I Love Ninjas in PlayStation Home

CydoniaX's Avatar + Posted by CydoniaX on Feb 10, 2009 // PlayStation Home Community Manager

We’ve got some big plans for PlayStation Home coming up, some of which may involve ninjas and street fighters. We thought that would grab your attention. It did for us at SCEA.

And as we continue to expand upon existing content with PlayStation Home spaces, we’ve introduced a leaderboard for the Red Bull Air Race in the Red Bull space. We recently made the most of these new leaderboards with a contest to see who could get the highest scores. Shopaholics rejoice too, you’ll find some cool new virtual items at the mall, including ninja and pirate costumes.

As you may have heard, Capcom is set to expand its blockbuster franchises globally with Street Fighter and Resident Evil within PlayStation Home. Resident Evil 5 fans can launch straight from PlayStation Home into the game. And for the Street Fighter fans, Capcom is bringing Street Fighter IV costumes and additional themed content to PlayStation Home, much of which will be unlocked through in-game actions.

I know that is a lot to digest, but that’s not all … in the next few months, gamers will find even more clothing, furniture and events taking place throughout PlayStation Home, including the launch of the Warhawk space (complete with game launching), SOCOM space, and the recently announced Gamer’s Lounge. This will be another hang-out space for the community to mix and mingle, just like you would at a real lounge. We will also hold special events here such as developer talks and parties. Along with the spaces, you can bet you’ll find even more impromptu promotions and giveaways taking place.

And as for the ninjas …. On February 12th, sweet ninja outfits will be available for purchase at the Mall to dress your PlayStation Home avatar up in. Yeah, ninja outfits! And to celebrate their arrival, we’re holding a contest: On February 13th, we’ll be holding an event called “I Love Ninjas.” The first instance of the brand-new community-named Home hang-out space, the Gamer’s Lounge, to be completely filled with people in ninja costumes (or a reasonable facsimile using all-black clothing items in your inventory) that we see will win vouchers for SOCOM and Warhawk to celebrate the upcoming spaces.

What events would you like to see?

Am I the only one thats not into home? I installed it when the public beta went out a few months ago and only ran it ONCE… after that I have no opened up HOME yet, I found it not very functional. Maybe I should open it up and see whats been updated. I really didnt like the fact that the feature to start a game or invite others to your game was not enabled.

Sorry to say but until I can do everything I can do in my XMB in home there isn’t much in it for me to do. Sure it’s nice to hang out but if I wanted to watch a Video or Listen to my own music I have to logout of home and do that. Why can’t we do that stuff in our own Spaces? I mean is it really that hard to listen to music while I walk around home or bowl? Killzone 2 is letting us play music while playing online so why can’t I do that in Home?

ummm. This is totally awesome. Its nice to see things on the Home front picking up with events and game spaces and ladder boards coming because as much as fun Home is to just sit there and talk, we need to give it some more meat and I see a lot of delicious meat coming *drools like Homer…..meeeaaatttt*

Hey Jack,

Really good news the SF4 costumes are unlocked from buying/playing the actual game.

I know you guys need to make profit from Home, but it’s great to see content that’s rewarded to you from actual games themselves, and not just from your wallet :P

More games with unlockable tie-ins to Home please, like SF4 and RE5! Cheers

HELP! PLEASE ANSWER MY QUESTION!
Im a big fan of playstation home and i had a feeling of its potential from the start. I kept my hopes up even though many people thought of it as a dissappointment.

IS THE FEB. 13 event (with black/ninja clothing) ONLY AVAILABLE TO USA?
…or people from EUROPE can actually take pat in them?

Many thanks!
Happy Valentines to everyone!

Thanks for keeping content flowing…

I still think content should be earned not charged for though… or at least only charge for certain content. Not everything.

Allow us to earn cash by acquiring high scores and trophies or something like that.

Oh, and regarding the current “Red Bull” area…
It’s really hard to locate the race when many people are in front of the fence. We shouldn’t have to search by clicking on users in the area and navigating via the d-pad.
Add an easier way to locate the area’s accessible content within an area.

This can also be applied to other ares as well.
The theater as well as other screens, games etc. can be difficult to locate in large crowds.

Just a thought.

Thanks for keeping us updated and have a nice day!

P.S.
The PS Blog still needs “edit post” and “preview post” buttons.
The GAP posting method works perfectly for example; I suggest you apply a similar system here. I believe that it would be successful here as well, making a more user friendly interface for the Blog.

Thanks!

This is the type of stuff Home needs. Some stuff to ignite conversation. Now, we just need more stuff to do. Some basic trophies would inspire interaction too.

“Talk to 5 people not on your friends list”
“Launch into a game with strangers”
etc.

Just some basic things to give a bit of objective to the whole thing.

+ BigPoppaB on February 10th, 2009 at 9:54 am said:

I appreciate the milkage, but Home needs some content. Buying e-clothes is dandy and all, but they need more stuff like the Red Bull air races to get me to access it to begin with.

It is free though, well at least the basic home experience so I cant really complain.

When is the EA space coming?

+ LukaX23 on February 10th, 2009 at 9:54 am said:

Nice costumes, but that’s not what people are looking for in Home. How about all the features people are begging for in the forums?

PS: I’m just “knocking” on Sony’s door.

32

+ Gumbydunzeeto on February 10th, 2009 at 9:55 am said:

Hey Sony, you know what I like?

Having a company promise something revolutionary for three or four years, then release it and NOT have it be a glorified Barbie doll where you have to pay for every outfit.

It would be nice if Home consisted of something other than options to buy everything in the entire place. This is crass commercialism taken to an insulting form.

Spitting in our faces would have been simpler.

33

+ MiltonMafia on February 10th, 2009 at 9:56 am said:

Costumes are cool. Not sure if i will ever buy one. Not at these price anyway. Are you guys going to do a flea market or good will store for costumes at 25 cents for cheap bastards like me?

I like HOME somewhat but the items (clothes, furniture) are WAY overpriced (at least in Switzerland). No way I am gonna pay that much for some virtual Jeans.

35

+ stri on February 10th, 2009 at 10:03 am said:

I don’t think Sony’s really listening to us…
They’re not adding the major things we ask for; they’re adding what they think is suitable for us. The stuff that they can charge for.

Shame on you Sony!
I realize that Home basics are free, however; you’re taking it too far. Don’t charge for everything, and don’t charge so much either.

QUESTION:

Game launching worked for at least everything previously, at least LAUNCHING the game from home. Will that feature come back soon? Or is it waiting to actually be integrated into the online games as far as launching into an actual game session vs launching the game only?

MORE WOMENS CLOTHING PLEASE! The diesel store has 900000 things for the males!

With the Warhawk space do we have to have the Warhawk disc in our system or installed on our system to game launch.

Bing POP Culture into Home give a contest or raffle so players can talk to there favorite Singer or Rapper etc..

When will there be a Music Store like the movie app so we can download music on hour hard drive.

As for what events I’d like to see, I’d kinda like to see something that people in Home could participate in without having to come to the forums. The 12 days of Christmas that you and LS did was okay, but not everyone can sit at their computers hitting F5 on the young computer to participate.

It was a good effort, but there’s gotta be something built in to Home that everyone can do.
