NARUTO: Ultimate Ninja STORM Hits Next Week, Only on PS3

Hello, PlayStation.Blog readers, I’m Hiroshi Matsuyama from CyberConnect2, the developer of NARUTO: Ultimate Ninja STORM. I’m very excited to have this opportunity to speak with you all about the game. Since this is my first post, I’ll cover the basics today.

I’m sure some of you that have seen our trailers for the game have thought “I bet this is just a pre-rendered movie” – but it’s not! Everything from all of our trailers is 100% real-time footage from the game running on PLAYSTATION 3 hardware that you will all be able to experience when the game is released next week.

Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm features two main game modes for players to enjoy – “Free Battle Mode” and “Ultimate Mission Mode.” In Free Battle Mode, you can play as one of 25 characters from the animated series. The battles aren’t strictly one-on-one either – you can bring two support characters into every battle, who will help you out in short bursts. This is the same three person team structure as the TV series, but now you can create your own teams with all sorts of original combinations. We’ve put a lot of effort into our battles to make sure they match the look and feel of the animated series. You can perform all sorts of amazing moves with your favorite characters and even fight on walls and run over bodies of water.

NARUTO: Ultimate Ninja STORM

Ultimate Mission Mode lets you take on 101 missions across Naruto’s Hidden Leaf Village, which acts as a hub for the game. Here, you can acquire new Jutsu moves, purchase items, and even chow down on a bowl of noodles at the Ichiraku Ramen shop! The game’s storyline covers episodes 1-135 of the Naruto animated series, so it’s incredibly comprehensive. In addition to the head-to-head battles, you’ll encounter huge boss battles, races through the forest and tree-climbing battles in this mode.

NARUTO: Ultimate Ninja STORM

At the strong request of our fans in North America, the game offers full voicing in both English and Japanese with all the original actors from the animated series. We’re also going to be releasing downloadable content for the game well into next year. It will mostly focus on new support characters and missions and best of all, it will all be FREE!

These are just the basics of the game, but if you want to check it out for yourself, we have a playable demo that you can download from PSN right now. In my next post, I’m going to give you an exclusive look at how we made the game, so check back here soon!

  • will there be updates to the game and characters as the Naruto series progresses?

  • Great going guys
I have already preordered this game
I just have a question if you preordered at gamestop can you ever get the 2nd hokage?
It would be awesome if we could!
    Great job CyberConnect2!
Thanks for making this revolutionary game!
Can you please look into adding trophies
    and maybe online?
It would make this great game even better!

  • does the game require a large installation?

  • I’m so excited for this game, you guys must be really proud. It looks like you did an excellent job.

I’d just like to add to everyone else’s request for trophy and online support. They would be massive additions and would rocket this game’s awesomeness even higher. :)

  • Best Naruto game ever made.

  • I’m a huge fan of the series, and have really enjoyed playing the games. I’ve been looking forward to playing this game for some time now. The demo was great, and I’m sure the game will be even better. I to would like to throw my voice out there for the added Trophy Support as soon as possible.

  • Matsuyama-Sensei!

Just wanted to say that me and my friends are really big fans of your game. We’ve started up our own online community with tournaments and the like and even have some match videos from your previous games up on youtube as well as match videos from the demo of Ultimate Ninja Storm.

We all anxiously await this game (6 more days to go!) and can’t wait to see what new things we can uncover with all of the characters.

Though I do have a question, are the programmers at CC2 partial to Rock Lee and Maito Gai?? In every game they are extremely good, even broken in some cases lol. (Lee’s damage output, defense level and crazy untechable combos in almost every game and Gai’s invincible start-up Dynamic Entry (in nh2 and 3) and his high priority forward+O and pheonix punch 100% block damage trap in na2).

Just wanted to know who is the green jumpsuit fan over at CC2 that are making these guys into monsters every game?! And are they still as powerful in this one?

  • Hello Matsuyama-san.

I’m really looking forward to this game, everything looks exactly like the anime (or even better!) CC2 always does an excellent job putting the Naruto spirit into their games, that’s why they are the best! :D

I would have liked online and trophy support as some people said though, but I’m getting it the first day anyway.

However, I’m also a fan of CC2’s other big franchise, the .hack// games, I wonder if you could give us some hint to a next series? :o

  • Hi I am a fan of naruto all though I have to admit I like bleach a lot more, however this game is great and I can’t wait for it to be released here in Australia on the 20th of November, I love playing the demo over again and again.

I wanted to ask Hiroshi Matsuyama a request if at all posible here in Australia not many japanese based games get couverage her, and I was wondering if you could send copy of the game to the TV show here on the ABC called Good Games, the Website PALGN and Gameplayer since they would do a review of it then so more people would know about this game and pick it up.

Here are are how you can can contact them:

  • i live in the uk and i was wondering a couple of things one will we get the free dlc and when two are zabuza and haku in the gane as they are very important and is there a chance that the dlc could be playable characters as well? this game is looking amazing thanks cyberconnect2

  • LOVEDDDD the demo.. will ya get online patch and trophy after launch?

  • AWESOME game, day one purchase for me! Only complaint I have is no online support (online battles) :(

  • Hello Matsuyama I am a player here in Spain is expected to be great game. I played the demo and it is impressive, I have seen all the videos and I love it, I’m looking forward to play with my friends. Sorry for repeating the question, but where is the saga of zabuza and Haku? You said that on Thursday takes the story from Chapter 1 to 135 but does not go out zabuza among the list of 25 playable characters. I hope this solution is very important because I believe the part in the fighting Haku and Naruto. I know that you care about the public and we will not disappoint. I appreciate that there be free downloadable content is demonstrated their interest by the public. Thank you.
Now we have to expect this juegazo that I have already booked. Greetings
Excuse my English but this text is created by google. xD

  • This is great. I’m not a huge Naruto fan (only watched a few eps, but liked what I watched), but I have to admit the demo for this game has conquered me over. I’ll buy this on Christmas for sure :D

  • why no playable charaters download?? that sucks i wont buy the game anymore

  • Some question:

Someone asked already but I don’t think it was answered. Is HAKU a playable character out of the box or a planned DLC? If not, I’m assuming you at least go up against him and Zabuza.

I haven’t seen/heard much about locations in the Naruto universe other then the Hidden Leaf Village. Could you please post more on that on your next update?

Also, is there an offline 4 player brawl?

    +1 for Trophies!

Anyways, great job CC2 and thanks in advance for the future DLC. You guys are really supporting the fans and I hope they return the favor by picking this up. If not at launch (So many great titles this holiday it’s hard on the wallet to get everything) then at least at a later time.

I’ve got my Collectors Edition on pre-order ;)

  • I don’t watch the anime but the demo was pretty good and with free DLC I’m thinking in buying this game

  • hope it will stay exclusive for PS3. now and days “exclusive (aka only for)” has lost its validity. they should say exclusive for the time being. never the less I will be getting this game. love they have the japanese voice. narutoha daisuki desu yo

  • Really can’t wait for this game, I have put loads of hours into the Demo which I even got hold of Qore for.

I’m sorry to see online is not an option in this game, I hope a path or at least the next iteration will have it.

Thanks for all the support in bringing us FREE DLC, it’s really great to see.

My only real question which would be really great if you could answer (I know this thread is old so I might have to post in your next one but…)

Is there any plans for the Collectors edition in the UK? I was really hoping to get this, if not, why not?

  • Well, I found the answer to two of my questions.

    Quoting Nobuaki Taguchi, Localization Manager:
“Sorry, but Zabuza and Haku will not be in the game.”

I take it this has been asked a 1000x. So not in the game at ALL?!? That’s not “incredibly comprehensive” :( It’s one of my favourite and most memorable part of the series. Many fans will be disappointed at the exclusion of these two characters. Please confirm that the are at least bosses you encounter!

Also, the official site lists the game as 1-2 players so I guess no 4 player matches.

I’m still picking it up but :(

  • 1. This game needs more publicity.
    2. We need trophy guyz

  • thanks i think that the free down loadable content will be the best. i played all ur game and the main problem was the 2d and u fix it with awsome graphic. i will buy this game to play it and have fun also to surrport yall so if yall need something just let me know

  • Hey Hiroshi I live far away from game crazy, is there a way to get the 2nd Hokage after you buy the game?

  • Sooo you guys had time to make a ps3 exclusive but didn’t have some to put trophies in? ………..

    ~disappointed~

  • When will Europe get this game?
And will Europe also get the Japanese voices?

  • Loved the demo can’t wait to get this game.

also is there anyway i can convince your dev team to make possibly a BLEACH game like this naruto game that would be so awesome if you guys could. I don’t know if you guys are fans of the Bleach Anime but i just would love to have a Bleach game that is like this Naruto game that would be such a fun game like this one will be.

Yes i am a Bleach fan LOL as you can tell, love Naruto as well so its a win either way for me personally i would just love to have both if you know what i mean LOL.

Keep up the good work guys

  • Great work on the game guys. best cell shading i’ve ever seen on an anime game! one thing i’m worried about, is Online gameplay, i would love it if you added it in. I dont want it just to be one of those games where once i’ve completed the game and had a few rounds against the CPU and friends i get bored, that happened with all the others. So it would be so awesome if you could add online with maybe a leaderboard? that would to me would make this game THE ULTIMATE GAME. thanks alot Matsuyama! you should feel very proud from what you’ve accomplished with Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm!

  • man, every time I see this game, its visuals just blow me away…

  • I wold like to know if CyberConnect2 will make another game of Naruto, if possible please answer. :)

  • I just picked up the game today and have enjoyed it so far except for the fact that the Zabuza/Haku arch was left out. As I have seen throughout several blogs online, many fans are dissapointed with this. Please make the Zabuza/Haku arch as downloadable mission/characters content for all the fans out there.

  • This is a very good game, I had it since the first day it came out. Since its only three options to choose from, and once you end ultimate mission mode and set your options you are only left with one, online play should be a definite add-on. Only being able to play against the computer and friends really kills the replay value. The only other issues that bothers me is that you have to play with support chars and that you can only use one ninjutsu and one ultimate jutsu. You should be able to choose if you want support characters or not, 1 vs 1 fights are fun and competitive. Since the chars already have the ninjutsu moves it would be great if they could use all of them or at least two of them plus an ultimate jutsu. That would help add variety to the game. I love the game I would give it an 8.5/10. The fighting system is great, the visuals are outstanding, and the specials are amazing. Adding online play would add an extra point to this great game giving it an 9.5/10 and it will keep fans for months on end. This will also keep fans interested for the next release, if there is one. Adding the smaller things like not using supports and using 3 jutsu per ninja would make this a perfect 10/10 game in my opinion.
