FLOCK! Arrives on PSN on April 9!

OK, OK. I know I’ve been M.I.A. lately. You also may have noticed that I haven’t been on my PS3 in a while playing SF4. Well, life’s been hectic but exciting, and any free time has been spent catching up on sleep (I promise to catch up on all my PS3 messages, sorry)!

The real reason I’m here, and it’s not to keep you updated on my life, is to let you know that next Thursday, FLOCK! finally arrives on PSN. Soon you’ll be able to manipulate cute, cuddly animals with the help of your trusty UFO. You don’t even have to be in a farm to flock sheep, Capcom is giving you the ability to do this in the privacy of your own home. You can even call a friend over and flock.

If you’ve never herd of FLOCK! before, here’s a video with the beautiful Veronica Belmont and one the folks at Capcom going over some of the cool features in the game (I’m loving the outfit Veronica!).

Did I mention trophy and in-game XMB music support? Another cool feature is the level editor where you can create your own plushy environments and share them online. There’s also a rating system where you can praise the brilliant work of others, or pan some of the more awkward levels that are made available (Giving fans creative freedom is not always a good thing).

So, if you’ve been keeping up with my blogs, I’ve been hinting for months about a cool surprise for PSN gamers this year. Well, stay tuned. I’m ready to talk about it at the end of the month.

Oh and finally, comment number 200 gets a free, redeemable token of FLOCK! and a copy of Street Fighter 4 (No spamming allowed. If you post two times in a row and hit number 200, the prize goes to the next person. Send me a PM to my PSN ID and give me your address to get your prize.).

Yours truly,
John Diamonon

  • I had the BETA or DEMO from Qore some months ago for this game and it was really cool and weird at the same time.lol. But it’s a buyer!

  • Dernit…I was just about to jump in here and ask how REGULAR folks get the Flock Playset. My dreams have been dashed…DASHED!! Now my Flock experience next week will be tarnished by the fact I COULD have had a real UFO and little cuteums next to my tele…

    *cries*

    • I hear that the Flock Toy Set will be available at the Capcom Store next Thursday. Only 300 available. Check Capcom Unity next week.

  • The PSN Account Wallet needs password protection – not just a password prompt when checking out of the store! I want to be able to play on my PS3 and save my PSN password on my console and not worry someone using my system adding money (paid with my credit card) to my PSN Wallet without a password prompt showing up.

  • Looks like quite the amusing game! Been excited to play this one for awhile now. :D

Maybe you should have made it 2000 comments instead of 200, lol. ;)

  • “I know. SF trophies were not promised, ever. BCR trophies were announced to be available after launch. Priorities changed with the team to focus on the full game. It’s unfortunate and I can understand why people are disapointed. I just have to answer this every time I’m here, I understand.”

This a start. An honest answer, one that is still lacking any information.

The reason you have to answer to this every time you are here, is because you never gave any real answers to begin with. Why not make an official post, one that details where the status of the patch is at, or at least why it hasn’t been released. Make an official answer…not a stupid reply to a random comment that contains no useful information.

I realize priorities change, but tell us what those priorities are, and why they took precendent over something you promised us months upon months ago.

Don’t hide. People don’t bite if you’re honest. If you’re dishonest, thats when people bite. And frankly John, you’re just a very dishonest guy. One who has the accolades of suck ups, but not of those who think someone should be held to their word.

    • Madman Version6,

I\’ve answered this question on numerous occasions and you can verify this if you read my replies to these questions from my previous blogs.

I\’m not a person to hide from anything. My real name is on this blog, my words are documented, my reputation stands by my actions. I don\’t hide behind any computer throwing out insults like a keyboard cowboy. I\’m sure if you meet me in person, and yes, you can find me at numerous videogame events throughout the year, you\’ll see that I\’m a stand up guy who backs up his word.

Now there\’s two ways you can look at this situation. One, that we lied about trophies, knowing well before hand, that they would never be available..

      or..

two, the team had to stop the project and focus all of their limited resources on the next gen version.

Thinking that the first scenario is true, well, IMO, is naive and short sided.

      With warm regards,
      John Diamonon

  • John Daimonon Should earn a Trophy for most replies on a blog .

    EVER!!!!

    sweet job

  • The problem with your 2 scenario outline John, is that you would know FAR FAR in advance that resources were so limited that trophies would have to be scratched…

…you yourself had said even before the game came out, that you and your peeps were all about keeping tight budgets, and everything had to be budgeted for. Including trophies. This means you knew well in advance that there would never be a trophy patch…yet you persisted with the idea because you knew it would sell units. Thats dishonest.

You can feign the “We totally meant to release a trophy” patch all you want, but from all the posts you’ve made on the issue, you and your team don’t care too much loosey goosey budgets, which make it hard to believe you wouldn’t be able to tell if there was enough money to get a trophy patch out.

    • Obama says \”know what you\’re talking about before you speak\”..or type for that matter.

Sorry folks, this is the last time I feed the trolls.

  • Yes John, I do read all your posts. I’m probably one of the only people who actually have.

If you want me to believe you are a stand up guy John, and believe me I do want to, then tell us straight up what the status of the trophy patch is: dead, indefinitely delayed, what? Is it coming out ever? Be honest. At this point, you’d be better off announcing that the patch is cancelled than to continue a string of lies.

    Madman

PS: How hard can trophies be to implement, seriously? From what every single other developer is saying, they’re dead simple. Capcom’s staff can’t do something “dead simple” in a reasonable amount of time? Time for new staff I say.

  • I’ve honestly never seen anyone so hard up for tropies…ever!

Madman v6.0 give it up man if it happens it happens if not oh well, poop happens more often than not.

  • Mr. Diamonon,

    Now I am @ 1000 what do I win?

Thanks for putting me at 1000. it looks good even though I know I didnt win…oh well. It was fun.

  • lol @ madman ver6. John… give us details on the Home SFIV figures… :)

  • I think JOhn is the most prolific poster on this PS blog, 100+ replies, dear god.

  • Sorry folks, this is the last time I feed the trolls

    ^^^^^^^^^^^
    LMAO haha love it

  • What do you mean everyone is scared to post and why???

  • Fact dropping is now trolling. I love it.

  • Do we get to Flock with Veronica? I’d love it!!! :D

  • In all honesty, I don’t remember SSF2HDR trophies being promised, but ever since it’s release, Joystiq has had them on their “To Be Patched” list, so I just figured they knew something we didn’t, or I missed an article.

I’ve given you crap before, John, but I hope you don’t view me as a Madman v7.

    • Nah, I\’d never compare you to v8.

The reason you don\’t remember SFHD trophies being promised is because it never was.

  • hay looks fun and has awards I’m ready

  • Now for sure I’m going to download Flock on Thursday. Desided not to let my dog go through the surgery :-)

  • Damn. That was not a response I was looking for, lol.

  • @John, ROTFL. Considering the sounds in the game I’m positively sure Max will watch along with me when I play the game instead of lying on the butcher’s table. The idea alone made me freaking scared.

  • JOhn make one more contest lol! maybe comment #1200

  • lol

  • Eh the one time i don’t check the blog. The one time you smite me John. :(

  • Welcome back, John! And in rare form, I see. I was going to send out a search party for you.

  • Madman, get over it dude. So someone said there would be trophies at one time and no one ever got around to it. It happens. No one’s perfect.
But what’s the big deal anyways? Trophies shouldn’t make or break a game. Sure, they add a nice element most times, but is it really worth pestering John D. about constantly?
I can see how you might be angry at a lack of clarity, but maybe John isn’t allowed to give a definite and final answer. Perhaps they are still a possibility, but not a certainty. Whatever the case may be, I’m sure there are more important things out there to complain about than some digital emblem system no one will care about in 20 years.
Sorry to butt in, and it’s not like the issue really concerns me, but there’s no reason to make hostile passes (liar, coward, etc.) at John D. when he is one of the people who really care about the community here. …And that’s all I have to say about that.

  • Yeah, a little late. Sorry about that; I’ve been busy as hell too. Weekly meetings in Home, a podcast to worry about, articles to write for PSLS, and having to meet my sister’s new b/f who I am informed I’m apparently not allowed to threaten to kill. It’s been hectic.

Glad to see you back though, man! Hope we start seeing you a bit more often around here!

  • you guys should make Chung-li’s costume that came on the anime where shes wearing the pant’s.

  • @John, just check the Internet, there are many side affects to the um castration of a dog. Max acts at times like a macho to other big, male dogs and can be very nervous in the house. With castration his behavior can even get “worse”. Though, he’s only 1,5 years old and has the nervous attitude of a Shepard in him. At least now you know what you have, but you don’t as soon as he’s operated. After checking the Internet and speaking to a dogs training teacher, it was best to cancel the operation for next Thursday and at least look for some other, less drastic measurements. For others it may be like a normal thing to do, but I find it scary as hell.

  • If you think that’s best for your pet, then that’s great. I think at least someone would be very grateful haha.

  • Wow, that Madman is a MAD MAN…seriously! I mean, I know the “THOUGHT” of a Trophy is an easy one to conjure up but, wasn’t it Insomniac, one of the most powerful devs Sony calls internal, who said adding Trophy support wasn’t like simply turning on a switch? I mean, if a game isn’t designed from the outset to support such features, then it sounds to me like something of a chore to go back and do it post-“ship”.

The only reason Uncharted received them was because Naughty Dog was knee-deep on developing Uncharted 2, which used the same guts as the first…they were developing the tech over a pre-existing set of code and it only made sense to bring it over with relative ease.

All I’m going to say is that IF we aren’t getting Trophies for BCR, well, I can only assume it’ll make BC that much more enjoyable when it finally hits. I’d much rather the team spend the time on what’s coming and not what’s already out. Walt Disney once said in around about way that we keep moving forward to pave a road for something new. Let’s move forward…not back!!

  • 1) Insomniac has said repeatedly trophies are easy as hell to implement. Check some of the old R2 blog posts.

    2) Uncharted 2 is not built on the same code as Uncharted 1. This has also been said numerous times. The reason they said trophies were easy for them is because they has the medals and points system in place when the game shipped, which meant trophies were “like turning on a switch”.

    3) Yes it is worth pestering him every time. If he wants to be an active part of the community, then the minimum requirement to do so is to be honest. Otherwise, he’s just another corporate head who gives vague answers and is just as dishonest with the world as his CEO’s. Its about keeping people honest in a time and place where dishonesty seems to be running amok.

  • lol John’s a great guy the #1 dev(wait you’re a dev right) to have the best interaction with consumers. I wish I could add you but your list is probably full.

Come on Sony put like 500 friend list slots in the next FW update. lol.

  • If trophies were so easy to implement as Insomniac claims, then why didn’t they just help the people with their numerous requests to “simply” add trophies to R&C ToD and QFB, hmmm?

  • AdamMadman would have you believe he’s such an expert on the subject and would also love to justify his stance of harassing John, but the bottom line is he’s spewing a bunch of nonsense to “support” his overly aggressive “tact” with John. To that, I have to say, John did a stand up job keeping within the confines of his professionalism.

Brian Allgeier (creative director – Insomniac) even stated that the trophy system wasn’t as simple to implement in the time frame they had while developing Quest for Booty.

As for your comment Onna76…EXACTLY! They said, going forward, the Trophy system is a simple inclusion that requires little to know additional dev time. Moving backwards, however, not only requires dev time on a shipped title for patch purposes, but also thins a team that could be working on current projects.

  • I don’t know, I don’t see what the big deal is anyhow. The Trophy system is great for games that support it but it doesn’t make the game any better in my eyes. I just wish I could go into a single PSBlog entry without similar users hijacking the topic and derailing an otherwise good read for their “GREATER GOOD’. Blog entries with GREAT community support by representatives such as John are few and far between. I’m pretty certain he comes here because he wants to and enjoys the interaction with the fans. I also think there’s no way he can make everyone happy and, AdamMadman, I think it’s about time to realize you’re one of those he’ll never please.

  • I agree with everything SarshelYam said; you said what I was trying to say much better than I.

  • Did we hit number 200 yet? hee hee

  • this game better not be 15 dollars on major nelson they have it for 1200 points which is a rip off capcom

  • “Brian Allgeier (creative director – Insomniac) even stated that the trophy system wasn’t as simple to implement in the time frame they had while developing Quest for Booty.”

Trophies were never promised for ToD or QfB…something Capcom should have tried before they realized their inept team couldn’t implement them, even though they are dead simple. It has been proven time and time again that Achievements and Trophies lead to higher sales…putting in the extra effort to back patch a game for them will ONLY help in the end. Unless of course you’ve already euchred yourself with ridiculously high prices and a torrent of lies like Capcom has seen to habitualize.

  • This game looks interesting, i may have to pic it up. Offline co-op?

off topic: Is street fighter IV ever going to have game launching. It was a great addition to RE5.
