LittleBigPlanet Release Update

333 0

During the review process prior to the release of LittleBigPlanet, it has been brought to our attention that one of the background music tracks licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Qur’an. We have taken immediate action to rectify this and we sincerely apologize for any offense that this may have caused.

We will begin shipping LittleBigPlanet to retail in North America the week of October 27th. Sorry for the delay, and rest assured, we are doing everything we can to get LittleBigPlanet to you as soon as possible.

The problem here is that this type of fascist behavior just shows what the religion teaches their believers.

Do what you will, because the world will have to bend to your beliefs.

What kind of consideration is it for everyone else on this planet then?

Don’t they also understand it gives them a bad image? You can’t flip out about something and not something else. You can’t be selective about insults to the religion, it’s just NOT how it works.

  • Man, another case of our overly politically correct society wrecking the flow for no real reason. Such B.S. I’m offended that a small minority are ruining it for the rest of us. What do I get for nothing?

  • Seriousl, an answer on this would be nice:

If we already have a broken street date copy, are we screwed? Will it be patched?

  • @308

Do you follow the news? Do you remember when there was a cartoon depiction of Mohammad ion a Danish newspaper and radical groups threatened bombings and asked for the writier’s head? This is the world we live in, not saying its right, but thats the way it is. Sony made the right choice, I’m still buying the game, and ITS ONLY 6 DAYS! GET A FREAKING LIFE PEOPLE!

  • this is silly I wanted to get the game so bad and now I need to wait.

  • Nice wording Sony. It is shipping “the week of the 27th”. That means it might not even ship until November 1st, and not available for purchase until even later.

And if you were really “doing everything we can to get LittleBigPlanet to you as soon as possible” you wouldn’t have delayed it in the first place.

    Jerks…

  • “But I think you’re being kind of offensive in your post. Saying that religion is only for scared people is far from correct. I know a great deal of religious people, and they have all been grateful for their religion being in their lives, when they needed it. One of my friends has had some tough situations(I’m not going to go into details), and he really liked having God to ta”

That’s exactly the point, people need someone to talk to, some divine power that can comfort them and take care of them. It’s just something that can calm and comfort us when we’re facing difficult times. It made up to control the masses, and to lay some guidelines for us to live by. It’s all pretty clever, but it doesn’t make it any more real than what you make it yourself.

There are a bunch of religions and all(most) of them claim to be the RIGHT one. Anyone can see the this is bull.

  • @315

And that’s exactly why they do crap like that. They threaten bombings and ask for people’s heads when they get offended because they know people like you and corporations like sony will puss out and do what they want.

  • Does it bother anyone that ONE dude caused all this to happen? I’ll still get the game. I don’t want any “hits” put out for anyone at Sony or Mm. But still, why three freakin days before the release date?

  • @314 – agree there – got a retail copy myself and not one mention of what happens for us – we haven’t done anything wrong so I’m still hoping that the patch MM produced will be working for us.

  • @321 flammenwurfer

Yep, it’s worked pretty well for them so far, why stop now. It’s amazing what society will put up with.

  • a petition for the DEMO everyone pleese

  • Make it a mandatory patch… Well i guess it will be because old the games have to have been pressed.

  • i’m not surprised it ended up getting delayed.

  • I work for a bioinformatics company. Religions take a huge amount of effort(labs can’t be done, no reused human or animal tissue, many many more) There are hundreds of lines of code just dealing with this issue in our subversion.
    It’s job security.

  • everyone sony not make a patch stop with that
start a petition for the DEMO

  • @328

MM already stated that the patch is ready to deploy on launch date (21st), but Sony decided to recall and delay for everyone who doesn’t have internet.

What I’d like to know is WHO would buy the game that doesn’t have internet already. And I’m willing to be all 5 of those people only speak English and could give two effs.

  • Looks like someone at the “playstation.blog” needs to get on the “playstation.phone” and get us some “playstation.answers”…

Especially for those with broken date copies…

  • petition for the DEMO

  • Don’t forget there are MILLIONS of Muslims in the world and they take it VERY seriously.

  • Luckily 4 me I have the game already. The song is actually hella good listen but if it offends it should be put down. Looks like I’ll be buying another copy to play and keep this one to finance my early retirement as an uber collectable resell.

  • Can we re-download the beta for the next week, that would be awesome!!!!??!!!

    :P

  • The song and the band who wrote it, on their own, have a very narrow appeal. They’re perfectly content for there to be millions of people out there who are too offended to buy their CD, since those people aren’t their narrow target audience, anyway.

LittleBigPlanet is something that Sony intends to have vast, broad, global appeal. If they release it as is, think of all the kids that might have their PS3’s taken away by their parents once they hear a song where actual Arabic verses from the Qur’an are being used as background music, and with instrumental accompaniment. Contrast that to you guys, who are having to simply wait a few extra days, and will be completely over the whole thing come mid-November.

  • Thanks for the update Patrick.

Understandable as I’ve seen many types of these things escalate to court cases and actually it isn’t that long of a delay.

  • unbelievable

  • This is a sad day :(
I hope this doesn’t affect LBP sales or reviews… /SIGH!!! I can’t belive this BS! I don’t mind waiting…let’s hope all turns out ok for LBP =/

  • Sorry above comment was aimed at @340

  • I don’t understand whats so bad if it has a few words from the Q’ran as long as the song is not using it in a bad way…

  • Delayed? Noooooooooooooooooo
Oh well its still coming out this year, no big deal. Whats with all the hate, jeezus. Fellow PS3 guys try to act like a adults. There is no reason to be so rude.

  • i too have a problem with it being removed but its ok to be sold and not attacked everywhere else. If it were up to me i would say that i would take it down if it were a problem across the board to all media and all media was asked to remove the song.

secondly media molecule had a patch and sony refused it. why? for those without internet connection? i would say let everyone get their patch and those without internet (crazy since its a community based game which cant receive user content without internet) send their game in for an exchange or wait for the next batch of discs with the fix……

not a good month sony.. i’m still unable to get on the Socom servers and LBP was at least something to ease that stress……

  • @345

There are no rallies anywhere, just a decision made by SCE. I promise you that hardly anyone would have ever heard of this song if not for LittleBigPlanet, and of course no one is going to have a rally against something about whose existence they are unaware.

  • Wow. Too bad that this got missed until so close to release date, but an extra week isn’t the end of the world, people. You people complaining are truly ignorant, of so many things, and for so many reasons.

    Talk about entitlement.

This could have been hugely damaging to MM, LBP and Sony. Better that it was caught before launch. Not that I don’t find it silly, personally, but I’m not Muslim.
