Metal Gear Online – SCENE Expansion Details!

222 1

Hello everyone – I’m excited to announce details of the new Metal Gear Online SCENE Expansion pack! Coming in March, there will be tons of new content to keep old and new players alike entertained: new maps, special characters, new gear, and of course a couple surprises.

First, I’m excited to announce that now, in order to make the SCENE Expansion more accessible, players will be able to use their PayPal account, along with their PlayStation Network Wallet, if they so choose, to purchase the SCENE Expansion.

For those players that want to get a head start on the action and pre-order SCENE through Metal Gear Online’s in-game shop or Konami’s shop, there’s a special gift in store. Once the pre-order period starts, one week before the release date, all players who pre-order SCENE will receive a special “cardboard man” head gear for free. It should definitely provide ample cover for any bad hair day.

Now for the stuff I know you all are most excited about, the new maps and characters!

The first new map is Outer Outlet, an all new environment that takes place in a commercial mall area made up of lots of buildings and subterranean areas. Multiple floors with openings onto the areas above and below will offer many unique vantage points from which to stage the action, while the décor will provide plenty of unexpected places to seek cover. It should be ideal for medium to long range battles.

Second is Hazard House, set in a huge three story mansion – a take on the one seen from Act II of the MGS4 single player game. Lots of doors, hallways, and blind corners, will make for intense claustrophobic combat.

Third is Ravaged Riverfront – a take on the Eastern European environment from Act III of the MGS4 single player game – with a large clock tower surrounded by lots of underground and underwater areas. Lots of clear space, perfect for long range attacks.

SCENE will also bring two long awaited, much requested, special characters to MGO – Raiden and Vamp, both with impressive special abilities and offensive power to spare! First is Vamp, knife-expert extraordinaire. You may be able to defeat him once, but that’s no guarantee he won’t be back for more! Second is Raiden, whose appearance belies his extraordinary skill and agility in combat. They are formidable opponents, or one of them can be a great ally to have on your team. Yes, you will indeed be able to have a multiplayer battle between Raiden and Vamp, which is a fun as it looks! More specifics about their abilities will be revealed soon!

Next week, we will be releasing a trailer for SCENE on the PlayStation Network and the PlayStation Blog, so please look out for that. There’s even more on the way with the SCENE Expansion – stay tuned to the PlayStation Blog in the coming weeks for more details!

  • Very Awesome!! Thanks for letting us know! Looks to be quite a bit of content as well… any idea for a price yet?

  • awesome. MGS4 and online is the best!

  • woot! i can’t wait to see Vamp and Raiden fight again!!

  • I’ll never get back to MGO unless you guys fix this whole KONAMI ID catastrophe. Oh and where are the MGS4 trophies? I mean hell, if there is ONE Sony title that should be having trophies, it’s MGS4 !

  • THIS GAME SHOULD BE GETTING TROPHIES ASWELL

  • I won’t be supporting Konami again until a trophy patch is released for MGS4.

  • Nice! I appreciate Konami and Kojima Productions continued support for the MGS4:GotP.

Since support is still active, will there ever be a trophy support patch?

  • Sounds like some awesome content. I just got back on MGO last week and got my rear handed to me. I’d definately be back for more MGS4/MGO if trophies were added. *wink, wink*

  • people still play MGO?

  • If you guys would stop being stupid about this and put the expansions in the PlayStation Store I would buy them.

    Just saying.

  • I appreciate the continue support, but I wish they integrated the PSN ID and patch in Trophies instead

  • good. but someone tell me, what is konami’s reason for not using the PlayStation Network?

  • This game has THE worst infrastructure of any online game I’ve ever played. You guys fail pretty hard.

  • Im so happy they are going through the PS Store. I hope they allow you to buy older expansion packs through the PS Store also. Now give one of the best PS3 games trophies Konami PLEASE!!!

  • Stopped playing MGO ages ago, Konami’s stranglehold on the whole playing and DLC process was just more than I could handle.
Good luck to all who buy and I hope you enjoy.

  • I supported your game with a purchase (new) last year but still have not played it as I keep hoping there is a trophy patch in the works.

Is there a definite answer to this?

And what is with the crazy Paypal payments? That is really odd but if that’s how Kojima rolls who am I to question it.

  • I’ll start playing MGO once it uses the regular PSN friends list. I hate the Konami system.

Please add Trophy support to MGS4!

  • This is great and I hate to be one of the whiners, but a Trophy patch would be fantastic!

Especially since we have a Greatest Hits edition coming out.

  • Thanks for the update, I’ve been out of the MGO game for a while now didnt get he meme pack yet so is there a deal that comes with both of the expansions? the new maps looks cool and gives us a different setting to play in, im kind of getting tired of all the trees and dirt, keep bring us those updates, also posting the dlc on psn would be a better way to let people know that there is an update on mgo.

    Thanx Brandon

  • so i can buy it directly from the psn store?? do i need older expansions to buy it?

  • will GENE and MEME expansions be able to be purchased through the PlayStation Network Wallet as well?

  • Ive been waiting, so long, to play as Raiden :D

  • yea i quit MGO cause konami shouldve used the PSstore for DLC. also i hate the konami id stuff….stupid if u ask me ;-)

  • Please make MGO run on PSN using our PSN accounts.

Good job in this update I can’t wait to go back to MGO.

  • I haven’t played in months since I got Foxhound. Is it still laggy? If not I would easily go back to this game. One of the most fun online games I’ve ever played and MGS4 is the best game period.

  • Beautiful levels.

BTW I am amongst the millions of people who wants MGS4 trophies! Will this ever happen? At least give us an answer :)

  • YEA MGS4 TROPHIES! we need that!

  • Konami’s online purchasing and networking system is epic failure. Shame on you Konami for fixing something that isn’t broken. The PSN is perfect, use it next time.

Also, Raiden and Vamp look awesome, and these maps look incredible as well.

  • Awesome… Oh wait, I haven’t plaved MGS4 in a while.

    Still great anyway.

  • Great news that you’re allowing the content to be purchased with the PSN Wallet. Now, the question I have is will you bundle the former 2 Expansions (GENE & MEME) together with SCENE so I can purchase all 3 together with my PSN Wallet?

  • Yea…….Finally i can buy the expansions :).

Its a shame a having the BEST PS3 game without Trophies…..period.

  • This is cool and all but i have one HUGE prob. My DLC for SFIV collectors Ed code is not working. This seams to be going on with a lot of people. I went to a friends house and he was experiencing the same problem. Can you wonderful people at Sony help with this.

  • Is this coming on PSN?

  • All the addons are really neat, though its ashame MGO’s over all game mechanic just dosnt work very well for online play, it could seriously do with a revamp in the way weapons work and dmg is delt.

  • Amazing, expansions pack on the PSN is full of win.

  • Guns of the Patriots needs trophies, why not just say yes or no and get it over with. Releasing trophies would probably spike sales and rentals as well. Also MGO is too much of pain to play, matchmaking take forever. But I love MGS4, its the reason I bought a PS3.

  • WE NEED TROPHIES….

  • Awesome. Hopefully Raiden will be able to jump and do all sorts of crazy moves. Same with Vamp.

Any chance we’ll be able to battle metal gears online? Fighting human opponents is fun, but the game is called metal gear online after all.

  • maybe if the online didnt suck…

  • How about the trophy patch?

  • I’ll check this out if there is a in-game dl option. But wish it was on psn instead like everyone else…

  • The last time there was a expansion I was like cool I need to go get it.. but it didn’t seem to be an easy process.. So I put it off and I’ve never gone back to get it … which I really would like to.. I don’t to much care for the implementation.. Doesn’t matter now as there’s no way of going back.. Wish we could just get the DLC from the store (unless we can and I’m an idiot)

I’m also very surprised that MGS4 of all games has not been patched for Trophies..

  • I forgot to mention.. the DLC for Online really is awesome and it’s cool to see the support..

  • No trophies, no PSN patching, no PSN usage, no PSN friends list support? — NO THANKS!…

You know.. I’d be -slightly- more interested in this if they’d just drop the KONAMI ID, and GAME ID logins, and went with the unified logins already supported in the PSN. — Until they do something like that, I’m going to go ahead and be completely dis-interested in MGO..

  • So… does this mean that the pack will be on the Playstation Store, since the wallet can be used?

  • I honestly would play Metal Gear Online if it wasn’t for the horrendous infrastructure that is KONAMI ID. I refuse to buy expansions and game updates though their store. This should have been on PSN from day 1 and Konami was out of their mind to try to force us to use their horrendous system. When this game is 100% fully integrated into the PSN (I.E. all expansions, add-ons, etc on PS Store) then I’ll care.

  • I only don’t play MGO because the online is such a nuisance, whats the chance of getting a trophy patch though, if your still working on the game then surely a trophy patch would be perfect for this game come on Konami
