PlayStation Around the Web: What We Read

Posted by Jeff Rubenstein // Social Media Manager

As you read this, I’m on my way down to LA for tonight’s SPIKE 2008 Video Game Awards. I strongly encourage you PlayStation fans to watch tonight, and not just to see what Kim Kardashian is wearing (though I’ll be happy to prepare a full report for anyone who requests it).

As announced earlier, we’ll be revealing never-before-seen God of War III and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves footage. Also, cheer on your favorite PlayStation games like LittleBigPlanet and PixelJunk Eden. Tomorrow, I’ll bring you reactions from those teams right here on the Blog.

In the meantime, please feel free to share your favorite reads of the week in the comments below. See you tonight!

alisound  |  December 14th, 2008 at 12:16 pm

anybody at sony care to comment on the mess that is home?

where are all the features you were touting earlier in the year? why cant we personalise anything, and where is all the content from earlier beta versions? 2 years for 5 sony spaces seems a little weak to me , and i’m sure a shed load of other users would agree.

aside from that well done in getting it out before christmas.

Although I’m glad to see some good buzz about Home, why is gamedaily using images that are super super SUPER old?

tirminyl  |  December 14th, 2008 at 12:47 pm

Great to have you back Jeff. Can’t wait to watch VGA tonight. Unfortunately, we have yet to receive Spike HD so I am sure I will be watching the unveiling’s online!

tirminyl  |  December 14th, 2008 at 1:02 pm

Jeff,

Here is a suggestion if you can get it to the proper people. I like that we are provided with the top 20 movie and tv downloads as well as the top 10 game downloads. Can we expand that and also receive the top 10 active games on PSN? We don’t need actual numbers of how many people are actually playing but many would like to know what the most popular games are that are being played online.

Thanks

IGN has a rather interesting HOME impression article. I encourage everyone to read it. Also… (probably more controversial) Penny Arcade has a comic and blog post about home..

IGN PlayStation wonders who can save the PS3. Remember, this is from the IGN PlayStation Team, the team that’s trying to show love to Sony, the team that got exclusive interviews from head honchos at Sony. If Sony execs would give these guys interviews, then their opinion

Sony talks PS3, PSP success in 2009. They also claim to be interested in ps2 downloads. Way to go Sony, take ps2 backwards compatability out only to try to find some way to put it back. This dualshock 3 like strategy is really annoying.

Square Enix was Interested in Final Fantasy XI on PS3. I guess if you have ps2 backwards compatability you can play it. It seemed like someone who left Sony is to blame.

Valkyria Chronicles largely ignored by U.S. Gamers.

November 2008 NPD hardware and software sales. 360 = 836,000. PS3 = 378,000. In November 2007 ps3 sold 496,000. It was a valiant effort, but I don’t think that PlayStation credit card will be of much help in December.

NPD Top 20 for November 2008. Little Big Planet is nowhere to be found. Makes me suspect it sold less in the whole month of November than it did for the few days of October. Only makes me sadder to see that Eight Days was cancelled for EyePet.

All this save the PS3 talk is redundant and ridiculous. No I’m not shooting the messenger. But I will laugh at your claims of 8 Days being REPLACED by Eye Toy Pet.

I’m tired of reading all the nonsense on the net about pretentious fanatics fighting fictitious console wars.

thanks for more update, F3aturePreacher

27

jbat17  |  December 14th, 2008 at 4:42 pm

@19 savage moon was pushed back!? that sucks. this is my most anticipated game for december. i was hoping i can play it all day on my xmas break.

jeff, you have a few articles listed there for persona 4. are you planning on playing that game, too? but where will you find the time?

28

lifeRPGs  |  December 14th, 2008 at 4:47 pm

Don’t miss out the UNCHARTED 2 and God of War III trailers tonight!!!!!

They both better be worth it, seriously. After the HAZE fiasco and the FFXIII “surprise” , i have learned to stop hyping anything. HEAVY RAIN is an exception though :p

29

F3aturePreacher  |  December 14th, 2008 at 4:58 pm

@alisound

You know what the answer to that is gonna be right? It’s a beta. I wonder if it will ever get out of beta. No matter, the important thing is that 2d home features consistently hit the xmb.

i agree one thing Sony let LBP flop and Christmas have even pass yet. it was next to nothing of LBP ad’s on TV. the reflection campaign was waste i seen like 2 commercials on TV like every 4 days. i see the Buzz commercials off and on.

32

EnigmaNemesis  |  December 14th, 2008 at 5:20 pm

GoW3 and Uncharted 2 … CANT WAIT.

I hope it is some in-game engine work for GoW 3 and not CG like the original!

33

PaNDaSHaT  |  December 14th, 2008 at 5:30 pm

Boo on the PixelJunk Eden patch for making the game easier. The best part of having 100% trophies in that game is because of the game’s difficulty.

34

AwRy108  |  December 14th, 2008 at 5:43 pm

Now just quit being stubborn and drop the PS3’s price so more people buy it!

schwaa  |  December 14th, 2008 at 7:24 pm

You people are the ones that create all the doom and gloom surrounding Sony. You heed the sensationalist media, who need a “failure” to report on, and feed these lies. STOP patronizing this garbage. STOP reading IGN, Kotaku, 1up, and all the other trash out there. Sony is doing just fine. Not being number one doesn’t mean you haven’t been successful.

Where is the God of War III Trailer!?

I was looking forward to see more of Kratos than anything else!
Come on, just reveal the video here in the PlayStation Blog.

I hate VGA 2008!; it was dumb.

the god of war 3 trailer we saw is that no one jaffe got to see n action i find it surprising son y picked to show off an early built of the game .

45

40cal  |  December 14th, 2008 at 8:56 pm

And yes we want a FULL HD version of the GOD OF WAR III trailer on the blog by the end of Monday. And on the PSN on Thursday.

Thanks :)

46

TRIX_BOL  |  December 14th, 2008 at 9:27 pm

@erico316 #40
Then why they annaunced that they were going to reveal a world wide God of War III Trailer?
Even Jeff annaunced it on this post. Check the 2nd paragraph of his post, which means they already have another trailer but don’t want to share it with us!

I agree with #41, if they don’t want to reveal it here. Than reveal it next thursday with the store weekly updates.

47

erico316  |  December 14th, 2008 at 11:22 pm

@trix if u read david jaffe blog as often as i do you know he said what they was going to to show at the vga was not the one they showed him!
second sony is very closed when it come to it first party games and they like to tease every1 with it until we get within a few months within launch

Will you stop reproducing the laughable articles payed by [DELETED] that try since PS3 was released to create an alternate reality where Sony died and Microsh$t rules? NPD= US only. Everyone with half a brain knows [DELETED] is losing billions since the first crashbox was released. [DELETED] simply doesn’t care. Their goal is to kill Sony not to make money. And LBP sold over a million already. As did Motorstorm: Pacific Rift. Sony with a system twice as expensive, released a year later is already ahead of [DELETED]worldwide. Finally, [DELETED] propaganda machine is everywhere. That includes PS3 specific sites like PS3fanboy.
