Attention Canadian Gamers: Try Out PlayStation’s Top Holiday Titles This Weekend

Posted by Kyle Moffatt // Public Relations Specialist, Sony Computer Entertainment Canada

It’s Fall, the leaves are changing, football is back on TV, and the air is getting crisp. That means it’s time for our annual exclusive Canadian preview event! We took over a very cool venue last week to give media and consumers a look at some great 2008 holiday titles for PlayStation Portable and PLAYSTATION 3.

Canadian preview event 2008

Attendees were able to get hands-on time with Resistance 2, MotorStorm Pacific Rift, LittleBigPlanet and many more top SCE games. It was also the first Canadian showing of Resistance: Retribution and Killzone 2. A very special thank you to James Stevenson from Insomniac Games and my fellow SCEA PR counterpart (and blog poster) Brian Keltner for coming up to demo the Resistance titles.

We had great third party support as Ubisoft, EA, Activision, THQ, Bethesda, Namco Bandai, Sega and 2K Games attended. Some of the playable third party games included Guitar Hero IV: World Tour, 007: Quantum of Solace, Rock Band 2, Mirror’s Edge, Call of Duty 5: World at War, Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm, Sonic Unleashed, WWE Raw vs Smackdown 2009, Bioshock, Prince of Persia and Fallout 3.

The best part is, for those of you who couldn’t attend the event and will be in Greater Toronto Area October 17-19, we will also have a big presence at Best Buy’s Gaming Invasion 08. Gamers will have the opportunity once again to get hands-on time with all of our holiday titles before they hit stores.

Canadian preview event 2008

Thanks to everyone who participated and we look forward to having you back next year. Now that the event is over, I’m really looking forward to playing all of these titles!!!

You’re speaking to Canadian gamers and the first thing you mention is football? Wow.. that’s a laugh.

Thanks for the heads up though.

Elsa43  |  October 14th, 2008 at 8:13 am

football??? … was this piece even written by a “real” Canadian? Every Canadian knows it’s HOCKEY season!! (and this from a woman who hates sports!)

(I think you’ve been hanging with those American Sony people too much… the one’s that refuse to recognize Canada as part of “North America” and keep referring to the movie updates to the “PSN store” and not the “U.S. PSN store”… it’s too much trouble for them to add those two letters in and differentiate the United States as being a separate entity within N. America.).

Ah well… it’s nice to see Canada getting some love… well, maybe just “like” from Playstation! :)

Twyst  |  October 14th, 2008 at 8:24 am

:O how did people find out about this event? I am in the GTA, would totally have gone :D

6

Gearfree  |  October 14th, 2008 at 8:29 am

Really though, where did you have to go to find out about this?

Disappointing that this is the first time that most Canadians who read this blog find out about an event like this.

At least there’s the gaming invasion this weekend.

Scodo_Thope  |  October 14th, 2008 at 8:33 am

Chowbacca  |  October 14th, 2008 at 8:41 am

Pretty cool, though we need events all over in Canada and not just Toronto and Vancouver.

11

Daver  |  October 14th, 2008 at 8:44 am

Toronto pfft…. Come to Montreal! lol
Its where some big developers are!

Anyway it looks like it was a nice event

12

stlthriot  |  October 14th, 2008 at 8:45 am

None of these events ever come close to South Dakota, lol.

13

Jeigh  |  October 14th, 2008 at 8:50 am

The PlayStation brand is on FIRE! And you know, this is one of those situations when you don’t want to put it out. :P

@stlthriot (13)
Yeah, well there are a lot of other states that don’t get them either- should they just hold one in every state/county/town? You can be sure Canada isn’t getting one in every area- they may just get one for the entire country, and you don’t hear them complaining (no, wait, you do, but still).

14

MadmanVol2  |  October 14th, 2008 at 8:54 am

Wait so the event has or hasn’t happened?

At first you say its done, but then say its during October 17th to 19th…which is it?

And for the love of god, where is it??

15

.Seiven.  |  October 14th, 2008 at 8:56 am

AHHHH Why no North America love? SOMEBODY COME TO TEXAS TO HOLD A CONVENTION OR EVENT…or just hang out even. Houston gets no love even though we have Pi studios (in the same building I am in right now) they did all of the Rockband ports to PS2 and Wii and Call of duty games as well…GIVE HOUSTON SOME LOVE GAMING INDUSTRY…I AM BEGGING YOU. *tear

Real Gambler  |  October 14th, 2008 at 10:39 am

Well, at least I’m not the only one who:

1- Never heard about this event

2- Also wish those event would sometime show up closer to our place. Enough Toronto, it’s not the only city in Canada. :

28

GGCAN  |  October 14th, 2008 at 10:41 am

Nothing against the US, but we get one event in Canada and some of these people in the US get all miffed about that one event.

You people are getting many events in the US, maybe not in your home town, but many more than us in Canada.

29

ChocoDK  |  October 14th, 2008 at 10:46 am

@4: I couldn’t agree more with your statement.

I was in utter shock when I came onto this blog and saw the word “Canada” since it seems to me that Sony has forgotten Canada *looks at the PSN Movie Store*

I wish I knew about this event since I might’ve gone but seeing that there will be one this weekend I might go downtown and check it out. Nice to finally see that there is a gaming convention like this in Toronto/Canada.

30

randomhero411  |  October 14th, 2008 at 10:46 am

sony loves canada we have the sony performing center in downtown Toronto.. plus everyone on the bus seems to have a psp. The only thing we get screwed over is the video content in the ps store but sony… is not at fault its our stupid laws…. see every movie or tv show has to have a certain amount of canadain content to be shown.

31

Eternity_Viper_Snake  |  October 14th, 2008 at 10:52 am

32

Ghostfather  |  October 14th, 2008 at 11:10 am

It’s great Canada is getting some events but how about somewhere that isn’t Toronto or Vancouver. For example the prairies maybe.

33

TheApprentice  |  October 14th, 2008 at 11:25 am

I’m gonna be in Toronto this weekend :D :D

Will definitely be there…
Should I bring my PSP like for every other event?

34

bigshynepo  |  October 14th, 2008 at 12:31 pm

I would love to attend but Edmonton is so far from T.O. Good looking tho, Sony Canada, keep the promos coming north of the border!

Now, while we’re talking about Canadians,

Where are we getting out PSN movie store?

I know movie licensing and stuff holds things up but XBox Live has theirs and we need to get this going for the PS3 too! However, don’t even think about launching the service without HD downloads.

VaeVictus  |  October 14th, 2008 at 12:33 pm

Football>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Hockey

I’m just saying. Fall = Football season. Hockey season lasts far too long.

39

Stoffinator  |  October 14th, 2008 at 2:56 pm

You guys asking about the other event (in the pics) couldn’t go unless you were invited. So don’t worry about it. The one that is downtown is a open event to anybody.

40

Zezzler  |  October 14th, 2008 at 2:59 pm

It was an invitation thing. One of my friends got invited, he’s the guy in white, bottom left on the first picture.
He said it was awesome, got to play a lot of games.

BStreakX  |  October 14th, 2008 at 4:28 pm

To those looking for events in cities outside of Toronto: The AMP Energy Drink video game tour made stops all over Canada this summer. Ottawa (my home town) had the SAW Video Game Party - a small retro-gaming event. And Montreal has the very cool Festival Arcadia coming up November 7th to 9th!

44
