PS3 How To: Creating and Viewing a Photo Slideshow

Posted by Kristin Neirinckx // Marketing Manager, PSP

Hey everyone,

Happy Holidays! As you recover from food comas and setting up all of your shiny new toys, you might realize there is a lot you don’t know about the latest addition to your living room. So for those of you new to the PLAYSTATION 3 family (or for you old timers who want to learn more), we’ve put together a series of “How To” videos for a few of the key product features. These instructional videos take you through each feature, step by step. New videos will be posted each day next week, so you should all be experts by the end.

And we’re launching the first video right now — how to create and view a photo slideshow. So sit back, take a look and let us know how the slideshows come out!

How about a video where you show how you get your developers to actually make use of the ps3 firmware features such as ingame music, creating screenshots and capture video to upload to youtube and what not.

I’m not sure if anyone else has pointed this out, but you have an awesome avatar, Chris. Radiohead = love.

These short video tutorials should be included under a help section on the XMB. Perhaps on the next update you could include a series of them. I think it is essential since so many people do not fully understand all of the many cool things the PS3 can do.

A couple of feature request:

1: When quitting a slide show (pressing O), and returning to the list of photos, the currently selected photo should be the photo, which was last viewed in the slide show — not, as now, the photo where the slide show started from.

2: When pausing a slide show, it should be possible to zoom and pan the photo.

3: When browsing photo, a vertical scroll bar (similar to the one to the right of your browser window right here! =) should show a rough estimate of how many photo are available, and how many are shown. A discrete grey line of pixels to the most right of the screen, indicating the view, would be enough.

4: It should be possible to scroll a page of photos (PgUp/PgDn) or jump to the top/end (Home/End), e.g. with Square+Up/Dn and Hold Square+Up/Dn (Up/Dn being D-Pad Up/Down keys).

3 and 4 should apply for all types of media being browsed; photo, music, video, and games, and content on media servers as well.

Please comment =)

Why can’t the PS3 correctly extract dates from my pictures? It thinks they are all from the same time (1/1999 I think).

Ah yes, pictures from my Canon EOS 20D are not rotated correctly.
