Hi, everyone, I wanted to give you a heads up about an upcoming PS3 firmware update (v2.52). This minor update is coming soon and includes the following:
- The playback quality of some PS3 format software has been improved.
- A text entry issue that occurs when using the on-screen keyboard, USB keyboard or Bluetooth keyboard with some PS3 format software has been addressed.

Haha I know 3 of my friends who bought a PS3 last week. I have really side tracked them of the positive features of the console… please thank me Sony :)

Did you at least give an option to turn off the Shift+Delete ‘feature’ that will clear the text entry completely while simply trying to backspace a capital letter?
Will this fix the freezing issues on the subject line that happens every 1/10 tries and forces you to quit the game, or if you’re in the xmb – turn off your system? Cause thats annoying as all hell.
And, will it fix the insanely annoying lag when typing in LittleBigPlanet?
And also – just a heads up. My keyboard disconnects itself a lot whenever i start a game of littlebigplanet. It is a Logitech MX 5000 that I’ve had zero problems with before. Just started doing it recently…

You know why xbox 360 only release 2-3 updates per year? Simply they have a lot of the features from day 1 (other than stability issues). On the other hand Sony is going like a snail, one update here and one update there. I mean I don’t mind updates regularly but Sony is going a bit too slow and these features are all going to come too late.
The keyboard problem happend to me in LBP. It was getting annoying, thanks for fixing it.
the text was probably not being handled correctly by the hypervisor but by one of the other SPE’s?
i still think Sony should do something about the playback quality of DivX at low and ultra-low bit-rates I’ve seen standalone players from Sony doing allot better than this 399$/Euro device and i paid a premium for my first gen euro PS3 with PS2 hardware/software layer.

MS says half of NXE features were cut, Primetime in spring 2009 posted Nov 4, 2008.
It states they will have updates when available now instead of bi-annual:”Speaking to CVG, Microsoft’s Jerry Johnson stated that many of the features originally planned for the upcoming New Xbox Experience were not implemented in the version being released later this month. Said Johnson, “Half the things we wanted to do we cut out of the service.” However, Johnson also says that updating the NXE is much simpler than previous dashboard updates, noting an “architectural change” to the system saying, “All of a sudden we opened up the platform to say ‘I don’t have to wait until once or twice a year to release something onto the dashboard.”
It seems the NXE is more based on individual applications, as Johnson noted the photo sharing application, saying that implementing it would be a simple matter of users spotting its “slot” on the dashboard and downloading it once it’s available. The upshot of all this: no more waiting for biannual updates.”
This might actually address this problem i had in NHL2K8 where I was unable to use an underscore when trying to invite someone to the league.

It would help playback quality if we had a setting that upconverted any input signal up to 1080i(for those that bought 1st & 2nd gen HDTVs) and, of course, 1080p. Odd that I’m playing games on the ultimate system in 720p when it has the power to do more. Any plans for this in the futer Mr. Lempel?
Right now the only minor update I want is to have the clock or battery status indicator moved. It sucks that they still overlap.
Great, now you just need to bring back Backwards Compatibility, at least make the 160GB a premium model like the old 80GB

Thanks anyway although I don’t experience many problems except the occasional lag in LBP, but that’s common nothing has to do with inserting text chat.

Can we please have an “alphabetical” sorting option in more of our folders (particularly “Game Data Utility”, “Memory Card Utility”, “Saved Data Utility”, “Trophy Collection” and any user-created albums). I don’t think this would be very difficult to implement.
To everyone who compare 360 to ps3
I get so sick and tried of people on this blog saying why ps3 cant be like 360, it is real dumb to say or even think because they are two different system , and there not the same by anyway . ps3 can’t have a lot of 360 feature because MS has a patent on them if ps3 steal or use them they will have a lawsuit heading there way. It the same things for MS if they put blu ray player into the 360 they will get sue by Sony. In order for ps3 to have 360 functions they will have to pay MS money to use them and Ms would have to do the same for Sony. You would think everyone would get and understand that but some how they don’t get it, maybe some of you don’t know or don’t care and simple feel to just blog what you feel and don’t seat back and think. Everyday, ever week, ever year you guys post the same dumb question and don’t really try to think own your own or read the answer to some one blog telling you why it cant be done. Am not going to put anyone on blast but there one guy who posts the same question no matter what the topic is and it’s really sad for him.
if you want your ps3 to be more like a 360 then sell your ps3 and buy a 360 because that the only way its going to happen . sony is not going to get sue by doing what a few want . please stay on topic .

Use some logic and move the XMB clock out from behind the controller battery indicator. Anyone with an HD display has to wait a few seconds before they can check the time — an annoyance when you’re playing an FPS or online game.
How many firmware updates do we need to see before you actually make this simple but highly beneficial improvement?

Still waiting on Sony to address the issue regarding downscaling on most games to 480p when someone has a 1080i tv that doesn’t do 720p.

Great to see another update. I also agree with others who want to see an alphabetical sorting option in all folders, a simple but very appreciated feature.
Any update is a welcome update! I wonder if this is going to fix the freezing problem that I have with my Farcry 2 game, or Fallout 3 freezing with notifications on?
I had the problem with the virtual keyboard locking up during web-browsing a few times, glad to know this was addressed.

this is not a sony problem but a game developer problem if you want in game access to music then start buying games on the ps3 that have it and stop buying games that dont have it. as for multiple data album edit i was reading somewhere i forgot i think here and someone saied the ps3 can all ready have this but am not sure . also there not alot of people who have ps3 realy want any of these demand you want if you ask me i realy dont care if we have them or not , i just want games to play but that just me thinking outside the box.
i noticed the patch was geared towards fixing keyboards, usb and blutooth. i am praying it will let me use my virtual keyboard now, its blutooth and registers and pairs before the patch,can u tell me if the i-tech vkb will be able to be used on the ps3 and how can i make it work properly? thanks sony i know u have a ot on your plate and i appreciate your support. to be able to use this piece of technology on this ps3 would be legend!!

Multiple data album editing cannot be done yet. It’s possible to create an album for a single piece of data, but it is not possible to create an album for multiple pieces of data simultaneously.
Custom soundtracks is a Sony issue just as trophies and in-game screenshots are a Sony issue. Hopefully in 2009, Sony will put in their technical requirements checklist that all games released on discs and on the psn must have trophies, custom soundtracks, and in-game screenshots.
Why is this MINOR update taking so long to download? Im usually done with these updates in 5 minutes. Right now its only at 19% n its been over 15 minutes. R these the ONLY issues being resolved in this update, or is something bigger in the works? Maybe preping the system for the eventual release of HOME? Dont get me wrong, I DO NOT EXPECT IT TO BE IN THE UPDATE, i just wonder if its crating some sort of backup data within the update for WHEN Home is available…
