Humbled, Honored and Hooray’ing all day!!! LittleBigPlanet AIAS awards recap!

Mark Valledor's Avatar Posted by on Feb 20, 2009 // Marketing Manager, SCEA

For those that may have missed it, LittleBigPlanet was a big hit last night at the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences’ 12th Annual Interactive Achievement Awards in Las Vegas. In addition to winning the Overall Game of the Year category, we were also honored with some incredible awards including:

  • Console Game of the Year
  • Family Game of the Year
  • Outstanding Achievement in Game Direction
  • Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction
  • Outstanding Achievement in Visual Engineering
  • Outstanding Innovation in Gaming

And to cap it off, SackBoy picked up the eight award for Outstanding Character Performance.

So on behalf of us here at Sony and the Molecules, a sincere ‘thank you’ to all the endless and incredible support of our LittleBigPlanet community and fans. This game is as much yours as it is ours.

In addition to being honored by AIAS, we were truly flattered that Beat Crusaders used our beloved SackBoy for their Phantom Planet music video. Check it out!

I dunno who that band is (J-rock?), but that is an awesome music video. The really creative geniuses within the LBP community never cease to amaze me with youtube/mock-ups (WHERE IS MY VAL CHRON SACKPERSON OUTFIT SEGA!? IF NEOGAF CAN PHOTOSHOP ONE WHY CAN’T YOU CALL MM AND MAKE IT REAL!? ;___;)/etc. etc. etc. Totally awesome. I think MM has hit their goal in getting people to be creative/getting kids to be creative really well.

Cool video game!!! Now, please!!! fix the “profile cannot be saved because it is too large” problem… The problem is completely annoying, not to mention it gets in the way of enjoying LBP, poor Sackboy gets killed at times because of the message error popping out at the bad times…. PLEASE!!!!

+ mckg123456789 on February 21st, 2009 at 1:07 am said:

nice LBP deserves all that & more!! LBP its so original, fun, game ppl can make their own lvls, costumes their sackboys, etc. LBP FTW!!:D

big deal. havent played the game since launch…very one dimensional.

+ Kenshin71 on February 21st, 2009 at 4:20 am said:

Congrats to MM, it’s a great game and they deserve the accolades.

BTW, Beat Crusaders are signed to DefSTAR Records, a subsidiary of Sony Music Japan. I have a sneaking suspicion this might have something to do with the LBP video.

+ Grinchy on February 21st, 2009 at 4:22 am said:

Everyone who owns a PS3 but not this game should get punched in the eye.

Then they should be forced, by law, to purchase 2 copies of this game.

+ jazzyrider on February 21st, 2009 at 5:06 am said:

Wow – more awards! Congratulations MM & Sony!

Spread the love! Maybe its time to start working on LBP2?!

+ Solid_Snake1987 on February 21st, 2009 at 5:07 am said:

Finally a game that deserves recognition wins big at an award show. That mantlepiece must be getting pretty full…

+ sTeLioSco on February 21st, 2009 at 5:19 am said:

well deserved…

+ Randy_Rhoads on February 21st, 2009 at 5:29 am said:

Well deserved!!!!!!! LBP is awesome!!

i want Sackboy plushies btw

+ Kenshin71 on February 21st, 2009 at 5:31 am said:

You know what would be a cool idea? Since these awards are decided by developers and those in the industry it would be cool to see some levels by high profile developers, Kojima or Jaffe or the guys at Insomniac or Jenovah Chen, something like that. Not game tie ins like the MGS stuff but just original levels by developers. Sony, send out some emails.

+ verafx on February 21st, 2009 at 5:45 am said:

Thats great, LBP is one of my favorite games and deserves the attention its getting. Keep up the good work guys.

+ lakaiHIGH on February 21st, 2009 at 6:14 am said:

oh yeah forgot to mention… please put the music video and song on the PSN. (preferably free)

+ linuxguru on February 21st, 2009 at 6:21 am said:

That video was amazing! It would be great if we could do something like that in LBP. What I mean is using real live (or pre-recorded) background environments…and actually attach stuff to it (like the speakers in the video that are attached to the scaffolding). More integration with the PS Eye would be great too.

+ Zookey on February 21st, 2009 at 6:36 am said:

Congratulations MM and Sony!!!!

+ Zookey on February 21st, 2009 at 6:39 am said:

Just a hint—to celebrate you should make a high def version of the Beat Crusader’s video a free download in the PSN store–that’d be cool!

Congrats to Media Molecule for this magnificent game! :)

+ ThaddeusK on February 21st, 2009 at 9:08 am said:

Congratulations Media Molecule! It’s well deserved from all your hard work and REAL innovation(not like that fake innovation other companies claim to have :).

I played the beta and bought the game on release and have since converted several people to LBP, its the best party game ever made in my opinion. More people are willing to play it than Rock Band, even :).

+ ROLO_ONFIRE on February 21st, 2009 at 9:09 am said:

LOL they used the “Dia de Muertos” Mexican Stage, awesome. I love this game

No matter how you play this game you can never get bored.

Gotta love the level design its like im a inventor :D.

+ SDkngsht on February 21st, 2009 at 1:13 pm said:

congrats. i love this game. everytime i turn it on i see/play something new. keep the updates and innovations coming.

hopefully this will force some other companies to keep pushing the envelope and step up their creativity game.

PS3 is home to all of my favorite innovative games that are a breath of fresh air this generation. from LBP to PJ Monsters to Uncharted to even Flower. people who say the PS3 doesn’t have any games don’t own one…period.

great job people.

Congrats on the rewards Media Molecule, you guys deserved them.

I liked the music video, although it would of been sweet if it all was one big level that they made so we could play it too.
