Smash Cars Coming to PlayStation Network

And like the return of your favorite seasonal sandwich at your favorite fast food restaurant, I’m back! I have the distinct honor of reporting to you, and you’re hearing it here first, that the next game to be released under the successful, critically acclaimed partnership between Creat Studios and TikGames will be (wait for it…) SMASH CARS! A follow-up to the original Smash Cars, Creat’s 2003 ‘no rules’ RC (radio-controlled) racing game, the franchise returns to PlayStation and will be available for download during the second quarter on the PlayStation Network.

Sound interesting? Of course it does. So here’s more details: real-time physics, innovative stunts and next-generation graphics combine into a dynamic, tricked-out single and multiplayer RC car racing experience where players twist and turn, grind and gear up, performing aerial tricks and stunts while racking up trophies and points as they race to the finish, all in an unlikely location. Set on a beautiful and tranquil Mediterranean island, the fast-moving, bumper car gameplay style transforms this calm and relaxing setting into a dynamically frenzied raceway. A high-speed mini car racing game with a distinct arcade flavor, gameplay is presented from the unique perspective of a small RC vehicle, setting out to conquer the big world. Players will enjoy realistic driving physics and suspension as the tiny vehicles interact with full-size people and other beach dwellers along their path to victory.

To win the race, RC vehicles must achieve nitro-fueled rocket boosts for accelerated speed bursts by grabbing big air and pulling off gnarly tricks and jumps. Points are earned by performing the best jumps and aerial tricks, hitting dynamic obstacles, colliding with other cars, skidding and “drifting” along sharp turns, and finishing first. Players can choose from the default Monster Truck style chassis, Buggy or Sports Car configurations, and a visit to the Workshop offers players the opportunity to personalize their vehicle by selecting paint color, glass styles, and decals. Additional body styles are unlocked as players advance.

So, Smash Cars is part kart game, part racing game, and all awesome! So awesome, in fact, that Sony has honored us by featuring Smash Cars in their booth next week at the 2009 Game Developers Conference (GDC). See? We’re not the only ones who think the game is super duper special! I’ll let you take a few minutes to absorb this incredibly wonderful news, and if you have any questions or comments, I’ll be here for a bit to respond. Seacrest, out.

  • When I first saw the post I was excited about this game. However, after reading the reply about not having split-screen multiplayer, I doubt that I will get this game. This looks like it would be a great game to play locally with friends. Oh well.

    • But think about all the fun you could have playing it online, and with up to five additonal people (six total) at the same time? Would you really want to miss out on that kind of a good time? I don\’t think so.

  • I saw the Picture and i am like, oh another Motorstorm update, but then i look again and i’m like WOW its a PSN games! and it looks like great quality too! looks great!

    1080p?
    Split-screen?
    Online?
    anything else interesting?

    • 1080p? yup!
      Split-screen? nope
Online? yup! up to 6 players!
anything else interesting? tons! will be posting a link to the full press release shortly

  • Awesome, Will Buy :)

  • Awesome to hear that Creat will be bringing it to the Playstation store, I just love your PSN games. Bought Nagic ball and Mahjong, and I cant wait for the DLC. I hope you guys will keep bringing love to the PlayStation 3, since its a real selling point for the PS3 to have your great games. One thing I love about Motorstorm 2 is the ability to take screenshots, is that ability also in this game or can you upload videos to Youtube, its the perfect game for that I am sure that players will have some incredible insane moments to show when playing this game. Question related to yourself: Did you work for both 3 games currently available from creat and whats your favorite ?

    • Wow, that is a lot to cover! Will have to check on the screenshots thing, but I know you can upload clips to YouTube.

I have been working on all 3 of our games out now – if by \”work on\” you mean do PR and marketing work – and of the 3, I probably enjoy Magic Ball the most, mainly because my wife likes that one the most, so I am allowed to play it :-)

  • Loved everything from Creat Studios so far and this looks like a blast!

    Thanks for the 1080p!
Custom music would rock too! =)

  • This just in: our wacky pals at PlayStationLifeStyle.net have just posted today’s full press release about Smash Cars! Why not do what all the cool people are doing and check it out?

  • I need more Cuboid. Or in internet speech:
    Moar Cuboid Plox!

  • i’m semi excited for this game, always a fan of super arcady rc games, i’ll see what the demo says of your product

    glad to see the support

  • Hey Michael…I just wanted to say thank you for your replies. Too many posts are put up here on the blog with very little replies. We all appreciate your efforts, communication and continuation of putting out PSN titles.

To thank you for real, I will be purchasing Cuboid tonight. I’ve been on the fence with this puzzle game but your presence on this post pushed me off in your favor! I cannot wait to play tonight!

    • Hey, thanks very much. My pleasure to respond to you guys and gals. Without you, I wouldn\’t have a job! Enjoy Cuboid – it\’s a great puzzler!

  • Awesome!
You know ,my dad loves cuboid too !
He usually only plays racing games, but he loves cuboid !

  • Sounds fun! As long as the price is reasonable (ie way under 20 bucks) I am in!

  • Please please please offer a discounted bundle on Cuboid and Magic Ball. 15.99 and you got another customer

  • Micheal do you want to sign my petition for new ps3 version of micro machines :)

    • Sure, as long as you sign my petition that would force Weinerschnitzel and Fat Burger to open franchises in Boston!

  • I cant wait!

  • Nice, I love Magic Ball Michael and thank you guys for the support, consider Smash Cars SOLD!!! :D

  • I liked Magic Ball but i don’t like that when you lose, you can’t just retry, you have to go thru a whole process again to reinvite your friend, blah blah

And voice chat isnt automatically on?

Is there anyway you guys can change this

  • please , please can u guys make a euchre for psn, i love cuboid and majic ball, i hate that world poker game, im more of a euchre guy and i know you guys could make the best version of my favorite card game of all time. ill give you 20 dollars for it right now. creat is my fav indie studio right. luv u guys keep up the good work.
    peace 2 u and yours

  • Game looks great! Looking forward to picking it up when it hits the PSN.

I have, and love, Cuboid, Magic Ball and Mahjong.

I would love to see some of these developed specifically for the PSP. Cuboid especially would be awesome on the PSP.

    Keep ’em coming!

  • Another cheesy RC racing game, count me out.

    • I can assure you no cheese went into the making of this game. It is just as much wacky, tricked out kart game as it is racer, so not only is there no cheese, it is actually going to be quite fun. In fact, I almost lost my job twice this week from playing it too much here in the office!

  • Can we have easy trophies, so we can feel good getting them and not pissed off.

  • Can’t wait to try this game:) Thanks for all the PSN support guys, also i like how you respond to a lot of the comments

  • When’s the Physical Media version coming?

  • Why no spitscreen.. tecnical problems? because i need a good party game right now and you had me all exited… but no splitscreen tisk tisk tisk

    • I\’ll try and get a specific answer for you from the game\’s producer, but I do know it is a technology-based reason, as opposed to us being silly and thinking people wouldn\’t enjoy the feature. That said, the online multiplayer gameplay is going to be amazing – among the best on the PSN, if not THE best!

  • Awesome. I don’t think I heard of this game before, but thanks for the info. Will look into this more often.

  • Ahh. Looks amazingly fun!
Just have to wait for those stupid PSN cards to come out in Vancouver BC so I can buy it!

haven’t played any of your games yet, but you don’t know how much I wanted to play cuboid when I saw game play clips of it!

Anyways, I’m totally going to buy Smash Cars and Cuboid when I get a PSN card. And I’ll look into your other games too!

  • Awesome looking game. And like #33 said, this really reminds me of Re-Volt too. I’ll definitely be downloading this one. I just hope there’ll be some DLC; perhaps some indoor levels? Please????

  • @76
    Indoor levels would be Sick!
Imagine jumping down a huge flight of stairs or getting major air off a stack of books?

  • Or maybe even a stack of books at the top of a huge flight of stairs for double the fun!?!

  • Will there be different gameplay modes?
    Other than just racing?

    • The thing is, it is in no way just just a racing game. If you were to go around the track every time flawlessly, at top speed, but not perform any tricks or stunts, you could not come in first. The game is designed as part kart, so you have to do cool tricks to gain boost power in order to finish first.

  • the game seems fun, ive always liked this kind of games… too bad there isnt split screen…

  • That game looks good for a PSN game, I just it plays just as well.

  • Eeey… looks who’s here… my big friend Michael Robinson *he he*. This game looks like a lot of fun, any chance of a demo beforehand?

Oh and any news about the extra levels for Cuboid? Ever since I got that signed photo of Cuboid in blocked letters I’m anxious waiting for new information *lol*.

    • Yo, what up, playa? Yes, we will be releasing a playable demo for Smash Cars at launch, so stay tuned for that.

As for the DLC for Cuboid, as well as Magic Ball and Mahjong Tales: Ancient Wisdom, stay tuned for a big announcement in the next couple of weeks.

  • wowo 39 replies, is that a record?

  • Wow this interesting
you got yourself a New Customer MR
    lol

Also any chance in making a Shooter
    cause I love shooters
    like Stardust and Astro Tripper

    • Re: shooters, we here at the Creat Studios Think Tank are always thinking of new ideas, so you never know!

  • how much will it cost

  • Creat Studios and TikGames have made some great PSN games so far. I love Cuboid and Magic Ball. (I saw the new Magic Ball trophies, any idea on when the new stages are coming?)

Looking forward to checking out the demo for Smash Cars, and if I like I’ll definately buy. Keep up the good work guys.

  • Creat is on a roll! You guys are rivaling Pixeljunk on quality titles for PSN!

    A few questions:

    Custom soundtracks? PLEASE say yes.

I can’t wait for the Magic Ball DLC, the game is a lot of fun. Are you planning on more DLC for the game beyond the upcoming pack?

  • Why isn’t there a physical media version?

  • OK.. hope its patched in later tho.. then il buy it for sure

  • No splitscreen? Man thats already a No Buy for me. I want to be able to play at home with a friend.

  • I do love a good kart racer. Count me in!

  • looks like a sweet game! i might buy it if a find the money

  • what up michael any chance that splitcreen might be patched in later?looking forward to the magic ball dlc, keep doing your thing this game looks dope,i look forward to seeing the next projects, props

  • I agree, this looks like Re-Volt. Which I played hours, upon hours on my PC back in 1999. I actually wrote to Sony and asked them to bring it back as a PSOne download. But if what you’re saying is true Michael, with the better graphics and DLC, then you have one more customer. That is if it’s a reasonable price.

Consider lowering the cost at first, if people buy it on the first day. I just can’t afford to spend $20 on another racing game. Burnout Paradise is $20. This game should be at least $10.

    Good, good, how about you?

Great, its always nice to test out a game beforehand.

Alright thanks will sure keep on eye on the blog for your posts ;)

  • Um… “an” eye, not “on”.

  • I am on the fence about this game because it WILL NOT include OFFLINE MULTIPLAYER…. Why??

BUT will it at least have IN-GAME XMB music access? Please?

  • WINNERS_CIRCLE24
