PlayStation.com Continues to Evolve

Posted by Susan Panico // Sr. Director, PlayStation Network

Early next week, we’ll be integrating additional community features into PlayStation.com. We are excited to roll-out the first phase, which includes the ability to sign-in to PlayStation.com and, soon after, PlayStation.Blog with your PlayStation Network ID. Of course, your PlayStation Network ID gets you access to all the good things on the PLAYSTATION 3 and PSP, including games, movies and TV shows on the PlayStation Store, online gaming, and, soon to come for PS3, PlayStation Home.

Game Detail Page

In addition, we are making enhancements to the gamer profile features. Your profile will include your PSN online ID, your avatar, and a short “about me” section. You’ll also be able to display your friends list and, on the game detail pages, you’ll be able to include ratings and reviews for all of your favorite games. These features were created so that you can make new friends, learn new tricks and tips, talk trash, offer advice, console the defeated, praise the winners, and more.

If you have an Underground account on PlayStation.com and haven’t already merged it with your PlayStation Network ID, click here to do so. If you don’t have an Underground account but would like to create a PlayStation Network account to participate in the new features on PlayStation.com, click here.

We decided to dissolve the PlayStation Underground program in order to provide more PlayStation fans with a glimpse into the PlayStation Network world via the web. We hope you enjoy this next step in the evolution of PlayStation.com.

Stay tuned; before this year is over we’ll have more enhancements for your gamer profile.

What happens if I am in GAP and do not have a PSN account. Will I lose being in GAP but when I make a PSN account I get my GAP badge back or would it be gone for good?

Most excited about being able to log in here on the Blog with my PSN Callsign, which should be incidental to me considering that they are identical. I am EvoAnubis everywhere I go online.

I linked my account months ago, and just saw the GAP notification in my inbox 20 minutes ago. Glad to see more features rolling in!

Keep bringing the goodness. The built in web browser is a major advantage over other HD consoles on the market, and things like this will continue to help the Playstation brand grow its community.

DaiSenshi  |  November 20th, 2008 at 1:23 am

165

G Baby  |  November 20th, 2008 at 2:48 am

166

Gibb  |  November 20th, 2008 at 3:24 am

Very nice…

Online trophy information soon I hope?!

167

LeonBlade  |  November 20th, 2008 at 3:48 am

Sounds good!

And we defiantly need a way to show off our trophies online on the web, not just on our PS3s.

168

arabek  |  November 20th, 2008 at 4:12 am

Susan, will you be releasing the login-plugin/module to the world, so other Playstation centric blogs around the planet, could use psn to authenticate it’s users?

169

Apnomis  |  November 20th, 2008 at 4:36 am

Just so I understand this, does this mean we will be able to have the “Profile” you see on your PS3 and use it on other websites in your signature? Or do you have to log into the website to be able to see it?

Will it also track your Trophies like the PS3 version? It would be nice to have an automatically updating signature in forums that tracks games played, trophies won etc.

Sounds like this is a first step to that…

Out of interest does this only apply to US residents or will it be a global system?

170

r-nice  |  November 20th, 2008 at 4:36 am

Slowly but surely it improves.

171

neo_bahamut  |  November 20th, 2008 at 5:03 am

great news!

172

TheZed  |  November 20th, 2008 at 5:21 am

I like it. Moving to one ID for everything PlayStation is the right way to go.

Where I work I am on the IT team moving our company in the same direction for all the employees IDs. Good to see a small company of 1,000 is on the same page as the millions of PlayStation users. :)

173

playfire.com  |  November 20th, 2008 at 5:53 am

Wow! Awesome.

174

Real Gambler  |  November 20th, 2008 at 5:56 am

This has been ask many times before but never answered as far as I know.

I had two Underground account, and sadly, I’ve linked my PSN account to the wrong one. Is there a way to unlock the old accound, and link my other one instead???

Thanks

Great job guys….

Keep up the great support…

179

kspraydad  |  November 20th, 2008 at 6:37 am

Ugh…4 pages of people talking to themselves. Why is it when these blog entries are from SONY employees with Senior in their title they don’t bother to interact…are you REALLY that freaking busy that you can’t spend an hour responding to some questions?

Hire a minion if you have too.

180

Ghostm  |  November 20th, 2008 at 6:49 am

You guys need to go mobile. That would be really cool.

181

joaryche  |  November 20th, 2008 at 6:53 am

You still can not link two underground accounts to one network id…or merge two underground accounts…I had asked this question in the past (case #5512847). I thought now since the undergound is dying that maybe this problem would have been fixed.

182

Renck  |  November 20th, 2008 at 7:05 am

@ skaterricky

Did you receive an e-mail to link your playstation.blog account?

Please share the link is you don’t mind.

Thanks!

183

jorellano  |  November 20th, 2008 at 7:08 am

I wonder what the changes will be for us Gamer Advisory Panel members. Hmmm…

184

DAC-SOLITUDE Co-Leader  |  November 20th, 2008 at 7:15 am

THIS IS BULL SONY!!!
You have us PS3 Fans here waiting like your paying us, when we’re paying you.
1.WHERE IS “HOME”???
2.WHEN ARE WE GETTING “HOME”?
3.WHAT’S THE TIME & DATE WE SHOULD EXPECT TO SEE AND GET THE “HOME” UPDATE?
4.I HERD OVER AT TGS 08 THAT “HOME WILL COME OUT ON OR AROUND THE 19TH
GIVE US PS3 FANS A BRAKE, AND GIVE US SOME INFO ABOUT ALL THIS?

(WHY HAVEN’T YOU GUYS GAVE US PS3 FANS ANY UPDATE OR INFO ABOUT “HOME” ON THE PS3 BLOG?)
NOTE: YOU GUYS BETTER DO SOMETHING FAST! Cause the Punks over at Microsoft continue to work fast and keep their end of the deal to keep their Xbox fans happy. XBOX FANS HAVE ALREADY GOTTEN THERE “NEW XBOX EXPERIENCE” DASHBOARD UPDATE.(5:30am EST on Nov 19,2008
P.S. Look at it this way sony! Now Xbox will get so much more sales when they display there “New Xbox Experience Dashboard” over the counters. When Playstation 3 will still have basically the same “XMB interface” Next to theirs. The PS3 system will look like a joke!!! MARINATE ON THAT SONY…

185

zeke2040  |  November 20th, 2008 at 7:23 am

188

mrcaine  |  November 20th, 2008 at 7:54 am

Who cares?! Where’s HOME?!

189

mrcaine  |  November 20th, 2008 at 7:55 am

@185 Its ppl like you that let Sony get away with pushing HOME forever. It was SUPPOSED to be released DAY ONE!!! Cmon Sony, get with the progam.

190

mrcaine  |  November 20th, 2008 at 7:55 am

progRam duh

191

joaryche  |  November 20th, 2008 at 8:19 am

well i rather have products that work like they are supposed to and wait the extra time than to have a piece a crap given to us early that doesn’t work (i.e. Fallout 3) and have to wait for a patch to fix the problems that should have been taken care of already…I am all for quality assurance

192

the_icon  |  November 20th, 2008 at 8:37 am

Add Blog support!

“and, soon to come for PS3, PlayStation Home”

What do you mean by that? PSN ID is already supported in PS3 and Home.

193

Ghostm  |  November 20th, 2008 at 8:38 am

You guys at Sony need to get rid of Veronica Belmont. She’s actually promoting Xbox 360’s new Avatar. What on earth is going on?
Check the link below.

194

THE_EL3MENT  |  November 20th, 2008 at 8:44 am

The integration you guys are doing is excelent, keep it up! One suggestion I have is that the playstation blog posts should all apear on the PS3 information board.

195

Crumpilstilskin  |  November 20th, 2008 at 8:46 am

So Susan…Are there still plans to have a my space-esque type web page for your Home avatar like Phil Harrison was previewing at one of the recent keynotes? Is this redesign part of that?

196

Ghostm  |  November 20th, 2008 at 8:48 am

@ 185

Dude, I can feel his frustration. It’s been 2 years since Sony announced PS Home. Xbox 360 actually beat us to the punch. That’s pretty sad.

197

Ghostm  |  November 20th, 2008 at 8:54 am

PS HOME CLOSE BETA
PS HOME CLOSE OPEN BETA
PS HOME BETA ver. 0.2
PS HOME BETA ver. 0.3
PS HOME BETA ver. 0.5
etc…

2 Years pass…That’s just BS!

Empty promises as usual. Nothing new. How on earth did M$ beat you to the punch Sony? Please explain that to me and a bunch of other people. I have a very good feeling that PS Home will not be fully released this year. We are going to keep on seeing open betas until mid 2009 or later.

198

spicebean  |  November 20th, 2008 at 9:08 am

Sounds suh-weet!

199

Ghostm  |  November 20th, 2008 at 9:08 am

PS HOME IN-BETWEEN BETA

PS HOME SPECIAL QORE INVITE BETA
