I’m Mark Stanley, Director and General Manager for Latin America at SCEA. I’m thrilled to announce that today PlayStation is officially expanding into Latin America!
So this means that you can now purchase any of the three PlayStation platforms, our library of software titles – such as Resistance 2 – and even the latest peripherals, including our Bluetooth Headset, in 13 countries across Latin America. We’re also working on providing access to PlayStation Network in select countries.
This is such an exciting opportunity and we’re looking forward to providing social entertainment and gaming experiences you can share among your friends and family around the world. This expansion is the direct result of feedback we received from you and we’re proud to deliver PlayStation products and services to enable you to easily connect, play and communicate with one another.
As a native of Costa Rica with many years working directly in the region, I know Latin America holds much promise of growth for SCEA. Muchas gracias to all of you in Latin America and around the world for your support!

Wow, better late than never lol. I feel bad for you guys/girls in Latin America. Here in the US we have been playing our PS3’s for over 2 years.

we have ps3’s since launch here in Brazil, it wasn’t a official platoform ’til now, so the games here are expensive, but we have MANY ps3’s her and we all now that it is the best console out there!

Hello to everyone and GRACIAS A SONY POR ACORDARSE DE NOSOTROS! (thank you Sony for remembering us).
I would love to have a native PlayStation Store for Panama, just like every other country in Latin America.
As you know, all of our countries import the PlayStation products (at premium prices) so we can have our beloved systems FROM LAUNCH.
The Panama Sony Store (Sony Center, soon to be “Sony Style”) started selling OFFICIALY the PlayStation brand not long ago and we are very happy for this because the prices in all Panama Stores are very affordable.
Keep up the good work. We are celebrating with you.

We also have our PS3s for 1 or 2 years, but we didn’t have any official support from Sony. Actually, Sony of Brazil ( http://www.sony.com.br ) doesn’t even know that the PS1, PS2 and PS3 are from Sony.

One more Brazilian here! Hopefully we will have a PS Store too…
I’m still skeptical… :-( a 40Gb PS3 model costs around US$830 in Brazil, that’s definitely not a way to make people “go Sony”.
Well, they announced they’ll start to make the PS2 in Brazil in the third quarte of the year, maybe it will help cut costs and drive the sales forward of the console. Now if they would only make the games cheaper… I believe pricing compatible with the poorer reality of Latin America is what stops it from being a massive video-game consumer.
Also, what drives me crazy is that none of this was announced by the local Sony branches, I’m yet to see any local news on Sony products made in Portuguese! I mean, a good way to build a hype machine is to let people know and spread the word.
Alas, I sound like Cassandra, but I do hope I’m wrong and that soon we’ll manage to buy PS3 with decent pricing and games at the local retailers and not only on eBay… :\

Btw, on the store thing. I highly doubt we’ll have a Brazilian PSN Store because we have a big, complicated system of game rating and approval by the government. If they would only accept brazilian credit cards in the USA shop… The funny thing is: We’re asking you to help US to give YOU more money, hahaha…

Muchas gracias! Living in Mexico, I’ve always felt somewhat left behind when it comes to the Playstation brand (just a few weeks ago there was no Home for the Mexican PSN). Hopefully this will mean a whole new gaming experience for us Latin Americans.

To be honest, it’s too late, I personally import every game that I want, and unless Sony adds the option to transfer all progress obtained with the trophies (even if they charge 20$ for it, I don’t mind paying) a PSN account with my native country would be useless, as a primary account at least.
And thats assuming my country (Paraguay) is in that list.
does this mean we will have another psn region server?

Gracias por el apoyo de SCEA en expandirse hacia Latino America. Solo espero que los precios sea los correctos ya que la tendencia aqui es que todos los productos Playstation son mucho mas caros que en otras regiones con su correspondiente equivalente.
Thanks Mark Stanley for your support for Latin America. I hope that the price here will be the correct ones, because the trend here is Playstation products are always more higher that their counterpart in other regions with thier respective equivalent.

Lo que pasa es q a ellos les cuesta mucho para importarlos y alfin y alcabo tienen q recuperar algo..es por eso q los precios fuera de los Estados Unidos son muy altos..
Ademas Sony siempre ha tenido un afecto muy especial por latino america…alla tienen mejores y mas ruidosos equipos de audio q nunca llegan a US..
hola, vivo en republica dominicana y me da mucho gusto oir esta noticia. espero que vendan el play3 al mismo precio que en U.S ya que aqui cuesta aproximadamente 700 dolares el modelo de 80gb. Gracias sony.

Great!! I’m from Costa Rica and have a Ps3 for about a year, and also psp, ps2 and ps1 and lots of games!! this will be great for us!! Pura vida!! We should have a Latin American Store!!

It’s true that it’s expensive to import them, but first we need Sony support for consoles (and not only for other devices like cell phones, cameras, etc.). Then, they can try to negotiate with the governments for lower taxes to import games, consoles and accessories.
And we also need a PS Store that accepts at least our credit cards.
PS: I answered it in English because I understand Spanish, but I can’t write or speak Spanish. (I’m from Brazil)

@21: maybe they won’t accept credit cards, only prepaid card like on the Mexican store (which is dumb as Xbox does accept Mexican credit cards), also the Mexican store was just opened on August and it sucks, it has less than half of the content from the US and is not updated often, I’m still using my US account for playing and buying.
