I hate to be a bringer of bad news but this update has made my PSP useless. First it reset all my default settings to factory. Then it caused the edit screen to flicker on and off so fast you can barely make the screen out. Then it caused video UMD and other to jump back and forth from play to pause fast enough to make the video to jumpy to watch. When Sony PSP Support was called I was told it was not their fault. Well my question would be who’s fault is it? My PSP is pretty much useless… Thanks Sony…

@Eric or any other firmware developers

Don’t fear redesigning the in-game xmb to reduce the amount of memory it uses in order to allow for in-game access to music for all ps3 games, cross game invites, and persistent voice chat for ps3 games.

I have 3 suggestions.

1. Remove the video and playstation strore categories. The 360 does not allow its users to play videos or visit the xbox live marketplace while playing a game, so you have no threat from the competition there. Remove items that you can’t and will never be able to access while playing a game. This action would result in the following categories being left in the in-game xmb: Users, Settings, Photo, Music, Game, Network, & Friends.

In the Settings section, only Network Settings and Accessory Settings would be available.

In the Photo section, only the photo thumbnails would be available.

In the Music section, only the stored playlists and non-playlist music tracks would be available.

In the Game section, everything would be left as it is.

In the Network section, only Remote Play and download management would be available.

The Friends section would be left as it is.

Hopefully this will reduce the amount of memory that the in-game xmb uses so that in-game access to music can be a system wide feature.

2. The other suggestion would be to change how the in-game xmb behaves. Make it where only the horizontal categories are displayed with none of the vertical categories displayed. To access the vertical categories you must use the x button to access it. Once accessed the horizontal categories would go away.

3. A final suggestion would be to combine the 1st 2 suggestions.

OK, so I’m very much confused and reluctant to load this new update. My friend loads the new update and suddenly when it’s done, his PS3 does nothing…he turns it on and its just a black screen. So that worries me, but then I’m like, OK maybe his unit just crashed for whatever reason..maybe it WASN’T the update…then I get on here and I see most say the update is great, while some others have had issue. So this scares me…I DO not want my PS3 to crash like my friend’s…is this update safe or not? Can someone please help me and and answer if I should load this or not? Any response would be great, thanks!

I definetly appreciate the PSN available on PSP.

Things I would like in a later firmware update.
-setting the lowest volume above 0 lower. If I’m in a quiet room and have the volume at 1 using the PSP speakers, it’s a little too loud.
-nested folder support
I would like to choose a genre and/or artist then choose from albums within that folder. Or have something like PS3s triangle function where you can just search the whole memory card.
-folder support for themes
Please! Having to scroll through my themes takes forever.

I DON’T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED BUT EVERSINCE THAT UPDATE I AM NOT ABLE TO PLAY COD4 ANYMORE. AT FIRST IT WOULD LET ME PLAY ONE GAME ONLINE AND THEN IT WOULD FREEZE(NOT GOING BACK TO THE LOBBY),NOW IT DOESN’T EVEN LET ME PLAY THE GAME AT ALL. I HOPE THAT THERE IS A FIX COMING BECAUSE A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING DIFFERENT ISSUES AFTER THIS UPDATE. I DON’T KNOW IF ITS THE MODEL I HAVE, THE 60GB ORIGINAL ONE.

PROBLEM
I downloaded thre update last night, no problems
Today I turn on the PS3, start up PAIN, as it is loading I here a beep, and a message appears saying their has been a network error and you must restart PAIN to access the online features”
I have reset my PS3 3 times and my modem and router and still the same thing
