  • @ 99 stop thinking of yourself . 1 your money on your mic will not be a waste you can still talk to your friends at home 2 your mic can still be use for other games also what about the peoples who just want to walks around and see there friends and you come walking in there conversation what about there rights or do we care about your ? do we worry about a few or everone? pick one side .

  • Public voice chat ideas.
Maybe only allow voice chat when playing a game. Example if your playing pool then it becomes active, if you quit then it goes back to mute. Still using the same r1 button of course.
Another idea is to have something like voice chat request almost like add a friend.
Just something to think about :) thanks all

  • smart move imo. i can’t stand the people who are constantly yelling through their mics. drives me bananas!

    peace,
    Lh

  • So wait, I can’t talk to my personal friend while I am playing pool? Or when we are bowling? WOW, this is a reason for me not to ever go back into HOME until game launching comes out. Bad move SONY.

  • u know we want it sony but u wont give it to us. also the mic spamming never happens to me. i never here 8yr olds and crappy rap music. u ppl are delirious. plz stop making us DL all the locations agan :( and give me back my echochrome suit u bastards :D i miss my robot like features :(

  • Well done but there really isn’t a lot to keep me on using Home. Needs more.

  • i dont see any pro for haveing voice chat everwhere in home just con like listening to everone talk at the same time or hear music playing off someone mic (all music not just rap) hearing someone disrespect female racist remarks . sony do not what my space is going through now do anyone see the news here? if you want voice chat everwhere then sony must raise the age limit 2 do background check and criminal check on all ps3 users .

  • @ 103 it wont solve both problem

  • i been in home since the closed beta and yes we had a few buttheads but nothing like what going on now there are way too many to report and this would had never happen if sony raise age limit do background check and criminal check sony you must do these things for everone at home and for home to work.

  • I fully agree with #48, EvoAnubis.

Bring back voice chat in all public spaces. Putting people on the mute list is not nearly as time consuming or frustrating as typing words on a mini-keypad while wearing an expensive and high-quality headset.

It is a disgraceful move to remove the one redeeming feature of Home; effortless social interaction.

  • Thanks for the info

  • 1 make it so to have 1 sony account 2 before a ps3 users can go into home sony must do a background check of the user and do criminal check . 3 anyone under 16 will have to have parents consented 4 anyone under 16 will not be allow in rooms that are not there age range 5 have more mods available in spaces . then you can open voice chat everwhere problem solve people .

  • Hope you can now mute loud music-lovers and violent people.

  • @113

You could already do this before. Simply press Select and add the person to your block list. It’s as simple as that.

  • I’m just starting to believe Home is a failure. Sorry, Sony but you guys have messed this one up. Beta or Not, the only reason you guys released it was to compete with NXE…

    I’ve been a PS fan since ps1.

  • Cool thanks. I have been using the phone call function and it works great. It will be nice to be able to talk to everyone in my HOME space again.

  • Submit to a background and criminal check? I’m sorry but I don’t think so. Although, I have nothing to hide, I’ve never been in trouble for anything; this is not the answer. Home is not a job where sensitive information and materials are handled. Do you want to drug test me too?

  • hey…can you guys make a firmware update so that my PS earpiece works better with my PS3?

it works perfectly when it’s on but every time i put it in the usb charging stand it disconnects and i have to manually reconnect it under settings to get it to work again.

    thanks.

  • I want full voice chat, limited voice chat is a joke.

  • @ 117 when people say they have no problem with background check they general do as for your second question no home its not a job but background check do not only apply to job. i guess you dont have no ideal that there sick people out and i dont know know about you but when you have kids and sick people together that normally means problems and are you going to be the one people go after when something happen ? no .

  • Limited voice chat, seriously? That sucks.

BTW I’d hate to see some of you guys in a real mall or something, telling people to stop talking to each other…

  • when you hear people say they have no problem taking a background check but they have problem taking it that a red flag that he or she have problems in there background . if you dont have any questionable issues then what the problem ? if you never committed a crime then what the problem checking on it ? yeah i here you my friend .

  • @ 121
In a real mall, people aren’t shouting racial slurs at the top of their lungs or harrassing every woman they see. This change was probably for the better. You want to talk, invite them back to your space or phone a friend.

  • @122
The problem with this is that background checks don’t root out immaturity.

  • There’s a simple, common solution to the issue of public voice chat. It’s one that is WIDELY used in the computer security field and is generally seen as the best practice. I urge Sony to seriously consider this, as it’s a simple and intelligent approach.

Disable voice chat by default. If people want voice chat in public areas, they can then go ahead and enable it. If, in the private “sandbox” area of personal spaces, Sony desires to have voice chat turned on by default, that’s acceptable (but in reality, it should be turned off by default there, too.)

This sets everyone’s expectations appropriately — voice chat is an added benefit, not a common annoyance.

Oh, and I really came here to comment about the continued lack of ability to save earned items (e.g., my Echochrome outfit) and furniture in club houses. I’ve noticed that several others in this thread have mentioned it, too. I hope this/these bug(s) is/are getting higher priority, because it’s really annoying to have an empty clubhouse, and I’ve spent well over an hour learning this the hard way (and continue to expend effort and time to check the problem out with each sw update.)

  • @124 no it wont rule it all out but its a start and its better then what they sony doing now and that nothing everone here need to think about everone who use home and not themselves .

  • well i dont have mic, but sometimes i was LMAO from other people’s conversation xD….. but really i believe they should leave it is it was…. then again if we report all the people that swear, and are stalking female’s…… i think we would see very very very few people in home xP lol

  • @123 Yes, I understand all of that. And you can assume all you want about the background check. I’ve had this all done for the job I am currently employed. I don’t feel an “Entertainment system” needs that kind of information. There are sick people in Home, there are sick in real life, MySpace, Facebook, etc. I didn’t have to submit to any kind of check other than verifying my email. It’s just my opinion, and I personally would not use the service if that was the case. Also, I have 2 kids and wouldn’t let them near Home. Home should honestly be made 18+ or have seperate servers for minors. Unfortunely, you’re not going to be able to weed all the bad ones out.

  • @ 128 1 i saied it wouldn’t weed them all out and it wouldn’t solve the problem there no 1 simple way to solve this . 2 i love how people put cute label on something so it can sound harmless like the word entertainment wow that rich . 3 like i saied before background and criminal check do not only apply to the workforce please do some kind on research . if you or anyone else do not have a problem with checking yourself as well as others then what the problem unless you have a problem also just because you dont allow your kids in home dont mean that there are no kids in home plus when your gone to work or something who to say if your kids wouldn’t be in home? once again stop thinking about yourself and think about everone who uses home. do you want to take a chance with your kids and others kids ? hoping they dont get in contact with the wrong people ? i dont know you but i wouldn’t want that to happen to your kids or anyone else .

  • Home has become nothing more than a train wreck of a product that simply want fulfill advanced users’ needs, and these were the people who had hoped to get the most out of Home.

There are no Picture Frames coming, if you try to message admins about it, instead of being even nice enough letting you know they can’t tell you the status, they simply delete your message. If you guys at Sony think that this is a satisfying solution to Mic Support, you’re heavily mistaken. If you can’t figure out how to do it right publicly, then if nothing else do a party system. If you can’t do that, your Mic Support is laughable at best compared to competitors. I’ll come back in 6 months and see if Home is actually worth logging into.

  • In my opinion this will make things to quiet and possibly boring. Yeah there are some idiots on Home, but there have been a few conversations that I’ve just hung around to listen too. Now things seem so desolate with just the text writing.

  • chriscowboyd, Home is no place to enforce background checks on users. That would fee like an invasion of privacy for some of us. I understand wanting to protect children, however, it’s not Sony’s job to hold everyone’s hands throughout everything to make sure nobody gets their feelings hurt or are offended. Just like with the normal internet, it should be up to the parents to ensure their kids are not being exposed to anything they do not approve of.

  • So this means all the voice features we had before the 1.04 update has returned?

  • @128it’s easy to say i give up , we cant weed them all out you know why ? because there are just some people out there that quit too fast . background check can be the start of something in making home safe for everone and can have others ideas added on it . look at the news sometimes you see the mess myspace into why dont you tell that family who lost there love one oh hey its just entertainment …tattod

  • Im sorry to say, that this is hilarious. I dont mind cutting the voice-schat, I don’t use it in general but more in private spaces and in the clubs – BUT.. the Club system is still down – and the tools for making joining a club an experience are totally lacking – notihing apart from som furniture, ducks etc. kan be put in, and we cap post 4 messages on the bulletin boards, as long as they are not too long…

it’s a joke, and a very sad one indeed – even though it is a beta – but the state the Home Europe is in, have been the same as the beta for the last 6 months.

SCEE we cannot take you guys seriously when you just keep quiet . . and solve one thing, leaving voicechat only for the club system (which do not work) and in appartments (which is also a boring place to gather).

Content guys – give us opportunity to buy pooltables, arcade machines, put up pictureframes with upload abillity of short videos, or screens… at least give us an opportunity to help the community-feel spread, both in clubs within Home, and in general in Home.

  • Background check is a bit much. What’s next, a credit check?

The bottom line is that if Home wasn’t crawling with racists, pedophiles, and 30 year old losers sitting in their parent’s basement trying to act “cool” and insult and harass women, there would be no need for this.

I do think that the “phone friend” feature now needs a party system so you can chat with multiple people, or that public voice chat should be enabled where you can chat with friends only. Otherwise, good riddance.

[[then again if we report all the people that swear, and are stalking female’s…… i think we would see very very very few people in home xP lol]]
And if we don’t report them, they will be all that is left in Home once everyone with an ounce of maturity has moved on.

  • So a bunch of [DELETED]’s ruined the public spaces of Home. Why not just police Home better? Actually check into reports being sent by users.

Sorry but I would much rather talk then type while in Home.

Thanks for limiting people with common sense.

  • terrible decision sony. you should have left General voice chat disabled. idiots hold down the r2 button and blast music to disrupt everyone…sony is obviously run by teenagers that love hearing themselves make noise.

disable general voice chat, give us a conference call type of thing to allow voice chat with PEOPLE YOU WOULD ACTUALLY WANT TO SPEAK TO AND HEAR.

  • well, i want to speak to and hear whomever i want.

that means bring back full voice chat.

i’m in full agreement with #135 too, the clubs are a joke. i can only post 4 messages on the bulletin boards, the messages can only be 50 characters long, my furniture disappears every time i log out.

i paid $5.62CDN for this? it’s an absolute joke and i had better be reimbursed for their insolence in the very near future.

  • HOME just took one MASSIVE step backwards. But like I’ve always said, Sony is run by a bunch of cowards who should never have tried to develop a product like HOME.

HOME needs to be championed by a company with guts and vision and intelligence. Not a bunch of nervous nellies who pull the switch on everything if there’s even the slightest chance of negativity.

  • I agree with #125. Make it off by default and have those of us who want it be able to turn it on.

  • and add an edit option to the blog…

It’s so annoying that you cannot correct errors; they’re always only noticed after posting it seems.

  • also, wheres the echochrome gear i earned? why would you remove users’ earned clothing? id like all of that returned to me, other people i know would also like the rewards they have earned returned to them.

also, disable voice chat and use the ideas posted here to come up with a solution, speaking only to friends, like was mentioned…general voice chat is a terrible idea. after supporting sony for most of my consuming lifehood, im one consumer that is about to jump ship.

  • I’m gonna have to go with Evo on this one. People can turn the feature off if they don’t like it. Let everyone else enjoy it. And make it off by default. Also, I’m pretty sure it was said before that they originally turned it off because the bandwidth required was killing the servers, not because a bunch of whiney people complained too much.

They need to add some more options settings like automatically turn voice off when watching a movie or playing an arcade game.

Oh, and a background check? Are you serious? Why don’t we require a reality check for people to post on this blog, lol. Even if background checks were completely free and required absolutely no time or effort for sony to implement such a feature, the amount of privacy and legal issues involved would prevent sony from ever even considering it. Right now, credit card age verification is the most realistic way to separate the different age groups, and even that would frustrate thousands of people who either don’t have credit cards or don’t want to give their credit card info to sony.

  • Please bring back voice chat in all public spaces.

  • I hope that voice-chat will be returned to what it used to be. Home is a social area for players. They (we) should be allowed to socialize. If someone is annoying, I can mute them or send in a reportif they are causing trouble.

I find using voice-chat very convenient when playing pool or bowling. I would rather concentrate on my game than having to rush-type out a message.

As for having voice-chat only available in our private spaces or club houses… Well, I will only invite Family over to my “home” and I am currently part of a club.

Please, bring back voice-chat as it was originally meant to be used. However, DO stress that people who are obnoxious, rude or being bad can be reported for their misbehavior. Thank you.

  • yea with out voice chat Home is boring i would rather go back to the closed beta. it was funner then, then it is now. who have time to sit and type during a one on one of pool or bowling. you get half way in your sentence its your turn. (conspiracy) i think Sony did it to make that KEYPAD get sales.
