Hello Blog Readers and GT Fans! I enthusiastically return to the blog with very good news. Hitting on our promise to continue to evolve the GT series, a new update for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is NOW available. This update adds three new vehicles to the game’s line-up, plus a number of gameplay and performance enhancements we think you’ll be excited about. Here we go…
New Vehicles
All three vehicles and manufacturers have special ties to Gran Turismo developer Polyphony Digital. They will be added to their respective Dealership areas in GT5 Prologue.
GT by Citreon – The “GT by Citroen” concept car is the result of a groundbreaking collaboration between French automaker Citroen and Polyphony Digital. The formal debut of the vehicle took place yesterday at the Paris Motor Show, coinciding with the release of today’s update to the game. A video of the “GT by Citroen” can be viewed in HD within Gran Turismo TV.
Check out the screenshots below and for photos, follow this link.
The two other new cars are the Ferrari California and the Lotus Evora. They are a lot of fun to drive. For a look at these sexy vehicles, check out the images below.
The GT by Citroen is available for 1 Million credits; the Ferrari California will go for 300,000 credits the Lotus Evora for 100,000. Piece of cake, right?!?
GamePlay Enhancements
We’ve also added some great new gameplay enhancements to continue to improve the racing experience in GT5 Prologue. This includes changes to the penalty system; specifically, during Time Trial events, speed penalties have been removed, and instead incurring such a penalty now invalidates the lap time for that particular lap. Race events are also being updated, with tweaked difficulty levels and increased earnings for winning a top spot. Additionally, improved responsiveness when using the wireless controller, and improved sound volume balance for sound effects and music for a better racing experience. Drift Trial races have also been changed to feature a rolling start.
Disclaimer Note Here: Rankings, arcade time trial times, drift trial records, as well as vehicle-specific quick tune settings and custom key layouts will all be reset with the new update. Replay data created before the second update will no longer be viewable after this update. To confirm the version you have before updating the game, check the in-game manual.
That’s it for now, folks. I’ll see you on the track….

What about two player online racing. Why is there no option for me to race a friend online like in Forza.

Awesome. Gonna take me sometime before I get all three new cars. Thanks for the update.
Any word on Trophy support?

Thanks Taku and the rest of the team for your continued efforts!
Is this update part of a Spec III update? Can we expect further updates throughout October? Any info that can be shared with us hungry fans? :)
Cheers!

Please consider adding trophies so I can check my PSN friends to see who can help me out with some of the levels. Thanks!

I was thinking yesterday that I might trade this title in. I mean, there is no draw to play it for me. It seems like half a game (and I suppose it is really) and sometimes it is just too frustrating to play.
Then I saw this update, and ummm well I can’t say it changed a thing. I mean, 3 new cars? As much as I love the three cars you’ve added, it’s hardly worth firing the game up again for me. And those other changes don’t mean a thing to me. I still can’t get the GTR round the high speed ring under the time limit no matter what the car settings are.
As much as I hate to admit it, Trophies would have brought me back to this game. Damage modelling, better online experience… That sort of thing. That would have got me playing this again. But GT5 Prologue at this stage just isn’t at all rewarding for me. It’s not fun like a game should be.
I’m getting Midnight Club (and LittleBigPlanet!) in a few weeks so maybe I’ll trade this towards getting that.

Where is my ability to join/invite friends to my races?

I’m hoping someone will help me out here cause now I’m wondering if I just made this up.
I had thought a while ago when GT5P was first released someone, being a developer for GT5 or someone high up (hell, it may have been in this Blog), had mentioned that GT5P is in fact GT5. What would make it the “full game” and not just prologue was the idea that they were going to constantly build on the game adding new features, new cars, new tracks, etc. In essence, the game would constantly grow.
I SWEAR I heard this somewhere but seeing people ask about the full version of GT5 is making me wonder. Any one else know what I’m talking about or am I just crazy and should probably find a padded room?

I’ve been playing this game everyday since it was released and haven’t gotten remotely tired of it. I just hope that despite all the negativity you might read here, there are just as many people like me who appreciate the effort that Kazunori Yamauchi, the guys at Polyphony Digital and yourself have put into GT5P. It’s truly an amazing piece of work.

first – where’s the damage update that was supposed to be in the fall of this year?
second – can’t you at least tease us and provide one additional track to race on?
thirdly – i will have to start playing this game again just to buy that citrogen car.

GT5 Prologue sucked, the one thing that really bothered me was the way they did the online system. Race all the same cars? whats so entertaining about that. Thats very mundane and boring. Why isn’t there an arcade style online, I get to choose any old cars, not just the ones in my garage and get to face any other car within the same class that someone else choosee? Yeah sure the graphics are nice the driving is fine, but if the online component is kept the same. I don’t see myself buying this.
And I have GT, GT2, GT3 and GT4.

Nice update, but where are the trophies?
64
Gadbury | October 3rd, 2008 at 7:08 am
Screw the trophies! No offence but what is the big deal with trophies in games? There are much more important aspects to be worked on i.e. private rooms, collision / penalty improvements, damage…

Goldrusher | October 3rd, 2008 at 7:19 am
New cars are nice, but surely this isn’t the “spec III” we’ve been waiting for ??
66
DarthBrady | October 3rd, 2008 at 7:20 am
There wont be a damage system. It was clearly stated somewhere on GTTV. something about beuty or whatever.
Just gimme some trophies, AND A FAST FORWARD/REWIND BUTTON ON THE REPLAY FEATURE! I DON’T WANT TO WATCH 5 LAPS TO SEE ONE CRASH ON THE LAST LAP!!!!

Gadbury | October 3rd, 2008 at 7:23 am
Part of it I suspect – read the news in game. I get the impression there is more to come hence my question post #55.

To all you guys complaining about the screen shots in the post. I don’t know what kind of set-up you have, but I have a six-year old projection TV that only displays 1080i. And mine looks almost as good as that. Funny thing is my TV is only supposed to do 720p, but it won’t. Oh well 1080i looks good on my TV, it’ll have to do until I can get a new one.
Back on topic thanks for the update!!!!

3 new cars is cool so I guess I’ll put the disc back in. Losing data just to get them, now that sucks. Is there really no way to update the game without losing data? The graphics are great, the cars handle perfectly but your programming needs work. I know it’s a free update and I know I don’t have to get it but I just want to go on the record to say that future updates need improvement. Thanks.

teflon | October 3rd, 2008 at 8:06 am
Why can’t the replays and quick tune settings be saved separately so that they aren’t erased after every update?
Why does a car cost $1 million in this game AND then there is a $1 million cap on earnings? What is so difficult about letting us earn an unlimited amount of money? This is especially painful because there aren’t any new tracks to try so it is an exercise in extreme repetitiveness to earn money.
The penalty system as delivered is a complete failure. The next update should eradicate the current system. Then PD could take a cue from “The Real Driving Simulator” tagline and develop a penalty system based on a real racing series. Something that actually makes sense and works would be great.
Being unable to race with my friends online has prevented me from competing in an online race for about three months.
Clearly I’m not the only person who has these issues with the game. When are we going to see some real improvements?
I will also echo Kenshin001’s comment. At this point there are 72 comments and there hasn’t been a single reply from anyone from Sony. Increasing the interactivity with Sony personnel on this blog would go a long way to improving morale. It’s nice to know that someone is at least listening when people keep posting the same complaints over and over again.

what about private rooms with kick option to kick laggers and bumper car racers? or maybe just fix the damn online physics, come on how hard can it be, every other racer seems to manage it fine, while 3 new cars is a nice gesture i seriously think you should be fixing the essentials first. I Brought my ps3 FOR gran turismo and its my least played game, online is pure horrid, sorry for the rant but the last update said online would be made better and it wasnt and although i havnt tried this one i can bet my life its not either
78
Zorox | October 3rd, 2008 at 8:29 am
What happened to the promised car damage? How about fixing the online component? I guess we shouldn’t expect much seeing as this is nothing more then a costly demo of a game stuck in the previous generation.

What ever happened to those expaned online features you were talking about months ago. It’s fall now and we have Spec III which doesn’t do anything.

I have to agree with most posters here, this game needs 3 serious fixes before things like new cars are added. 1. The penalty system is an absolute disaster, I and I’m sure everyone else can’t stand it when you get penalized for cars running into you. 2. The online also needs help, a friend list is a must. 3. New Tracks, I’m sure this is the most time consuming of the new work you do but it is also the most important. Trophies are not a big deal to me but they are to a lot of people so you should get those in too. I haven’t played this game since beating all the events (some super events definitely deserve a trophy for beating them) and probably won’t until I see some new tracks. To sum up my rant, Polyphony, there’s a lot of things people want to see added to this game before PPV video and new cars.

Taku,
Thank you for the information on the updates. I do have a couple questions however.
1. When will we have the ability to set our own parameters and run races with people on our friends list? Right now, we have no idea with whom we are being matched with and it is extremely difficult to have an online race with our friends instead of strangers.
2. Will voice chat via Bluetooth headset ever be implemented. It is very difficult to race others and not have the ability to communicate where you are on the track with them to avoid collisions when we want to race cleanly. Right now, Online racing is a big crash-fest in most corners.
3. Nurburgring? It is the single best track ever included in a Gran Turismo title and we don’t have it in Prologue. Please!!?? :P
Thanks again for keeping us updated and for any answers you may be able to give to the above questions.

oh yeah, one more thing. i also wish you guys lets us buy a car and, once it’s bought, allow us to change the color of the car. it is annoying that i have to re-buy a car just to get a different color

Fantastic news. :-)
I’ve been waiting patiently for an update, and the new cars look great (I was expeting the Ferrari and Citroen, but the Lotus is a toitla surprise!).
Hopefully there’ll be more [regular] updates in future with new cars and *maybe* tracks…

How about letting me INVITE MY FRIENDS INTO A GAME!!!! I will not buy Any Gran Turismo game again until the lack of being able to race my friends has been resolved. To me, there is no point in going online if you cannot meet new people and experience these games as a group. This game is so half done, i deleted it from my drive so i could download more AST DEW tour movies, which at least perform to their media format STANDARDS!!!!!!!!!!! WAKR UP AND SMELL THE MULTIPLAYER LAMENESS!!

looks like the developers need to include the waaaaambulance in the next patch. a lot of you sure do [DELETED] when the feature you want isn’t in the update. just be patient, THIS IS NOT THE FINAL GAME. they will get around to including features when they are good and damn ready, they aren’t stupid. on that note, great update.

HaVoK_08 | October 3rd, 2008 at 10:21 am
I wonder why they must change the car physics for every single update. Since the game has come out the car handling has changed 3 times already, if they find so many faults with it why not just get it right and let people get accostomed to it? Instead every time little Billy Blue from who knows where gets mad beacause he can’t take a corner at 140 they go and change it. The way it was before this update was much better yet now it’s gone a few steps back…(sigh)

Hmm, reading these comments has brought up some very valid points. Namely, where IS the ability to invite your friends to race against? 2 Player splitscreen is great, but online invitations would be nice as well. Though to be honest, as much as I do love this game, I’m afraid all of my spare time is going to go towards LittleBigPlanet, especially since I got into the beta yesterday!!!
