Firmware 5.0 Demo: PlayStation Store on PSP

410 2

Hi everyone, as Eric mentioned in his post yesterday, we wanted to give you a live demo of the PSP’s direct access to PlayStation Store, which will be coming with the 5.00 firmware update. Now whenever your PSP is connected to the Internet over WiFi, you’ll be able to download and enjoy the latest games, demos and trailers on the go without needing to sync up to your PS3 or PC. Here’s a brief walk-through of what you’ll experience.

On a related note, the PS3 firmware update (2.50) will add Flash Player 9 support to the PS3 Web browser, so you’ll be able to actually watch this video (and all of our blog videos) on your PS3 once the firmware goes live!

In addition, I want to point out that the PlayStation Network is scheduled to be unavailable in North America today from 11AM to 4PM PST due to essential maintenance work.

  • @ 127 mine point is you cant play LBP,R2,KILLZONE 2,HOME infamous because it impossible to load that kind of game in a xbox360. that why 360 fan allways talk about there system can play song while there playing and in game chat because that all they have there are no games for this system but gow2 and fall 2009 hallo (i think i spell that right not sure) everone know that it a one trick pony and that why you can get this crap for 199 . that not inclueing xbox live, memory.

  • The Flash Player 9 support is great news!!!

Now we just need to be able to import flash files into the hard drive as we do in the PSP.

XMB direct access to the flash player will be great!!

  • – IN GAME XMB. Check
    – FLASH 9. Check
    – PSN on PSP. Check

    Sony’s FREAKING AWESOME. Check.

But you need more than just a few titles to move people to your platform. I am not interested in any petty contest of seeing who has this or that game, I want the ps3 to retain more of its 3rd party exclusives. The people who want those features are the ones just looking for the reason to go away from the 360. Why complain about people telling you exactly what they need to make the switch? I seriously hope there’s a greater push to get these features on the ps3 so the 360 has nothing to compel future customers and hence third party developers to their platform.

  • wow, if all updates were explained by this attractive lady, then i would not mind having updates every day :D

Great update, I love my psp although you can only pay with credit cards in holland (europe). If it were prepaid cards i could use it also, as i’m a student.

Flash player 9 for ps3?? awesome! I hope they fix the framerate for youtube.

  • Looking very good, can’t wait to try out the PSP store. Now how about being able to play Qore on the PSP?

  • so my question is, will i still need a ps3 to download and play the classics, or can i now download them straight to the psp?

  • The newest update(s) are great. Grace, as you know, I have waited a long time for in-device access to the PSP store. If Sony could address flash support on the PSP it would be a home run. Keep up the good work.

  • Great news, great stuff! The PSP is an even better traveling companion than ever. The PS3 will receive even more attention now with the upcoming update.

    Thank you!

  • @featurepreacher gears2 i argee but fable, star ocean and halo wars? please first thing they are rpg no one care about those but japan . fable2 to me is not halo, fable wont sell system and as for left 4 dead ? realy? no one talking about that game and can you mach that game with LBP, KILLZONE2? I DONT THINK SO . i gave xbox360 fan sony killer line up and they give me this? look i know you not a 360 fan but there nothing the 360 has to push sell. and yes haveing those things like in game chat is nice but but i buy system to play games not to chat or play song sorry dude. and the main and only reason why xbox selling more system is price not those little things 360 fan talk about . xbox is cheap, so was the wii it sold more then xbox do that make them better? short term yes long term no.

  • FINALLY FLASH 9 SUPPORT!!!!! SWEEEEET!!!

  • Nice update.

I am just a smidge disappointed that the screen capture feature is following the lead of trophies and in game soundtracks (i.e. on a developer, by developer patching basis). Oh, well.

  • .@154 few? few mean 2 not 6 i gave you six. as for third party developers? you right but if you take the list of games comeing out for both system there allmost the same . other then your left for dead what else ps3 missing? nothing that can sell product and that what realy count.also selling your product cheap doent make your company better in the long run.wii sold more then 360 and ps3 and now look what happen people are wanting games for it now there haveing problem and the same will happen to 360 .

  • @#4…there’s no reason they couldn’t bring it to all PSPs. the changes made so far have nothing to do with the firmware. all PSP models can go online and have WiFi so it will work on a several year old PSP or a brand spanking new PSP3000. :)

  • flash 9 is great, as long as the PS3 doesn’t run out of memory when trying to display it.
I hate when the white screen comes up :-(

  • First I want to say that this update looks great. PSN on my PSP is awesome and the Flash update is much needed. Thank you.

My only desire for my PS3 now is cross-game voice chat, but I am patient.

I do have a couple of ideas that I wish I could get on my PSP though.

    1) PDA functionality, like a datebook and contacts list that isn’t connected to anything online. Just kind of like an electronic organizer.

    2) E-books. Sony already makes the Reader and it would be incredible if the PSP team could get with the Reader team to offer this software, and then possibly even sell the ebooks on the PSP PSN Store.

As both of these features are not something that would be a perfect fit in a portable gaming system’s firmware I would be more than happy to pay for these items.

Just throwing my thoughts out there and seeing if they stick.

    Thank you.

  • Faster download speeds from the store please. I know that PSN is free but damn it’s slow compaired to downloading from a PC or other game console.

  • It looks like you will be able to enjoy your adult websites again…. :)

  • Lots of deleted posts. Not cool.

  • You guys seem to be treating the PSP as an extension of the PS3 when it’s an item that’s bought and often used separately. I, myself, don’t have a PS3 (can’t afford one, yes I do work) and it just pissed me off to see the internet ad-hoc thing needlessly TIED to the PS3 (desktop PCs exist, you know). You either assume that everybody has one or you like giving people who can’t afford one the shaft. Seriously, why did it take so long to do this? It shouldn’t be that hard or that ridiculous an idea. Anyway, now that you have the PSN on the PSP, add a friends list.

  • lol @153! :D

  • FLASH PLAYER 9!!!!!

  • @chriscowboyd
If no one except Japan cares about rpg’s then why were there so many complaints about the loss of FFXIII exclusivity? I hope you can be so dismissive when the npd’s are released in the next few months.

  • finally!! now i can watch redtube!! woohoo

  • When is the update?

  • @FeaturePreacher

The problem with retaining 3rd party exclusives is that they are dead. No company will EVER make a 3rd party exclusive game unless

    A) Company pays them a hefty sum of money
    or
    B) MS or Sony are willing to cover some development costs (see Infinite Undiscovery Lost Odyssey)

Besides that 3rd party games are and will be multi-platform. And that’s where Sony has the upper hand imo. Though MS still has the money to throw for exclusives(sometimes getting game to go multiplat).Sony’s first party companies literally trumps whatever MS has to offer.

They are almost on the verge of being a mix of their old 3rd party powerhouse of PS1/2 days(they still do have great 3rd party games coming to their system)and having the amazing first party groups akin to Nintendo; their first-party titles covers ever single genre.

  • @libregkd_117
I hope you can be so dissmissive when the npd’s come in.

  • Now that you have the PS Store on the PSP

More PS1 classics coming to the store PLEASE?! I want to give you my money!

  • I wonder why she has her PSP plugged in via USB cable instead of without??

  • will there ever be an update to have multiple account log in on ps3 so me and my brother both can get trophies at the same time

  • Notification of down time…

    GRACE

Maybe not your area but could you please see about maybe pushing a message to all PSN users a day or two IN ADVANCE of a planned outage?

Many casual users have NO idea how to check for this and if users simply got a message a few days in advance that the system was going to be down it would likely relieve alot of casual user anxiety.

  • @179…the cord is coming out of the bottom left…it is the TV out cord. See 1:04.

  • Does this mean we’ll get more ps1 classics or will end up being a dull store?

  • @rahstar2003

No I don’t agree. All I see happening to the PS3, is tons of crapulence being heaped onto it, detracting from its primary function as a game console. I already have hardware for all the other caca they’re bolting on. I don’t need it to browse the web, play music, view pictures, view videos, or send email. I need it to play games.

  • @184

Some of us like games AND the other stuff. I use my PS3 more than my computer to browse the internet now days and love streaming movies from my PC without having to burn to disc.

When YOU bought your PS3…were you not aware that the PS3 was more than a game machine? Its pretty dam clear on the box.

no one complaints about FFXIII it is still a exclusivity in the U S but in japan where rpg rule it will be out for 360 as well as ps3 but FFXII is not a system seller. you keep nameing games that dont push drive for a system i keep telling you that . just except the cold hard fact 360 fan can not name 5 games that can push there system that why they are cheap now. you think if they had LBP or killzone they would sell there 360 cheap? no the answer you should be looking for. 360 is makeing a fool out of anyone who buy it and in 6 mouths those same 360 fan who is buying the system will be commenting on there not alot of games for it just like the people who buying wii now.

  • @FeaturePreacher

I think the boy is right. If you’re RPGing in the west you’re world of warcrafting. FF and the other japanamation RPGS are dinosaur bound.

  • hey psp is connected to the TV when she moves her hand you can see the cored move. also 5sec from the end when she lifts her right hand up with the psps in her hand you can see the cored attached to the bottom of the psp.

  • @PsychoEddie
Well according to some on this blog there are already enough games.

  • Video isn’t working for me.

  • @chriscowboyd
FFXIII is multiplatform in the U.S. and Europe. Exclusivity exists in Japan only.

  • For us gamers in the East it’s just over 4 hours until the updates are available :)

  • Its now 4:50 PST whats going on I want to play Socom dammit

  • If FFXIII wasn’t a system seller, Microsoft would not have went after it for their platform. You may not like RPG’s but there are many who do. I don’t really like the Madden games that are released every year, but I don’t deny that they are important titles in terms of sales.

  • I myself dont play many RPG games but I think the Final Fantasy games are a great series and every game just get’s better and better

  • Great update, thx sony!

  • Hay if they do Ebooks there are a large number of official StarWars Ebooks that Sony could get exclusively from Lucas Arts, IMHO if they got SW:BF3, and a new PSP SW:BF game as exvlusives for Sony then yeah it would be great!

There are also a number of Ebooks for sale other then StarWars of Course.

Also please Convince the SOCOM developers to make one last treck on the PSP in the form of the way it was at the start> IE A over the sholdier shooter. But this time use Sony Bends new engine, as well as make full use of the PSPs 64MBs of memory, and the PSP-3000s new contrast and response time!

  • I’d hit it!

  • WE NEED MULTIPLE DATA ALBUM EDIT!!!

WE NEED IN-GAME ACCESS TO MUSIC FOR ALL GAMES!!!

WE NEED MULTIPLE DATA ALBUM EDIT!!!

WE NEED IN-GAME ACCESS TO MUSIC FOR ALL GAMES!!!

  • Nice! Will you be able to play infrastructure games using your PSN id, either while connected through a PS3 or whatever random wifi connection you might have?

I think continuing to integrate PS3 and PSP is a great strategy. For instance the Resistance 2 and Retribution integration. If I didn’t already have a PS3 and/or PSP I would buy them just to be able to get the added features of the games!

Now I just have to wait until I can buy a PSP-3000! My poor PSP-1001 is feeling so old and dim and… “bulky”
