New “Department” at the PlayStation Store: The Capcom Storefront

Posted by Ro Hernandez // PlayStation Store Team

Hope you’ve been enjoying the beefy updates over the past couple weeks. If you have been a frequent visitor to PlayStation Store, you would have noticed the custom categories we created for Halloween and for the Siren: Blood Curse promotion.

103008_GameTricksandTreats 103008_GameSirenPage

This Thursday, we are releasing a custom category for Capcom. As you may know, Capcom has been a huge supporter of PlayStation Network, so we collaborated on a special storefront to coincide with the release of Age of Booty.

Within this “Capcom Store”, you’ll be able to browse through all Capcom digital content available from PlayStation Network. Once inside the Capcom category, you will notice that all their content is sorted by title. This allows you easy access to view all content related to a particular game. This includes all full game content, demo and promotional items (themes, wallpapers, etc).

Capcom_PublisherPage_FINAL
Be sure to keep a look out for this new offering dropping this Thursday and some exclusive Capcom content headed to PlayStation Store in the future!

Peace,
Ro

This is what I am talking about Sony! Great addition to the store. Will be seeing more of the specialized store fronts for other developers in the future?

jayd1k  |  November 10th, 2008 at 5:18 pm

Resident Evil 2.

That’d be really nice with this release too.

kthxby.

nmc75  |  November 10th, 2008 at 5:26 pm

Capcom has made some historically great and successful game franchises. This is altogether great for developers all around for Sony to allow custom areas specific for their products. I am hoping to see similar developer themed stores in Home too.

21

tirminyl  |  November 10th, 2008 at 5:27 pm

Capcom…im sorry Capgods have been doing an amazing job supporting PSN and have been releasing truly amazing titles. Sony you are doing a great job with the PSN and a great job with 3rd parties in releasing content for it, Burnout Paradise for download, and now the Camcom Store. Keep it up!

22

donporoto  |  November 10th, 2008 at 5:27 pm

Nice! Waiting for SF II TURBO HD!

26

Clinton514  |  November 10th, 2008 at 5:34 pm

Gotta give respect to Capcom for leading the way on the digital front. No doubt they’ve been doing a good thing for gamers all around.

I can’t wait to see their HOME support.

27

TheInfectedBy590  |  November 10th, 2008 at 5:36 pm

Looks great! I hope more game companies start doing this as well!

28

black_ryuk  |  November 10th, 2008 at 5:38 pm

They really deserve it.
I also hope we’ll be seeing more capcom games *cough*Darkstalkers*cough cough*Power stone*cough*
Also will any other developers get this kind of treatment?

29

PS3Diablo  |  November 10th, 2008 at 5:50 pm

Thanks for showing PSN the love Capcom ! I am a huge supporter of PSN games and can’t wait to see more cool stuff. Age of Booty looks good, but I think I speak for everyone when I say “Bring on RE 2″ !!

30

Spurs2120  |  November 10th, 2008 at 5:51 pm

Capcom comes out and says SFHD is coming out in November, well here we are and STILL NO RELEASE date. Fantastic work guys, just keep being as ambiguous to the fans as possible.

John Diamonon's Avatar

John Diamonon replied on November 10, 2008 at 7:17 pm

The only reason we can’t announce a date is because we have to wait for the game to pass QA. When that happens, you’ll be hearing from me personally.

31

Neil  |  November 10th, 2008 at 5:52 pm

Strider HD exclusively on PSN confirmed!

32

Letters2Kay  |  November 10th, 2008 at 5:54 pm

Awesome- CAPCOM and SONY. The best combo in video games! I have most of their current PSN content and can’t wait for SFIIHD. I’d love to see more Capcom content in the future! Resident Evil series PSOne Classics would be nice… :)

33

Strider2K99  |  November 10th, 2008 at 5:55 pm

I’m a huge fan of Capcom, so this is great news.

I hope more developers and publishers join with storefronts like Capcom.

34

Ghostm  |  November 10th, 2008 at 5:56 pm

How about you guys talk to Capcom about getting Monster Hunter 3 back on the PS3? Now that would be impressive!

35

Wheels86  |  November 10th, 2008 at 5:57 pm

That’s pretty cool

36

wolverine81  |  November 10th, 2008 at 6:02 pm

can’t wait to check it out!

37

cb_32  |  November 10th, 2008 at 6:02 pm

Great, so why isn’t Devil May Cry 4 and Resident Evil 5 exclusive to PS3?

38

Squamden  |  November 10th, 2008 at 6:06 pm

@ cb_32

Because it simply is not profitable for a third-party to sign an exclusive contract with either Sony or Microsoft. Games are too expensive to make nowadays, and exclusive games alienate millions of potential buyers. Sony still has some incredible exclusives, just don’t expect too much in the way of third-party exclusives anymore. Accept it, and move on.

39

illegalprelude  |  November 10th, 2008 at 6:09 pm

A quick question. does this mean, new content from Capcom will only show when you go in the Capcom side of PSN or will it also still show under new releases?

I hope its the latter

Ro Hernandez's Avatar

Ro Hernandez replied on November 11, 2008 at 9:28 am

New Capcom items will still show up under New Releases as well as under Capcom Store.

40

Zezzler  |  November 10th, 2008 at 6:18 pm

Will this ‘Capcom Store’ be its own icon is the PlayStation Network section of the XMB or just a page in the Regular store?
And any plans for the other Mega Man games to port to PSN(Especially Mega Man 2)?

Ro Hernandez's Avatar

Ro Hernandez replied on November 11, 2008 at 9:28 am

This new category will appear in the PlayStation Storet.

NissanFlyboy.  |  November 10th, 2008 at 6:21 pm

Nice! It looks sweet! so not to bug, but when are we going to see some more store updates for the PSP? I mean its sweet that the psp has a store now but I’ve only seen like one update for it =-( but keep up the good work guys! (and girls!)

42

technodoll  |  November 10th, 2008 at 6:24 pm

Great; now give us Mega Man Legends 1 and 2; with captions, if possible.

43

lakaihigh  |  November 10th, 2008 at 6:39 pm

peace,

gorillapimp  |  November 10th, 2008 at 6:46 pm

Dear Ro & John D,

This truly is awesome, ill definitely check out Age Of Booty. Already own Mega Man 9, Bionic Commando, Etc. Capcom has always been one of my favorites, but we want more PSone games like Resident Evil or even Street Fighter Alpha EX. But you know what would be even more awesomer!?…Strider HD, it just looks cool reading it. BTW, im talking bout the NES classic, with the killer music. Speaking of music, why is it that the latest releases of downloadable games dont output in 5.1, or is that only on Xbox 360?

45

L  |  November 10th, 2008 at 6:46 pm

I hope other brands will do this like Square, Insomniac etc.

46

NeoMagus  |  November 10th, 2008 at 6:47 pm

Please give us SSFII HD Remix !!

47

FritoZ  |  November 10th, 2008 at 6:58 pm

Question for John D.-

so is there going to be a custom place in Home for all things Capcom?

It would be like Macy’s i bet, maybe bigger! Capcom has a lot of great franchises…so bring Monster Hunter to PS3! lol

Looking forward to the New Playstation 3 Experience! er.. i mean..oh wait..

John Diamonon replied on November 10, 2008 at 7:15 pm

I’d love to do something for Home. I can’t comment on anything at this point.

48

gorillapimp  |  November 10th, 2008 at 6:59 pm

I have another request, I know, were a bunch of greedy, needy and picky gamers. But, is there anyway to create a patch for Mega Man 9 to output in widescreen? I know its supposed to be retro and all, but many people would prefer their retro in widescreen too.

Thanx!

John Diamonon's Avatar

John Diamonon replied on November 10, 2008 at 7:10 pm

Mega Man 9 is intended for 4:3 play. What I do is use my ZOOM, H-FILL or JUST function to play full screen.
