“Sack it to me” – The Holiday Edition

Mark Valledor's Avatar + Posted by Mark Valledor on Dec 19, 2008 // Marketing Manager, SCEA

Well, lots of big news this week – Spike videogame awards, the official LBP YouTube channel, this awesomely crazy tank, a few small announcements last night, and now something you’ve all been waiting for…the Holiday Edition of “Sack it to me“.

LBP festive photo

Some of you may have noticed, but the patches over the past few days address a lot of the feedback we’ve been discussing on our weekly post. So without further adeu…’the patch details’ for your convenience.

Patch 1.06

Moderation
Good news on this front – The latest update (1.06) brings in some much requested changes to LBP’s moderation system. While the rules of what is and is not acceptable content for people to share have not changed, we have listened to your feedback and have made the following changes :

  • Moderated levels will now receive more better information about the reason regarding this action having happened.
  • The notification message will remain in place on screen, removing the chance that affected users miss the message.
  • Any moderated level can now be accessed for editing by the creator, whether on or offline.
  • Additional information is now displayed on the Good Grief screen advising users on how the grief reporting functions, and warns against making spurious reports

These changes, coupled with additional work behind the scenes should alleviate most of the issues that creators have experienced with the moderation system, and there is more to come in the new year. While the number of levels that have been moderated is less than 0.1% of the number that have been created and shared overall, we recognize that better communication is essential and we’ll continue to improve the system in response to your feedback.

An explanation of what constitutes unacceptable content to be shared can be found in the game’s End User License Agreement (EULA) which may be read at any time via the Settings menu in the game, however we recommend you follow these general guidelines :

  • Ensure that the content you share with other users is suitable for all ages – everybody has access to your level if you publish it.
  • Please respect other people’s intellectual property rights. For example, don’t use images, brands or logos that you’re not entitled to use.
  • If you come across any content that you feel the need to report, then please do it responsibly. Hoax reports will be considered inappropriate behavior.

Patch 1.07

New Search Modes:
Huge update on this end. We’re introducing more ways to find interesting levels! Not only can you search by the ‘most hearted’, but with the new ratings, you can also find the ‘highest rated’ as well as the ‘busiest’ levels online. So your input when playing other peoples levels will be even more important, so help us, make these search categories a great destination for the community. So “heart” away to those who deserve them, keep awarding those stars and keep commenting to help make peoples levels better. Also, keep in mind that this is just one update to improve the SHARE experience, and there will be more in the future.

“Wheel of Death” bug = FIXED:
The dreadful issue with speeding motorbolts and flinging Sackboys has been looked at, analyzed and corrected. So fling away!!!

In-game store:
Now you can browse and download costumes, level packs, etc, directly from the Pod. Check out the latest costumes and packs on the store and revisit all of your purchases.

Improved peripheral support:
USB keyboards now work and there is broader support for 3rd party controls.

Details, details, details:

  • Fixed stretchy Sackboy arms animation
  • Improved the corner editing tool
  • Tweaked some Sackboy animations
  • Adjusted Sackboy Slap sensitivities – so less accidental slaps
  • Fixed lights (object) to permanently remember color change
  • Improved online multiplayer level selection
  • Ability to save you level to a different slot on the moon while mid-edit
  • General server improvements
  • Misc visual fixes

—————-

That’s it for this week (sorry, the holiday crunch and all the other big LBP announcements this week kept us busy), but keep chiming in and we’ll try to get more answers to you.

Glad to see all the fixes. Me and my friends played together for the first time the other day. The servers used to suck but now almost no lag at all. Thank you so much. Just will have even more fun with online build mode.

ps. Will buy those metal gear packs first day. I want that paint gun.

Here’s one idea that might be tricky to do, but I really think it would be interesting:

What if you could put a certain number of Sackboys in your created levels, to act like computer enemies or allies, maybe…
I think that wouls be awesome to have them in your level, but not doing anything really complicated, and acting like the normal enemies in the game, that can be destroyed.
You see, in levels that it would be interesting to have Sack-Enemies, people normally uses the sackboy shape to an object and just make it lethal. But just looks… rubbish…
I think the game would have much more life

The online component to this game needs to be fixed, it’s entirely unwieldy and whether or not something works or not feels totally serendipitous–Warhawk 32 player online works for me with no lag, yet this game can’t handle 4. If it’s because of the higher quality of the graphics, then you clearly have redundant data being transmitted between PS3s since all the level information is already on individual consoles. Fix it please.

there is one thaing i thank you should look in to. that is the check- point need to respawn thr eara to the right of it. i have a leve that i made that has a cool pick the right playsation to put the disce in. one is the right one and let you contenu the other two will blow the hole eara up. the problem is if you pick the wrong one you can not go no ferther becuse the eara dose not respawn. i did not want too take the ieda out so i left a note that if you pick the wrong one you hav to restart the lvl. now i thank pl don’t play it becuse of that. butt if i could put a respawn eara check point in then if they pick the wong one. they just respawn and try anther one and not have too restart the lvl and i don`t have to chang ideas like that so they can keep going. see if the contaption gets destoyed the player will be forced to restart lvl.

p.s. thanks verey much love the game love the new pack i well get it
the lvl is LBC1 playstation3 coming home ceck it out and you well see what i mean thanks !!!!!!!!!!!

I don’t know if MM reads this but I’ve found that the space you’ve allowed us for saving community objects is unrealistic. I mean if you play a couple community levels you have no choice not to collect all sorts of crap you dont want. Then you have to constantly erase items or be plagued with a dummy message at every fricken check point. So I suggest either give an option to accept peoples items or let us take advantage of our mandatory hard drives. Thanks in advance

#56 that a cool idea but thank about that. what the point to make a game that you came make your own lvl. if they put in the game stuff like that. when you can not make stuff like that. it defets the the reson too make your own stuff the point is too make it.they are doing what they need to by giveing everyone the stuff it take to make the lvl. more thaings to make lvls with should be there mane consern.with the new pack it looks like they see this too.

There seems to be a sound effects glitch after the new patch. Did not hear the kissy noise when hearting a level or the quick bleep when toggling through levels. The scoreboard noise at the end of levels doesn’t seem to be working, either… :( ??

Could you make the grid in Create mode consistent throughout the level? Sometimes object don’t seem to line up correctly when I switch from no grid to small grid and leads to moving object to completely destroy a level.

+ CrowGraves on December 19th, 2008 at 11:10 pm said:

Well, not necessarily, since there’s a lot of premade objects and stuff, and you somewhat need to “create” your sackboy, with this enemies it would be the same.
Or maybe, they culd just give the pieces, like arms, legas, torso and heads, and was up to the player create all the movements and behavior

I mean, I’ve played some Metal Gear based levels, and it’s really ugly to see those enemies… you don’t feell like facing enemies, but just eletrefied blocks, and that’s all
When I saw the news on the Metal Gear Solid official pack, I really start thinking how awesome it would be to create a level and put sack enemies using the Gurlockvich Soldiers Costume. You would feel like really facing a foe and not a piece of wood with stickers…
I know there’s alot of creative enemies in some levels, but this is when they’re monsters and such. The levels where the enemies are sackboys too, it’s just really frustrating to see…

@9

Agree please bundle them together for 9.99. 11.98 is silly, got to remember your not the only thing on the system. If someone gets a 20 dollar card for the holiday, why would they get that and then be stuck with $8? It would be a better idea to just grab two 10 dollar titles.

+saving pod decorations (similar to costumes)

+pop-it organisation >(playing through the single player the more you collect the more scattered it gets) – as well as the My Objects Page. >>>reordering items

+pop-it navigation >
a quicker way to move up and down through items
=page up/down or bump to the next categorgy w/ L2/R2

+increase in profile size capacity

IMPORTANT!!!!!
But you guys also fixed one thing which didn’t need it and all of the players I played with are now complaining. It means you moved bubbles when someone is speaking and now sometimes it’s hard to see what a person is sayin (when he is near to the edge of the screen). What’s more, when there are a couple of dead sachboys its impossible at all to know who is speaking (no name in bubbles). FIX IT AGAIN!!!!! PLEASE!!! Previous bubbles were a lot better.

Hmm, great update! But im still missing LISTS (youtube-styled lists) with neat rows of name/mostplayed/date etc. Its a hassle moving around on the planet trying to find levels.

I would suggest just having a “VIEW AS LIST” option on each toplist for control freaks like myself :)

Besides that this game is so much fun and im looking forward to get my snake on!

I’m glad the moderation aspects of LBP are finally getting an overhaul. I’m also super happy for the new search options. I have to say it makes playing created levels enjoyable once again. I was tired of looking through pages trying to find a good level. Brings the fun back to playing user created content…thanks for the update,

I’d Like to see update would be a way to Type with our “USB Keyboards” and “NEW Wireless Sony Offical Bluetooth Keyboards” to make it like how we type in PlayStation@HOME were its jut a typing line at the bottom of the screen.

To add a HOME Little Big Planet Level also.

Launching LBP from HOME.

To add “ONLINE LEVEL CREATING”

Other then these updates I like to see its all I have for now.

Also the never ending question regarding the 1080i issue, please make it happen before the Christmas, thanks you MM for all the good stuff you are doing.
