resurrections of old-school titles, and I really hope they don’t all go retro, just for the sake of being retro.

I used to own an NES (and a Colecovision, but you and I went over that a long time ago), and I loved it at the time. The graphics didn’t bother me at the time. But systems and people evolve and I really worry that if this sells well, then we might not see developers taking old franchises to the limit. If there’s a “Megaman 10,” I don’t think I’d pick it up if it was in the same style.

    • Long time no see clupula. What I think you will see is more companies \”try\” to emulate the old school look and gameplay. While it makes sense for some games to get this treatment, expect a whole lot of half arsed attempts.

Mega Man is a labor of love and was given the full development treatment. No half arsed job done here.

  • @227

John would know better than I would, obviously, but I am guessing that it is the licensing with Marvel (or lack thereof) that prevents the Versus games from being on collections.

  • @227

You can thank licensing issues my friend! They don’t have the Marvel license in order to release those games hence Marvel VS Capcom 2 on Xbox and PS2 are in such limited print.

  • It looks like a cool game, but I’m not going to buy it. Ben Judd is right. If Mega Man 9 is successful, we will not see more games like Bionic Commando Rearmed. We will see more low-budget, SD ROM hacks that can run on Wiiware so Capcom can maximize profits and release their downloadable games on all three consoles.

Japan used to be the pinnacle of game development. Increasingly, Japanese game development has become stagnant and cheap, stuck in the past and unwilling to grow with new technology.

The lack of trophy support and the imminent release of WipEout HD (now that’s a downloadable sequel to a classic game I can support) make the decision easier. PS3 and X-Box 360 owners need to vote with their wallets or we are not going to get the kinds of games we want.

    • BCR is already a huge success. If and when MM9 is successfull, what you will see is some games given a retro look and others an HD remix. I think what may happen is that Japan would probably lead the charge in the retro area and America would (and already is) lead the way when it comes to graphic upgrades.

  • This game is going to consist of 100% AWESOME. I grew up with Mega Man on the NES and SNES and will be purchasing this day one.

  • The thought of this released and installed on my PS3 makes me all tingly inside, that or I’m having a stroke..

  • +1 John,

I imagine a FFight remake using something fresh as cellshading graphics for example, 3 co-op online ( never happen in FF )and most important that doesn’t mix 2d elements with 3d ( I hate it when happens )this release could be kick ass!

Another dream remake is Strider, but I know that title dont have many appeal today ( pity ).

And this licensing issues sucks, but I have a certain hope that Marvel wanted to do a game with Capcom again, after the Microsoft MMO fiasco, they can look for old sucessfull partnerships, why not?

  • This would have been perfect for youtube support. All the speedruns!

  • If there was an Megaman X HD remix(1080p sprites), I could see myself paying $15 easily for it, maybe more depending on extras.

    • I don\’t know what Inafune-san has planned next for our Blue Bomber. I think he\’s going to evaluate how 9 does and decide what to do next.

  • I can’t see why people are complaining about 8 bit…

people forget GAMEPLAY IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING.

    Megaman 9 I’ll pay 10 bucks for anyday…

    ANYDAY.

*CLENCHES FIST IN THE AIR SYMBOLIZING 8-BIT JUSTICE*

  • oh and I almost forgot

    +1 ;)

  • so john are u saying all we going to see in the usa are classic collection if so im disappointed.i expected so much more from the company that sold 2.3 million of one game in one region only.

    • No. In the digital space, you\’ll see a combination of updated and remixes of classic games as well as original content (ie. Flock and Age of Booty).

  • I was thinking of “maybe” buying Mega Man 9, but after seeing all the dedicated replies from John, I must say I’m getting a little more pumped up about it. I will end up buying it!

Nice job on the comments John.

  • I heard it before and you mentioned it too that the game devs must start supporting trophies with all games. Do you know when that date is? Like next year on?

  • +1

    Yes please Final Fight HD!

  • no trophies ill pass
but as soon support BCR patch comes
ill buy but until that happens
    good bye

  • Well, I figure the moderation was because I didn’t realise a certain word was censored (apologies). I also tried to make all my comments tactful, and not any sort of “flaming” thing. If I did something that was borderline, again, I apologize, it wasn’t intended.

Despite all my criticism of this game, I’m more than likely going to buy it, still. I want to get the 360 version for achievements, but I want the Playstation version for the d-pad…. decisions, decisions… if it had trophy support, it’d be a no-brainer *hint*

    • Nothing you said was offensive. We can all voice our opinion as long as it\’s tactful. That message was more for other people who have thrown insults my way.

  • o ok that sound good for the digi space but i was talking about the psp.

  • im worry that the psp is dying since 3rd party have seemly stop supporting it in the usa.just let me know if capcom is going to follow suit with the psp that most 3rd party have?
well i just finsh my paper for collage and im going to go to sleep will check back to see if u reply.

  • im gonna buy it when it comes out.

I gotta ask, will dead rising ever come to the ps3? (please answer that)

  • 8-bit Megaman = You have my, er… however much this’ll cost in Pound Sterling! :)

  • My God, I’m mostly impressed that John answered almost every single question.

I’m on the edge with this, I want it, but I have my NES hooked up and really wanted it on cartridge. Any chance of a limited edition NES run? :P

    • There were too many legal and licensing issues to make that happen. Replying to my Capcom-Unity.com blog gives you an opportunity to be one of the lucky 200.
