Hi Grace,

Can you please take a moment to address the PS owners here concerning the downloading issue.

I would like to know if SONY is ‘considering’ tying the content to our PSN id so that we can redownload the content when faced with faulty PS3 consoles or if we happen to own multiple PS3 in the same house it would seem fair that I should be able to watch the content on either PS3.

I’ve been asking for commentary for near 6mos now, once per week, and would really appreciate it if you took a moment to just let us, your customers, know if this is being looked at. You don’t need to promise a launch date…just wheather it is being considered.

As it stands now I can not recommend to anyone that they buy content that they can’t be assured of redownloading in the same fashion that we redownload bought games.

Thanks for your time and I look forward to your response.

Please allow for more downloads.

Also how about a “free section” for those TV shows that NBC and MTV and quite possibly others that are out.

Just give up this video store!
Sony you don’t listen to what we ask or even give us a progress update if something is being done.
The PSN Video store will fall to the same fate as the Sony Connect store.

These videos need full 1080p, Surround Sound and to be stripped of the DRM to be successful.

One would think as Sony is a technology and entertainment company they would be a little more in tune to the customer.

I give this a 1, out of 5!

+ Enforcer_X on April 24th, 2009 at 6:49 am said:

@4
Why don’t you get the latest firmware, backup the video and try to restore it to a different PS3.

It would be much faster than waiting for a response on here.

9

+ KSPRAYDAD on April 24th, 2009 at 6:52 am said:

@8

The backup function does not allow you to restore to a different PS3. It is tied to the hardware not the PSN id. That is the issue.

10

+ Enforcer_X on April 24th, 2009 at 6:56 am said:

@9
aaahhh
Good to know!
I don’t buy from the PSN Video store so I can’t say.
So, thanks for the info and now I am on board with you!
Tie the Video content to the PSN ID and allow redownload via the store like the games store.

I can confirm the lacking qualities of the Video Store backup.

I had downloaded a bunch of Anime episodes, and a few movies.

I bought a new PS3, I had swapped in a new HDD on the old one so I was familiar with the backup process.

I backed up, and then used the newly added Video backup feature, which I have to say was time consuming as I could not backup multiple files at one time.

So, I get the new unit fired up, try restoring one my backed up video files, and was greeted by a message that this content is for use on a different system.

So now I have 2 PS3, and over $100 of episodes and movies, that I can only watch on the Unit I downloaded the files.

Color me dissapointed, I understand the desire to keep illegitimate copying under control, but not being able to view things I paid for on a System I own is not satisfactory.

I think it stinks if you have to send your Unit in for repairs that you lose access to any and all Video content that you pay for..

Can anyone from Sony comment on this issue?

@11 It will appear sometie this year it only appeared last July in the US.

Europe is completly different they need to go through all member states and get the certified and that will take a while. I expect it to appear in August with the European GDC in Germany.

@All complainers: stop buying digital movies, they are expensive and it’s unfair that they can’t be watched on any other PS3. Go buy the DVD or blu-ray version. You get a nice box and a disc that you can take virtually anywhere. Watch it on your TV, PS3, PC. Even convert them so you can watch them on your PSP or iPod. ;)

Are there no Video stores like Blockbuster in Canada??? Would the PSN store be the only way everybody in Canada could watch a movie? Sony is just like any other company and they would love to take your money. So would it make sense that there might be a “legal” reason why it is not in canada. I personally think since you guys whine so much the won’t bring it to canada…

+ Skant on April 24th, 2009 at 10:08 am said:

I didn’t think I’d use the PSN video downloads at first. But I’m hooked. I use it as my rental service now. On the face of it, it seems more expensive than the other services, but when you look more closely… well, as usual Sony doesn’t play games with hiding the real price, while their competitors generally do.

I only use download services for rentals. If you want to own a movie, buy the disc. All legitimate download services have DRM. And DRM inherently has no viable solution for permanent ownership.

Its all about convenience buddy. All about convenience.

and its about the love of sitting on our duff and not having to leave the house to get a movie. We can get itunes rentals but its not the same. We have love for the PS3 as much as you.
All and all i am kinda tired of hearing it too. I won’t be complaining anymore.

Once the movies are upgraded to the present standard, then bring it to Canada.

@29/morris

To be honest, I don’t really care one bit about the video store and if it does come to Canada, I’ll be the last one to use it. It’s not 1080p uncompressed video and its not 5.1 uncompressed audio and its ridiculously DRMed. If I need to rent something quick and need it in awesome HD, then I go to Blockbuster two blocks away and get the BluRay. For all else there is the internet.

The reason I post those short comments (as seen in comment 25) is to highlight SCEA’s sheer disrespect of Canada. The A in SCEA is America, which f***ing includes USA *AND* Canada. SCEA even prides themselves for developing Sony entertainment products and services in America, when in reality, they leave out the second largest country in America. Also, they ignore every last request for the Store to come to Canada with not even so much as a single reply! Not even a “hang tight”. Not even a press statement about WTF is going on. SCEA, you have f***ing lips, use them to at least tell us why, what, and when. Ignoring us completely doesn’t put the A in SCEA.

Mike

@41…

The silence is odd.

You would think that those that take the time to participate on this site are people that are more than likely willing to advocate for the Playstation products.

Personally I can say without hesitation that I am responsible for 8 other families purchasing a PS3 that were leaning X or Wii at the time. I have politely asked Grace once a week for almost 6 months now without any response. I can say that it is her reticence to address the PS1 games issue that finally caused me to go with CF and rip my own games. I’ve never pirated a game and only play my own PS1 games but I was quite willing to pay for them again in digital format if I was given ANY indication that they might be coming. Alas, Grace chose to never answer that question either and I’ve stopped recommending PSP purchases to people that I’m sure I could have influenced.

So staying quiet to the audience most likely to give positive buzz to neighbours/family and friends to influence purchasing decisions is very odd.

Grace, please engage your customers as your customers are the CHEAPEST and MOST EFFECTIVE way to advertise your products to new customers.
