LittleBigPlanet Release Update

Patrick Seybold's Avatar + Posted by Patrick Seybold on Oct 17, 2008 // Sr. Director, Corporate Communications & Social Media

During the review process prior to the release of LittleBigPlanet, it has been brought to our attention that one of the background music tracks licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Qur’an. We have taken immediate action to rectify this and we sincerely apologize for any offense that this may have caused.

We will begin shipping LittleBigPlanet to retail in North America the week of October 27th. Sorry for the delay, and rest assured, we are doing everything we can to get LittleBigPlanet to you as soon as possible.

How about letting everyone into the beta now that the game has been delayed. I think that would make everyone very content.

What exactly is wrong with including music that contains expressions from the Qur’an? Who are you offending? Of all people, I think this game is appealing to the generation of people who understand that just because someone is Muslim does NOT mean they’re our arch enemy.

Good thing I had no interest in this game to begin with… Although after a demo my tune might change :)

why should sony endanger thier employees for some kid to play a game on the 21st instead of the 27th? (and I say little kid because if you are a sony consumer and you don’t understand this move then you must be a child for no reasonable person would want to endanger a life for a game) personally i would not be offended by the game however there about 12 million muslims who might get upset

@Deviation(comment nr. ?, they keep changing, as I’m sure you also noticed ^^)

No… I don’t think that Science is A religion. I think that science can be put asides religion in a figurative speech. Religion is a belief, and so is science, if looked at with the appropriate glasses.

And religion is also a science. There is an institute for Christian Science, if I remember correctly ^^ Though I don’t really know what they do =P

This is getting me crazy! because Patrik Seybold said; “We will begin shipping LittleBigPlanet to retail in North America the week of October 27th”.

I have a PSN Friend who already have 25 trophies out of 48 in LittleBigPlanet!

@GeminiBoy

Putting your brand before the majority of your customers isn’t much of a good idea because then the brand becomes worse regardless. Why do you think Sony is having a lot of difficulty marketing the PS3?

@279 Guitain

What are you talking about.. Dont ever mix religion and science, they are both different..
Religion is just a think for scared people to live their life without too much fear and try to let you think that you know what is going on and what will happen
Science is common sense, its life, its what surrond you

Why are you hating on Sony? Its not their fault that they caught the sony. That is Sony’s job.

Just enjoy the Resistance 2 Beta while you wait for LBP…but remember a week after LBP is released…Resistance 2 comes out on the 4th of november…So save up your moneys!

I understand that this is likely not a choice made by the game’s creators, and is rather a corporate reaction to save the game (and their own asses) from scrutiny on any level that doesn’t deal with the gameplay itself, but at some point, you need to tell people to not buy your product if it bothers them that much. Here’s what you say:

We realize that this product contains some material that could potentially be found offensive by certain people, and we are releasing a patch the day the game comes out in order to negate this issue. If you would like to obtain this patch, be sure to update the product with said patch by signing up for a PlayStation network account FREE OF CHARGE, connecting your PlayStation 3 console to the internet, and downloading the patch. If you choose to not connect your PS3 to the internet and download the patch, you will need to play the game with the potentially offensive content still intact.

I bet neo-nazis found wolfenstein 3D offensive… Satanists probably didn’t like Doom’s imagery of hell. All these RPGs with their magic is clearly offensive to all branches of judeo-christianity. We only care about this particular issue so much because the minority of radicals have everyone scared they’ll be waiting outside the corporate office… It’s a sad world we live in.

First of all, everyone in here calling for Sony’s head over this is way out of line. Unless you have been living in a cave for the past 10 years, you idiots would realize the international fury that this would release upon Sony, Media Molecule, and the entire industry if the game was released with these lyrics in it. GET A LIFE IT’S ONLY 6 DAYS!

Sony had to do this and I agree with it 100 percent. The bad publicity would KILL them. For the rest of you IDIOTS ranting about how you won’t buy the game now, well sorry to hear that, your loss.

Apparently the people who complained about this game take their religion so seriously (sarcasm) that they don’t find the CD offensive, but they find it offensive in LBP.

That sort of idiocy is the reason why we’re here with LBP delayed. They didn’t find it offensive when it came out 2 years ago, but now they do. Apparently the religion allows you to bend the rules however you please.

@289 Daver.

What is a “hiccup” exactly?

And why is it, that when you sleep longer, you feel more tired?

Just kiddin’ ^^

But I think you’re being kind of offensive in your post. Saying that religion is only for scared people is far from correct. I know a great deal of religious people, and they have all been grateful for their religion being in their lives, when they needed it. One of my friends has had some tough situations(I’m not going to go into details), and he really liked having God to talk to.

I’m not confusing religion and science. It’s just a figure of speech, I recently discovered, and I thought it fit perfectly for this discussion ^^

I know there’s a difference in religion and science. But in my point of view, it’s just two ways of explaining the world. And yes, there are errors in the written parts of religion(thinking mostly of the Bible). But remember that it was written by humans, and humans make mistakes. And as for helping people in need, then Science has psychology and religion has… well, I don’t know the word for it, but I think spiritual dialogue will do fine =)

They are doing the right thing. If getting this game a week later is the worst thing in your life, you need help.
