PSN Cards now available at Blockbuster

Posted by Jeff Rubenstein // Social Media Manager

Oh, and because my wording might’ve been a bit confusing (we didn’t *practice* this, we just walked in!), you will of course be able to purchase WipEout HD normally via the PLAYSTATION Store. Now, there’s another option as well.

I’m nowhere near a blockbuster (or California for that matter.) Will these cards be available in the upstate New York area any time soon? No 7-11 but we have a Rite-Aid!

Just got a $20 card from blockbuster today for $21. I had to pay sales tax for it. I thought the card was like a gift card and you don’t need to pay tax, but that’s not the case apparently. Also sucks that I have to pay tax on games from the psn as well.

@ 196 and 192

Its not that we are complaining, nor is it hard to understand. People just want to make sure that they are not being charged tax twice, and want to know if they are going to be charged tax at all on the PSN. How much would this suck if it were you, where you go to the store (where generally a 25 dollar gift card is $25, straight up) and they charge you 6-8% tax on a $20 dollar card, making it almost $22. Then when you go to buy something on the PSN for $19.99, you get taxed again, making the cost around the same $22 dollar mark. You end up paying almost $25 bucks for a fracking $20 dollar game. THAT is wrong, IMHO. Tax, once, okay. Twice? Not a chance.

E-transactions should not be charged tax, no matter what, if you ask me. But, if tax is charged, it should be consistant with the local/state sales tax. I live in Montana, with no sales tax, yet I get taxed on the PSN. WHY? THAT is an inconsistency that sucks for many people and I, for one, wonder why its there.

I am just thankful that I have a credit card and dont need these cards. But it really sucks for those who dont; whether they just cant get one, or arent old enough to have a credit card. Its not a great system and people just want to be prepared when they go to buy something.

Some might not care that they are going to pay the extra taxes, but knowing before buying is the way to go. Otherwise they will need to march right back to Blockbuster to get another card when they find out they dont have enough because of PSN tax.

I noticed a lot of Canadians on here asking when we can expect to see these cards north of the border and each time they were ignored.

This is hardly surprising. I mean there are only 34 million of us. Why should Sony give a **** right?

Thanks guys.

This isn’t true for us Canadians ;_;

They haven’t given anything of the sort for us over here in Canada.

Hope this isn’t like that for long..:(

The $20 & $50 PSN cards, aren’t “straight-up” gift cards. Just like how PlayStation’s competitors arbitrary point cards are taxable, the PSN cards are taxable as well.

Because The PSN cards are designated with a specific monetary value, it is going to lead people to assume that it isn’t taxable, including Mr. Rubenstein and the Blockbuster employee he contacted on the issue. It specifically states on the back of the card: “Any applicable taxes must be paid separately and are not included”. That disclaimer would have not have been there if it weren’t applicable.

Just because it’s in certain retail store in the US, doesn’t mean it’s in Canada. W.t.f is up with Sony!?! Why is it taking so long for them to send cards to Canada!?! I hate this we’re always the last ones for everything :(!.

Jeff Rubenstein : They said it’s coming out this date and then that date. Please shine some light on this for us Canadians.
