PS3 Firmware (v2.53) Update

325 0

Hi everyone, in the next PS3 firmware update (v2.53), coming soon, we’re improving the way the Flash Player works with the internet browser. In addition to being able to access more sites using Flash, you’ll be able to enjoy:

  • Full-screen mode playability
  • Live movie (using RTMP format) playability

Now it’s going to be even easier to enjoy web content on your PS3, in full-screen!

  • im so glad i got a ps3 like it just keeps on getting better and better!!!!

  • Then you obviously got lucky, myself and numerous others are screwed until they fix it, just check out the 12 page thread I linked to on page 2 or search 80022D11, and in that thread you can also link to the EU forums where they are also having the same problem. And at least the community leader there said they are looking into the problem, unlike SCEA which is just leaving us hanging.

  • GREAT! I CAN NOW SEE MY FAVORITE VIDS WITHOUT SOME FREEZING OR BLACK SCREEN

  • cool im updating now. Hey could you guys in your next update make the ps3 80 gb fully backwards compatible with ps2 games? For example I want to play Ratchet Deadlocked online but I can’t. Could you guys fix that?

  • Features request for next firmware:

    1) Add support for upcoming DiVX 7 which includes MKV container support
    2) FLAC audio lossless codec support
    3) Add support for DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD bitstream output on HDMI. If cheaper Blu-Ray standalone players can do it I can’t believe the PS3 wasn’t designed to have the HDMI port firmware chipset flashed and updated if needed

  • Anything good in the pipeline for the PSP?

  • Ye now other people can watch my youtube vids in full screen. LOL

  • Hi sony, thanks for keeping us updaded but can you please make it so we can have custom avatars or atleast make a larger selection. oh and some websites are still not supported by the browser such as my bank account at wellsfargo.com and some other sites please fix. thanks

  • REALLY COOL UPDATE thanks, but i hope this means we can also watch streaming videos on the ps3 browser via remote play on the psp

  • I’m really grateful that you guys so faithly keep the PS3 updated and continually make it better. Plus the increased flash support was something I’ve been waiting for. Although to make the PS3 the true media hub that it’s built to be it needs more file and codec support. The worst is seeing a avi with a thumb nail picture and only when clicking to play it do I realize that its not supported. Most of my home video’s have been shot with digital camera’a and are in the popular .avi format yet the playstation has no idea what to do with them. This is the playstation only real shortcoming in my opinion.

  • Nice job Sony!

  • Love the Hulu “full” screen and it seems to play the high-res versions just fine. Still a bit buggy with occasional lockups, but my biggest gripe is no matter what view mode I set the browser to a widescreen video is still letterboxed with bars on the side. Apparently even though in the standard browsing mode it can use the entire screen, but not flash full-screen? But I guess you didn’t say flash wide-screen now did you? Anyhow, love the direction this is going.

  • Thanks!
This resolved my Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket Powered Battle Cars Online issue. Before I was unable to connect, now I am able to play online! w00t w00t, thanks Sony and PsyOnix!

  • Cant Wait

  • Sony i luv it how you keep crankin out the updates. Please make the most important update listening to music while playing a game. It would be awsume to do that in gta4 or saints row 2. Come on. catch up with that piece of [DELETED] xbox 360 and add this feature.

  • UPDATE FRIED MY SYSTEM SO SAD TRY AND TRY AND IT WONT WORK.

  • Sweet… Now when are you guys gonna get MKV support? hehe Would be awesome to watch movies in MKV on the PS3… :D Then I can fully use it as a Home Theater System without having to go to my laptop to watch movies. Transcoding it takes away my ability to toggle audio and subtitles :(

  • The browser still sucks. It is still buggy, even when running youtube. Why do i have to reload sites so that the links on them will work. What’s up with memory being full?

  • is it possible to get our own stores in home.like ‘a community of sellers. maybe run a home business from our virtual apartment . our reference our own stores outside of home .or ebay stores .like second life but instead of property you could sell apermit and charge amonthly fee instead taking a percentage. like paying rent at a market. warcraft has how many subscribers ,wwhat if you had gamers and business owners subscribing to use this servicelike i wholesale bedsheets made in china and sell them here in the usa,c ould i sell sheets and give a custom in home item to match for free

  • sorry i typed these with a controller at 2 a.m.

  • Schweet!!! Update!!! ahahahahahahaha!!!!!

  • Does anyone have any problems after this update? My Ps3 doesn’t read the disc anymore. Do you guys have the same problems?

  • screen saver needs to be off during full screen flash
nfl.com video doesn’t work or live games
    26/100 acid 3
for reference firefox svn build 92/100
    webkit 100/100
    ie 7 20/100

  • Will this lates update fix the 7522 DLNA error a lot of people are getting when trying to access their music over a network from their PCs? Mine does this and it’s one of the two reasons I got a PS3, so I’m not the happiest at the moment.
incidently it’s ok with video and pictures.

  • So does anybody know if Sony will increase the maximum space for cache and cookies, I always seem to find a problem usually when I’m watching videos and my browser slows down.

  • Thank you for the update ;)

But if we now have full Flash 9 support why do video’s like

Elmo with Chris Brown still not work.. (example in link)

  • Well…this update has brought me problems. Now youtube videos just have audio, there is no video.

  • Xbox360 can play games from hdd when is dvd inside. Why PS3 dosent have this?

    sorry for my bad english

  • Hey guys on Hulu, use pop-out to get the video to fill the whole screen.

  • same problem as 276: One suggestion to sony team, please always test famous websites like youtube, grametrailers.com etc.

  • if u put the internet browser Ps3 in full screen on youtube :)

  • now i can watch my favorite anime shows on youtube!!!! :D

  • SONY PLEASE TEST OUT YOUTUBE & GAMETRAILERS.COM PLEASE!!! :(

  • No one answered my #180.

Why did they take out being able to download files, videos to watch them later.

The reason i care is because on gametrailers, i watch the reviews, if i watch them in HD on the web site, i get massive dropped frames and stutter. If i save the wmv and watch it from my HD, it is perfect. So i’m kind of miffed about it now.. Some one explain to me why this was taken out.

  • I AGREE!!

    PS3 BROWSER SUCKS!!!!

Its need to be 100% redone!

  • awesome! Keep up the good work! What I really wanna see though is the ability for the ps3 to act as a DLNA server. So that I can just keep all my media on my ps4 instead of having to have another computer on to access it over direct play on my psp. Would also mean I dont have to specially copy albums over just so they can be played with games that allow custom playlists.

Keep up the good work though!
    and thanks :)

  • err ps3, not ps4 lol.

  • NICE UPDATE SONY..ive been waiting for something to make it full screan!!!

  • I just downloaded the update and I’m experiencing the same problems with youtube as others (sound but no picture). I tried 10 vids and only one worked. Before the update it was the opposite, maybe 1/10 vids would only play sound. I tried some other flash vid sites and some worked, some didn’t. Unfortunately, I’ve come to the conclusion that the ps3 browser has a 50% success rate (at best) when it comes to codec support (flash included) – it’s worse than my old 1st gen mac mini with Safari (an accomplishment that’s hard to top).

@268 – I completely agree. I’m especially annoyed on how the browser doesn’t recognize/respond when you click certain links (this happens completely at random). Example: I’ll sometimes type up a long message on a forum and when I hit the submit link, the browser won’t recognize the link; therefore, I’m unable to post what I’ve typed. Meanwhile all other links on the page will work, go figure.

Continued due to this forums’ character limit………

  • so am i to guess that sony now has access to Adobe and Macromedia and is able to update it often?

  • @180 – I don’t use this feature alot but I’ve tried it in the past and I just tested a vid link from my favorite porn site. I was able to save it to the hdd like before. Maybe it’s the website or the file type you’re trying to save? I’ve only saved a few online vids to my hdd so maybe I just got luck?

@284 – I’d have to guess it’s either your internet connection or the ps3 (a limitation of the hardware and/or software), possibly a combination of both. We all know the browser doesn’t run great, and you have to keep in mind that the ps3 has a low amount of system memory (1gb of RAM) and I think it only has 256mb of on boad/dedicated video memory. I have to wonder how useful the new full screen video view mode will be considering this.

@285 – I have to agree. The browser has come a long way and I appreciate the effort by Sony, but it still sucks. I love my ps3, but the browser is frustrating and a [DELETED] to use. Please consider a new browser or possibly outsource one that’s already proven. People want compatibility when it comes to the internet and the ps3 browser falls very short on this. I’d be happy to pay a one time fee for something that works.

  • common Sony…you updated the flash on FW 2.50 so this in no excuse!

  • ok i just updated my ps3 and you guys suck you didn’t tell me the update would make all the colors in my them setting go away

  • Next major update can you guys please make it so we can listen to music during game play. thx

  • Better browser support or a new browser (FIREFOX) would be a great start.
The PS3 is the best system out there.
    HANDS DOWN
Also a different screensaver or some options would be nice also.
Keep up the good work Sony.

  • Great update! What a treat to be able to watch hulu on my TV. Finally the wifey and I don’t have to huddle around the dang computer anymore. Keep up the great work!

  • There is a way to ADD THIS?
    http://it.youtube.com/watch?v=Wuoq__t7NjE

THATS SO COOL!! PUT IT BACK ON THE NEXT FIRMWARE!!

  • Happy about the ps3 update.

I have a request for PSP updates. My campus requires VPN to access the interent. I am hoping for the ability to enter VPN info for the psp so I can access the internet.

    That would be fantastic.

  • eric can you also make it speed up some and run a hole lot smoother i me can you allow us too use memory boosters or just have a performance option that speeds the system up someits nice to have a good connection but some of us cant aford to get one as of right now so please get back at me on this one i feel it laggs a little in sertion key areas like in down loading and some web sites or may be boost the down loading speed direct down loading would be nice too i see the need to have the usb thumb stick but if it catches a virous it still will get in the system dont you think? plus we can reformat the hard drive if it gets nasty

  • Why no 1080i support for ALL games Sony? It’s the most requested item on the PS3 forums, it affects thousands of people, and yet it gets no attention. Flash support is nice, but how about throwing a bone to all the people who have HDTVs that don’t support 720p and have their supposedly high-def games downscaled to 480p?
