We at THQ have some great news for all of the PlayStation Blog readers out there. For the first time, the world’s leading fighting franchise will offer downloadable content starting in January 2009. Owners of SmackDown vs Raw 2009 will be able to download updated costumes and even new playable Superstars on their PS3 through PlayStation Network. SVR09 is already chalk full of new features such as the all-new Tag-Team Gameplay, the Create-A-Finisher mode, an all-new Highlight Reel mode and the first ever tag-team storyline. Not to mention, the 100+ match types and updated roster of over 60 playable characters. However, we didn’t feel that was enough. We are proud to announce the first roster update pack for the SmackDown vs Raw franchise. Check out the details for the first download pack below:

360 gets the exclusive GTA downloadable content the Lost and the Damned
PS3 gets santa costume DLC for wrestling ring girls(in January no less)?

Actually didn’t see there was other alternate costumes for wrestlers. Still not interested in wrestling, but its not just past-relevant holiday costumes so I’ll correct myself. :-)

It’d be nice of you guys fixed the gamebreaking glitches that are abused online.
You guys might want to balance up the gameplay too. Maybe also make it so you can’t just mash R2 to counter 80% of the time.

not really into wrestling but it’s good to see Sony getting back into the exclusives race.
it just feels good as a PS3 owner to know we’re the only ones with something. lol. completely selfish and childish maybe (haha we have it you don’t) but who cares.
i love the fact that only fellow PS3 owners can get Motorstorm, MGS4, LBP, Killzone, Buzz, Resistance etc. and they’re all INCREDIBLE games.

Yeah I bought it at Best Buy too for $34.99. I almost picked up the TNA Game over this one.
I saw the DLC being pushed and hoped that they would be patching in trophies for the game.
It seems like a no brainer if they really wanted to succeed on the PS3.

just a couple of questions, is there a specific date in january for the dlc ? also what other playable characters are you thinking of making and how many packages will there be ? you have got to consider the following, the brian kendrick’ vladimir kozlov’ manu’ r truth’ ezekial jackson’ jack swagger. now i would pay good money for them. love the knew jericho attire too. why is his entrance music not the same ?

this is great the fact that we get more superstars but instead of ted dibiase who is a legend and i thought legends werent on the game because of the legends of wrestlemania coming out what about vladamir kozlov he is currently one of the dominant superstars and he isnt on the game

The Ted DiBiase in the DLC is the legend Ted DiBiase’s son, not the legend himself. They just left the “Jr.” off the end of his name.

As much as I agree with you guys, (about Benoit) I highly doubt you will be seeing him or his moves in a WWE title any time soon. I would be shocked if he appeared in the legends of Wrestlemania title considering how the WWE organization treated the entire Benoit situation like the plague. A shame really because the crossface is my favorite submission move.

I have a question about some of the Superstars i WWE. What’s happend with stars like; Bobby Lashley, Hardcore Holly, Elijah Burke? Haven’t seen them in any of the WWE matches this year(also thinking of 2008).

Can’t speak about Hardcore Holly, but Bobby Lashley quit and is pursuing a career in mixed martial arts, and Elijah Burke I believe was released.
