PlayStation Home is Now Live!

Hi PLAYSTATION 3 community,

I am so very happy to announce that PlayStation Home has now officially entered into Open Beta. Restart your PLAYSTATION 3, and you will see the PlayStation Home icon under the PlayStation Network column of the XMB. Click on the icon, and you are in.

Getting to this point has required a tremendous amount of participation, input, care, and passion from the thousands of beta testers who helped make PlayStation Home what it is today. So to all of you that have tested, from all of us on the PlayStation Home team here at Sony: “Thank You!”

For those of you that are new to PlayStation Home, be sure to plug in a USB keyboard (or pair your Bluetooth headset) and start meeting your fellow PS3 owners. And remember, even with all the spaces, rewards, items, and activities available today, what you see now is just the beginning. Home will grow, change, and evolve very quickly – and it is all based on your feedback.

This is your community, and we are listening.

  • The Home icon has yet to appear. What seems to be the problem? I have internet connection and have restarted the PS3 3 times, within the last day.

  • why is there an age limit?

  • because kids younger than 13 dont need to talk to adults

  • I don’t know if this is going to be read, or if this is even the place to do it, but I’m taking part in the Home open beta and I want to share with you what would make Home better!

    1. I want to be able to get up, move around and find a seat for myself in the Home Theatre Auditorium(s).

    2. Furthermore, I’d like to be able to go IN shops rather than just choose my selection off a list that pops up at the door.

    3. I’m not one for buying things with real money on things like this and MGO, so I’ll probably steer clear of the shops for as long as home will exist, but to entice more people in there you could offer free things at the store aswell, so it’s like 50% free things in a shop and 50% payable, for example.

    4. sending people into instances when they start bowling, playing arcade games or playing snooker. it’s damn annoying queueing up.

Now, I can’t think of any more, but if anyone of importance reads this, could you please take my points into consideration? thanks! I know it will take a while, but I’ll be patient and not complain. honest. :D

  • It took me a few tries last night but i got on and had no issues.

Wow so many people were on and the new central plaza ia great.

Any idea how many people logged on last night SONY?

  • free stuff will start coming. wait till next week

  • I couldn’t get in for over two hours last night but I eventually got in and stayed for a couple of hours! It was more fun than I expected however it will need a lot added for me to want to visit often.

The handheld device and all of its features was pretty cool, I’d like that in other games to be honest. Being able to “call” a friend that is online while I’m playing Killzone 2 while he is playing inFamous would be pretty sweet.

  • Finally tried Home… not impressed.

  • I’m not sure if this is a bug or not, but it appears that HOME is blocking ALL subaccounts instead of just subaccounts under 18 or 13. I have adult subaccounts that get rejected with underage restriction notifications when trying to log into HOME.

    Please fix this. Thank you!

  • I love home so I just wanted to give some friendly criticism.

Please put out more shirts and don’t make the video/music player too expensive. I think $1 or less per stick of furniture would be a good deal.

  • currently it is not a bug… ALL subaccounts are blocked from accessing home

  • sony HOME is great. i have very few complaints. i think this application/game/social tool will do everything it set out to do. congrats.

    ;;;IDEAS;;;
    -bigger arcade
at least twelve lane bowling and more pool tables would be nice. the mini game itself is greatly executed tho!

-great idea to move the chess out of the arcade, but only three tables is kinda frustrating to wait for.

-how about boardgames for the apt/house? thats a great way to spice up those spaces for when people stop by. UNO, MONOPOLY, SCRABBLE, ETC…i think people would pay for those games…i probably would if they werent too expensive

  • but all in all sony, ur doing a great job. im sure more stuff will open up soon…and i today can proudly say that this is a great achievement for u guys. i love it.

  • Um, I can’t even find the Home icon under the PSN section of the XMB.

  • Got onto Home last evening, the only thing I have to say is Wow. It will be a different experience once I get a headset. Went to all of the various scenes, very well done Sony. Purchased a summer home and started working on it. Unbelievable control for being able to place things exactly where you want them.
Played a game of pool and then went to bed. A great start, looking forward to all there is to come.

  • I could get in on my master account but not my sub account. It says I am not old enough on my sub account which really blows because that is the account I use for all my gaming. Any body having the same issue.

  • First I would like to thank Sony for their continued investment in the playstation experience. Unlike some of the other ungrateful haters here, I am thankful for the company at least trying to continue to evolve the system since most of us paid upwards to $500 dollars for it. My experience last night was great; I truly enjoyed interacting with people from all over the county and having positive conversations. I did run into some racist and over sexually things, this makes me question the 13 year old age limit. Now, I am not one for censorship, because I believe adults should be allowed to do what ever they please with their free time. But I would like Sony to at least move the age limit to 18 if such language and this amount of freedom will be allowed. Again, I look forward to jumping back on tonight and I hope Sony will continue to be the leaders of the industry.

  • Please create some more African American hair choices other then an Afro please! Can I please get a fade or a low cut with some waves

  • Sorry Sigma2die4, they don’t take black people into consideration when they make games at all. Have you eveer noticed that EVERY single main character in a video game is white? I’m surprised they know enough about us to include an afro in the hair selection.

  • On a completely different note, does anyone know how to change the picture that is displayed by your posts? I can’t find out for the life of me.

  • LOL ^^^^^^^ you right bruh! I could not even find the right skin tone for my avatar, either had to choose from crunchy black or just white. Oh well, can’t ask for it all.

  • I really enjoyed my experience with Home. I was using a female avatar because I am female myself, I started getting many males asking where I was from and surrounding me. Even though Home is there to make friends and all. There should still be a point where people should give others their space. Its kind of flattering to have males surround you and all but its a little to creepy when you just stand there for a couple of minutes by yourself and then you are surrounded by a group of guys and asking stuff and requesting you as a friend, its a little to much for comfort.

Sorry for all that ranting but its more about a matter of privacy and respect for others.

  • TuffyGirOcelot, yeah i noticed the same thing yesterday. Must be a bunch of nerd losers who most likely are not given the time of day by girls in real life. lol. Sad.

  • I want be to say HOME is a good idea or bad idea until I buy a HEADSET.

  • hee hee I knew I wasn’t the only. :D

  • @871 – omegacerebro.

If you’re talking about the gravatar on this blog, it’s a feature at (I’m gonna put this in different than a link, as that always hold up the post).

  • My EU account’s home gives networking errors but my USA account’s home doesnt and i can occasionally log in and play? So far i’m impressed, the beta doesnt have half the cool stuff promised. I cant wait for the trophy rooms etc. My recommendation to sony is dont charge money for content, charge trophys (So u can trade ur trophys for content),that way people will buy games with trophys in them and you’ll make money instead of putting people off home

  • Had some fun on home last night, nice work Sony I like the improvements so far from the closed beta. Its nice to see the blog has calmed down, Wow yesterday was crazy.

  • i cant wait to try home out when i get home in a couple hours

  • Now I am getting an error….

  • Blargian: Trading trophies doesn’t make much sense, unfortunately. A better idea would just to put ads in the game. Like billboards, posters, product placement, etc. Something that’ll blend in and seem like part of the scenery, not annoying pop-ups or ad bars across your screen :).

  • Something else they could do is implement a credit system on top of the ads. So depending on how much time you spend in Home you gain a certain number of credits that can be spent on items at the store. Maybe set it up so you gain credits by playing arcade games and such. Maybe throw in a casino so you can gamble your credits :).

  • Awesome. How did you guys pull this out? I mean I’m surprised not to see 1 million people on the bowling alley. How did you sort this out?

  • Not really sure what to think about Home. When i first logged in i found it to be pretty cool. The graphics are pleasing and the bowling was fun. But is this really Sonys answer to Xbox live ? I own a PS3 so im no Xbox fanboy, but really come on Sony. After running around Home for an hour i just wanted to kill people running up to me with innane questions. I realise this is early days for Home and that Sony have implemented lots of stuff for “the future”. The downside to this for me is Sonys idea of the future has turned into an over complicated dolls house when it should be a simple way of matchmaking and communicating with friends. On Xbox Live i can download what i want with a couple of clicks while chatting with friends without someone in France dancing in front of me ! As for the service being free, well its kinda free. Paying for a chair or a table is out of order and a waste of money. If these items were given out as trophies it would make more sense and encourage people to play online more.

  • Holy Sh*&^! 886 comments!

I just wanted to know if the sub-account are going to be able to login in the future? I have my master account, but my three brothers can’t get into Home since (according to the error) “they are not old enough”, but one of the is already 18yo. What gives!?

  • Hmmmm… maybe some more beta testing wouldnt have gone a miss, nothing worse that releasing something that dont work.

  • Nice I have had closed beta for a few months now and now I can finally play with my friends. Play$tation i$ the Be$t!!!

  • if any one still dont see the home icon make sure you are not downloading a demo or anything pause it and restart should come up

  • Last night while running around in PS Home I saw someone with a Stormtrooper outfit on. Where would one find one of those? And or there other cool specialty outfits like that avalible?

  • Great start Sony…. thanks. I only have three request;

    1. I can’t get back into my apartment; download error.
    2. I brought a new condo or villa, but can’t find it.
    3. I brought a new set of duds, but can’t find it.

Where is the stuff you buy, downloaded to???

I really think Sony should think BIG and maybe open
a Sony Home in Vegas; that looks like the online version,
where people can go on vacation to meet their avatars
in person or virtually, wearing a set of virtual glasses and
using a PSP3 remote to interact. I think real Sony Home
communities should spring up in many cities, for people
to hang out; either online or in person, as a part of social
networking. It definitely has potential to bring people
together. The song; ‘Come together’, says it all.

  • Or as an adjunct to DisneyLand/World. We have to
get people talking again and a mix of online avatars,
with real world interaction, will open up new frontiers
in community cooperation for social networking and help solve world problems, making it fun and interesting at the same time. A nexus of ideas and dealings, to further humankind and help us evolve into something better.

  • Still waiting for Home to show up on the XMB…any Canadians on Home yet?

  • Hey…where do I make suggestions on what you should add in home?, if its here, here is a few things…

    – In the bowling alley, the echochrome posters above the lanes should be scoreboards so that people that are waiting to play will know what frame the people playing are at.

    – In the bowling alley, the arcade machines should have leaderboards. Really all the mini games should have leaderboards

    – maybe rotate the arcade games every so often

    – add some prizes to the train arcade game

    – add some music in the bowling alley, since everyone doesn’t talk, it ends up being so quiet there…well really most places

    – maybe add the ability to jump

    – this is a longshot, maybe you could let people watch movies in the theatres presently, and have them pay some type of admission price. This seems like another good use for the theatre

i guess thats it for now other than the obvious add more games and spaces and clothing stuff that will likely come with time….

    Thanks for reading

  • Hey Jack, I love the TRON avatar! :-D

  • very nice, i know a lot of people are complaining about it but

    1) it’s not a game
    2) it’s still in beta

I thought it was great and has so much potential. I will probably be using it often for games and just to chat/meet people. It looks great too. Well, at least better than I expected it to look. Can’t wait for the stores to be fully stocked with goodies, and to see more game spaces.

  • playstation home is the best and the shopping centre is amazing i have an idea for playstation home designers who are reading this comment. create a shop or a map that replaces the playstation store it would make it more interesting and fun and better then the normal playstation store. you could make it look like a real game store with all the demos and ps1 games u could buy on racks and game cases on them that represents the game demos

  • To bad I cant play it, I lost my ps3 remote and now I’m begging my friends to borrow there’s.

  • Im getting that server problem again

  • help cannot log into home on my playstation 3 it says connection error c-931 what does that code stand for thanks paul

  • I want to congradulate sony on their hard work…You did it!!! As of last night I am no longer homeless! I cant wait to see future developments!
