Hi, I’m Joshua Miller, the U.S. producer of Rag Doll Kung Fu: Fists of Plastic. It’s been a while since Fists of Plastic made its debut at E3 last year and since its announcement, people have been asking for more details. Well, the time has finally come and I am very pleased (not to mention, very excited) to announce today that Rag Doll Kung Fu: Fists of Plastic will be available for download exclusively on PSN beginning THURSDAY, APRIL 9th!
Before I go even further, please check out this brand new, never-before-seen trailer that shows exactly what to look forward to. If you like what you see and can’t wait until the game comes out, feel free to download this trailer for free and watch it as many times as you like! It is available TODAY on the Playstation Store.
As you can see, we are unloading the craziest cast of fighters for you to unleash some of the nuttiest fighting moves in kung fu history! Using the SIXAXIS wireless controller, not to mention, all the Chi Power you will be earning, you can control the crazy 3D characters and orchestrate in-air, ninja-like attacks, as well as engage in intense combat using weapons and strategy for an all-out, 360-degree assault. And of course, the better you become, the more trophies you earn!
For added fun, players can also unlock body parts to create their own characters, with over hundreds of combinations. These customizable characters can bend, stretch and perform every fighting move with hilarious results.
With plenty of modes and settings to suit both hardcore and casual gamers, Fists of Plastic’s pick-up-and-play controls allow for hours of fun gameplay with up to 4 people locally. Fun for parties, players can create a team-based free-for-all using the King of the Hill, Deathmatch, Dodgeball or Capture the Fish modes.
Whether you’re playing solo or in a group, feel free to check the online leaderboards and compare your game to someone across the globe!
I’m going to leave you with that for now. We will be providing more details — not to mention, more goodies — throughout the next several weeks. So, continue checking back here for the latest on RDKF: Fists of Plastic!

I rated this a 1. Two minutes later, it says 4 votes with a rating of five. Is there someone editing the ratings?
Jeff Rubenstein replied on March 12, 2009 at 9:51 am
I can assure you we have better things to do! It just doesn’t tally and average instantly.

It doesn’t say anything about online multiplayer?

Looks like a lot of fun; and I know I saw Sackboy in the video as well! :-)
PS …”360-degree assault”… intentional, or comical coincidence?

Bildo818 | March 12th, 2009 at 9:58 am
Looks good, but on local multiplayer? Looks like I’ll never play with anyone else! LOL To be honest though, this trailer made it look fun!

Looks like Smash Bros.

Cptcanadiman | March 12th, 2009 at 9:58 am
Looks like it could be pretty damn fun but all my gaming friends are not local so no online = no buy for me.

Needs to have online. Otherwise looks like a fun beat-em-up. I’ll give it a try.

Ghost_Shrimp | March 12th, 2009 at 10:07 am
This looks great, I’ve been looking forward to it for a long time. Does it use Littlebigplanet’s engine? It sort of looks like it does.
Also I’d be surprised if this game didn’t have online play, it seems like the perfect game for it.
Josh Miller replied on March 12, 2009 at 11:21 am
Rag Doll Kung Fu does not use the Little Big Planet engine. It uses one created by the developer, Tarsier studios.

Was this game made on the lbp engine?

How closely related is this to the PC release? I thought the mouse controls were a little wonky..
25
McSpatrick | March 12th, 2009 at 10:10 am
I was excited about this game when announced at E3. Now? Not so much. Seems to much like a Smash Bros. clone and nothing real original.

Mcksalg | March 12th, 2009 at 10:11 am
LOL reminds me of a Stephen Chow movie for some reason. Kung Fu Hustle, anyone? Will pick this up looks too funny.

Why would you rate this a 1? I’m just curious.

looks cool. Oh yea and where can I get the song playing in the background.
33
Cobra1 | March 12th, 2009 at 10:24 am
It looks like its using the Media Molecule LBP engine, which means the controls should be fairly ’sloppy’.
And tell us again…. why no online?
Leaderboards are nice, but too many people cheat to get to the top. The whole concept should be scrapped.

At first i thought it said Kung Fu Panda: Fists of Plastic LOL
To be honest … this game does look like Super Smash Bros. LOL
37
Josh Miller | March 12th, 2009 at 10:32 am
The developer that made this game is Tarsier Studios.
38
Jimb0 | March 12th, 2009 at 10:35 am
The game DID originally have online play listed when it was first announced:
*Single Player and Multiplayer Modes – Perfect for any occasion, Rag Doll Kung Fu: Fists of Plastic offers solo missions and frantic multiplayer action with up to 4 players locally or online

VixDiesel | March 12th, 2009 at 10:38 am
I didn’t fully read it but does it have online multiplayer or is that group offline only?
40
LokeSTL | March 12th, 2009 at 10:42 am
@Jeff
I don’t think simple calculations have been done that slow since before DOS. After I voted, the popup read 1 total votes. The rating was a one. I reloaded to see if anything new pop-up, still 1 vote, rating of one. Went to PS website to check the forums. Came back and there were 4 votes and a rating of five. Odd that it would tally and average all the fives without the non-fives.
Yes, we know you have better things to do. One of them being catching the US PSN up on all of the PSone downloads that are available on the Japan site. They have like ten times more PSone games to download than we do. Sup with that?

Josh Miller | March 12th, 2009 at 10:43 am
Initially we intended on doing online multiplayer, but as the development progressed, the developer came to realization that techically it could not be done. The complexities of the physics engine made it too hard sync up players. Because of this we stuck with local multiplayer.

I’ll be getting it fo sho, fo sho! Lil’ Superbad for ya. This game looks like a waste of time if you take life too seriously, for everyone else this looks like a ton of laughs and some good times!
I am guessing it will be priced from 9.99-14.99. If so I am in. 19.99 is too steep for me. Any word on the exact price point?
43
Zephram | March 12th, 2009 at 10:45 am
I’m not a fighter fan, but this looks like alot of fun.
Judging from the hundreds of permutations comment, I’m guessing that there are probably 2 interchangeable body part types and maybe at least 15 or twenty characters (20^2=400), or somewhere thereabouts.
44
Josh Miller | March 12th, 2009 at 10:45 am
Unfortunately you will not be able to take a picture of your face the PS Eye and customize your character with it.
45
LokeSTL | March 12th, 2009 at 10:47 am
@reson8er
Because I am not interested in the game. Isn’t that what the ratings are for? How interested you are in the content of the article on a scale of 1 to 5?
46
Josh Miller | March 12th, 2009 at 10:48 am
We will have a demo out shortly after the full game is released.

There are definitely trophies for this game.
