New PlayStation.Blog Features On The Way

125 20

Here at PlayStation.Blog, we’re always looking to improve your user experience. I’m happy to announce that two often-requested features are nearly ready to be implemented: PSN sign-in and author comment-reply indicator.

The latter will be activated tomorrow morning (Pacific time). Whenever one of our authors replies to one of your comments, it’ll be indicated below the post. Clicking on this link will take you to the first reply in the comments list. This feature has been asked for by many of you over the last year or so, and I’m glad that our dev team was able to accommodate.

comment replies

The other feature, PSN sign-in, is a significant and important step in the evolution of the PlayStation.Blog. Because we want all of you to continue to communicate via comments, we’re not launching the feature quite yet, but consider this your metaphorical 2-minute Warning. If you don’t already have a PSN ID – now’s the time. It’s free, it’s useful, and it not only will work here, but across PS.com, as well as on the PLAYSTATION 3 and PSP.

If, and we know this applies to the vast majority of you, you’ve already got a PSN ID, the migration process is super easy. When the time comes (we’ll let you know), you’ll you’ll be prompted to merge your blog account with your existing PSN ID. It’s just that easy, and you’ll only have to do it once.

We believe this will contribute to a better community experience, and better, more targeted discussion here on the Blog. It also lays the groundwork for further enhancement to your user experience. When we’re ready to roll-out the PSN sign-on we’ll post a mini-FAQ to cover any questions you might have.

We hope you enjoy these new features – please let us know what you think!

  • Awesome!

  • Jeff – Is it ever going to be possible to change our PSN ID? I would gladly pay for it at this point, because I made mine in haste when i first got my PS3 and now I’m really tired of it. I understand you don’t want to make it too easy, because then people will just be jerks to people knowing they can change their names every week, but we need SOME form of name change service, even if it has a fee or you can only do it once a year or something.

  • Great new features, but please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please… can we have new avatars on the PS3… please!

    I did ask nicely!

  • thank you Jeff.

do we have a gobal playstation store and playstation network account someday?

why do people have to make diferents account to have access to the playstation stores?.

if some game or content it is not compatible,
for any region only have to advert “this game it is only for scea or scee etc…….

    thank you, regards and sorry.

  • I have two questions:

    1. Dose this mean the blog will now be readable, and allow us to post comments for the PSP system?

    2. Is there any word on when the PSP website will be back online? The PS Store is nice but we currently have no way as of now to get news without coming here every day on our PCs before work.

  • Hey, Jeff im very excited about these new Blog features, but i’ve got too requests if at all possible.

    1. Integrate all new Blog Posts into the PlayStation 3’s information board seeing as it is a RSS feader.

    2. Whats the news on the new PlayStation.com features that where promised before the years end, back in an old blog post. We received part 1, but part 2 is still missing.

    Thanks
    SpookyJuice

  • While i’m on the subject of PSP’s why not have PSP trophies? We know the PSP library hasn’t been all that decent for a while why not try and revitalize that with trophies! Maybe that will attract sales and from there even more of the bigger developers which the PSP really lacks.

  • Love the updates keep ’em coming!
I also saw a comment regarding the PSN API and I would have to say that would be totally sweet to have access to especially for flash development! Make it so!

Now if only I could find a job that payed me to trophy whore all day …

  • @100 britton 1207 PSNID Name Change

I think you make a great point. A lot of people I know want to change their PSN ID but dont want to lose the trophies they’ve accumulated. A name change service would be good, but put a high premium eg £10 or $15 dollars and people wont change unless they are serious. If someone does change their could be a public note kept on their Profile that says “formerly known as…” this could be displayed for 3 months.

I think Japanese PSN users can change their ID so it would be good in the West too.

Now get the voice messaging soon, and the PSN will be the absolute best online gaming service!

  • can we expect a way to change our PSN id soon without creating a new one?
    thanks

  • @107

Japanese can change their display name to anything they want even names already taken but I don’t think they can change their actual PSN ID.

  • Thanks Jeff; some great features for sure.

  • Jeff Rubenstein has replied to this post.

  • for the merger can you post a blog about it and not an alert when you login? cause i only login when i need to post a comment…. and i might miss the merger opportunity if you do it based on login…

    thanks dude!
    you rock!

  • Love the constant improvements to the PS3 and the blog too. Thanks for the hard work!

  • I dunno if this has already been asked and it might be a silly question but does it mean that with an European account you can log in here as well?

I think its a great idea, I can then easily log in via my PS3 browser, works really terrible now, password never works and if it does, when I hit to another post I’m logged off again.

  • Well, the PSN-ID thing is going to cost the BLOG at least one user…your friendly neighborhood TouchyEd (not that anyone cares).

When I bought my PS3 two years ago and created my PSN, I used my real name (having no idea at the time what my PSN-ID was even meant for) — and I’m entirely unwilling to post comments here using my real name. I’ve recently had to quit using the FORUMS for the exact same reason.

Forcing people to use their PSN-ID’s (which they can’t change) is ridiculous.

I have several friends who frequented this BLOG long before they ever purchased a PS3 system. They were contributing members of our community before ever owning a PS3. In fact, this blog was a big reason they purchased a PS3. This PSN-ID thing will kill off that “still shopping” sector of the community, and present the PlayStation world as closed-off and exclusionary.

And forcing everyone to use the same pitiful little collection of Avatars is even worse.

But if that’s what you want…fair enough.

    It’s been a slice.

    TouchyEd signing out.

  • Absolutely great news! I will now resume posting here, since I hated having to reply using @xxxxxx and such.

Thanks for your continued effort, its appreciated.

  • One for the road,

    @115 TouchyEd

I understand your qualm, but really you can just make a different PSN ID to post with. Its not like they are banning you.

This is for the betterment of the community as a whole, suck it up!

  • Very cool to hear about the official podcast being in the works. You guys have done a great job with the blog reaching out to the community. Are there any plans to turn the post responses into more of a forum format? Right now it just looks a bit loose, for lack of a better way of putting it, a format with a tighter structure would be nice, especially the ability to quote other posts.

  • @TouchyEd,
Can we assume your first name is Ed/Edward?

Now, we don’t have that much further to go…

  • Also, the PSN ID signup on PS3 has always said that using your name is not a good PSN ID.

  • Great enhancements!

Now I know its been said before, but here’s one more vote for PC PS3 messaging.

  • Does this get rid of those whiny Canadians and Europeans who just whine about not having a video store all the time?

    USA! USA!

  • @117 TouchyEd
    Good bye TouchyEd

  • Great stuff!

  • To Jeff,

I have 2 different PlayStation Blog User Name ID’s… Main Reason for my Question is because I wanted to change my Name to Match up with the PSN ID I use… which is this one (Skater_Ricky).. but how ever my older blog ID is this (skaterricky).

I want to Link both my Blog Id’s to my PSN ID.

How Could I change BOTH of my Blog ID’s to be using the New Coming soon PSN ID??

Will it be a sign in thing were I could just just Link my user name’s on the blog and Link it to my PSN ID?? and then do that to both.

I hope I’m Correct on this one!

    PSN: Skater_Ricky 8)

  • Yes, yes, yes! Finally I will be able to use my PSN ID!

  • Is it true that we MUST have Microsoft Windows to access the store now ?

Before I could at least access it, and purchase stuff, but couldn’t download anything because I don’t use Windows. Now, I can’t even access it.

Is Sony telling me I have to use Windows to browse the store from my PC ?

  • I know this has been said many times before, but I wanted to add that I hope the PSN avatar selection is updated so that there is an option to upload and use your own custom avatar. Having to pick from a limited (or even unlimited) list isn’t very satisfying.

Also, I hope the dev team has this account merging thing sorted out this time around. Having to reenter all my games during the Underground merger was a total pain. Games did show up, but they weren’t my selections and I had hundreds of games entered for all systems (PS1, PS2, PSP and PS3). I emailed support and they couldn’t help and nobody in the know seemed to address the issue at all.

  • I love the idea, keep up the good work. I loved how yall making it easy for us.

  • Hi Jeff…I hope you haven’t given up on reading the suggestions:)
I would like a way to track my own comments. That way I can easily see if anyone responds. And BTW…for a while now a lot of the yellow links on the posts here get misplaced and actually show over the rest of the post making it unreadable…just an FYI
Thanks for listening. I’ll miss my Gravitar…especially since it took so long for it to show in the first place.

  • So we’ll have to use our PSN name? I’d rather stay anonymous here on the blog.

  • @133

just make another ID for the blog

  • Sounds good, but come on, bring the stuff we really want like more PSN avatars, and a PSN web control panel to manage friends and messages and trophies. It’s taking forever lol

  • problem with the blog i think. they wont let me go past page 1 of the comments

  • oh so when will all the features be implemented?

  • I mean it’s great with the rely thing and all the account merging, but the only thing that kinda blows about the PSN IDs is that you get stuck w/ the same freakin’ avatar from the already limited avatar pool from the PSN network….:(

Man, I really wish we could keep the ones we have, hell I finally got mines (my Tekken 6 Xiaoyu Gravatar) to work now I gotta see it go! Kinda takes the individuality out of the posters don’t it if you got 500 PSN ID owners w/ the SAME avatar…..:/

Hope you guys can those you handle that to start upping the avatar count (or at least give the option for ppl to use or create their own) in the future.

  • Good. Now add a login button on the main page, too!

  • Great features, however my Gravatar is the same as my PSN Avatar, so I win!

But Gravatar was awesome! For some reason I thought their service was amazing. The way they tied the E-Mail and used the MD5 hash, vey cool stuff.

Keep up the good work Jeff, I’d give you a raise… but I cant…

  • I like the psn id thang. shure the avetras are lam but the name is your own it definds you.

we need a bolg page for direc contack a place that stay on the open page when you first open the blog.

  • yea tell sony to give PS3 ID the option to use own image.

  • This is a bit late posting, but I just have to say I hope that I’m not gonna lose my login because of this, since I am a european user. Great blog!

  • Sounds great! I can’t wait to see these features implemented!

  • Sweet!
