Command & Conquer Red Alert 3: Ultimate Edition Demo Available Now on PSN

Hello again everyone, it’s me, David Seeholzer the Senior Development Director on Command & Conquer Red Alert 3: Ultimate Edition. I’m excited to let you know that our single player demo for the Ultimate Edition is available over at the PlayStation Store right now! So go start your downloads…go ahead, I’ll still be here when you get back ;-)

The demo contains 2 campaign missions and a tutorial that will get you accustomed to playing RA3 on your PS3. The first campaign mission comes from the Soviet campaign; mission “Krasna 45,” the second mission of the Soviet campaign, which we recommend you play first. You are sent in to reclaim a derelict soviet base in order to intercept an Empire of the Rising Sun force en route to Moscow. The other mission is “Heidelberg,”the third mission in the Allied campaign, which we recommend you play second overall. In Heidelberg, the Soviets have been pushed back to their headquarters and players will need to turn the tide of the battle by sneaking into their base, forcing them all the way back to Siberia. Both these missions feature co-op gameplay with an A.I. co-commander who will support you as well as follow your orders.

As I mentioned before, the demo will also include a tutorial to get you familiar commanding your army, utilizing the CommandStick 2.0 User Interface, and how to boss your co-commander around. Feel free to let us know how you’re doing with the controls either in the comments section here or in the forums at our website. We feel it’s definitely something you can pick up and learn quickly, and that in time, some of you may even become quicker with the SIXAXIS than you would be on the PC with a keyboard and mouse – we have a few of those guys on our team here in Los Angeles – hopefully you won’t run into them in multiplayer!

We hope you enjoy playing the demo this weekend. We’re shipping to stores next week, so you’ll get the chance to play through the entire 27-mission co-op campaign with a buddy over PSN, along with skirmish and multiplayer in just a few days. Red Alert 3 is all about having fun with your friends, and we think you will have a blast playing both cooperatively and competitively over PSN. Who knows, maybe you’ll even stumble across some of us at EALA out there somewhere. See you on the battlefield!

  • While I enjoyed the demo greatly and the controls are workable…

But the button combination for assigning control groups is a little painful.

It feels iffy and you can’t do it with any form of confidence its quicker to “forget” you have control groups.

One little itty bitty thing, when you have control of more then one faction there should be a way to access the other tech tree from the command window instead of going to that other construction yard and selecting it.

Always during the allied mission I make prompt to take over the russian MCV in the southern base so I can build both tech trees.

  • The demo froze on the first tutorial and I tried to quit the game with the PS button, but this made my PS3 restart a few times. Also the Allied campaign had no sound at all. A few of the videos froze as well in the top right and when you move around the screen it seems like their is tearing going on?
I also feel like you cant pull the camera out far enough. Just a few grips, but with it going gold this is worrying. It can’t just be a download problem can it?

  • keyboard/mouse support

  • i played the demo its really good but the controls are painful though…

  • i have to say, I’m a bit disappointed of the demo, because i exepcted a nearly perfect graphic and to be honest: the tearing is aweful… but i hope its not gonna be in the final product. anyway: will there be a german demo, next week? please,…

  • I downloaded it but when installing it I got an error and did not finish the installation. Anybody with the same problem?

  • I DLed the demo and was nicely surpirsed!
The gameplay is thihgt and the graphics are good. The controls are slow compared to PC rts games but i can adjust to them
    Good work EA!

  • Where is the demo!!!

    (i live in Holland)

  • What a terrible disappointment. I was really looking forward to this game.

The visuals are no where near the quality this generation of games has produced in other titles. The controls and slow and a responsive nightmare. This kind of product should NOT be rewarded. EA is obviously much more concerned with their wallet than the happiness of gamers.

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. If you buy it, you are telling EA it is ok to produce this crap. DEMAND BETTER.

Also, the demo has more bugs and problems than I could count. Way to “entice” us. Demo FAIL. Game FAIL. EA FAIL.

  • going to get it

  • So… I downloaded the demo…

    AND IT WAS AWESOME!!!!

    I only encountered one problem.
And that was, I hand Tanya take cover in a house. But when i had her come out, she got stuck in between 2 buildings..

And there was no way to make her destroy the building, or anyone else destroy it.

I wish there was a way to do that.. Like in red alert 1.

Other than that, It was fantasticle.

  • this game is dope…
    one of my favorites…

  • badass…game…

  • red alert 3 ultimate edition
    =
    Red alert 3 + uprising(new units) + new maps?????

    please, answere

  • PLEASE HELP SONY OR ANYONE!!!!
Okay, I have been waiting for this demo for a long time now. but its not there! i dont know if it has anything to do with the fact that im living in latin america. but the same thing happend to me with the endwar demo, i got it like 3 months after. also, some other things and missing, like the escape from dark athena demo and some themes. my most resent one is the Midnight Club LA south central pack

  • They actually did an exceptional job with the controls.

You can literally do every single thing that you can do in the PC version of the game with the controller, and do most of the things faster than you do with the pc version of the game!!!

I downloaded the demo. Yes, it takes a little while to figure out what all the different key combos are. But once you do, it feels extremely natural.

I don’t miss KB+Mouse at all. It’s nice being able to sit back on the recliner and do everything just the controller without having to fumble around with so many different keys.

  • I do agree with some of the criticisms other pointed to of the controls though…

Overall, it works very well and rapidly. But a few aspects like those things above could use an update of some sort.

  • Never mind. It’s not a big issue. Making groups is not as easy as it should be (it would be cool if you could assign them to the dpad).

And also, there’s a few things, like if you select a bunch of units to go attack their base, the multigunner mcv with the engineer loaded into it (so that it repairs your vehicles), won’t follow along even if it was in the group of units you selected. It would be perfect if you could assign it or another unit to follow a group or a vehicle or somethign.

But it’s honestly not a big deal.

  • It doesn’t feel unwieldy at all. Just give it a little bit of time.

It’s like the very first time you played a FPS with a controller. I’m sure it felt unwieldy initially.

But if you just go through the tutorial (it’s short) to learn the controls and try them for an hour or two, it’ll feel natural in time.

I’m being serious here. I was sad about the lack of KB+Mouse support at first too. But now, I honestly think this controls better and more fluidly than the PC version.

I still have qualms with the game. I want them to include a few more extras to make this the Ultimate edition. Maybe a console exclusive multiplayer gameplay mode. I’m atleast hoping they added coop matchmaking, something the 360 version didn’t have.

But as far as controls go, I couldn’t be more pleased with them.

  • Also, the thing about the controls is. I don’t see how KB + Mouse could’ve been implented easily.

The entire control interface was completely changed and redone to work on the controller. It works really well like I said above. But you would basically have to redo all the graphical cues, and the whole control set up to have it work with a keyboard and mouse. That development time could be better spent on making some exclusive online modes for the PS3 like C&C 3 had, and porting over Uprising.

I am also curious to find out whether the game includes coop matchmaking or not. The 360 version didn’t. If not, it absolutely should be added via a patch of some sort.

  • Does the someone want fill in perhaps following questions?? thanks

    1. Who have do the European demo already and when? In which country do live you?
    2. do you have all Units in the demo? (also of uprising)
    3. can you in the demo online?
4 can you be in the demo all factions? (the allied, sov. and empire)
    5. can you do the career in the demo only?
    6. is the demo slow?
    7. have you in the game (not in the demo) multiplayer (split scream)

Sorry my English is not the best

  • 1. don’t know
    2. no, you get a lot of cool units, not all.
    3. no, the demo only has singlplayer levels
    4. you can be the allied and the soviets (there’s a construction yard you can capture below with engineer) but not the empire
    5. the career and the tutorial. i highly recommend doing the tutorial. it’s pretty funny and makes the controls really easy to learn.
    6. no the demo is fast and fun.
    7. the game has multiplayer online, no spiltscreen unfortunately :( I’m very disappointed that the game doesn’t have splitscreen as well. Maybe they’ll make a patch adding it.

  • Thanks but I have one question

Have you in the game (not in the demo) all Units (also uprising?)

  • When will the eu be able to download ???i cant wait…plz respond

  • man Sony you should have bought out Westwood way back then im so disappointed EA I swear they ruin everything I cant believe theres a unit cap the PS3 can handle hundreds of units at a time yet you can only have around fifty this is a port of the other console hopefully under siege will fix that all the old Red Alerts did not have a unit cap. i loved making big armies its too bad now that im not gonna bother buying it I hate to even say that im not getting it I swear its like my love for rts games is over!

  • Thanks psn, for not bothering with the eu version!! its really apprieciated!!! Maybe ill wait untill next year when it may possibly be uploaded by then. Great…

  • I for one am very disappointed that the RA3 demo is still not available in the UK (and presumibly EU in general) yet the full version of the game is now available in the shops.

If EA is to blame, shame on you guys you’ve managed to anger a lot of fans with this.

If EA isn’t to blame and it’s down to PSN, then I hope EA is monitoring this blog posting for comments and gets on the phone to PSN right now and has a high level conversation about this rediculous failure.

Not being able to play the demo before buying the game is a showstopper for me, despite being a long term RA gamer for many years. I suspect many other fans are in the same situation.

  • Beta tested the PC version. I don’t understand why we cannot use the keyboard and mouse on the console version. I love RTS games but I like to have the keyboard and mouse. I was so excited about this game coming to the PS3. I was unable to use my keboard and mouse on the demo. If the PS3 is capable of connecting keyboard/mouse why can’t we use it on certain games?

  • I’m eagerly waiting for the EU demo come to the PSN
    COME ON Sony, or EA
i have spent weeks waiting for the demo
why cant you bother putting it
i’ve seen red alert 3 themes, wallpapers, map packs but no demo!!!
