Street Fighter HD – It’s Finally Here

216 28

First off, I want to say that my PlayStation pals are the best around. Nothing’s gonna ever bring you down. I mean that, I really do. Lol.

Joe Esposito once eloquently proclaimed that “History repeats itself” and it’s an honor for me to announce that Street Fighter returns today on the PlayStation Network. On a personal note, it’s been a dream of mine to work on this franchise. I remember going to the local 7-11 and spending hours trying to pull off an invisible throw or handcuff glitch. I remember sharing theories with my friends that it was possible to throw that rock in the Chun-Li stage, pull out Guile’s gun, control Ryu’s red fireballs or defeat the mysterious Sheng Long. Street Fighter was a cultural phenomenon not seen since the days of Pac Man. Here we are, almost 20 years later, and this franchise is as relevant as ever.

Here’s the final HD Remix video for your viewing pleasure.

Enough of my reminiscing. I’m here to talk about the next installment of the SF2 series; Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix Special Champion Hyper Alpha EX Versus Zero Plus Collection Edition (am I missing anything?). Ah Capcom, we love long game titles. I can go on and on about the many features of this game, but instead, I’ll provide you this link that contains all you need to know about HD Remix.

I’m also really excited to give you an exclusive soundtrack inspired by the Street Fighter series. The Street Fighter Underground Remix soundtrack contains tracks from artists that I admire with that underground, hip hop flavor. Did I mention that you can download these tracks for free on the PlayStation Network? I have fond memories battling my frat bros on the SNES and listening to Souls of Mischief’s “93 til Infinity”. You know Hieroglyphics had to be on the album. You’ll also hear the musical stylings of Redman, Oh No, Mistah F.A.B, Zion I, DJ Toure and the turntable legend himself, DJ Qbert. Oh, did I mention these tracks were FREE? Go to our MySpace Music page to hear previews of the songs. Make sure you add us!

Anyway, I just want to say that it’s been a pleasure talking to all of you and answering your questions, and replying to your comments. It’s been fun responding to the trophy issue for like the umpteenth time! ;) We hear you, though.

Have a great turkey day and see you next time when I talk about Flock (coming in January). See you online!

Peace in the Middle East,
John D

  • I’ll buy it as soon as it supports trophies

thanks for the response John. now if i could just think of a way to get out of work & class early…hmm…

  • Is this game out yet? I checked the online store but don’t see nadda…

  • Where is it?! Must download… *Drools*

  • Cool buying this on thursday. :)

  • I like Tuesday store updates better. I’ll pick this game up when it has Trophies. Wut?

  • How so very beautiful…

  • Please although i’m very happy for the grace of SF2 HD remix I’m also curious to see if capcom is listening to and keeping an ear out for Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 and the streets are defintiely thirsty for a Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 also please the license is now available please make good use of this time to monopolize and give the consumers what we want!!! god would smile upon the good people of capcom and bless them all with infinite prosperity!!!

  • guys give it a break.14.99 is more than reasonable, give it all the work these guys did to enhanced this game.

I can’t wait to play this classic!!,I’ve been playing SF since the very first one.

    see you online.

  • I don’t even need them, but I got my quarters lined up for this game. ;D

  • What’s the price again??

  • M$ manages a worldwide release. How do Sony ever expect to gain ground on Live if they cannot even deliver on things like this. They are giving M$ timed exclusives all the time.

I wish I got a 360 instead when things like this happen time and time again.

  • I never really played Street Fighter games in the past. They just sort of slipped by as they were competition for Mortal Kombat and I always had that game instead.

Plus, I wasn’t very good at MK either. I always thought of them as “button mashers”, because that was how I played. wiggle the stick like crazy and press all the buttons at the same time. I’m sure it is an excellent remake, but I’ll probably end up passing on this one, as money is kinda tight right now, with Christmas right around the corner.

    Thanks though

  • I am ready!! I have been waiting on this game for far too long. lol

  • @112…then sell your ps3…buy a 360 and get the hell on and leave people on this board alone to enjoy their ps3s. don’t tell us you’re leaving…just LEAVE already.

the only thing better than a tuesday update? a monday update perhaps lol…C’MON XMAS! we need a holiday to be on a tuesday so we can get a monday update

  • I was just watching Daigo do that double jumping Strong, Shinkuu Hadouken combo on YouTube yesterday!

Welp, time to go buy yet another Vanilla Visa at 7-Eleven (since they still don’t carry those PSN cards)…

  • i keep playing the video over and over (just the beginning) to hear Ryu’s hadoken. man they need to update the store already.

  • OK…Capcom..no money from me…I am through…I am going to save my 15 dollars towards SFIV..you guys take too bloody long to update the store..If I waited a few hours more I would have it on the 360 version with achievement points..This one doesn’t even have trophy support and it is not even out yet..why the hell I should wait until God knows when..

  • so why the delay in europe
we uk fans been waiting just as long for this too come out
now have to wait longer :(
    ( ….. signs into us account )

  • John, I’ll buy the moment it comes out but please, please just promise this time Capcom is actually working on trophies for this game. I have a 360 and would rather have the PS3 version but my deciding factor on a game like this is based upon one SIMPLE thing. Since there’s no unlockables in the game from what I know, I’d just like to have some cheap self-glory Trophies for myself to admire.

If ya can, reply to me through it. I’ll be on l8rs.

  • Hey John!

I am so excited about this release today, thank you all @ capcom for bringing it here.

Everybody here is talking a lot about trophies but I think the best thing ever you could add to this game value to make it pown so much and sell a lot for a long time is too make it able to start an online party or duel from HOME!

It would be amazing! I just received a home invitation on saturday (thanks sony!) and the one thing I was thinking everytime I was talking with someone was: I would like to be able to challenge him in a street fight now! hahaha

Hey John, bring this idea to the developers I think it will be so much welcome and it would be even better if we had capcom rooms. Its because sometimes it can take a while waiting people in game lobby when in home you first meet people easily and then people chooses a game to go.

tried to add your psn but your list is already full hahaha
put the home thing and friend list will not be a problem anymore :)

if you don’t come back this year then have a happy christmas and new year celebrations

    cya

  • @115

Guessing you do not live in a PAL territory. I can have a good moan on here if I like :p

  • Guess I have to take a break from that last Resistance trophy. I’ve relenquished so many quarters on this franchise since the very first game. I actually used to want Ryu’s thong sandals. I’ve been waiting for a new Street Fighter for so long, and this fresh twist on the old classic will definitively hold me down before SFIV. And I’m off of work the rest of the week!

  • So can we expect the same trophy support that bionic commando got? Oh wait, we must keep waiting!

  • SF2HD on the PSN Store!!!!!!!!

    not…

  • Bout time! Its on like Donkey Kong!

  • I’ll buy it when trophy support is added. If it’s released in Europe that is….

  • I don’t know if you read my comment last time, but I said you were the coolest poster here because you know what the yay area is! :D

I’m more excited for the music though… sorry! :D
Tekken is more up my alley, but I have mad respect for SF. :D

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! [/darthvader]

I just spent my gaming budget on MK vs. DC. I don’t have enough left to pick this one up! Ah, I have to wait until next payday to get it! In the meantime, I guess it’s Socom, COD:WAW, and MKvsDC.

Hey John, I guess it’s like clockwork now. Brock Lesnar ownage = New Capcom PSN game.

  • Damn can’t wait.

Any idea when this will be out in Europe/UK, I have been waiting for ages, it’s a big let down for me. As a fan this is one of those great game that will never be forgotten. On par with MGS(whenever it’s released) as the best games on PSN.

Hadouken! release it next week please Capcom!

  • John can you tell us how you can develop a game and not have trophies implemented from the start? Seriously what were you thinking, you have achievements from the start, is it really that hard to swap achievement for trophy, seriously, are you that far out of the loop? Yet you come on to the blog and spout some fake sony fan fair and propaganda and then give a game that is edited for our system, yeah your little special segment of the store really means jack, big props to the company who just doesnt get it, trophies help sell games, how about next time you take the samll initiative to give us the full game.

    • Look at my past blogs. I\’ve answered this question quite a few times. Not avoaiding it, but I seem to answer this everytime.

      See you online bloggin!

  • Hey John, can’t wait to pick this up. I am currently away from home so I won’t be picking this up today but when I get back I shall be buying HD Remix. I topped up $20 just in case because I had no idea what the price would be but I made a good enough guess though.

I’ve got my imported Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 from Japan ready and waiting to use on HD Remix.

  • Seems like there was a post when we were told that there will be a surprise for us…..

I wonder if that surprise is Marvel Vs. Capcom 2

It was posted on ESRB site for quite some time………..till it magically disapearred.

  • @ Sony/Jeff Rubenstein:

I already left an e-mail, but you guys really need to be updating your store at midnight (or at least some set time). Some folks (myself included) waited up until midnight for this only to be disappointed.

The competition (that’d be Microsoft) seems to have their act together when it comes to digital/download releases (my understanding is that stuff goes live at 2 AM every Wednesday), so this is something you should take seriously and get working.

Anyways, still eagerly awaiting this, just a bit disappointed in the way Sony handles online releases.

  • Oh, and trophy support PLEASE. I know you’ve said you’re thinking about it, but a definitive answer on that would be insanely helpful. =)

  • Awesome! I’m picking it up as soon as it drops!

  • I want this now!!! XD

  • @132: The game was in development long before Sony decided that it would be a good idea to implement Microsoft’s acheivement system into their console and call it “trophies”. That’s why a lot of games don’t support them.

Instead of asking the third party guys, why don’t you ask Sony why it took them so long to get a trophy system going. Why should a company have to go back and revise a game that may have been close to complete just because Sony wants to throw something in on a whim.

Just wait until Home comes out. We’ll see how many companies support THAT as well.

  • Let me just say I’m so glad that Sony is making Trophies mandatory for 2009. Anyway, I’ll have to wait on getting this one, it looks amazing and awesome work on the videos. That song was perfect, but money is tight with triplets on the way. lol

  • I appreciate the free and exclusive tracks, but it would be nice if the game supported custom soundtracks so we could actually listen to these songs while playing the game. I’m buying the game though, it looks great. Please add custom soundtrack and trophies.

  • @139

PLease, trophies have been around long enough for this to have happened, were are not talking about a ps3 game, same goes with bionic, does it take 8 months to patch, would this have taken so much “extra” effort? NO. Its going to be another put it on the back burner and forget about it, and btw trophies sell, the extra time wpuld have paid off, how many on this blog mention trophies, a small sample of the ps3 community already shows the demand, get off capcoms nuts.

  • Not to mention when a game has less work put into it, why do we pay the same price as the box? They knew about trophies, they know about custom music, the box has it, yet same price. We got the gimped version we should get a lower price.

  • 15$+txs for a classic game without trophies? combined to the 2$ sackboy costume, definitely a thanksgiving’s fool today! Thanks guys for this great moment of fun!!!

  • @139
Dude, if that’s true (which it’s not) then games like Burnout and Far Cry 2 and GTA 4 and COD5 and soon, Brothers in Arms, would freakin’ not have ever added trophies. Those games take a lot more time to make than this awesome looking game. The reason Sony needs to break people’s faces open about this is because I have a 360. Why buy this game on the PS3 when I can get 1 small, fun extra feature?

And to the anti-anything-people-like group, Trophies and Achievements, although they don’t do anything, are fun to collect. It’s the same feeling I get when I beat Soul Calibur and unlock some art work or something stupid. MK, great example, is REALLY fun and keeps me playing to unlock everything. Why was Pokemon’s gotta catch em all catchphrase so great? Because that’s what gamers love: unlocking or collecting stuff. That’s why I have old NES games that I’m never going to play, but they’re my little ‘trophies’ for games I’ve played over the year. Amen?

  • I’ve been waiting a long time for this, can’t wait to get this

  • @145
Exactly dude, the people on here that cant tell sony and others some real criticism do not need to be criticizing others that want to give real feedback, they just are happy with anything and everything, god forbid you ask for quality, isnt that sony’s big thing quality?

  • where is the game? i’ve been searching on the playstation store all day and it’s still not added yet. they said it was “supposed” to be out on the 25th, which is today, but still no street fighter! what’s up with that?

  • Who cares about Toffee support?

I just hope the online performs well.

  • so will this game have ingame music option? please tell me it does! :)

  • I don’t mind about PS3 features, but 15$ just for an HD remix of a classic game, it’s too much… don’t you think?

Bionic Commando had more lifting…for 9,99$

so for 15$ I was expected more PS3 Features for the game…that’s it…
