I Wanna Take YoU 4 A Ride this Thursday!

What’s up P-Essers? I’m here today to announce the imminent arrival of one of the worst kept secrets in the industry. You’ve seen the ESRB leak. You’ve seen the MadCatz joysticks. You probably visited a cryptic sight called www.tu4ar.com that just counted down to zero.

If you’ve been paying attention to my blogs and interviews, I’ve been leaking info about this day for quite some time. We conducted this Gamespot poll back in March of 2008 to gauge interest on what games you want to see us bring back. We listened to your feedback and tried to work quietly on the project. Well, as you know, I’m not the quiet type (the PR Ninjas here don’t like me so much). There was this MTV interview in June of last year, my PS blog on August 14th alluding to a Street Fighter surprise, and numerous blogs after that teasing this announcement.

So what’s the announcement? Here it is, officially:

Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 Summer 2009

Yes that’s right. Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 will finally arrive on PSN this summer! For more information on the full game, go visit Capcom-Unity.com.

But wait, there’s more. Here’s the freaking ace up our sleeve:

Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 Store Banner

This Thursday, April 30, PlayStation Network users will enjoy a free, exclusive MVC2 demo! No need to purchase another game, just download it straight to your PS3 and get ready for some triple tag team action (A big thank you goes out to Rommel Hernandez who helped make this exclusive demo possible).

Here are the details of the demo:

  • Two-player local matches
  • Six available characters – Ryu, Chun-Li, Strider, Spider-Man, Iron Man and Wolverine
  • Seven selectable environments
  • Upscaled 1080p graphics
  • Widescreen or 4:3 aspect ratio
  • Two graphic filter options for character sprites
  • And other cool options to check out

Make sure you visit www.tu4ar.com for the latest MVC2 news and follow us on Twitter for special promotions and prizes!

And I’ll leave you with one last, cool little video, exclusive to the PlayStation Blog. This is an alternate music version of the trailer on tu4ar.com.

Enjoy!

From your friendly neighborhood Capcom employee,

John “HIERO 9D3” Diamonon

  • The demo is live!!!

  • True demo is live !!!!!!!!!! although not in the highlights

  • i bet it will be once dl’s skyrocket!

  • Wow, you need a second controller to play the demo? Wtf kind of [DELETED] is that?

  • I would love to buy this and other stuff from PSN.. but i have no credit card and PSN cards are not availble in Canada. *SAD* :(

  • wow… it sucks that you can only play the demo 2 player on the same machine. wish i could try the game out…

  • Waste of bandwidth!

  • Well that was a major waste of time and excitement. I take it people like myself who only have one controller are SOL right? Good call, guys. Hell, you could’ve at least had Practice mode unlocked for the demo… so some of use can actually SEE how the game looks.

  • Exclusive demo of MvC2 and you drop the ball. Failcom is fail.

  • So much hype, so much hope, so much support, for what?
Jesus Christ Capcom, you should let people play with demos not stare at the menu screen… Heck I’m so pissed :S

  • still not up on the uk store.
capcom dissapoints again! just like at the start of the month with flock, bein over priced and all!

  • if the final version of the game doesn’t allow double/triple selects i’ll be mildly displeased and hope for a fix for that “flaw”

  • “i’ll be mildly displeased and hope for a fix for that “flaw””

    you’re a madman! lol

  • damn capcom, you know when I read
Here are the details of the demo:

    * Two-player local matches
I was thinking it was a feature of the demo, I should have taken it literally to know beforehand that it was the only option of the demo! Thank you for shortchanging us PS3 folk yet again

  • I guess most people here are a little to young to get my “Megatron must be stoped, no matter the cost” reference i made a couple of pages back.

    Man im old.

    :(

  • waste of time…nos I’m disappointed pure hype about rumors of dead Rising 1 and nothing ! still please have mercy and say we aren’t going to get it never..and yeah the update fails!!! I’m not going to buy this at least if it was a complete remake like HD REMIX i would think it…people please don’t buy this we deserve more!

  • i played the demo today… one complaint…
there’s no option for PP(LP+HP) and KK(LK+HK) buttons… for someone like me who relies a lot on these (especially with a controller).. its a big disappointment… i hope they change that in the final version…

  • John, can you explain the rationale behind local multiplayer only? There’s been a mite bit of frustration from fans about the lack of a single player mode. Thanks.

  • Yes johnny boy exactly what watchman says going to play demo tommorrow hopefully i wont be cranky like this but i cant insure i wont be

  • @john
why didnt capcom give the mvc2 a single player option?

  • Freaking awesome! The cash I wasted on that game at the arcade could probably buy me an extra ps3. lolll Is it a true HD remake or did you just put a new paint job on the old code?

  • Capcom, thank you for this great release.

I have just played the demo, and I find the characters to be extremely small compared to the arcade version.

Hopefully you are listening, and can improve upon this.

    Thanks,

  • wow CRAPCOM go suck yourselves for releasing a demo you cant play alone….what the hell??? seriously….you guys are getting alot of ppl pissed and arent gona buy the game bc they hated this….you guys SUCK!

  • no hd remake, but personally I prefer these older games as they were. I know I’m one of the few, but I think hd remix looks like ass…cheap flash looking graphics… I’m not against updating graphics- but I’d choose the old ones over that incarnation any day…

  • thiS gaMe iS goNNa be sOoO siCk.. am going to Get it for SurE..

  • the xbox has the bionic commando demo and we have this crap..capcom you hate us ps users..why we cant have lost planet 2 and dead rising 1 .. hope karma makes capcom go to bankrupt one day.

  • Well, at least I’ll finally be able to play this legitimately. Too bad I’ll have to wait for the release of the full game in order to play the Demo on my 360, but at least you guys’ll have fun.

…oh wait, the demo is local MP only, and the only person I’ll have to play it with is my brother, and he doesn’t really like fighting games(although I have a feeling he’ll like this one). I mean, I figured they’d make it a multiplayer beta, but I thought they’d at least include some online MP too.

  • @576

    Wanna trade?:P

Seriously, I can take or leave a multiplayer-only Beta of what I can assume will have a steep learning curve, but it’s not often that one gets to legally sample what would otherwise cost you a fortune.

  • 578 I would trade this 10 years old game that I have in my Dreamcast and PS2 already for Dead Rising 1 every day of the week.

  • *Checks back in after a few hours* Yup… good to see I’m not the only one pissed about this…

    So…

Will this get fixed or do we get stuck with this “Demo” until the real release?

  • everyone u do know this “demo” is just the game with most of the stuff locked out

  • gdogg

Granted this is a demo but how many demos have you played where 1, you cant play by yourself..and 2, it gives you no true idea what the full game is going to be like. At least give us an opportunity to explore the basics of the game without having to have 2 controllers. Ive been waitin years for a glimpse of this game other than ebay and this is what we get? Capcom should realize fans are important soon

  • Capcom sucks.

  • well bsnake u r right but i had a feeling the moment this demo as accounced that it would be like that idk how i senced that but the way things r going sony isnt gunna last to much longer if they dont get there **** together and this “demo” isnt a demo for say if u poke around it u can tell that when the full game is ready u can go from the “demo” right into the psn store to unlock the code for the whole game though u r right capcom should have made the vs comp in there at least i tryed it out a lil after i had downloaded it as i have two controllers and well its gunna be good but the problem is this gen of systems r mostly online something sony and a part of capcom isnt realiseing or they would have added ether online play for vs comp as not alot of people have two controllers i have two cus i will be needing a new one for the controller im using now thanks to sf4

  • please Mr.Diamonon don’t give us this crap again the only game we wanted was this one but on a remake version not the same old version with little xtras and Dead Rising 1.

  • Major failure, John. You seem a nice enough guy, so I give you a pass. But whoever made this demo two player only with no online is a complete retard, and deserves to be hit in the head with a frying pan.

  • Capcom, why the hell didn’t you include a single player mode for the demo like you did with the demo for Puzzle Fighter HD Remix? Looks like I’ll wait for the full game then..

  • Memo from Capcom to PS3 owners:

    No Dead Rising for you.
You get crappy Lost Planet port one year after Xbox. OK?
No Lost Planet 2 for you… we’re still thinking.
No Bionic Commando demo for you.
But we like PS3 so you get first demo of MvC2… surprise! You can’t play with computer, only friend or pet cat offline.

    Hahahahahahaha!

    Now give us your money.

  • John, where your curly mustache at?

  • Dang that sucks no single player mode will i can be mad at you guys it was probably hard releasing it when the game releases in a couple of months well oh well that sucks for me i guess anyway great release kind of.

  • this demo lookin’ real cotton candy

  • A-Bout-Time.

This is the best godsend from Capcom. Thank you to the most I can give thanks to.

  • I’m impressed with the demo. Me and one of my friend tried it out and we like it.I pulled out the Dreamcast and notice the visual difference.I hope MvsC2 will have the rest of the stages(14 in all).
While others are complaining, I can careless about the lack of characters.
The online thing I’m hoping for is Darkstalkers Chonicles HD Remix for PSN or Darkstalkers 4 for PS3.
Until then keep up the GOOD work Capcom

  • By the way “online” in my last post is suppose to be only. I’m very tired after beating the crap out of my friend in mvc2 in the first to 50 wins

  • Capcom and Sony disappoint me again, Jesus Christ I was so hype when I saw this demo release today and I can’t play it by myself, OMFG!
A big thank you to Rommel Hernandez (they guy who helped make the demo) my @ss. You should fire him or something lol.

C’mon guys you can do better than that and what’s wrong with the option for PP(LP+HP) and KK(LK+HK) buttons, what the heck! I hope that the final release has this option for the controller and do a real HD remix version, not a crappy one, GOD! Once again you fail Sony and Capcom you can suck my …

Anyway Killzone 2 DLC = Awesome (those 2 maps owns)

  • I was lucky to have an extra controller laying around…

    1. graphix look worst than dreamcast

    2. im used to DC controller so using ps3’s will have to get used to it

    3. as stated by someone earlier…players do look smaller

but hey this is a demo

  • Grafix worst than dreamcast? LOL you only can be joking man! the new crispy filter is one of the best updates i ever seen and i wished that more old games ( God of War for exemple) could use an awesome filter like that for my hdtv.

The sad part its the non-local single player x cpu for the demo, no win here Capcom.

  • Really , local multiplayer on the Marvel Vs Capcom2 demo? Lame … could have considered putting single player in this. This is virtually unplayable to me in its multiplayer form till the full game comes out. Let me know when you’re fixing it , in the meantime ill stick to playing RE5.

  • @John Diamonon: I played the demo last night, and it was mostly pretty cool. I have one MAJOR complaint, and one minor one.

The MAJOR problem is the lack of “double-punch” and “double-kick” buttons, like the PS2 version had. I can’t pull off any of the super moves reliably because pressing two buttons at once doesn’t seem to want to cooperate! PLEASE tell me the final release will fix this horrid oversight! After all, the default controls DO have two unmapped buttons…

The minor problem is that Strider looks REALLY stupid hanging off the side of the playable arena in widescreen. I’m not sure if this can be fixed, and it’s not all THAT big a deal if it isn’t, but I thought I’d mention it anyway.

  • Thoughts on the demo:

As per 599 (Strider hanging in mid-air), why not just just expand the game play area to accommodate the 16:9–and then letter-box crop 4:3 displays? Sure, it wouldn’t play *exactly* like the Dreamcast version at that point, but you could then boost the size of the character sprites a bit–which seems to be a fairly common critique as well.

The assist buttons don’t seem to activiate when I press them. Rather, they seem to work when I release them. This feels especially weird after playing the PS2 version for hours and hours and hours….

Also, some method to get back to the main menu screen from the character select screen would be helpful.

Aside from those picks, I am definitely looking forward to the full version. The game looks and feels great, and the graphic filters are a real plus.
