Hi all,
I’m pleased to introduce Red Baron Arcade coming out today exclusively on the PlayStation Store. Some of you really old-school gamers will remember the original Red Baron series released by Sierra back in the 90s. The first game in the series was even named the #4 Best PC Game of all Time by Computer Gaming World.
We’ve brought the classic series back and updated to a more arcade-shooter format for the PLAYSTATION 3. Take to the skies and battle infamous enemy aces in fast paced, arcade-style, dog-fighting action. There’s 20 classic WWI aircraft for you to customize and control as you battle swarms of enemy planes and bomb strategic to become the ace in Red Baron’s infamous squadron. Once you’re done with the various single-player campaign, you can go battle up to 7 other players online in Deathmatch, Team-Deathmatch and Capture the Flag.
A free demo will be up today on the store for you to check out. I hope you all enjoy it and see you in the skies!

Nice, free demos are always good. 2 questions: What is the price and are their trophies?

Holy crap, I thought this game had been canceled a while ago! This news makes me very happy, as I was really looking forward to the game and I was very disappointed when all news about it dried up. Awesome!

Wow this came out of nowhere…I totally thought that this was canceled. So does this game support Trophies? And how about a price? And I am very sorry Sierra…but no Trophies, no purchase from me.

YES! I played Red Baron awhile ago on PC and loved it so I’ve been waiting for this ever since I found out about the PSN version and I’m very happy to know that it wasn’t canceled. Thank you Sierra!

Looking into these right now for you, SPARDA.

Good to hear this survived Activision-Blizzard’s axe. I hope Assault Heroes and Switchball survived as well.

What about Bomberman Ultra? When is That comming? i’ve been waiting for months!

rlangaf | March 12th, 2009 at 5:52 am
Scott, you specify that you’re a part of Sierra – just how much of Sierra is left with the Activision merger with Vivendi? This was somewhat announced for release back in September, does this mean we could still see the other announced or half-announced games, like Zombie Wranglers XBLA, and Switchball / Assualt Heroes and such on PSN?
I’d love to interview you for GamerBytes about what Activision / Sierra’s digital strategy. Please contact me via GamerBytes.com if you’re willing to have a chat :)

This is such a non-informative post. I would like a video/price/controls of the game so I know if I should leave and grab some PSN cards.

Hmm.. since this was pushed back from September 2008 – I assume it won’t include trophies.
25
rroc | March 12th, 2009 at 6:04 am
No local multiplayer for this one either?
26
unstablefears | March 12th, 2009 at 6:06 am
All games released in 2009+ require trophies. Wish people would stop asking already.

Where’s SNOOPY?
31
KidCommando | March 12th, 2009 at 6:20 am
wow, please don’t give us too much information about a title that is releasing TODAY!
Like you didn’t know EVERYONE would want to know about the price and trophy support?
This blog is a joke. An OFFICAL post about a game releasing today that has no mention of the cost or if there are trophies. way to keep your customers informed.
I am assuming it will be overpriced and NOT include trophies by the lack of acknowledgement.

chriscowboyd | March 12th, 2009 at 6:23 am
@unstablefears
Afro Samurai has no trophies but was released in 2009.

This game looks kind of cool.
I was wondering what had happen to it. I´m glad to hear some new info about it.
If the demo is any good I hope they release it in EU as well.

acerazer1 | March 12th, 2009 at 6:30 am
Okay, the answer about what gets trophies and what doesn’t: all games sent to Sony for certification after Jan. 1 2009 has to have trophy support, otherwise it will failed to get certified. If it was sent for certification before Jan. 1, trophy support was not mandatory, therefore it might not have trophies (as was the case with Afro Samurai). I hope this helps everyone in future inquiries.

I have fond memories of playing Sierra flight sims like Red Baron and Aces Over the Pacific, but I’m curious how close this game will be to either of those experiences (other than the backdrop).

AGGGG!! Why do people keep asking about trophie support?
Trophies. Are. Mandatory now.
Was that simple enough? No? Okay, here is a link: http://www.gamespot.com/news/6201444.html
BTW: Love this out-of-the-blue game announcement! I’ve never played the original Red, but loved the sequal. Definatly getting this demo today.

PullusPardusUS | March 12th, 2009 at 7:21 am
More games should support Youtube video Upload and ingame music. thats what im asking for =[
46
androvsky | March 12th, 2009 at 7:21 am
This isn’t even close to a sim like the original Red Baron or Aces Over the Pacific; this is very much an arcade game like it says in the post if it’s what I think it is. If it’s like the arcade style Red Baron game that was on the PC a few years ago, it should still be a lot of fun, and I’m glad we’re finally getting it.
Still, if you miss Aces Over the Pacific as much as I do, the PS3 is getting two real WWII flight combat sims this year! Heroes Over Europe and Il-2 Sturmovik. Real sims too, from the sounds of it, nothing like Blazing Angels.

Holy Crap!!! I thought this game was dead after all of the issues at Sierra.
What a nice surprise!!!!!

cowboyd21 | March 12th, 2009 at 7:25 am
@ 32 yea and 50 cent game have no trophies support . hey sony two games all ready came out with no trophies support step your game up . am not buying any game without trophies in them.
49
AmericanNinja1 | March 12th, 2009 at 7:27 am
All games that started development in Jan 2009 and beyond require trophies Afro and the 50 game were in development already last year so therefore it did not require trophies.
