  • I wish my ps3 loaded that fast when switching from site to site. ;)

  • To anyone who hasn’t got a PS3 yet…
    This is a ‘How To’…

    How To…have a Happy 2009’??…
    Buy a PS3!!! :P

  • My ps3 switches faster than that, gotta get express net for faster surf. HAPPY NEW YEARs!!

How to have a Happy 2009:
    1. Use my method of voice chat in home
    2. open the warhawk space
    3. Fix my ps3 for free even though it’s 2 months out of warrenty.
    4. More commercials advertising HOME
    5. Keep Jeff the Boss of the Blog!!(WE LOVE HIM)

  • Would be nice to get some more support for Internet radios. I can still access and play Slayradio on my Ps3 which is a shame :(

However it seems that the recent flash changes have brough up a whole new section of oportunities in this.

Grooveshark seems to be combatible with ps3 now.

  • Could we keep all the ‘how to’ to on day?

  • You guys should make a video on how to use home.

  • Boy, mister Eric L. seems to be having fun narrating these tutorials!

Next… PS3 How To: Video Chat!

  • Thank you SONY for the Flash support! Now if could only improve the Browser by making it more like Firefox… One can wish =]

Next… PS3 How to: Make your Sub folders to classify your psn, ps3 and ps1 games in their own folder. =]

  • I’ve noticed too that the browser seems to be really slow. That and I have to click links multiple times on occasion (especially in flash applications). I love having the browser, especially with the full screen flash working now, but it’s pretty difficult to use sometimes.

  • Hmm that Sony OLED TV is looking Pretty Nice it has like what a million to One contrast ratio?

  • These videos should just be uploaded on to each PS3 HDD when it ships. It would really help the noobs.

  • When can we expect Facebook to work properly in the browser?

  • I’m still waiting for the “How to play games on your PS3”.

  • It would be good if you could surf the net when using playtv! (you can surf whilst listerning to music, so why not have the option when you are listerning to the tv, or even as a split screen option, so you can lookup web pages that are being mentioned on the tv).

  • I would love to surf more on my PS3 if the browser was somewhat near good developed. It doesn’t follow standards and is kind of slow in every possible way :(

Sony should develop something with Mozilla (Firefox), Opera or maybe Google.

  • The PS3 browser never fails to irritate me when it ‘forgets’ that i have it set to ‘maximum size’. I have a widescreen tv and want to use that space. Its so annoying when you open a link in a new window only to have it reduce from ‘maximum size’ to the smaller square size.

Another annoyance is the ‘would you like to run this script’.

Things (among others) that cause me to not even bother using the browser. jumping onto a website shouldnt be tedious..and somehow it is with this browser.

  • hulu.com + ps3 web browser = who needs netflix?

  • These how-to’s are too top-of-the-ice-berg. At the very least, I would’ve expected this vid to go into how to open up and manage multiple tabs. Sheesh.

  • How to get BC for PS2 into the PS3 for disc and download?

BUILD AN EMULATOR!!!! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD I’M SICK OF MY FRIENDS GRIPING BECAUSE I’M THE ONLY ONE WITH A 60 GIG BECAUSE SONY TOOK AWAY BC!

  • I would of thought that the web browser didn’t need a how-to, guess I was wrong.

  • How About:

Full size bluetooth keyboard with mouse pad that fully replaces the PS3 controller. As of now there is no full size keyboard that simulates ALL of the button functions of the SIXAXIS/DUALSHOCK3 controller (i.e.: R3 = Zoom)

  • LOL, ONLY ON PLAYSTATION!!! Can U surf the web!!!! :D

  • I don’t know if it’s just my PS3, but in the past week or so, the internet browser has been SLLOOOOOWWW and unresponsive. I hate it.

  • All these How To videos should be made available on the PS store.

  • also, could you guys make the organization a little better for folders?
It would be nice so that we could view MUSIC folders by ARTIST, and then folders for ALBUMS…rather than a list of 80 songs. An “Edit Multiple” option needs to be implemented as well.

  • You CAN organize folders by artist, album or whatever you want. Just press triangle.

And make sure the info is properly input into the information section of the file.

  • I take it none of you actually read the comments left by us users. I still have a comment waiting moderation on the remote play how to.

Here’s a better how to for remote play

    boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=pspnet&thread.id=157377

    • We do read the comments…sorry I\’m just catching up now. I will try to figure out who I can reach out to get that taken care of.

  • Nothing to do with the article. But I would like it if u guys could make it so I can play music through my PS3 with my ipod TOUCH. thanks

  • @25, you are totally not comprehending what I said.

I want SUB-Folders. So we view a folder by ARTISTS, and when I click that I want to see seperate folders for ALBUMS, not a bunch of MP3 files.

  • Great that Sony has these video tutorials. It would be great if they were also on the PS3. As for the web browser please update it even further especially the java files.
Happy New Year to Sony and to all my PS3 gamers.

  • I’m not too sure about this one but i think anyone could figure out how to operate the web browser ;).

    peace,
    Lh

  • These are extremely elementary. Might as well release a video on how to turn the PS3 on. XD

  • @31: I was just gonna be a jerk and type that. :P

  • Now Sony just needs to can PS Home and put all efforts into a working Party System like the other system now has.

  • Here’s one thing (among many others) that requires correction in the current PS3 browser, without installing another OS:

when using a SD screen, it’s difficult to see. You must scroll around to see the pages.

I do have a 50″ 1080p, however, we should still have an option to conform to the Television type if desired.

Those who don’t use HD TV’s are forced to just deal with it, as far as I know.

Never really mess with this much, yet remember it being annoying prior to my big screen purchase. Many of my friends without larger TV’s complain about this regularly and I would just like to see that those unable to purchase the technology are still considered as important by the devs.

Someone here mentioned that SONY should work with another company(ex. Firefox) to develop a better browser. This is a wonderful idea!
The current browser is no where near suitable for every day use.
I never use the PS3 to surf for this very reason. Functionality is weak and too many irritating things like the “would you like to run this script?”
We need much more freedom when manipulating our surroundings in the OS… The PS3 is called a “Computer” Entertainment System… so make it one, in all aspects of the word.

  • P.S. – When are the blog devs going to add a “preview / edit” button for our posts already??
Not to mention… why did you make the images smaller >>>>
They are almost pointless now unless one has a 50″ monitor.
Advice if it’s not broken, don’t fix it.
Add things to improve, but don’t change the things that are fine already.

Also, don’t limit post length to such a small amount. It’s not like text takes up a lot of server space. I can understand the page size restrictions, but 1250 characters is too small.

Consider these revisions to greatly improve the quality of this site.

    Thanks!

  • The browser is pretty disappointing:

    1. On a page that has flash video or audio, the scrolling can be quite choppy — is the browser and flash running on a single SPU?

    2. Many, many sites do not work. Most of this is attributable to the fairly incomplete implementation of CSS and JavaScript, which reminds me of the old Blazer browser from my Treo. Until the PS3 browser can render the Acid2 test (http://acid2.acidtests.org) *AT ALL*, it’s not very useful. (Even IE7 renders *something* for acid2 — the PS3 doesn’t render anything at all!) These per-site fixes and hacks just draw out the bad impressions people get — fix the root of the problem and pass the test suites for these standards.

    3. Sony needs to get over their NIH syndrome and use at least one or two third party libraries to improve some of these features. Don’t like WebKit or Gecko for some reason? Use KHTML and/or KJS — it’s been passing acid2 for years and 4.2 currently scores higher on acid3 than Firefox 3.0, Safari 3.2, IE8 RC1, and Chrome!

  • I gave up long ago trying to browse the web with my PS3… With the frequent Freezes, abnormal items and what not… I have decided it’s easier to boot up my PC, and consider it the “gaming” console instead of the all-in-one unit…

Maybe soon it will be stable enough where my console doesn’t lock up… Until then Sorry!

  • The best uses for the web browser is pandora.com and hulu.com. Zoom by pressing the right stick.

    You’re welcome.

  • @38: ninjamasterdave…

Hopefully you were not referring to my post (#20) about the Zoom ability for a keyboard, because the only blue-tooth PS3 keyboard does not have analog sticks.

In case you were unaware; R3 button = pressing the right stick.

I want to have full browsing capability via keyboard WITHOUT requiring the PS3 controller to perform specific tasks.

  • The OS that the PS3 comes with is just really cool, i don’t understand why there’s lots of idiots that install Ubuntu yellow dog and stuff like that on it.

To the post #1 just get a faster internet connection man

  • 0:08AM In Central Europe and the Netherlands, so Playstation folks and all my PlayStation buddies, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!! 2009 PS3 is gonna ROCK N ROLL!!!!

  • @40 “Evildude”:

Actually the people who install Linux on their PS3s are far from “IDIOTS”. On that note; Only an idiot would think the solution for faster web browsing all boils down to just Internet speed.

  • The browser freezes ever time I clck on the “How to”video?”
There are far to many java script errors! SONY CAN’T even get their own websites to work with the PATHETIC PS3 browser!
Flash 9 was desperately needed, but without a JAVA update the browser won’t ever be useful.

SONY need to spend less time with silly PS3 features nobody uses or care about, and concentrate on one of the PS3’s TRUELY useful and practical features…the browser!

When a cell phone handles java apps BETTER than the PS3…?
Hang your head in shame SONY. There is no excuse for not having the browser up-to-speed in 2009 – it’s a JOKE!!! NetFront provide ALL the tools for their browser. How about you implement some of them?

The fact the PS3 browser gets stuck loading pages on the Official Playstation Forum website (and this website also has issues) is an example of the complete lack of thought and insight shown by SONY when designing the PS3…256MB RAM…???? A mobile browser necessitated by the 256MB of RAM, and NO thought given to the compatibility of the browser with SONY / Playstation websites, let alone any website.

For Heaven’s sake SONY, FIX THE D@MN BROWSER. Seriously!

  • The web browser lacks seriously…. I can’t see why Sony would say that its better than IE. They should look at Apple with the Iphone its the first phone to have a full blown web browser, Is Sony going to let Apple beat them to the punch? What if Apple releases a Console also I’d bet that it would have a full browser in it too.

  • The Browser needs to be overhauled to be more stable and crash less. It also needs to render faster.

  • SONY should be very worried about Apple. UMD needs to go the way of Betamax…it is not the way of the future…look at Apple how ALL their content is provided.
The ridiculous irony is that a video to show you how to use the PS3 browser doesn’t work with the PS3 on a dedicated SONY PS3 website!

Crazy! The PS3 needs to be marketed differently. The browser could (should) play a bigger role in what SONY claim is a “Multi Media Hub”.
Apple is very open…people love it. SONY are too restrictive (obsessive) about what their customers can and can’t do, and everyone resent them because of it.
Let the consumer decide what, how, when etc. Start with more video codec compatibility. Provide a full(er) browser and let us decide how we use it. LISTEN to your customers…more now than ever with SONY’ profits freefalling.
Give people what THEY want…like Apple is doing and watch the PS3s fly out the door.

If not; there will be no PS4. In its place will be an Apple console that is able to be configured how the consumer wants it. Including a BROWSER that DOES what people want.

  • It already supports more codecs than the other consoles. And how much more open do you want then letting you install a DIFFERENT operating system on it?

Install linux and you can use any damn browser that you want.

The browser works with southparkzone so I’m happy. There are up to 6 computers in this house at a time so I can use one of those for anything else :P.

And on top of that it supports just about any peripheral you have, webcams, mice, keyboards, headsets. My roommate even had some random generic USB controller that you can plug in and it works just like a PS3 controller(minus motion sensors or dual-shock).

And I prefer having my content on a disc I can buy, I don’t want to have to download everything after I pay for it.

I think they should make a new UMD format based on Blu-ray technology for the PSP2, that way it’ll have a much higher capacity.

  • All I want is having the RSX unlocked in linux and I’ll be happy.
