And We’re Back

Posted by Jeff Rubenstein // Social Media Manager

Here it is, the redesign of PlayStation.Blog. In addition to being more attractive, we feel that readers will find more of the PlayStation information you’re looking for with less of that tedious “looking.” Please click around, search for older posts through our new category drop down menus, and indulge with the new, super-convenient “All Posts” button. If something doesn’t work, please let us know.

Over the new few hours/days we’ll be working on sorting/organizing some of the categories, so keep that in mind.

So now it’s time for us to kick back (feet on the desk) and rest on our laurels until the end of the yea- oh wait. We’ve got more good things planned (stuff you’ve been specifically asking for) to come, and rather soon. We’ll keep you posted.

OK, back to your regularly scheduled posting.

Dig the new layout. Love the improved functionality. Will definitely be an improvement in finding past posts.

Great job! ;)

Yah know, I would like to be able to type in my comment w/out having to scroll all the way down here. Thats what you all need to be working on. Also, the ability to edit comments and update them are also things you all should have had on here from day one. I’m not complaining just edifying. Hope this post gives you something to think about.

I just thought about this, the PS Blog has re-launched on the birthday of PS3 in the U.S. (since PS3 launched on 11/17/06 if I remember correctly). That’s really cool.

Love the blog for sure. :D Happy Birthday PS3 also.

SantanaClaus89  |  November 17th, 2008 at 12:48 pm

I would really like to be able to change my settings so that the posts and comments show up for my time zone (EST) instead of Pacific.

Maybe this is already possible, I don’t know but if it is it’s incredibly hard to find and I would like to see it addressed.

Thanks for the post Jeff.

Really don’t see that much of a difference from the old format, but it’s still a great blog !

121

erico316  |  November 17th, 2008 at 1:47 pm

122

Trustter  |  November 17th, 2008 at 1:51 pm

Hi Jeff,

I love all this changes:

- You must to love the banner
- The lighter Grey background
- The quick updates
- The post button just after content/new/information
- The bottom of the page

Please bring more.
Thanks

Lanmanna  |  November 17th, 2008 at 1:54 pm

I miss the colorful PS logo. Now it is just white, another game company that starts with a “Nin” does it too. :(

125

jayd1k  |  November 17th, 2008 at 1:56 pm

is there any way to get a PSP friendly version of the blog and PSU? it would be nice to have most if not all of the features from the site.

126

chrisrhymz  |  November 17th, 2008 at 2:00 pm

this is a good update for the blog n i think all the updates are jus perfect for now… great job guys!

127

lifeRPGs  |  November 17th, 2008 at 2:03 pm

What’s left to do:

*PSN ID Integration
*Edit feature
*Make this blog the one and only Worldwide Playstation Blog. There are more europeans than north americans visiting this blog, so please make an effort

[Threespeech is useless.]

You might as well consider bringing this on the Xcross Media Bar.

Just to clarify a few things here – we’re not likely to add an edit comment feature here. We don’t want to turn each comment into a mini-message board. So pre-read before you hit submit. It’s what I do.

And while we have a substantial European readership, it’s only about 10-20% of total readership, depending on the day and post. Not more than North Americans, FWIW.

128

huiboo  |  November 17th, 2008 at 2:12 pm

The lighter Grey background is horribly hurting my eyes, is there a way to change that back?

Turned this site from pretty cool into not so cool imo.

129

SpeedRacer1955  |  November 17th, 2008 at 2:15 pm

It would be nice if the scrolling banner actually went some were when you click it. So far it goes to twitter and then back to the playstation frontpage. It is about as useful as the information bar in the XMB of the PS3 (i turned it off because it was rarely upto date)… Otherwise nice update look forward to future updates….like after Home is out….

130

Andronix  |  November 17th, 2008 at 2:31 pm

It looks the same but worse.

The title/logo is grey and boring but the PS logo is multi-coloured; why not bring the colours back?

Celebrate the PlayStation logos, and brand. Dont hide them!

(I still love the site though)

yunier91  |  November 17th, 2008 at 2:41 pm

@ jeff

Im using firefox 3.0.4

135

lifeRPGs  |  November 17th, 2008 at 3:39 pm

@ Jeff’s answer on post number 127

Truth be told, i purposely exaggerated earlier when stating that more europeans visit this blog than north americains. My point was quite simple though: This website should be the source to all Playstation 3 owners. SCEA have their forums, we europeans have our SCEE forums, however this blog should unite us all.

Thank you, enjoy the cake, and good night.

decimalator  |  November 17th, 2008 at 3:41 pm

But then Jeff would have to learn french and italian and german and spanish and … and pig latin.

137

irk_t_great  |  November 17th, 2008 at 5:29 pm

I like how the store updates on the “Recent Posts” are different from the rest of the posts. Each kind of post should be personalized. Perhaps each company could have its own look too.

138

the_icon  |  November 17th, 2008 at 5:36 pm

Its ok I guess..

139

Cplhicks  |  November 17th, 2008 at 6:14 pm

Love the Phillies icon you chose!

140

erico316  |  November 17th, 2008 at 6:17 pm

jeff what does the + sign mean next to our names?

141

fredbob3  |  November 17th, 2008 at 6:28 pm

love the update. check this every day, but, on my psp. i’d love one of the following.

psb optimized for psp(and maybe something for the ps3)

psb for mobile

align everything on the right correctly on the psp

142

Gaia  |  November 17th, 2008 at 6:28 pm

No more favicon? :(

143

Jeigh  |  November 17th, 2008 at 6:29 pm

Mm, well it’s definitely an improvement over the last one, but I still don’t have my font options… :(

And (possibly :P ) more importantly, I don’t think it really addresses the issue of the top post getting the majority of the focus. I think the best way that could be fixed would require disposing of the vertical alignment of articles and placing them side-by-side somehow. Just a thought.

144

TheHakku  |  November 17th, 2008 at 6:33 pm

Fantastic! Glad to see the RSS feed is up and working again! =D

145

Toast  |  November 17th, 2008 at 7:34 pm

Site looks nice, things seem a little bigger, which should help for those viewing on the ps3.

146

147

samrican  |  November 17th, 2008 at 9:46 pm

148

jazzagers  |  November 17th, 2008 at 10:51 pm

Any chance that you guy are going to update the dashboard widget to reflect the change in the blog?

149

striplay  |  November 17th, 2008 at 11:23 pm

@ Jeff:

Thanks for the update on the Blog…

A couple of things though,

We still need a Preview and Edit option when posting.

Also, The user images to the right are a little too small now.

I would also like to be able to track my own posts and any comments made about them…

will these ideas become possible in the not to distant future?

Other than that, the look and feel of the new design is good.
Keep in mind though, if you ever need a fresh perspective for ideas… I know this guy stri :) who would be willing to go on the payroll.

lol Take care.
l8r!

They are ready did that, my name is my PSN id tag. You just late to the show. Nice redesign, but make it even better as the weeks goes on. Now we need a XMB redesign and we’re in business and more games support music off your hdd. Did I mention HOME, no they already know that one.
